With the Yankees probably winning it all again…SALARY CAP discussions have to come up, as last year they missed the playoffs..and now have an entire pitching staff plus Teixeira because of money..Lets all form websites, tell our papers and teams baseball needs a SALARY CAP. now.

The Braves could have started Hudson tonight, skipped Kawakami’s start against a team that has owned him and kept their top 4 starters on regular (4 days) rest.

And improve the team at the same time.

All they had to do was release Norton.

If Kawakami is ineffective, it will be on the head of the person who did not step up and put the needs of the team ahead of some inexplicable loyalty to a player who has been about as unproductive this season as a major league player can be.

If things go well and the Braves win tonight & tomorrow with 2 quality starts, the Braves will have dodged a bullet and this post was unnecessarily fatalistic.

If not ….

Has anyone asked Bobby Cox on why he keeps putting Chipper in the #3 (run producing) spot? These are critical games for the Braves and we can’t afford to give up chances to drive runs in.

Why is Greg Norton on this team? While Conrad was filling in for the KJ, he was batting over .300 and played good defense. Has Norton played the field all year, if so, how much? The answer is…..less than 5 times. Again, why are we keeppig Norton.

At least Conrad can play second base and move Prado to third to give Chipper “Old Fart” Jones a break from everyday playing.

I just do not understand the move..

TNBrian says: “can’t believe some people’s obsession with how bad Norton is. He’s a pinch hitter. It’s not like the old man starts him. He won’t be here long so when we lose the focus can turn to what really sinks this team— Chipper and Loaf’s D, stranding runners in crucial parts of the game, injuries, Chipper again, this time his ice cold bat.”

Tennessee man, I will applaud your standing up for the much malinged Greg Norton. Reminds me of the famous lawyer who spared Leopold and Loeb the death penalty for killing Bobby Franks in the first so-called “crime of the century”. But, alas, they were guilty and Norton is the pinch-hitting crime of the century. He has left men in scoring position 2.7 times as often as CJ has committed errors, and not all of our (admittedly fading) Chipper’s errors cost us, whereas a good deal of Norton strike outs were rally or momentum killers. CJ proved himself, Norton did not.

To me, this blog forms – speaking collectively only – (with exceptions, Robert comes to mind here)the Braves’ baseball community consensus on players. The tide shifted somewhat with BC this, with far few diehard supporters, but while his skills are debateable and debated within ‘the community’, Norton (like Orr, Reeksma, Woodward, Kolb, etc)is a Blog Consensus Loser.

But Nice try, dude!

Daslied said “Look, I’m not defending Norton. He’s been pretty bad (though stellar at walking!). But who’s Bobby going to use instead?

To which this long-time,die-hard fan says: look at the numbers, several of our starting pitchers have better averages; KJ has a better average, and CJ needs rest time, opening up double-switch options. But the best solution would have involved packed bags and a call-up. Obviously, when you haven’t released the man the man during the day and made the TC to Gwinnett, you are left fewer options – a state of affairs of your own making. (Reminds me of the guy who killed his parents, then asked the court for leniency since he was an orphan.)

I mean…come on…this man should have been gone a long time ago, and we all know it!
