I’ll admit that is a possibility. I just think that based on their track records and the history of similar players, JJ is MUCH, MUCH more likely to give you a better return on his salary then Jones, even in the Boras arbitration years.

The Skeeter is here! And so are my beloved Phillies. You guys watch the old man school the young one tonight. It will be quite memorable to watch hanson only pitch 3 1/3 innings while giving up 8 runs while pedro pitches 8 innings of shut out ball tonight.

The only way Pedro shuts us down for 8 innings is if Greg Norton was our only hitter, and even then, he might walk in a run. Guys got eagle eyes.

And I’ve got it all figured out–if tonight’s game is rained out, the Fillies cann have Martinez pitch tomorrow night, and then Lee cann pitch game one of the doubleheader on Sunday. With that being a DGANG, Bobby cann give Ross the start against Lee…

Here are his numbers for this year which carry more weight than when he was up 2 years ago (2007)
IN 189 ab’s he has 15 2b, 15 hr’s and 8 sb’s.
.291/.353/.608./.961
Look at the ab’s. multiply everything by 3 – 45 doubles, 45 homers, 24 stolen bases. OPS of .961
Yes, that guy can be my corner outfielder.

Surely we’ve discussed this, but I don’t remember a consensus opinion:
Should FW offer Javy (+ change) for Fielder in the offseason? They need pitching, we need offense. I believe Prince’s contract is also up after 2010, which would be perfect if Freeman progresses. He’s here for a year, Braves get a few draft picks or resign him. (I think Prince is eligible for FA after next year.)
This is contigent, of course, on Hudson being strong (and staying next year) and the willingness to take on a player with a bit of an attitude problem (so it seems).
Anyway, just couldn’t remember what all of you that are smarter than me came up with about this subject.

Just noticed that the rain is no longer banging against my philly hotel window so it looks like kittens and puppies out there now rather than cats and dogs… Gonna wear my McCann T taking the subway to the stadium if it looks like they will play… but I just noticed they are not selling on stubhub anymore for tonight… not sure when they usually cutoff sales, but thought it was closer to game time than this… maybe they know more about the plans due to rain…

That’s a bit of a small sample size to be projecting the guy has a 40-home run hitter.
Instead of multiplying everyting by three, why don’t we see what his stats look like at the end of NEXT year (when he has to start making adjustments to major-league pitching, because he most certainly will)?
If he has 40 homers and 40 doubles, then yep, that could be my corner OF, too.

The Braves are 17-14 vs. Nats, Reds, Pirates, Padres, and D-Backs.
The Phillies are 24-7 vs. the same teams.
Difference is the number of games we’re out of division lead.
Hanson is 7 games over .500. The Braves are 7 games over. He is the real deal!
SWEEP this weekend or I won’t need to purchase playoff tickets.

Still raining, and we could have a verdict soon. They’re meeting again now to try to make a decision. One forecast indicated no way they could play, another had small chance.
Problem is, forecast tomorrow is also bad until early evening, so DH would be hard until Sunday. And on Sunday, with the ESPN game at 8, they’d have to start at 1 and hope for no rain delays that would carry it into that ESPN slot.

nolie in his career, laroche has a .773OPS in the first half. kotchman for the braves this year had a .764OPS, and has a .749OPS for his entire career. so, yeah, learoche in the first half is still better than casey kotchman. (DAP)

So you all might know Cliff Lee is 5-0 with a 0.68 ERA in five starts since joining the Phillies. But it gets better (or worse, depending on your view).
Dude is 8-0 with an 0.97 ERA and .198 opponents’ average in his past eight starts.

While Price Fielder is not the RH bat that we need, he’s definitely the type of power/cleanup hitter that we are sorely lacking.
If a trade can be worked out for Fielder from the Brewers for Javy (some sort of package centered around those 2 guys), I’d be in OK with that b/c it makes sense for both teams.
Brewers pretty bad SP, Braves lack a cleanup hitter.
I think addressing the number 4 slot in the lineup is the number 1 priority, more so than finding a ‘true lead off guy’.

I used to travel quite a bit, I’ve flown United, Northwest, Delta, Continental, Midwest, Southwest, US Airways and several foreign airlines… I found Continental to be the best. Northwest was only good if I was traveling overseas. Delta was crap.

Um…his name is PRINCE, and um…he’s a left-handed hitter. You are probably thinking about Cecil, his had, who is a right-handed hitter. He’s quite the power hitter,too, but he’s old, and was slow and played horrible defense even when he was young.

DOB You should have taken Airtran, they have the smallest lost luggage percantage of all major airlines. I’m done with Delta. I am actually on one of their flights right now from San diego using the wi-fi for the first time and this is awsome. I get to watch my braves (on inet)for the first time ever during a flight. Well, you can probably mark off Holliday and Bay from the list of guys Wren will target for 2010, right? I mean, major dollars with the big teams all getting their paws in that jar. If you look at the FA hitters on the market this winter, those two are the only ones worth the hassel. Not happening though.
It’s all just guessing right now because GM’s can put a star hitter out there at the last second, so anything is possible for the Braves. You just have to love how Wren understands keeping your young guns, Heyward/Freeman/Hanson, is the best way to keep your team better for longer.

CaliChopper: The Band of Skulls female singer definitely has some Chrissie Hynde tendencies, as well as Karen O from Yeah Yeah Yeahs. If you like that, you should also try Spinnerette, the new band with Brody Dalle, the tattooed girl from the Derailers. The band also has Jack Irons (Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam) and some other accomplished dudes from Queens of the Stone Age and other bands. They rock.

I wonder who will manage the Braves next year? I sure hope it’s none of the guys who are currently coaches. The Braves need a young manager, someone who isn’t scard to get in a player’s face. They also need a manager that isn’t loyal to a fault, one who will play the best nine guys evey night, regardless of what they did last year. Any manager with good sense wouldn’t even allow Norton on the team bus, especially not pinch hitting in key spots. Face it fellows, the Braves will be losers as long as Cox manages. His post season record speaks for itself.
