Chris from Md: Gotta have 507 plate appearances in full season. Diaz has 304 before tonight. He can’t get it.
Even if we wanted to trade Chipper and he would accept, there wouldn’t be enough of a market for him to get the kind of return we’d need. Unless he started hitting .350 again. But then, why would we trade him?
August 28th, 20099:40 pm
I dont feel good about this game at all. I see Medlen giving up about 4 runs in 3 innings pitched. We’d be lucky to score 2 runs tonight off of Moyer.
Now prove me wrong Bravos.
Those powerhouse Padres are up 9-3 with 2 on in top of the 7th against the Fish
Brooklyn Braves Brawler
IF Kris was any kind of man, he would bean Jaime Moyer and call it a death panel. Put the guy out of his misery
August 28th, 20099:41 pm
Why does all the kid get those foul balls, those little shets don’t deserve ‘em.
August 28th, 20099:42 pm
With Huddy coming back maybe Bobby will let KK pinch hit and send Norton down??
August 28th, 20099:43 pm
Chong (August 28th, 2009 6:49 pm): “After smoking a carefully selected blend of herbs I have come to the following . . . Random = Mitchell = You all are Cox apologist = BravesFaninWis = PL”
Musta been some mighty powerful medicine there, ’cause I have never hesitated to hammer each of those other individuals (with the exception of BravesFaninWis, since after all — who’s HE?), share no common perspective with any of them and oppose everything they stand for.
I consider them of a breed with such other mouth-breathing bottom-feeders as Jeff321, MFin04, Braves Fan in SC and Rob from SC.
So you take that back, Chong! Right now!!!
RHR (August 28th, 2009 4:58 pm): “Besides, I’m pretty sure I’ve grown on him and he’d take back his jerkish nutbagish comments if he weren’t so crotchety.”
Let’s just leave my crotch out of this discussion, shall we?
Damn Medlen! Now I’ll really go gay for you….
Medlen’s changeup is nasty
Sorry To Say But...
I bet Boston would take Chipper and give us some nice players in return. Maybe not a 5-1 deal, but certainly a 3-1 with maybe Lester and at least one other worthy addition.
We gotta score. Nine more outs and this game is official.
August 28th, 20099:44 pm
Little Med’s the man.
Medlen looks good
You see Medlen get off that mound?
August 28th, 20099:45 pm
Are you serious? I’m thinking we’d get two or three marginal prospects at best for Chipper. We’d have to trade someone like Escobar or Jurrjens to get Lester from Boston. I know fans tend to overvalue their players, but come on…
Sorry To Say But…
August 28th, 2009
Maybe they’ll throw in running water and in-door toilets for a few of us souther hicks too! (Had to read my earlier story to get this…)
I learned something in “class” today. Thanks for the search lesson.

“Stupid Phillies Fans”
Nope, they’re from the North, automatically makes them smart. Good start by the little righty though. Philly has the definate advantage now. they have the better lineup and they usuaully eat up subpar pitching. Hopefully the braves will give the bullpen some run support.
Garrett crushed that ball. Foul by about 10 feet?
August 28th, 20099:47 pm
That was foul by like 50ft.
Are You Serious?
Maybe we can trade Moyer for Lowe and make him our ace?
August 28th, 20099:48 pm
It’s hilarious when Esco checks his swing.
August 28th, 20099:49 pm
Chipper isn’t done he’s just not worth the payroll space anymore and he isn’t likely to get any better. Boston needs a Chipper Jones as does other contenders. But that’s getting way ahead, I’m just saying it should no longer be off the table for discussion.
This is pathetic
August 28th, 20099:50 pm
Sorry to Say But…. Uh, you’d have been better off saying you were joking. Really.
“…but that girl got my attention.”
HA HA HA HA HA HA
Stop swinging at ball 4!
Wow. There is NO WAY thats a strike. None.
August 28th, 20099:51 pm
Bobby Cox and Chipper Jones… not going anywhere.
Get used to it. Learn to love it.
Little league strike zone, i thought I saw Angel at a couple of those games.
Angel Hernandez is an effin idiot. His strike zone is wacked out.
Oh yeh, I love the Moyer vs Medlen matchup. Moyer sucks sooo bad. Sucks soo bad he is unhittable….except for our .500 hitter Matt Diaz….
Yes, if I were Wren I’d explore trading Lowe too. The Braves would have to eat a big chunk of his salary, but then they might get a player that helps them too. It’s not as if he isn’t expendable. I’m ok with Huddy and Javy leading the staff next year.
wow Braves are really fighting hard tonight
Jurrjens4NLCY: Slow down on the Jager shots, dude. Long night ahead.
August 28th, 20099:52 pm
Hey guys. With two strikes — he just might use the changeup to try and get you out. Maybe.
I hate watching Moyer pitch, just like I hate watching L Hernadez pitch. It’s not entertainment, it’s excruciating pain. And why is it that they never have the off nights that balloon their ERA’s against us?
DOB, I didn’t see your post, do you really think 10 ft? I didn’t see it real well…
Maybe the Braves are as distracted by the Phillies ball girl and Joe? Hey…ya never know.
DOB, I don’t drink, and I know the future….
August 28th, 20099:53 pm
They on’t get a lead in the next inning or two they are treading dangerous ground in this weather
Does anybody above the age of, like 20, drink Jager?
I mean, i had a Jager night once in college. Once.
But I learned my lesson and haven’t gone back since.
Love that Moyer vs Medlen matchup. It’s just as good as Pedro vs Hanson. Lol.
Sorry to Say But…
Again, realistically, it just won’t happen. Nobody trades for pitchers with that much money left on their contract, no matter how good they are. If by “eat a big chunk of his salary”, you mean pay about 50 of the 60 million, then maybe. If not, we would have to be the one to throw in prospects to make the deal.
Anyone think Diaz should hit 4th?
August 28th, 20099:54 pm
oops…meant to say like Joe…not and Joe there in my 9:52 post.
Kris Medlen the Lesbian giving up a leadoff hit, definitely like the Moyer vs Medlen matchup.
August 28th, 20099:55 pm
Damn Ugly. Uh oh, Howard. Dun, dun, dun.
You are right as usual DOB, but it should no longer be beyond the pale to discuss it.That’s a whole lot of payroll to be used elsewhere and trading these guys now while they still have value is coldblooded, but it’s a business.
We might not get another hit (except diaz) the rest of the night.
Now, a veteran but not-too-old guy making an affordable salary with one year left on his contract, who is having a career year? That is trade material right there. Vazquez is the only pitcher we could trade that would give a good return.
August 28th, 20099:56 pm
Keep pitching to him. It’s working well.
I miss the pouring rain
This is getting old.
Why pitch to him? WHY? We all know what he is going to do.
For the love of all things scared and holy WALK HIM!!!!
What the hell are these pitchers thinking?
When are we goin to f’n hit this SOB?!
Well, there’s 2 of the 4 runs I predicted that Medlen would give up in 3 innings (if he last that long).
Still love the Moyer vs Medlen matchup? Keep pitching Ryan Howard away…he loves that pitch, homerun derby!!!
Medlen just gave Hanson his birthday gift, a big fat LOSS.
We never learn. I hate being a Braves fan right now.
August 28th, 20099:57 pm
I agree with Joe too…pitch INSIDE.
Ballgame…Sorry but know way the Braves win, I pray I’m wrong…
I said he’d get two earlier……perhaps three or four?
“if you leave that ball middle of the plate away to him, you’re just asking for trouble.”
- Joe Simpson
Mcdowell you are starting to look friggin stupid if your guys keep pitching to him
You need to call a clubhouse meeting, DOB. Or at least a bullpen meeting. Apparently our pitchers haven’t been given the ole “don’t let Ryan Howard beat ya, just walk him” speech.
Where’s the heart? Where’s the intensity? Where’s the will to win? I guess they took another vote B4 the game and were unhappy about getting wet,so they ain’t in the mood to play tonight. Oh well. There’s always next year.
Game over braves must be stupid why in the hell would you keep pitching to him. Phillies are about to claim the east and the braves will be done after this series wow this team is a joke.
We look like the first game of the Padres series….again.
Steve from OH
That’s a whole lot of payroll to be used elsewhere
And what do you suggest?
P.S.–I see you don’t want to use your real handle, huh? Don’t be scared.
Come on Med, after all the props I gave you today? Not cool.
the hopes of the braves nation rest in your hands mr. hanson
joe can get annoying at times… but he is dead on about these pitches on the outside corner that keep getting belted by howard. either put him on or jam him. its really that simple.
August 28th, 20099:58 pm
Trade Norton for Nick Green real quick?
We’re done folks….face it!
Blog keeps eating my posts…try #3…
I meant MFin04 not you. Sorry about that…I had a major brain fart on that one. props to you for the catch.
Medlen’s stuff looks sloppy right now
Moyer has 4 SO in 2 innings? Haha, typical Braves. A 3 run deficit is a blowout to them, its all good. This season has been over for weeks.
I’d like the Medlen-Moyer match-up if the Braves didn’t have a bi-polar offense.
I take it back, I was a douchebag before. Medlen vs Moyer is definitely not as good (IMO) as Pedro vs Hanson. Bobby should have kept Hanson out until the rain passed.
August 28th, 20099:59 pm
Could Hanson get the lose? Of course he could because thats baseball.
18 homers and 50 RBI for Howard in his past 41 games against Braves. Staggering.
People, both pitches Howard hit out were off-speed pitches, which means they were mis-executed. They surely didn’t mean to throw them in the strike zone. Now if they were throwing fastballs out there, you’d have a point.
i just don’t get it. I mean, every pitch is down to Howard. The best place to get him out is under his hands or above them. You’ve got him looking down in the zone….CHANGE THE F’ING PATH THE PITCH IS THROWN INTO. I’m sure this stuff was covered in the pre-series meetings. Damn it I’m pissed. When I was younger I would have smashed the remote after a pitch like that.
Yep. One or the other. Pitching him away and leaving the ball anywhere near the strikezone is just not working….at all.
Ya see what happens when we start losing? The idiots and name-theives come out. Later!
August 28th, 200910:00 pm
Runner on first, nobody out. You don’t walk someone.
It’s not like Jordan Shaffer is on deck behind the guy. It’s Werth and Ibanez.
That said, he needs to wear a fastball in the back his next pitch.
Isn’t that like 4 home runs in his last 5 at-bats against this staff?
He needs to be REAL uncomfortable next time up.
Brian, I think it depends on the team, their payroll, and their needs. Lowe hasn’t pitched in the southern heat before and I think he has been worn out…and it’s been a cool Summer! I don’t hate these guys and it’s ok not to trade them too, but if I’m Wren I’m exploring it because I need some payroll flexibility to fix the offense (Heyward is not enough) and build a deeper pen. I love KK too, but I sure would call Seattle and LA and see if they have any interest.
Howard against use this year reminds me of Chipper vs. the Mets in ‘99. We all wondered why the Mets kept pitching to him. Same thing here. ARRRRGGHH!!!!
Nice double play.
I love those kind of DP’s – the other kind is just gross
August 28th, 200910:01 pm
Yeah i have to say going away against this guy isn’t working. Might want to trying going in against him. Can’t hurt since he seems to only hit homeruns against us if we pitch against him. Need the braves to make some adjustments against Jamie Moyer. You are finally in the ballpark where those flyouts at turner would be homeruns and now you’re striking out.
Nice play Esco!
Did any fans go home? geez, that place is still packed.
Escobar is a great great player!
