Jurrjens is only of only five pitchers who’ve made three starts at Citizens Bank Park without allowing a homer: Billingsley, Jurrjens, Loaiza, Tim Redding, Jaret Wright. Jurrjens is trying to become the first to go four without giving up one (Lee hasn’t allowed one in his first two starts here; tonight is just his third)
I had a friend of mine who worked in the White Sox organization. He said AA is where you find the prospects. At AAA are the guys who are the career minor leaguers or major leaguers looking for another shot and maybe you have a couple of kids who can help you down the road.
But at AA, you’ll have a half dozen or more of the guys you’re counting on in the near future. There’s nothing at AAA Heyward can do that he can’t do at AA, unless he’s going to go up against a big leaguer on a rehab assignment. I don’t see Heyward spending more than a few weeks – ever – at AAA, if he even spends any time there.
Regardless of how many “top prospects” are at AA compared to AAA, the level of play is still going to be higher there. Heyward is a special prospect and he may not need that extra time in the minors, but it’s not going to hurt him to spend some time there.
I really don’t know what to think about the Braves sometimes when they just don’t show up in games like last night or against the Marlins on Friday or the Padres, but with the exception of the Sunday night game against the Phillies at home when Javy gave up the homerun to Howard, the Braves could have won almost every game in the season series.
We had game three of the opening series in April until the bullpen gave it up. We won two of three again in Phillie in May… okay, I forgot about the JoJo Reyes game, that game was over in the second inning… that makes two games we lost fair and square.
Then we sweep but lose the Friday night game in the following series at home which we absolutely should have won.
Whatever. They’re a good team, there’s no getting around it but we should beat them…
This inning is a joke. Lowe looks out of shape. I don’t remember him having a gut last season. Spend some of that 60 Million in the offseason on a gym membership
That’s a throw that Kotchman probably isn’t able to make to home. LaRoche has the better arm, no doubt.
Kotchman might have made a play on the ball that Howard hit to LaRoche’s right just while ago, when confusion reigned. But I don’t think Lowe or Prado gets to the base ahead of Howard anyway, for him to toss to if he does make a play.
nolie, Efrim, I don’t think Newman is a professional scout and I don’t think he pretends to be one. He just sees the teams that come thru Savannah and tries to give a bit of info on them…and he does it for free, so I can’t complain!
When we lost 2 of 3 at home against the Phillies, people were complaining that a lot of our balls that we hit to the warning track in Atlanta, would have been homers in Philly.
Well, we come to Philly and our bats are pretty quiet. Our offense is playing like they are playing at Petco Park in San Diego.
In big games, our offense simply does not show up. Then again, I’m sure that many of you will say “Uh, Cliff Lee is a tough pitcher”. My response is “what about Pedro Martinez, Jamie Moyer, and Brad Lidge”? Brad Lidge has been getting rocked by everyone in the 9th inning. However, we made him look like Mariano Rivera last night. Moyer looked like Glavine in his prime last night. And we made Pedro look like the Pedro of old.
Yet I’m totally off base when I say that this team “mentally takes nights off” offensively.
Roman Gal, usually as many and sometimes more fillers at triple A than double A.
Yeah, but the “fillers” at AAA are way better than the fillers at AA. If you’re a pitcher, do you want to face Brandon Jones, Brooks Conrad and Brian Barton or Greg Creek, Concepcion Rodriguez and Ernesto Mejia?
That homer off Lee would have been off the wall in Atlanta. First time we took advantage of this park this series.
Freaking Gorecki gets a rip. Looks like I’ll have to crank up the offensively negative postings tonight………..it seems like that is the only way they will get “motivated”.

Lowe’s thrown 45 pitches through two innings. Better put the bullpen on standby — and not just to catch homers hit by the Phillies.
