I think Ron Darling is pretty good on Mets broadcasts, but that’s because he has good chemistry with Keith Hernandez. I don’t watch the TBS games because I have a really hard time watching any game the Braves aren’t playing, so I don’t know what he sounds like over there. Chemistry is important in announcing. Could be Darling and Chip don’t have any. Not too surprising. Chip really hasn’t had chemistry with anyone other than his father since he left the Cubs.

Guess he thought they were going to try to get him to swing at a ball again so he just took it. Not that suprised though. A guy that old thats just now getting called up, there is a reason why. Was just hoping he could hit something early in the count or Blanton make a mistake.

N8 you are crazy. I listen to every broadcast team at some point in the season and I have to say The Mets are actually one of the better ones. Watch a White Sox game sometime. And Darling is a million times better than Morgan. Actually gives decent insight at times. Appears to do some homework (which it’s a known fact Morgan never does) Why do you think ESPN added Phillips in the booth this year? It’s becuse they needed a color guy in the booth who actually pays attention to what’s going on in the league.

I agree about Ron Darling. He is a solid broadcaster. Funny story – everyone thinks he is from Hawaii – when really he was my Dad’s next door neighbor in Millbury Massachusetts. I mean I know he was born in Hawaii, but he grew up in Millbury.

Paul (and many others), while I share your frustration with Bobby’s willingness to go too long with a guy that any halfway intelligent baseball person can see doesn’t have it – and is probably never getting it back – keep in mind that does give guys confidence and time to work things out.
Think Smoltz, Glavine, Burkett, Gant, Lemke, Estrada, Anderson, Klesko, Roachy, on and on. All guys that went through miserable times and Bobby let them play through it. Another reason guys want to play for him.
So I share your frustration, but who’s to say, for instance, Kelly Johnson, doesn’t go on to have another ten years where he averages .280/.360/.480 as a starting 2B in the league? He’s certainly shown long glimpses in between the ragged times.

I could care less what “insight” the announcers have on TV. When on TV I watch the game and make my own “insight”. Insight is more important on radio when you can’t see the action.
I’d rather listen to Joe Morgan read the Webster’s Dictionary, than listen to an innng or two of Ron Darling’s nasily, New York accent. I’ve watched plenty of White Sox games. They too are horrible.
Before you think I’m a Braves announcer homer, I can’t stand Chip or Joe Simpson anymore either.
But thanks for calling me crazy.
