RHR…I assure you I am no romance novelist reader, although if that’s what you or anyone else likes, it is okay with me.
To be honest with you, I googled that quote minutes before I wrote it, and 4 out of 5 sites attributed it to Einstein…although there is obviously some debate as to who said it.

He does have an affection for journeymen with marginal talent (Keith Lockhart comes to mind) but at least Lockhart’s SP was over the Mendoza Line.

Moylan’s getting tired, in his last few outings he hasn’t exactly been lights out. Jeremy Hermida maybe a non tender candidate, he is a good player, plays good defense, is still young, has a good arm has a high OBP, and has 20 homer potential. Maybe he could replace Garret Anderson next year and play right field and have Diaz be the every day Left fielder.
And get a power hitting first baseman from the right side.

And while I am on the subject…no wonder so many MLB players voted Cox as a manager they would like to play for. Heck, I wish he was my boss too! Fail, fail, fail, and what does his boss do? Rewards him with opportunity after opportunity. Must be nice to work in an envirnoment where being the weakest link means essentially nothing.

I don’t believe Boobis eligible for the Presidency. One has to be a US resident, which would imply you have to be a resident of Earth. With his basic decision process one would have to think he is a native of some out of space alien nation.

Its easier to coach and manage good talent than someone who doesn’t have it. Willie Harris, great guy but you’re not going to coach him up to be a Hanley Ramirez or a Miguel Cabrera. Give the people getting this talent some credit. I’m not saying coaching doesn’t play a part, just saying it starts with first finding talented players.

Interestingly enough, I remember reading on here recently where DOB was trying to find a way to ask Cox a question. What is that all about? Is he royal or something? His job is to manage the team, and he should have to give an account to the stock holders (ticket buyers) for how he choses to do so. Cox would never make it in most cities. Can you see him at a press conference in New York? Or Philadelphia?

If they asked Cox, he would say he’s trying to get Norton going. Its just like KJ and Frenchy and everyone else Cox gave more than enough opportunities to succeed. Only this time, its a pinch hitter, so this stretches out over a season. Maybe they don’t ask him because they already know the answer.
Not saying I like it, or agree with it, but thats probably what he’d say.

Jake, I don’t really disagree with you. Some of what I said goes back to when we had great talent and won 1 WS, FL had mediocre talent (at least according to the paychecks) and did as good or better. And would you say FL has better talent than us this year? TP and Cox need to share their retirement party, and I’m only sending one gift they’ll have to share.

To continue my point, the next year in the WS, it was Liebrandt pitching to Dave Winfield in the same situation. Except, Sean McDonough didn’t say ’see you tomorrow night.’ There was no tomorrow night. Toronto won the series in six.
And speaking of announcers tho were once pared with Buck and McDonough, anyone else agree that Tim McCarver should join Greg Norton on that island that nobody has ever seen or heard of???

Diaz isn’t a Crawford that’ll steal a ton of bases, but damn, the guy hustles like nobody else and he can flat-out-hit. I’d like to see McLouth bat 7th and bat LaRoche 5th or 6th. I think that gives the team more RBI guys where they need to be.
Something like this… Diaz/Prado/CJ/Mac/Roachy/Yunel/McLouth/GA. You’d have Yunel to break up the lefties and McLouth is seems more like a run producer to me anyways. And NO WAY is CJ going anywhere in that lineup with Bobby still managing, forget it. Hitting 3rd is where he’s staying.

May I ask a follow-up question? If Norton turly is a PH specialist – in which we’ve all heard him referred to – what if he had a real job as a specialist? After that at-bat he is now hitting a robust .136! Man, if my ENT ’specialist’ failed with 86.9% of his patients, bet he wouldn’t have a job for very long. Bobby seems to like doing plumbing commercials. Wonder if he uses a plummer that is batting .136?

The only point i’m trying to make is that talent to me is not entirely tied to how much a player is making. Marlins have taken advantage of a lot of the young years of some really good players. Those also happen to be the cheapest most of the time. Josh Beckett was as good for them in winning a world series as he was for Boston. Boston paid more for him to do that. At the end of the day what was even was the talent, not the money spent. Talent helped him win, not the money each team payed for him. Thats the only point i’m making.

Our bench used to be good when it had Omar and Martin on it but that was when the team was bad.
Now the bench is bad because it has Norton and KJ on it but the team is somewhat not god awful… so at one point it was good so technically Joe is right.

One interesting note. The three bullpen amigos are still cranking in the GP department. After tonight Moylan 1st in GP, Gonzo tied for third and OFlarety tied for fourth. Gonzo and Eric need to pick up the pace if they are going to go 1-3 with Moylan this years MLB bullpen ironman contest
