What did they do with Humpty Dumpty after the fall? Had an open-egg-sac funeral after sweeping.

After last night’s eruption, I think we have a good chance tonight if we hit Pedro early on. If we can pull off a big inning and be a few runs ahead by the 4th or 5th, Tommy can settle in just fine. I’d say we will probably tack at least 8 hits off Pedro.

Damn rain – I planned on tailgating all day tomorrow while waiting for the evening game, but we might be playing two now. Forecast doesn’t look good tomorrow either DOB.
My guess is DOB’s luggage is on the wrong luggage rack somewhere in the airport. Philly loves to tell you to go to one luggage rack, only to find out your luggage is on another rack. Just a little game the airport likes to play.

Don’t believe the Braves will make the playoffs until they actually make it. This stupid BUSINESS LIKE approach is boring the fans, plus it didn’t work when the games really mattered or else we wouldn’t be 1 for 15 in the post-season w/ Cox. Imagine if your QB went 1-15 passing or your SG was 1 for 15 shooting. You would say they had an awful game, right? Now, Cox has done nothing to improve the Braves. All the playoff runs were due to the teams talent, not him. He NEVER outmanages anyone. Look at last year, we had no talent and we sucked. This year, the talent is good enough to make the playoffs, it’s just too bad we have an IDIOT for a manager. GEESH, hire a new manager, change uniforms, do something.

At least the discussion of individual awards started later this year than last year’s start of the “Will Chipper Win the Batting Title?” diatribes. I guess that could be considered progress. Maybe next year we will wait until September before we consider consolation prizes for the players.

ummm Alabama has won 21 SEC Chamionships

Since some here are so ready to “quit fooling themselves” and call the season a wash, I thought I’d bring up this little tidbit I saw by Ken Rosenthal.
“Yes, the Rays likely will listen to offers for Crawford this winter if preliminary contract talks yield little hope. But frankly, they would be acting more out of due diligence than an actual desire to make a deal.”
He kind of gets to the point that it’s very unlikely the Rays will trade Crawford in the offseason, simply because they feel like they have a shot to win next year. But I wonder if a package of Javy Vazquez + a prospect might be enticing for a team such as Tampa….since they are trading Scott Kazmir, there will be a hole in their rotation next year. They have a ton of talent in their minor leagues, but not any pitchers that would be able to make a seamless transition to the starting rotation (except maybe Wade Davis). And the salaries work out almost exactly even. It’s complete speculation on my part, but it would be interesting to see if Tampa would consider a Vazquez/Crawford swap in the offseason, giving Atlanta a legit leadoff hitter for the first time since Furcal left (I like McLouth, but he’s best suited driving in runs, in my opinion).

I’m afraid Crawford is the wrong fit for the Braves (at least, as the crystal ball for the offseason looks currently). It won’t much matter who hits 1 if the team doesn’t find somebody to hit 4, and Crawford most assuredly isn’t the latter.

Dave, Delta managed to cancel MY flight to a Louisiana airport, but got my bags there, all the while re-routing ME to another airport 90 minutes away from my luggage, and a day later. When I finally got to it, it was soaking wet – contents included. Buy two of those smaller carry-on sized roll-bags and save the checked baggage fee AND keep your bags with you.

I’m a big fan of Garrett Jones also. Would you trade JJ straight up for him? We have to start dealing with Boras after next year with JJ. It wouldn’t solve our money problems with Starting Pitching but there’s your corner outfielder for the next 5 years at least.

I do think Crawford would help us, as he’d be a big upgrade over GA on both sides of the ball, but like you, I think a cleanup hitter could make us a threat to go deep into the playoffs.

Jeff Francoeur’s 2005 stats (4 years ago, at age 21):
257 AB, 41 runs, 20 2b, 14 HR, 45 RBI, .300 avg.

I don’t think JJ is untouchable by any means, but it would take a lot more than Jones to touch him.
