let’s see…well, Tom’s been away all summer so it’s currently at…a pentagon (i think )
(I’m sure my boy VJ will have something to say here in a minute )
Yeah, I did. And I was embarrassed when he answered it because I accidentally put my email address rather than my location in the location box. I did it without thinking, repeating a habit from this ole blog. Hopefully I won’t get signed up for too much random sh!t.
This should be interesting? Braves lose two to lowly Padres, end of world as we know it is near! Braves score 6 runs in 3 innings, blog is quiet? For now…..
After watching Gwynn lay out for that catch, I am even more convinced that the Braves need to do the following:
1.Keep the pitching staff in place as much as possible. Fill any voids that may be created with departures. Do not exercise the $12 million on Hudson for one year with the questionable arm. Use the money elsewhere. Be smart and not sentimental.
2.Get a speedy centerfielder(remember Nixon,Lofton,Grissom,Garr, etc.) who can patrol the outfield gaps and put him in the lead off spot to steal bases with reckless abandon. Move McLouth to left and put him in the third spot in the batting order permanently. Put Heyward in right field and let him play and learn like all young players must do.
3. Find a young third baseman with some pop for an understudy for Chipper. Chipper cannot play everyday at his age.
4. Sign LaRoache for 2010 and make way for Freeman in 2011 if not sooner.
5. Put Prado at second permanently and hit him in the second spot
6. Fix McCann’s eye sight. He is misplaying too many balls behind the plate. Something is not right.
7.Keep Diaz,Infante,Conrad, Church, Anderson(maybe) in the utility roles and pinch hitting. Say bye bye to Norton.
8. Sign a super star if possible to help with the attendance. The team is very lacking in star appeal.
9.Get more spending capital from Liberty Mutual if possible
I’d say Prado is part of the core too, just because he’s it as far as our middle infield depth goes. I agree that I’d trade McLouth for the right package, but he’s a good player, and probably part of our core next year.
Wayne,
Why? The Georgia Tech spam filter is rather robust and my account goes through GMail as well, which also has a very good spam filter. I’ll probably be alright. It’s not like hundreds of thousands of people are checking a Keith Law chat to see who they can sign up for spam.
Maybe Crawford is a good idea for the Braves to look into this winter. Everybody knows he’s a great leadoff hitter and a very good OF. Crawford/McLouth/Heyward is a very good OF. Resign LaRoche and hope he can have more 1st half power this time. Still love Vazquez back.
I’m kind of surprised that Hudson is going to get the start Monday, but I understand the rationale behind it. Gotta find out a little bit about where he is with his comeback. 12 million is a pretty penny to spend on a 34 year old coming off of Tommy John. I’ll say it again, trading Kawakami this winter gives this team the best chance to win in 2010. I won’t be heated if they deal Vazquez, because if they get blown away with a huge prospect package(or at least bigger than you’d expect for one year of Javy) or a proven bat, then it’ll be hard not to do it.

Players to build around:
C – McCann
3B – Jones
SS – Escobar
RF – Heyward
SP – Hanson
SP – Jurrjens
Players contracts who automatically make them apart of that core:
SP – Lowe
Players who are kind of close to that core, but not “untouchable”(including minor leaguers that are close):
CF – McLouth
CF – Schafer
2B – Prado
1B – Freeman
Players that can be used as trade pieces this winter:
SP – Vasquez
SP – Kawakami)
SP – Hudson(his option can be declined and his money can be used to sign a player(s)
2B – Johnson
Players who should be offered arbitration so that we can recoup draft picks to fortify a baron farm system that lacks impact positon players:
RP – Soriano
RP – Gonzalez
1B – Laroche
Minor leaguers to keep an eye on as trade chips or potential future Braves:
P – Hoover
P – Teheran
P – R. Delgado
P – Spruill
P – DeVall
P – Minor
P – Kimbrel
P – D. Delgado
LF – Milligan
LF – Johnson
