“Gonzo got lucky with that pitch over the middle of the plate to Howard”

Don’t know if its lucky, maybe he got his timing off or that pitch did look more inside than the others that he hit for homers. Whatever the reason, with no one on base i’ll gladly take the double. Gonzo was very successful in his attempt to not give up a Ryan Howard homer.

Either way, what you propose is not revenue-neutral so where you going to get the money from?

That was the caveat of my post…not gonna take the time to do that tonight. In the future, I might. Remind me later sometime.

Now if you could get Qualls, Konerko, and a leadoff guy then I’d be happy.

Ok, I should know who you are with that Qualls comment, but I don’t. Anyway, that would not be revenue-neutral either if you keep Soriano/Gonzo, and if it’s Soriano or Qualls I want Raffy. And I don’t think a leadoff guy is gonna help this team appreciably. We need HR pop. We need a big-time cleanup hitter (no knock on Mac). That will get us much farther than a speed threat.

I don’t trade KK and Vazquez. Leaves us no pitching depth whatsoever, unless we want to rush Minor.

Steve, yeah, I thought the Quall’s comment would give me away..lol! But again, until you put the bait out you’ll never know what possibilities exist. I don’t want to foreclose on much as there are way too many variables involved with not only our team, but other teams as well. I could see 9other teams looking to deal this offseaon. For example, what will the Brewers do? I’ve already mentioned the Red Sox, and the White Sox are never a static team. What will the Tigers do? Who will be Free agents, who will resign, there are so many variables unknown at this time that it’s tough to say that this or that isn’t going to happen, or that there will be no deal available to the Braves.

I can’t believe a swath of us–myself included–are still coming at this as though the Braves have a chance to make the playoffs. It has been nothing but self delusion for 3 weeks now. Can you imagine if we still had the old two division per league system when there were real pennant races that seperated the men from the boys? We would have accepted that our team is a collection of boys in June. The fans would have stopped going to the games weeks a- oh wait, they did anyway.

“THe 2 pitches Howard hit out weren’t even strikes. WHy keep pitching him away or even at all. He has single handedly won 3 of the last 4 games. Whatever “book” we have on him needs to be thrown away.”

To be fair he only won them because our offense has failed to showup these last two series against the phils. Say what you want about Howard hurting us, their lineup in general can put up some runs. Scoring 1,2, or 3 runs against this team just usually isn’t going to do it. Even with his heroics the phillies only scored 4 runs this game. They aren’t beating us down or something. Offense has just decided to go m.i.a the last few series.

Or it could be that their hitters are just better than ours, just a thought.

The Phils may be cruising to the playoffs but they ain’t exactly the powerhouse they were last year. The back of their bullpen is sketchy and if not for the trade for Lee their rotation would be relying on some duo of Moyer and Pedro.
