Didn’t Edgar have a World Series winning hit for the Marlins???
August 30th, 20097:43 pm
Can you ask Bobby why is he starting Gorecki over Infante? Is Gorecki better than Infante?
Why are all the girls from there pale and covered in dark hair?
August 30th, 20097:44 pm
With Garret in left, Gorecki covers more ground and is a better defensive player that Infante
Uknown Hinson: Philadelphia smells like spoiled tuna and ugly females”"
FYI, it’s Phillie’s abundance of ugly gals who emit the spoiled tuna aroma…
Ok Bravos lets actually score some runs for JJ this time since you didn’t last time. Got a chance to gain some ground tonight with Colorado losing earlier. I’m starting to get tired of these late sunday night games, haven’t done to well on them lately.
Those brats and that corn on the cob was deeeeeeeeelicioso!
August 30th, 20097:45 pm
Martin – asked and answered
August 30th, 20097:46 pm
Something to get us in the mood before game time…
“Didn’t Edgar have a World Series winning hit for the Marlins???”
Thanks for the confirm Shamus, I always thought they had some kind of connection.
August 30th, 20097:47 pm
Edgar = Professional Clutchster
Jake W…..RE: Renteria
Yeah I think I’d call that a slightly bigger hit..then his slam today…
But definitely a guy who’s had some big hits in his career
August 30th, 20097:48 pm
What a great series of trades that was for us. Trading for Renteria, he mentors Escboar for a few years, trade for Jurrjens, use some of those pieces to get Nate McLouth, and today, Edgar’s still helping us out. Thanks, man!
Good blog, DOB. Love me some Matty D – good to see him getting some props (lol) …. he’s a good egg. Would love to see him get NL player of the week.

I just don’t understand the Braves dilemma. It’s obvious that Norton should be the one released to make room for Hudson, yet the Braves have apparently decided that Gorecki should be sent down instead. Sending down our extra outfielder (who has actually played quite well the last few games, and especially when McLouth is still hurt) makes absolutely no sense. Norton has done little more than draw a few walks and hit a couple of singles this season; the man isn’t even hitting his own body weight!!! Pitchers have been called upon to pinch-hit occasionally, some of whom have a higher batting average than Norton, and in fewer plate appearances. That is downright pathetic, and has no business on a Major League team. It’s sad enough that we are having to use pitchers to pinch-hit, but sending down a decent bat/fourth outfielder while retaining an almost-automatic out who never plays any defense just makes NO SENSE.

DOB: To respond to your swipe at certain denizens of this blog (which I am sure includes myself), I take pause with this ballclub because this has been a season of too many missed opportunities. If you put together a starting pitching staff with the idea that it is stellar (and it is!), then you must provide the hitting to support this faith.
With the exception of LaRoche (by default) and Prado (also, by default), all the buttons pushed to create consistent hitting has resulted in a maddening inconsistency that may ultimately squander some of the best pitching we have seen down here since the heyday of the Big Three.
It absolutely hurts to watch this club at the plate. And while the Braves may yet create something that may provide the impetus for a run that may take them to a Wild Card berth, I don’t see “it”.
With the exception of Matt Diaz (at the lead-off spot), there is not a single HEALTHY (when I say “healthy”, it is relative to the time of the season; everyone has bumps and cuts) Brave prepared to carry this ball club from the hitting end. There is not a single 30-100-.300 guy on this ball club this season.
For all of us who see great starting pitching such as ours – and this is not something you can depend on for next season – wasted by inept, unprofessional hitting, it saddens and maddens us to lunacy. That an imbecile like Bobby Cox staunchly stays with Greg Norton when every AB is precious to a poor hitting team speaks more to this club’s inability to recognize hitting talent than anything else.
As Disraeli said, there are lies, damn lies, and stats. While the Braves have an improved team BA after the All-Star break, the team scores runs in spaced clusters; most of the games are 2-1, 3-2, 4-3 affairs, win or lose (check the last six games for proof).
The sad fact is that this team has World Series-caliber pitching not supported by second-division hitting. If the Braves sneak into the playoffs because the Giants and Rockies falter, they will be swept in the first round. The only way the Braves will inspire is if this team re-discovers the patient hitting that carried it prior to the LaRoche trade and uses that impetus to finally carry a courageous starting pitching staff.
RHR – very good. You got props and egg taken care of in the same post.
August 30th, 20097:53 pm
Braves are closin in on this thing folks…..
Can almost taste post-season baseball
August 30th, 20097:54 pm
This is a link to a Bollywood movie-trailer chronicling the life of MFIKY…
Stubble is hot, btw.
And now that I mention it…Some girl must have told my son that too because I have to make him shave lol. He doesn’t have man beard yet though so even if he goes a week without shaving its like a grown mans day or two without shaving.
August 30th, 20097:55 pm
Why has everybody been talkinga bout props recently?
Watching that idiot fielder making fun of some of his team mates…….
With that Greek God body of his?
He needs to team up with Broxton and a few others.
August 30th, 20097:56 pm
Closing in on what?? You’ll loose tonite, and then you’ll loose 3 of 4 against the Fish… Game, set, 2009 Braves dead by next weekend…
’bout time for the game….I’m excited to watch, despite the commentators.
I like to watch!
August 30th, 20097:57 pm
I started shaving when I was 6. Whaddaya think of that?
August 30th, 20097:59 pm
“otisnixonsmokescrack” – Nice Screen Name to start with -
You must be a Phillies fan…and I don’t blame ya if your somewhat nervous…the way Atlanta has sent you guys packin this year I wouldn’t want to meet us in the play-offs either.
So I understand…
August 30th, 20098:00 pm
otisnixonsmokescrack – we are loose tonite, thanks for asking – and we don’t intend to lose tonight, if that’s your question.
August 30th, 20098:01 pm
Does anyone agree with me when I say that the Houston/St. Louis series represents the Braves’ greatest opportunity to prove whether they are hitting men or slumping mice?
August 30th, 20098:02 pm
Good call on the radar…It looks beautiful in Philly.
Let’s hope for some “Banana Shaped Archs Jon Miller”
August 30th, 20098:03 pm
Just another in an endless series of supposedly “must-win” games. That said, it sure would be nice to pick up the W tonight.
ESPN kissin phillie ass as we speak!
HEY! I like Otis Nixon. Knock it off and get a life, Mr. Self-Righteous Perfect Guy!
Again closing in on what Nova?… The Braves are not making the playoffs this season…. Period…. You and the Braves faithful are in denial.. Otis Nixon says: Can I have another red b@lls please….
Joe Morgan has glassy eyes… smokin some good sh** I’ll bet. Oh, and how many times Joe can mention his love Ryan Howard?
August 30th, 20098:04 pm
Joe Morgan is a BLOWHARD,
At least Steve Phillips makes some good points!
OOOh – trying to burn a disk from Itunes and having problems. Hate hearing this BSPN announcers talk about how great the Phillies are and how the Braves are sooooooooo far back. We whipped their butts last night, dudes. Can we talk about that???
ESPN = biggest bandwagonners in existence.
Two runs in the first frame would be AWESOME!!!
August 30th, 20098:05 pm
Victorino can save Blanton’s ass in this little league park…
Go choke on a cheesesteak.
Oh boy! Three hours of Joe Morgan!
*mutes TV, turns on radio*
TnBrian, I’ve seen Joe Morgan before when he looked like he’d been smoking shrubs…
August 30th, 20098:06 pm
Tonite will end just like last Sunday…The Toma Hawk Chop is the most racist and also the g*yest chant in sports….. OHHHHHHH… OHHHHHH…..
Que the blogage whining of ESPN’s love for the phillies and lack of respect for the braves…
Blast from the past…..was on the treadmill at the gym about an hour ago. Rocker and his lady friend came in. Ol’ John was looking rough in his washed out Red Sox cap….but the lady friend looked pretty good.
August 30th, 20098:07 pm
Is it just me, or does Joe Morgan accentuate his commentary when it comes to black or latino ballplayers? At least Miller and Phillips gets gushy about all of ‘em.
August 30th, 20098:08 pm
- DOB -
Off topic (this game at least) but if stranded on a desert island and forced to listen to one song until your death, would it be the Beatles or Joe Cocker’s version of “With a little help from my friends”?
AZ Braves Fan–
Haha! That’s a cute T!
August 30th, 2009
Since he keeps calling thing g*y, I think he would prefer tubest%&*
How many posts bemoaned “sending Gorecki down” after DOB already said he is in the starting lineup in place of Church? No one’s going anywhere. If they need to create a 40-man spot, they can move Schafer to the 60-day DL.
August 30th, 20098:09 pm
Jesus!!! Church’s back out AGAIN???
Did John Miller just say Blanton is a veteran?
August 30th, 20098:10 pm
well maybe Rollins can…
o… here we go…
I guess the worst we will be after tonight is 3.5 back of the WC.
Rob from SC
August 30th, 20098:11 pm
There we go
WHAT I SAY BLANTON!!!
Good start Martin!!!
Boo yah! No one’s catching that!
BALLGAME! Just kidding..
Towering HOME RUN. I mean, TOWERING
Who’s gonna be the first to say “MARTEEEEN!!!”?
August 30th, 20098:12 pm
Time to give Kelly Johnson some at-bats to “get him going”.
THAT’S WHAT I’M F***ING TALKING ABOUT
August 30th, 2009
That joke was even funnier the 574857392th time.

Sorry for the language, but I expect a few more of those tonight so maybe you people should too.
August 30th, 20098:14 pm
Chipper should just worry about trying to duplicate last year’s production instead of worrying about HRs…
August 30th, 20098:15 pm
Darn this new laptop is sensitive. Not that I mind giving Prado props twice, but I didn’t not mean to hit submit witih nothing there.
Mitchell, I appreciate your enthusiasm. Keep it up.
Come on Brian. Don’t do that.
Let’s go GA.
McFann, we gotta get our boy going tonight.
grow up Mitchell, if you can’t communicate with expletives, you’re clueless
August 30th, 20098:17 pm
Come on Esco!!! Make him pay early for these walks.
Esco. heat up!
I hate that black fag Rollins.
C’mon, JJ – three up, three down
So, our demon for this game will be: Rollins.
August 30th, 20098:18 pm
Love the speed by GA.
well, at least we made him work, and Rollins bailed him out a couple of times. Looking good so far. Time for JJ to shut ‘em down.
Only get 1, but I hope the first is sign of things to come tonight.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
