We are fine we are getting at least 1 back this inning. Come down to getting one on Lidge.
Teams are gonna score more than one run usually, our bats are going to HAVE to step up.
Offense, do something! Stop putting our pitchers through this constant pressure of having to pitch a shutout to win.
August 30th, 200910:01 pm
Nice to know Idiot Joe Morgan is going to keep the hit “a double” in his book. This guy needs to get the boot ala Joe Theismann and Paul Maguire …
Wow. Remember a couple of years ago when we had the OF that covered more grass than kudzu?
These stiffs let the kudzu grow over them, they’re so slow and inept.
What’s more depressing about Chipper’s play right now, the field or the bat?
curtis jones – Rosie O’Donnell could have gotten to that ball and she would have held on to it.
Only if it had mustard and ketchup on it.
As bad as that inning was…still not the defense or the pitching to blame. The Braves had a hittable pitcher facing them, and well, didn’t.
Loaf did the best he could, they’re right.
I don’t disagree with you, but that’s example number 94,582,283,450 of why errors are stupid. A more rangy outfielder gets to that ball quicker. If you just suck and can’t get there you aren’t charged with an error, though. How is this useful?
Error on GA or not, Chipper’s lack of focus and Prado’s inexperience playing 1st cost JJ and the Braves big time. Of course, if I’m Prado then I’m hesitant to stick my arm out in front of a charging runner risking breaking my arm to, so…

Gotta get “younger than Garret” in LF? Well, let’s see, the list would include Lonnie Smith, Otis Nixon, Rico Carty….
In my 9:59pm posting, I meant to say that “Frank Wren needs to get someone who can play some strong 3rd base”.
Jake W. I thought (even at the time – if you want to look it up, you can), that we could have recieved a ML ready “stop gap” bat for Flowers, not a pitcher. That being said, I understand that without trading for Vazquez, perhaps Lowe and KK don’t sign. So I get it.
BRAVES DEFENSE SHOWS UP TO RUIN THE DAY (sigh)
My point about the pitching is as follows. It is really elementary. We have gone 14-12 with Vazquez’s INCREDIBLE performance this year. He really has surpassed what I expected of him. For that he deserves credit.
So, let’s assume that in a worst case scenario, the team would have lost ALL of his starts (when was the last time that has happened to a spot in anybody’s rotation?). That gives us 14 more losses.
Do you not think having a guy like Ibanez or Abreu (yeah, I know they were free agents – which is why Wren needed to TRADE for a bat, not rely on free agency), wouldn’t have made the difference in around 14 more wins along the way since we’ve literally had zero production from the cleanup spot (not to mention Chipper’s down year)??
In the end, I think we maybe lose another 6 or 7 games with “another” starter (say Medlen) in Vazquez’ spot, and win more than 6 or 7 more games with a big bopper in the middle of the lineup.
I stand by what I’ve said all along. We could have used a big bat, rather than Vazquez. Despite his numbers and ERA.
The ONLY factor that I’m willing to concede in having Vazquez, is that he’s an innings eater (when Bobby allows him to be – early in the year he was pulling him too early, imo). With a guy like Medlen, the team’s W-L results might not have been much different than the 14-12, but the taxing of the bullpen more than likely would have been.
Like I said. It’s the same argument I’ve been using since December of last year, and I stand by it. Unless you think us scoring 1 run off of Joe Blanton in the middle of a wild-card chase is “acceptable”?
Pathetic – this team just doesn’t have it. Chipper needs to wake the heck up – he looks like he is sleeping on the job. Take a day or two off or something – his lack of energy is a drain on the team and he is just sloppy. Oh well – Mad Men is on anyway.
thats because garret constantly gives up runs and doesn’t make catches that pretty much a normal outfielder could. happens way to often. don’t start that crap sir.
What is Chippers injury?
Rob from SC
Chipper’s contract is what happens when GM’s get emotional. Wren was ruthless with Smoltz and Glavine, but got soft with Chipper. A GM must be cold and leave his emotions at home.
All for Infante playing third say “AYE!”
chipper and loaf hopefully make up for their errors with thier bats..
Wow, even DOB is saying it’s over.
A good team would come back. They have to be able to do something for F’s sake.
Hell, even if Garrett catches the ball its still 2-1 right now. The play that killed the inning was Chipper’s. And again, how do you get surprised by a bunt in that situation?
August 30th, 200910:03 pm
Error against Garret changed to double, one run now earned in that inning.
Francoeur and Jerrgins..What a way to lose…..New gay sports bar opening in Atlanta, Saddlescores, Wash the men too. Tell your boss to pay you in singles.
Witch Doctor Soriano
Count de Monet
I had a bad feeling last night when they scored 9 runs. I figured they would be offensively challenged tonight. Hope they put Lidge in the game.
1-2-3 inning folks. 3 hits tonight…pathetic.
Gov Clinton Tyree
Way to take one for the team, Matty.
come on Prado…another hr out to left!
Our D could go from horrible to awesome next year if Heyward and Schafer are ready.
Saving Matty from the 0-fer and the blog curse.
GD Anderson!. Has there been a more disinterested outfielder?
This is my fault. I was happily watching the Bronco game, and changed channels to watch the Braves. All my fault.
Very good point. Blanton pitched well, but he is not someone we should have only managed one run on 3 hits… Offense may have cost us this one, but still time left to make up for it… GOOD START MATTY.
we have a baserunner. we’re in business
August 30th, 200910:04 pm
It’s time for the offense to be clutch. We have the top of our order coming up.
They changed it to a DOUBLE???
Right. That makes a ton of sense. And that play Utley made in game 2 of the season remained an error…
Wonder if the Rangers will take Chipper for Blaylock straight up???
Well, at least Blanton didnt give the home plate umpire a fist bump.
Blanton giving props to the ump. Kind of unusual…
ESPN has been licking the Phillies balls ALL NIGHT. It is getting f*cking annoying.
August 30th, 200910:05 pm
whats up with the umpiring… for about a week now i dont know whats a ball or strike anymore… its like they call it when their ready for dramatic effect…
Isn’t that like a fist bump?
Wow, the Braves collapse late in a game against a team that they have to beat, what a f’n surprise.. Garret Anderson couldn’t make that catch? I have seen little league players make that catch in the LL World Series tournament this year..
Not only is Chipper struggling at the plate at the most critical time of the season, but he makes a stupid throw that allows two guys to get into scoring position, and they both ended up scoring.. He should have held on to that ball, and the Braves could have tried for a DP, but now the game is over.. THANKS FOR BLOWING ANOTHER SERIES!! I KNEW I COULD TRUST YOU TO SCREW UP AGAIN!!
ok,forget the hr…just slap a single to right…or walk…
This would be a GREAT TIME for Chipper to atone for his error.
I’m thinkin you guys can probably tell which posts are actually mine and which posts are from the kid in middle school.
Incredible…I always said, our defense would kill us. Sorry….it has gotten better with Prado, but still…we have a ground out type pitcher…not strikeout pitchers so our infield has to be fine and perfect! it is not!
atone. atone. Chip…
Come on Chipper – do something productive.
no inning killers Chipper!
August 30th, 200910:06 pm
Here we go!! Let’s keep this going…just no HOMERUN, don’t wanna kill this rally.
Yeah, baby. Go Marteen.
Cmon, Chipper. If you have anything left in the tank, now would be a good time to burn it.
Now Chipper gets a chance to make amends. . .
2 on, no out! time to redeem yourself, Chipper. you owe JJ
Come on Chipper dammit!
ok….there ya go!! ok chipper…this is what you get paid to do!! heart of the order up…need to get these runs in!
CHIPPPERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR this is an MVP type situation!
Bunt with Chipper
Paul L., I totally agree with your assesment of the Smoltz/KJ comparison. It’s apples and organges regarding their talent level. Smoltz is a hall of fame pitcher, and KJ can’t even hold down a starting job.
here we go baby. when we come back this inning just go look at my previous posts please. B-mac 3-run homer here.
I agree with the call, I don’t think that should have been an error either. Damn. Tough crowd. What more could he have done?
Hugh Jazz, the only reason I can think that ESPN is “licking Philly balls” is because they think everybody just watching a ‘baseball game’ is interested in the defending world champs. That network is so predictable, it’s disgusting.
chilidog – yes we can, don’t worry.
lets see if he is worth his extension and all that big money!
get to this guy before we see Park
Can’t re-sign Anderson. We need to get younger in LF
How about just better?
August 30th, 200910:07 pm
According to Joe Morgan, the home plate ump is Lance Berkman. I guess he has the day off from the Astros. The home plate ump was supposed to be Lance Barksdale, but apparently Lance Berkman is filling in. Because Joe Morgan is never wrong.
WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY late on fastballs!
“The right-hander’s loosened up…”–Steve Phillips
Chip can’t hit a fastball right now
he’s way late on these fastballs…hopefully he runs into one here…
3 run banana shaped arch please
Pitch #2 – Chipper makes a meatball out of that just two seasons ago.
fastballs right by him!!!
Mac his due…he’s 1 for 11 in this series!
It’s like the Marlins and Braves are conjoined. Neither can shake the other. Probably going to enter this four-game series tied again, barring some late developments here.
Wow, amazing espn got a error ruling changed, now thats power
August 30th, 200910:08 pm
WOW! Chipper looks horrendoussssssss
I don’t even wanna hit refresh if Chipper doesn’t do anything here.
Chipper don’t screw up! If you do, I’ll kill you!
Chipper’s hunched over, curling his hands over the bat…his posture looks terrible.
come on chipper!!
You Know Who
**%& you, Rob from SC!
As long as he doesn’t kill the rally with a homer.
late developments like THAT, for instance…
good shyt. CHip!!!
I LOVE YOU CHIPPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wooooooooh! Great job Chipper!
well, it’s one but it’ll have to work chipper
LETS GO CHOP CHOP!!!!!
YES!!!!!! Diaz, you’re an animal!
Good baserunning by both runners!
Oh my God, Chipper did something.
Nice…. come on Mac!!!
If we had 9 Matt Diaz’s in the batting order….
Suck it haters!
Way to hustle Matty D! I don’t think anyone else on our team coulda scored there lol.
Another rope by Chipper Jones!
And Marteeen, it wouldnt be a bad idea to get to third on that, big guy.
Yes! Chipper! Hahaha good hustle, Matty D!
