A bunt by McCann would be totally against Bobby’s goal of finishing .500.
Right now Garret’s stats should show 50 RBI and 50 runs allowed in LF. Let’s see if he can get ahead.

Just funny how Chipper comes up “clutch” by hitting a cue ball that came to a dead stop 200 feet from home plate … and McCann “chokes” By almost lodging a line drive in Utley’s abdomen.

Ugly inning. Never been so disappointed to only score 1 run.
I could care less whether McCann hit the ball hard that inning. When your offense collectively SUCKS A$$ for the first 7 innings of a game……..then hoping that your hard hit balls wont be hit right at someone is your only “strategy”, which kind of sucks.

That cannot be! In his epic blog novel I am always correct in my postings by Paul Lentz, the master teaches us that defense is not as important as offense. That bad defense is not relevant if you have a good hitter. He also teaches us that on-base percentage and slugging percentage are not important. We must worship batting average and RBI, for they are the way to Density.

Even if his bunt accomplishes nothing, 1 out is better than 2. And there’s a good chance they won’t be expecting it and he may get a base hit out of it.

Couldn’t be more true. Mac trying to hang in there against a tough lefty and he hits Utley with the ball, Utley didn’t make some outstanding play. They were going to get a DP regardless as hard as it was hit with Mac’s speed.

DOB or anybody.Has there been any mention of catching giving McCann sore/slow/injured hands or wrists ? When he was a great hitter (still good but certainly not great) his hands were the biggest reason in my opinion.
On that dp, he would have had a double at his best.His hands and wrists look both slower and weaker to me.

Ugh…why? He’s hit .207 against the Marlins this year with two homers and eight RBI. If not for July 30th and August 23rd, he’d have no hits, no RBI against them…
He’s never hit the Marlins very well from what I remember. But hey, he also used to hit the Fillies, so what am I talking about?
RHR I would have died if that had been a triple play.

Jake, I definitely think that Wren has options going into next season. Between basically having Hudson and Vazquez under contract and Heyward on the way, possibly Schafer, there should be some chips to make the team more balanced next year.
As for the pitchers to have used? If you take out Charlie Morton’s 1 IP/10ER performace a couple of weeks ago, the Pirates have gone 5-7 in his other 12 starts, while he has posted a 3.62 ERA in those starts (overall ERA is 5.00 with that gawd awful start on August 14th).
Wren had options to “fill” the 5th spot of the rotation and cross his fingers for a .500 record from that spot while adding more offense to the lineup.
But I think it’s safe to say we understand where each other is coming from.

I dont agree……………Mc has been a total clown …………. ZERO consistency…………you just cant count on him………..wonder WTH is he doing at the cleanup spot.
Im calling this one on COX………….you have to tie the game………….we had the chance to put the winning run at 2b……….all we had to do was bunt the ball. Of course, since we had our GREAT CLEANUP HITTER coming up, you just dont bunt the ball……..right? WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if Brian is not hitting as a cleanup hitter, you dont treat him like one……….you bunt the freaking ball and then your tying run is at 3b…………….I hate COX as much as John Miller!!!!!!!!!!!

The REAL underlying problem isn’t what Mac was going to do in the cleanup spot in that situation, but simply that fact that Mac is IN the cleanup spot, with the way he’s been hitting.

Hasn’t McCann been hitting the ball well as of late? Hasn’t he been one of our best hitters over the past 2-3 years? Isn’t he one of the hitters we want in that spot? Don’t be so critical when we had one of the best hitters on our club hitting in that spot. Instead, because he is hitting 4, you find fault somehow with where Bobby placed him in the lineup. Not surprising you would have something of the such to say, anyway.

Those of you criticizing Bobby for now having McCann bunt simply arent thinking straight. McCann has doubles/home run power. You dont “waste” his bat by having him bunt. Just not wise to do that.
Using Soriano right now was the right move by Bobby. Soriano is fresh, has great stuff. It is absolutely imperative that the Phillies do not score this inning.
