Yeah, you bunt your cleanup hitter who’s got about 3 career sacrifices. There’s brilliant strategy.

Regardless of whether you think he’s a good cleanup hitter or not, McCann doesn’t bunt. He hit the ball solidly too. Just right at Rollins.

Its not like McCann struck out though. 3 feet either way and he has a base hit and we score and everyone is happy. Chill out peeps got unlucky. Defense has beaten us tonight. BUT, if we can just get Norton an at bat we will win!!! CHOP CHOP!!!

Heath,
You don’t get an Escobar at-bat.
You get a LaRoche at-bat with the bases loaded, cause they wouldve intentionally walked Yunel.

Either way though, nothing was automatic even if McCann bunts. But if his linedrive is hit in a better spot, well, the Braves might have broken things open. Risk vs. Reward, I guess.

Even the greatest hitters fail 7 out of 10 times….McCann included. You bunt to stay out of the DP…having runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. With that situation, you don’t need a double or HR to take the lead. Heck, you don’t even need a hit to tie the game. If it were the 2nd inning, OK, I agree…but it was the 8th inning.

Brad Lidge against the Braves in 2009–8.10 ERA. 1.800 WHIP, 2 HR against.

Sure. Chipper won the batting title last year too. What’s that have to do with NOW?

Don’t let these silly little facts get in your way.

In the month of August, the Braves have played 26 games. McCann and Chipper have combined to bat .260 (41 for 171) with 8 HR and 29 RBI between them.

Not really the production you are looking for form the 3 and 4 spots in the order during the stretch drive, huh?

In the mean time, LaRoche has batted .375 (33 for 88) with 8 HR and 18 RBI himself during those same 26 games. Why not bat him 3rd or 4th?
