Not Chop Chop, eh? Well, you write like him.
What am I stating as a metaphysial certainty?
Were I running the team (thankfully I’m not), I’d probably let Heyward open 2010 with the big club and platoon Church and Diaz in left if I can’t get a big bopper for left. If I can, I keep Heyward in the minors, and platoon Church and Diaz in right, and promote Heyward in June. Jordan Schafer opens in AAA as insurance, and is promoted as needed or if he earns it (with McLouth moved to left)
I re-sign Soriano and let Gonzo walk and hopefully recoup a draft pick. My opening-day bullpen would be: Soriano, Moylan, Medlen, O’Flaherty, Logan, and Acosta/Valdez. Craig Kimbrel opens in AAA and is promoted in June barring setbacks and such.
I offer LaRoche a two-year deal. He won’t take it, so my plan B would be to try to swing a deal for Konerko. Plan C is to play Prado at 1st and Kelly at 2nd and hope like hell Freeman is ready by June.
This is using my limited amount of info about the Braves’ payroll situation and the availabily of players via trade, as well as my scouts’ opinions of several key players (Freeman being one of them). If I had that information, my plan would likely be different (and I suppose if I was to give a complete answer I’d go over to Cots and do a payroll breakdown as well but I’m not gonna do that tonight).
With that, I feel like I’ve addressed holes at 1B and LF/RF adequately enough to be a playoff-caliber team. If I can get a big bat for LF, the team is a threat to go deep into the playoffs. If I do that and Heyward is a beast, we’re really good. Oh yeah, I trade KK.

Cox should pinch run for Anderson
LaCucaRoche with the bases loaded, I like our chances
Clutch time. Let’s go LaRoche.
OK Adam….. we haven’t had a granny yet, but we’ll settle for a single.
Yeah, see what happens if you don’t swing at everything?
Come on, Adam!
Roche goes yard here
i knew a doobie once, but it wasn’t a rich dubee
Same pitch @$$hole!
No More Bobby 2.
Jeffrey D. KMA. Go pick your nose with your good friend Bobby.
August 28th, 200911:04 pm
Sad when your number 3 hitter and cleanup hitter (Chipper & McCann) are the biggest problem in the push for the playoffs.
Ill take a bloop single to left, myself.
should be 3-0
I know this game is big for our playoff chances but for someone reason with the way the phillies bullpen has been they probably feel more pressure because they seem to at least be a sure lock for the playoffs and expect to do big things. That said, Come on LaRoche.
Bobby Cox ………you forgot to add Julio Franco and Ruben Gotay to your dream bench.
Boy, I went all PL there…apologies. And can we please do a civil discussion on that?
No he didn’t. STFU Philly fans.
Yeah. McCann’s been a huge problem with all those home runs and RBI’s he’s been racking up lately.
We have conflicting reports on Norton’s status. I’m hoping Scott Boras doesn’t represent Norty. We need him, even Cox likes him. If we pay Lowe 15MM, we should sign Norton at all cost.
This team just can’t get the clutch hits late in games
August 28th, 200911:05 pm
WTF? Take the pitch!
Screw it. I want to bang my head against the wall!
got to take their in my opinion
Eh. Almost. For a second there, I thought we had something.
bases loaded just isn’t this teams forte
I mean SHOOT!
Hit it good, to bad he didn’t pull it. Oh well
BALLGAME. We’ll make Brad Lidge look like Mariano Rivera tonight. Bank on it.
At least he made the pitcher work and swung at a strike, unlike CHIPPER.
We’ve got this rally killing down to a science
As Skip would say..the bases are loaded, wish I was too
Oh, and by “Paul Konerko,” I mean any breathing 1B that’s decent and available for a reasonable price.
August 28th, 200911:06 pm
Everything I love SUCKS, Everything!
Bases loaded curse continues.
Seriously, what is our stat when bases loaded?
Diaz in the 9th?
Is there a worse team in baseball scoring runs when the bases are loaded?
Worst I’ve ever seen this team with the bags juiced.
I hate victorino. hold em here and we still have a shot with lidge even though the bottom of the lineup is due in the 9th. thank god bobby cant bring icostya in to pitch. If I see anybody but Gonzo here my head may explode.
Only the Braves can manage to leadoff an inning with a double, bat 8 guys in the innning, and yet only score 1 run….
August 28th, 200911:07 pm
Welcome to my world.
You don’t take a 3-1 fastball that gets a lot of the plate. He’s a major league hitter and he put a very good swing on it.
Just missed it. It happens. If he squares it up, which he almost did, it’s 6-4.
the Braves are simply the BEST team in the majors… no question about it!
Compare Ibanzez’s quotes with what Chipper said the other day
keep them at 4 runs … Mike
*they may have “bounced’ back but they had a ton of help tonight
Gonzy! My hero.
No More Bobby 2
First of all, come up with an original name. I mean, you had to add a 2 to an already existing name.
Second, did I say that Bobby was a mastermind and deserved to be manager of the decade? No, I just asked for you to explain what Bobby has done to cost us the game so far. Decide to pitch to Howard with Utley already on first? Yeah okay.
August 28th, 200911:08 pm
My head is safe from explosion for one more day.

Anyone else wish they were Cardinals fans?
No. F*** the Cardinals. I hate the Cardinals.
One of the greatest and most underrated moments in Braves history was coming back from 3-1 and beating their @$$es in the NLCS.
They thought it was over. They were already celebrating and we shut them up.
I hold on to that stuff. You better believe it.
Add Corky Miller and we’re set on the dream team.
August 28th, 200911:09 pm
Somebody tell me who Steve is talking to that he thinks is Chop Chop? I’m not following?
This means we take the next two…….right?
Gonzo might hit Howard. He seems like the kind of guy that’ll throw at him — or he might just accidentlly hit him. Who knows?
RHR – in your 10:57 you seem to be expecting intelligence from many of our brethren – clearly not gonna happen. But I am happy you’re here.
Tell him Mitchell!
Where the F was that!
RHR–he won’t tell me who he is…
You would think that giving up only 4 runs to the Phillies would be a good thing… their pitching was supposed to be available to be had….
August 28th, 200911:10 pm
I mean, I’m no Bobby fan by any means. But some of the stuff people blame him for are just mind-blowing
Get ready to duck, you big SOB.
chilidog Yeah. McCann’s been a huge problem with all those home runs and RBI’s he’s been racking up lately.
I know, right? Leads the team in RBI, what a bum…
Too bad he couldn’t extend the goodness a little longer, though. My gosh…thought he could hit the Fillies.
Perfect time to throw a 96 mph heater directly at Howard’s big bell pepper nose.
Welcome to my world
I believe that was our shot there…
Who is on the limb for this loss?? Medlin?
Come on Gonzo. Strike him out like you always do.
Gonzo if you pitch to him I will drive to Philly tonight and kill you myself.
August 28th, 200911:11 pm
Not to get carried away but Norton is like Infante, he can play almost any position.
Unless you get the next out and he doesn’t score….
“At least he made the pitcher work and swung at a strike, unlike CHIPPER”
It was a good pitch to swing at for Adam, just didn’t hit it as well as I thought when it came off the bat. Chipper’s at bat this inning was bad. I know the guy is struggling but I still expect batter at bats even if they are not yielding the results he’s use to. Agree with what Joe Simpson said about that at bat. His last at bat against Moyer was pretty good just didn’t get anything to show for it.
Hey at least its no homer, thats a victory for us.
Start your car RHR – it’s a long drive to Philly.
WTF does wabing a blackberry mean?
Guess we’ll see you around Sunday.
August 28th, 200911:12 pm
Chipper is quietly turning into a cancer to the team. It’s not like it’s happening all at once, just over the course of time he’s digging his team into the ground…and laughing with Rollins about a fake injury in the process. I don’t want to read another Jones qoute, “we’ve got to start hitting with runners on”.
Joe S., yeah, but Howard still has a bale pepper nose, so….
Gonzo got lucky with that pitch over the middle of the plate to Howard
That was mean. I quite like bell peppers but Howard can suck it.
No my worst fears came true, Hanson gets a cheap loss and hurts his ROY chances.
Hanson’s in line for the loss
Umm NO! He plays first and left and he sucks at both….
Phillies = Pit bull
Braves = Rabbit
This is BMac first official 0 fer at CBP this year. His game-by-game log says he was 0 fer on April 7, but we all know that was really an RBI single…
Loaf in Left Field waving my Blackberry
it means i spelled it wrong cuz i had to catch that ric flair
August 28th, 200911:13 pm
But unlike Infante, Norton can’t play hitter
bell pepper nose? LMAO
I’ll never eat another bell pepper again.
That five game stretch from Game 5 of the NLCS through Game 2 of the WS was simply amazing offense.
But then . . .
Sorry To Say But...
Steve sounds reasonable, but I don’t see the improvement in the offense and I sure don’t see a deeper better pen. Either way, what you propose is not revenue-neutral so where you going to get the money from? Trading Javy is going to be enough. If I could only hold on to one between Gonzo/Soriano, it will be the guy who will take the least money. But I would prefer having a lefty given the lineups in the East. I would also like to add Qualls to the pen. Now if you could get Qualls, Konerko, and a leadoff guy then I’d be happy. I don’t think you have to trade Lowe and Chipper to do that, but one of them, plus maybe KK has to go to have enough salary to get all that done.
Jeffrey d 2.
You are right. He has not done a whole lot to cost us THIS game. However, continually using Norton EVERY game especially in clutch situations deserves major criticism. Add this to other idiotic managerial decisions like continually using Corky Miller, Woody Woodward, Chris Reitsma, Jeff Bennett, Blaine Boyer, and Manny Acosta to name just a few.
Why oh why does McCann keep setting up on the outside against Howard?
Has he not been paying attention? Has McDowell not seen what has happened to all of those pitches that let Howard extend his arms?
Just one time. Pitch him inside. Just once. And see what happens. Could the result be any worse?
Strike this mother “guy” out!
I told yall Hanson is in line for the loss
I can’t think of a more irrelevant debate than one over Infante and Norton.
August 28th, 200911:14 pm
so Kelly?, Infante, and Diaz will be looking to either tie the game or take the lead in the 9th
way to shut the door Gonzo
