Before someone else posts it, let me go ahead and say: Mr. Norton did not lose this game for the Braves. But his mere presence on the roster, and continuing opportunities in game-changing situations is symbolic of what went wrong in 2009: improved starting pitching staff, offset by incredibly bad offensive managing by Bobby Cox.

It’s to the point for me that I’m over the frustration after a loss pretty quick. We should all be used to this feeling. It sucks but reality is we’re still in the WC race. This series with Fla. is it. You lose that series and the postseason hopes die out by a lot. The Philles aren’t a better team then us by much. Chipper is close to being done, I think. He really is and that’s where the inconsistant offense questions get answered.

The feast/famine offense will do that:

that just proves how inconsistent they are.

Lance

pryguy, i see your point, but i think there are valid reasons to be rolling your eyes at this team. they aren’t playing like a team with any urgency at all. it’s understandable to lose 2 of 3 in Philly, but 2 of 3 to San Diego?? they have opportunity after opportunity to do something here, and the only thing they’re doing consistently is blowing it.

what bothers me more is that this just feels like a team that, like so many other Braves teams, would get annihilated in the first round of the playoffs even if they did make it. so i’m not really sure what to hope for here. 20+ years of being a Braves fan and the years that are the most painful seem to be the ones where we actually make the playoffs, not the ones where we miss them. this team just doesn’t look capable to me.

Hugh,

Barring some unlucky bounces in the eighth, the offense was set to take the lead there. Cox has made moves this season that have won games, yet that is overlooked by mostly everyone on here. All they notice and point out are moves that are glaring and are easy to second guess after the fact.

In regards to Norton, now that is something you can call laughable. Not arguing with that point. But calling this team laughable is giving yourself no credibility immediately to me IMO.
