Teams are gonna score more than one run usually, our bats are going to HAVE to step up.
Offense, do something! Stop putting our pitchers through this constant pressure of having to pitch a shutout to win.

As bad as that inning was…still not the defense or the pitching to blame. The Braves had a hittable pitcher facing them, and well, didn’t.

Loaf did the best he could, they’re right.
I don’t disagree with you, but that’s example number 94,582,283,450 of why errors are stupid. A more rangy outfielder gets to that ball quicker. If you just suck and can’t get there you aren’t charged with an error, though. How is this useful?

Error on GA or not, Chipper’s lack of focus and Prado’s inexperience playing 1st cost JJ and the Braves big time. Of course, if I’m Prado then I’m hesitant to stick my arm out in front of a charging runner risking breaking my arm to, so…

Jake W. I thought (even at the time – if you want to look it up, you can), that we could have recieved a ML ready “stop gap” bat for Flowers, not a pitcher. That being said, I understand that without trading for Vazquez, perhaps Lowe and KK don’t sign. So I get it.
BRAVES DEFENSE SHOWS UP TO RUIN THE DAY (sigh)
My point about the pitching is as follows. It is really elementary. We have gone 14-12 with Vazquez’s INCREDIBLE performance this year. He really has surpassed what I expected of him. For that he deserves credit.
So, let’s assume that in a worst case scenario, the team would have lost ALL of his starts (when was the last time that has happened to a spot in anybody’s rotation?). That gives us 14 more losses.
Do you not think having a guy like Ibanez or Abreu (yeah, I know they were free agents – which is why Wren needed to TRADE for a bat, not rely on free agency), wouldn’t have made the difference in around 14 more wins along the way since we’ve literally had zero production from the cleanup spot (not to mention Chipper’s down year)??
In the end, I think we maybe lose another 6 or 7 games with “another” starter (say Medlen) in Vazquez’ spot, and win more than 6 or 7 more games with a big bopper in the middle of the lineup.
I stand by what I’ve said all along. We could have used a big bat, rather than Vazquez. Despite his numbers and ERA.
The ONLY factor that I’m willing to concede in having Vazquez, is that he’s an innings eater (when Bobby allows him to be – early in the year he was pulling him too early, imo). With a guy like Medlen, the team’s W-L results might not have been much different than the 14-12, but the taxing of the bullpen more than likely would have been.
Like I said. It’s the same argument I’ve been using since December of last year, and I stand by it. Unless you think us scoring 1 run off of Joe Blanton in the middle of a wild-card chase is “acceptable”?

Pathetic – this team just doesn’t have it. Chipper needs to wake the heck up – he looks like he is sleeping on the job. Take a day or two off or something – his lack of energy is a drain on the team and he is just sloppy. Oh well – Mad Men is on anyway.

Chipper’s contract is what happens when GM’s get emotional. Wren was ruthless with Smoltz and Glavine, but got soft with Chipper. A GM must be cold and leave his emotions at home.

Wow, the Braves collapse late in a game against a team that they have to beat, what a f’n surprise.. Garret Anderson couldn’t make that catch? I have seen little league players make that catch in the LL World Series tournament this year..
Not only is Chipper struggling at the plate at the most critical time of the season, but he makes a stupid throw that allows two guys to get into scoring position, and they both ended up scoring.. He should have held on to that ball, and the Braves could have tried for a DP, but now the game is over.. THANKS FOR BLOWING ANOTHER SERIES!! I KNEW I COULD TRUST YOU TO SCREW UP AGAIN!!

Paul L., I totally agree with your assesment of the Smoltz/KJ comparison. It’s apples and organges regarding their talent level. Smoltz is a hall of fame pitcher, and KJ can’t even hold down a starting job.
