Steve, VERY widely scattered showers, but nothing game-threatening. Just the usual afternoon and evening stuff on Florida coast..
August 31st, 20097:09 pm
on radio pregame show , BC said only 3 players will come up tomorrow … later on Acosta will come back after his ten days are up …. will be more call ups later on

I’m actually very impressed…good stuff man
I live in panhandle of FL and I get the “widely scattered showers” about every day lately. Doesn’t exactly flood, just sprinkles and that’s about it.
August 31st, 20097:10 pm
The Real Don Steele, thanks..
come on matty, give the offense a jump shart
I’ll run this team until I grow weary of your disappointment.
August 31st, 20097:11 pm
With the Yankees probably winning it all again…SALARY CAP discussions have to come up, as last year they missed the playoffs..and now have an entire pitching staff plus Teixeira because of money..Lets all form websites, tell our papers and teams baseball needs a SALARY CAP. now.

Great AB Matt
August 31st, 20097:13 pm
No one covered second, Joe.
The Braves could have started Hudson tonight, skipped Kawakami’s start against a team that has owned him and kept their top 4 starters on regular (4 days) rest.
And improve the team at the same time.
All they had to do was release Norton.
If Kawakami is ineffective, it will be on the head of the person who did not step up and put the needs of the team ahead of some inexplicable loyalty to a player who has been about as unproductive this season as a major league player can be.
If things go well and the Braves win tonight & tomorrow with 2 quality starts, the Braves will have dodged a bullet and this post was unnecessarily fatalistic.
If not ….
August 31st, 20097:14 pm
You idiot. God, I hate Joe. He deserves to have his name in bold. I feel like he’s on this blog. He makes me mad.
N Nine (Noron Blakemoor)
Prado got lucky Matt has dead duck at 2nd but they were tardy getting to 2nd base.
What is it someone called Diaz the other week? The Fish Whisperer? Guy tears this team up.
Has anyone asked Bobby Cox on why he keeps putting Chipper in the #3 (run producing) spot? These are critical games for the Braves and we can’t afford to give up chances to drive runs in.
August 31st, 20097:15 pm
Chipper watches it go right on by!
The Abs Man
Speaking of Bozo the clown, having Prado bunt Diaz to second to start game means Bozo is Braves’ manager.
Enough of this. Time to watch this game in peace.
Chop Chop RHR wants you and Joe fired.
August 31st, 20097:16 pm
The Abs Man – “Speaking of Bozo the clown….” hahahaha
In all candor, how does Bobby Cox continue to escape media criticism?
I mean John Gotti was the Teflon Don. Is Bobby so immune from media even questioning his game moves?
August 31st, 20097:17 pm
RE: Speaking of Bozo the clown, having Prado bunt Diaz to second to start game means Bozo is Braves’ manager.
Actually that whole post was great
Heading home to watch the game……y’all have fun and be nice.
Honestly, I wouldn’t even care if Chipper stunk it up if we weren’t in a playoff race as it would make priority #1 this offseason getting serious power hitter. But, we are in a race, and this sucks.
August 31st, 20097:18 pm
Anything less than 4 game sweep is not acceptable.
August 31st, 20097:19 pm
The Abs Man- I question it myself..
August 31st, 20097:20 pm
With all the corporate ownership, sure that ain’t Loan Shark Stadium?
August 31st, 20097:21 pm
Anyone think Kawakami’s a little peeved off with the way Atlanta is/has handled his situation upon Tim Hudson’s return?
August 31st, 20097:24 pm
Two sanshins for Kenshin!
wow KK aggressive unlike the last two first innings.
Why is Greg Norton on this team? While Conrad was filling in for the KJ, he was batting over .300 and played good defense. Has Norton played the field all year, if so, how much? The answer is…..less than 5 times. Again, why are we keeppig Norton.
At least Conrad can play second base and move Prado to third to give Chipper “Old Fart” Jones a break from everyday playing.
I just do not understand the move..
Dunno Steve, but if I lived at Pearl Harbor I’d be concerned..
August 31st, 20097:25 pm
Just go ahead and give Kawakami the freakin Cy Young already! Come on, what’s the hold up. No, seriously, he looks awesome.
That, the lack of run support over the course of the year, the Braves fans that hate him… Anger can be a good thing sometimes, if moderated.
August 31st, 20097:26 pm
He’s a team player, but calls Bobby, “Donkey-San”, now.
Rafael: Why is Greg Norton on this team?”"
Raffy, you’re the first to mention that today, good point~!
August 31st, 20097:27 pm
It’s going to be a long night
August 31st, 20097:29 pm
Maybe that is what Norton is bringing to the team. McDonalds?
August 31st, 20097:30 pm
Right on by Chipper Jones!
WTF Chipper O-LAYED that ball
Noron .138 BA .169 SLG
Marlins pitcher JJ .154 BA .327 SLG
Rafael you might be on to something…hmmm
August 31st, 20097:31 pm
Cultural note: the Japanese word “baka”, which translates to “idiot” or “fool”, uses the kanji for “horse” and “deer”. So maybe Kenshin calls Cox-kantoku “horse-deer-san”.
Here we go…

Story of Kawakami. One great inning, one bad inning.

WTF Chipper O-LAYED that ball
Very true but flash anderson went and got it
August 31st, 20097:32 pm
SAME SHlT, DIFFERENT NIGHT! Braves can’t hit (this will probably be a no hitter), Chipper can’t get to balls 1 foot away from him. BALLGAME!
August 31st, 20097:33 pm
TNBrian says: “can’t believe some people’s obsession with how bad Norton is. He’s a pinch hitter. It’s not like the old man starts him. He won’t be here long so when we lose the focus can turn to what really sinks this team— Chipper and Loaf’s D, stranding runners in crucial parts of the game, injuries, Chipper again, this time his ice cold bat.”
Tennessee man, I will applaud your standing up for the much malinged Greg Norton. Reminds me of the famous lawyer who spared Leopold and Loeb the death penalty for killing Bobby Franks in the first so-called “crime of the century”. But, alas, they were guilty and Norton is the pinch-hitting crime of the century. He has left men in scoring position 2.7 times as often as CJ has committed errors, and not all of our (admittedly fading) Chipper’s errors cost us, whereas a good deal of Norton strike outs were rally or momentum killers. CJ proved himself, Norton did not.
To me, this blog forms – speaking collectively only – (with exceptions, Robert comes to mind here)the Braves’ baseball community consensus on players. The tide shifted somewhat with BC this, with far few diehard supporters, but while his skills are debateable and debated within ‘the community’, Norton (like Orr, Reeksma, Woodward, Kolb, etc)is a Blog Consensus Loser.
But Nice try, dude!
WTF is the matter with my mlb.tv???? why can’t i watch the game?
anyone have an issues with the mlb.tv?
We lost this game before the first pitch. I see a no-hitter by Johnson.
Steve from OH
August 31st, 20097:34 pm
The report on Hoover yesterday was 90-91 FB, topping at 93, 81 changeup, both with good location but not much movement and average CB and slider from the scouting the sally guy.
Japanese translation : Reeeeeeed = a$$wipe
August 31st, 20097:35 pm
Oh now I see why Chop Chop wanted Gorecki to play CF instead of Infante.
I have never seen Chipper look as old as he’s playing right now.
August 31st, 20097:36 pm
DOB wanted me to pass along a clarification in the pitching matchups for this series. It’ll be Hanson in the finale on Thursday, not Lowe
Can we score two runs???
Have we made fun of the tens of people who came out to support the Marlins? Looks like about 8 of those 10 are Braves fans.
Maybe the $7.90 infield box seats promotion Wednesday night will get a couple dozen people in the stands.
August 31st, 20097:37 pm
Carroll – pass along our props to DOB for that info.
August 31st, 20097:38 pm
This WILL be a no-hitter so thats something to look forward to.
I’m beginning to think the Braves are racist against Asians with the run support they give Kawakami.
Get the f’ing lumber out, please. Arigato!
Thanks Crusher! Good Info
It’s Obvious – It’s been awhile since Chippers played this much in a season….. He’s not used to it.
August 31st, 20097:40 pm
Kenshin’s starting, so I’m going to guess no.
August 31st, 20097:41 pm
I hate when I read back and the Faux Loaf has been making posts that aren’t funny because people assume its me.
August 31st, 20097:42 pm
HI N Nine, I’m waiting for a callback from my hitman. Don’t get excited, you’re not in the clear.
Worst bunting team I’ve ever seen in my life…
Can’t hit or bunt…there’s a good combo
August 31st, 20097:43 pm
At least make the guy throw alot of pitches
August 31st, 20097:44 pm
We can tell when it’s not you. Well, at least I can. The faux Loafy usually spells a few words wrong.
Or and don’t forget the double play
Thanks, Firearm. You should use bullet points.
This team is fundamentally bankrupt.
Where’s the fire in this team?
Chipper kinda of has the Magglio Ordoñez sindrome. Leads the world in hitting and then can’t hit for power next year.
This team is bad folks.
Shin Chuie Sau
August 31st, 20097:45 pm
what wrong with my friend kenshin? it has to be that fat man in dugout, bobby cox. he no like chubby american’s and that what that man is…..a FAT american. kenshin needs to come back to japan and finish what he started here. this where he belong.
We may have won more games without Mclouth in center. But if anyone thinks we’re a better team without him in center then you are flat out wrong
August 31st, 20097:46 pm
Daslied said “Look, I’m not defending Norton. He’s been pretty bad (though stellar at walking!). But who’s Bobby going to use instead?
To which this long-time,die-hard fan says: look at the numbers, several of our starting pitchers have better averages; KJ has a better average, and CJ needs rest time, opening up double-switch options. But the best solution would have involved packed bags and a call-up. Obviously, when you haven’t released the man the man during the day and made the TC to Gwinnett, you are left fewer options – a state of affairs of your own making. (Reminds me of the guy who killed his parents, then asked the court for leniency since he was an orphan.)
I mean…come on…this man should have been gone a long time ago, and we all know it!
Chirp…. where U at?
August 31st, 20097:47 pm
Hugh Jazz, this team is “bad folks”? No, I think they’re probably good folks, just not a very good hitting team.
Josh Johnson is a tremendous pitcher. He has Josh Beckett type stuff.
Cantu looks like someone beat him in the face with baseball cleats…
August 31st, 20097:48 pm
Josh Johnson is a better hitter than Greg Norton. Well, that is not saying much.
August 31st, 20097:49 pm
He’s got a cute kid.
Time to warm up little Kris Medlen…
BravesFanChris24: I’m in the panhandle too……Carrabelle. Quite a different August this year than last, huh? From drought and upper 90’s in ‘08 to showers every day. It’s ok, my lawn and plants are loving it.
August 31st, 20097:50 pm
Can Josh Johnson be our cleanup hitter.
Watching Josh Johnson stroke that single jogged a memory and it was confirmed….Johnson hit a three-run homer off Kawakami on July 29 here, in a game the Braves lost 6-3. There, that oughta cheer things up, eh?
Necromancer, that’s where he had very bad acne when he was younger. That or he’s been burned, but it’s probably the acne thing.
Braves defense looked bored as they loafed over to pick up that single
August 31st, 20097:51 pm
Yeah..I know..I was just being mean.
Eyeball kid says “The Braves don’t carry Sammons because Norton is way to valuable as a pinch hitter.”
Bravesfan54 says: “daaaang, what’s the world coming to when we are comparing the relative merits(?) of Sammons and Norton”. Sammons will get called up, but then my broken watch is right on time twice a day.
If Turn My Swag On is your intro song you should get beaned in the face.
August 31st, 20097:52 pm
McFann: we all know the end to the McCann spotlight……”even though highly disappointed in his bestest buddy’s trade to the archrival Mets, Brian continues to make the All-Star team every year, and lives happily ever after as “The Man” in the clubhouse and on the field. The End.
great seats, huh buddy!
August 31st, 20097:54 pm
I’m having to watch the Marlins feed tonight. They are ready for Chipper to start using his AARP card too.
Johnson has a cute wife…nevermind the kid
At least Chipper made that play
Good thing about Kawakami is that when he gets pissed..he can cuss all he wants. No one else would understand him, except his translator.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
