22 pitches in 2 innings so far for Jair. Would love to see him go at least 7, perhaps 8 innings tonight.
Meanwhile, Diaz is 0 for 2 so far tonight. He’s in a slump. He’s on pace to go 0 for his next 100. Time to bench Diaz and “get Kelly going”.
Wait, better yet, Prado struck out. Replace him with Kelly RIGHT NOW.
Oh and my guess on the manager who said Matty would never make it? Sweet Lou, of course.
Two out rally, let’s go.

Got any new material, Paul?
Phillips just called Chipper old!
Schafer didn’t have a bizarre gardening accident, did he?
[sigh] I had hoped no one would find out about this…
Strangely it looks like Steve Phillips may have done some homework on the Braves, the other two don’t have a clue but he seems to know more about the Braves players.
We made that too easy for Blanton.
August 30th, 20098:44 pm
that was an ugly swing
That was not pretty
Gov Clinton Tyree
Paul, that is effing hysterical. Keep it up with the bench-Prado-to-get-Kelly-going-joke.
I agree. Chipper needs to go to Teaxs and DH next season.
wow… ESPN putting Chipper on blast…
Since coming off the DL, Kelly has a .340 OBP and a .524 SLG.
August 30th, 20098:45 pm
When the ESPN Stooges credit the Braves with their “2nd half offensive turnaround”….they do realize that the turnaround happened with players (Prado, Diaz, Escobar, etc.) that Cox either refused to play, or tried to bench in the first half….they do know that, right?
August 30th, 20098:46 pm
No doubt in my mind the high profile manager that told Diaz he’d never hit in the majors like that was Sweet Lou.
And he’d be right. 99.9% of the time. Matt’s a freak.
Are the Braves the only team in the MLB without a complete game or a grand slam this year?
Nova Scotia Steve
Where was Yunel on that one
Paul, there’s a sitcom rule of thumb: use the joke three times. . .
Then let it go.
August 30th, 20098:47 pm
Morgan get off the Phillies nut’s… any team can tank… that Met team wasnt supposed to but it dead… the Phillies are human…
Hakuna Matata(Wait 'Til next year)
August 30th, 20098:48 pm
Vazquez has a complete game for us…
But still no GS for us yet
Chipper’s bat speed has looked slow for a month, guys, and DOB told us he was playing through a wrist thing. Last night’s dinger was on a slider. I’d pound him in with fastballs.
Figures the bum catcher would get a hit off JJ.
Rob from SC
can’t give up hits to their scrubs
Good at-bat unfortunately.
Get him JJ.
August 30th, 20098:49 pm
even if i tried as hard as i could i dont think i could ever be as bad of an announcer as joe morgan is. i rather jam a rabid badger down my pants than listen to him for 3 hours.
In addition, since July 23 (the date Kelly came off the DL), Martin has a .292 OBP and a .371 SLG, albeit in 2x as many plate appearances. So take it for what it’s worth.
that was close.
August 30th, 20098:50 pm
Nice way to get out of that one.
Way to go JJ!
Good job, JJ!
3 scoreless innings for JJ. Let’s get some insurance runs here.
August 30th, 20098:51 pm
Man, does Gorecki have a clue in CF? It’s like watching Dave Kingman play outfield – only without the hitting when he goes to bat.
August 30th, 20098:52 pm
Danger is JJ’s middle name
Good inning in the field, Gorecki, even though we should have sent you to low minors to bring up a pitcher because David Ross could play center field.
MiaBch-at least he’s catching them.
I’ve yet to meet anyone who thinks Joe Morgan is worth a rat’s arse as an announcer. But he has a job as long as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are alive.
What will ESPN haters gripe about tonight? I’ve watched the first and third inning tonight, and heard NOTHING but praise from Miller and Morgan about JJJ?
Then again, what do they know? They’re idiots, right? Since it’s JJJ though, I’m guessing that even the haters think they’re both dead on tonight (eyes rolling).
I betcha they’re gonna retell the story about BMac’s eyes before the night is over…
Larry, graphic….but true….
August 30th, 20098:53 pm
The answer is yes on the complete game question. But face it, we’re third in the league in ERA. What do you expect?
Yeah, you’d expect that we’d have one but no. We don’t. Why? I don’t know.
Come on, Mac!!!!
curtis jones–he has a job because ESPN gets good ratings during shows that he broadcasts. And because he was a helluva player. End o’story.
“i rather jam a rabid badger down my pants than listen to him for 3 hours.”
No offense, but if you’ve got big enough pants to put a rabid badger in them, you must be a “little” overweight.
August 30th, 20098:54 pm
Swung at ball 4 Brian there geez
Okay, next at bat, Brian. A double for him, right McFann?
N8, if you couldn’t hear them on Chase Utley and Ryan Howard’s nuts, I don’t know what to tell you…
What was that Brian?
August 30th, 20098:55 pm
yes jesse jackson tirelessly works to make sure joe morgan has a job………that was a stupid comment
Our O looks terrible
Kelly Johnson should start somewhere against LHP.
When was the last time McCann walked?
i dont really see how that is relevant, N8, but yes i am a bit husky. i mean, i spend my evenings at home on a blog message board with you weirdos, did you think i was a calvin klein underpants model or something
August 30th, 20098:56 pm
We don’t have a complete game because Bobby never gives pitchers a chance for one. If a pitcher threw 8 shutout innings, Bobby would put Soriano in the the 9th every time.
Braves are not doing nearly as well against Blanton these last three innings as they did in the first.
I hate people who change their display name to make critical posts
I really do.
You guys that bash on Miller and Morgan, must not have access to TBS anymore, or Mets broadcasts, huh? Ron Darling is frickin’ horrible. The grating sound of his voice makes me wish that John Sterling was back on TBS on Sundays Yikes.
Listen (or read). I don’t have a problem with people who don’t like the style of Miller or Morgan. Everybody is entitled to their opinion of who they want to listen to. My gripe is with the people that complain when they “gush” over the Braves opponants, and not the Braves.
Can’t be said tonight. They’re lovin them some JJJ.
August 30th, 20098:57 pm
Good Esco..Do work Rochy!
Meant to say “Bobby would put Soriano in in the 9th every time.”
Steve from OH: Joe Morgan WAS one of the best second baseman I ever saw. But he’s still a joyless racist ESPN-NE biased announcer.
Little two out, fellas
Nice strength Roachy!
Gotta give us something here.
Nice base running by Esco. Looks like we might have a 2-out rally going here.
August 30th, 20098:58 pm
LaRoche should not be hitting 7th
Hey, I’m not a Morgan fan, guys. Just sayin’. Let’s keep that crap off here, mmmk?
Come on Bravos! Make the most of it. Do somethin Gorecki!
nice…too bad Gorecki is up to bat..sigh
Keep it going Gorecki.
Jesus!!! Damn Gorecki!!! Damn Church!!! Damn McClouth!!!
Oh it’s Reid Gorecki….
MiaBchBravesFan…………I like to keep reminding those on here that the reason why offense struggled so long during the 1st half of the season was because of Bobby’s refusal to bench the bottom 3rd of the line-up.
Frank Wren pretty much forced Bobby’s hand when he traded for Nate McLouth in early June as far as sending Schafer down. When that trade went down, Prado should have replaced Kelly and Diaz should have replaced Francoeur. Instead we basically gave away games in June with 2 easy outs stalling rally after rally.
My “let’s get Kelly going by giving him some at-bats” posting is just my way of doing what I can to make sure that you guys dont forget that Bobby Cox should shoulder some of the blame for the first half slump. It’s his mentality when it comes to “his guys” (Greg Norton anyone), that helped contribute the Braves taking so long to start playing decent ball.
I feel that the Braves are in the race DESPITE Bobby Cox being the manager. Sure, it looks like Bobby was right by sticking by Peter Moylan. However he was totally wrong about Kelly Johnson, Greg Norton, Jeff Francoeur, and Jeff Bennett.
1 out of 5 isnt so hot.
LaRoche for cleanup.
Do we get extra points for complete games or something? who cares. Our starters haven’t faded as the season’s progressed.
August 30th, 20098:59 pm
Are players more friendly with the opposition in today’s game? Relative to say, 30 or 40 years ago? Seems like they are cuttin’ up with each other all the time now.
In the last this blog has gone through an evolution.
It’s moved from a Braves blog to a Brave tweeter.
Was’ up playas…
Just lettin everyone kno I’m here allll nigghhhttt long…
Be spittin about Braves fans on Peachtree during a couple more games this season…See yas soon!
Peace and love my brothers…peace and love
I think ron darling is great.
Gorecki couldn’t carry Ryan Howards nose plugs
When was the last time McCann walked?–
I told you last night: August 23rd. Now do not ask me again.
August 30th, 20099:00 pm
Might have been a little low, but too close to take, young fella
Meant “in the last year” –
the evolution has taken place.
Don’t know what Gorecki was looking for. Pitch was a strike.
dunno about that one
“if you couldn’t hear them on Chase Utley and Ryan Howard’s nuts, I don’t know what to tell you…”
You mean Chase Utley and Ryan Howard of the defending WS Champion Phillies (who are currently walking away with the NL East)? I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that from 1991 to 2005, you didn’t gripe ONE BIT when they drooled over Glavine, Maddux, Smoltz, Chipper, McGriff, Andruw (do I need to keep going?)
If you’re an equal opportunity griper of the gushiness (all you have to do is tell me that you are), and you can honestly say that it used to bother you when they talked about how great Maddux and Co. were, I’ll let you win this argument.
But if you can’t say that honestly, then you my friend, are a hypocrite.
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
August 30th, 20099:01 pm
Oh how educational, Ryan Howard teaching how he swings ~_~
Good God Gorecki Sucks! Every time he comes to the plate he is just clueless. What ever happened to Gregor Blanco or Brandon Jones. We gotta have someone better than Gorecki in minors. Why not start Omar Infante?
“then i either strike out, hit to the 2nd baseman, or hit a homer”
ESPN and Howard should just go ahead and announce their engagement.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
