Shamus – spiking Norton’s Gatorade with ‘roids would be the story of the century. Can you imagine the talking heads and their storylines:
Career .125 hitter caught with PHD’s. Bonds and McGuire would welcome the story!
F.Wren…also it was a legit post dude. So I am wrong, sue me. Don’t see you lighting into Lew because he was wondering if Hudson was available for the 40-man. Glad you have chosen me as your blog whipping boy. Man, get a life, please.
Hillbilly: Good catch. It was a mistake on my part. Hanson is starting the fourth game of the series, not Lowe. Just read by chicken-scratch handwriting too fast when I was doing the preview box, since it wasn’t on Braves game notes yesterday due to the late changes.
I “defend” Bobby because people like you accuse him of the craziest things:
Chipper threw the ball away? Bobby’s fault! Loaf dropped a catch? Bobby’s fault! He should’ve practiced running basket catches before the game! Jurrjens can’t pitch because of a torn nail? Bobby’s fault! He should keep the pitchers manicured! McCann K’ed? Bobby’s fault! He clearly slipped laxitives in the Gatorade!
CAB – I’m not ashamed…even if that does make me a geek
I was mocking him because I obviously hadn’t gotten any of the across words and then he’s all of a sudden “oh, I just picked up the ol’ newspaper and figured it all out.”
And for the blog music: Self-Destructive Zones is Cooley at his very best. One of my favorite lines of all time is “Caught between a generation dying from its habits and another thinking rock and roll is new.”
Some other good ones : (to the evil empire that is called American Idol) –The young ‘uns all turn to karaoke, hanging all their wishes up on disregarded stars.
– “Dead (Cobain), fat (Noveselic), or rich (Grohl). Nobody’s left to bitch…”
This is sheer speculation (not that it’s stopped me before), but I wonder if Norton’s lack of production as a pinch hitter in 2009 has anything to do with his lack of playing time in the field. This year he’s logged only two games at 1B. In 2008, he played 11 games at 1B, 25 in LF, 2 in RF, and 8 as a DH. Granted, when he wasn’t pinch-hitting last season, his offensive output was terrible (OPS in the .600s and .700s), but perhaps getting some time in the field kept him from rusting on the bench.
Before 2007, playing defense didn’t seem to help his hitting. But maybe he’s at an age where sitting on the bench all the time hurts him. Hard to believe such an effective pinch hitter could be overmatched so quickly.
gLAD TO HEAR CHIPPER DOES NOT WANT TO PLAY MEDIOCRE BASEBALL. NOW IF BOBBY WOULD REALIZE THAT AND MOVE HIM WAY DOWN IN THE LINE UP, WE COULD GET SOME WINS, BUT BOBBY IS “THE PLAYERS BUDDY”, NOT A GOOD MANAGER. PERHAPS IT IS TIME CHIPPER RETIRED TO THE HEAD OFFICE AND LET AN UP AND COMING STAR (PRADO) BECOME THE 3RD BASEMAN WE SO DESPERATELY NEED. WE DO NOT NEED A LEADER THAT CAN NOT LEAD. HIS BODY HAS GOTTEN OLDER BEFORE IT’S TIME, FOR WHATEVER REASON, AND HE HAS NOT BEEN “MENTALLY” IN THE GAME FOR SOME TIME. MOSTLY BECAUSE HE HAS WORRIED MORE ABOUT HIS OWN IMAGE INSTEAD OF THE TEAM. AND FOR ALL YOU CHIPPER LOVERS OUT THERE (AND I HAVE BEEN ONE FOR YEARS) IT IS TIME TO LET GO.

Norton has a total of 9 hits this season. I am stunned. Stunned we keep using him as the primary bat off the bench.
Do you think he will reach 10 hits by the end of the year?

Bobby’s theme song, lyrics by the late great Warren Zevon
Well, I went to the Doctor
I said “I’m feeling kinda rough”
He said, “I’ll break it to you son
Your sh#t’s f##ked up.”
I said, “my sh#t”s f##ked up?”
Well, I don’t see how—”
He said, “The sh#t that used to work—
It won’t work now.”
