Gotta give props to Steve Philips for pointing out that he was doing Chipper a favor by going to the offspeed stuf, and then on the next pitch, he hits a changeup to RF for a BH.
You could clearly see Prado pull his hand back towards his body to avoid contact with the runner. You have to catch that ball – even if it hurts. Prado was sent down for his final time last year for backing away from a McCann throw at second. BC sent him down after the game for letting a ball that was fading back towards the runner go into the outfield. That along with his reluctance to stay in front of hard hit balls is why I have never backed him as the starter.
yeah keylargo, Prado should totally have risked injury on an almost certain safe-call. Braves havent had any trouble with starter injuries this year at all.
KL–yeah, Prado should’ve caught that basd on the camera angle I saw, but it was a tough play for both parties. As a 3B, you know that throw is going to tail toward the runner every single time. Bad throw, bad reception, bad result. Each should get a 1/2 error.
N8, I get what you’re saying, we definately would have been a better offense with someone like Ibanez or Abreu or someone that Wren could have traded for but I still maintain that how much better would it have been if we still had to rely on the struggling trio that was Frenchy/KJ/Schafer. Not to mention the struggles that Jojo Reyes who can’t seem to figure it out and Kris Medlen who doesn’t quite strike you as putting together the type of numbers that JJ or Hanson have given you in their rookie campaigns. Besides Medlen has been a big part of our bullpen right now. With Campillo hurt and Carlyle who fills his spot. I just don’t think at the end of the day it would have made that big of a difference in our record. Maybe slighty better in the short term but I think what it afforded us long term with Tommy Hanson outweighs that. Not to mention the options we now have with either dealing Vazquez for something or freeing up money by declining Hudson’s option.
