Also Ryan Church was in the original lineup but his back was a little sore. He said it was just sore, and not having spasms, so he expects to get back in there soon, tomorrow in Philly included.
Carroll, thanks,
great news on Huddy ,6 man (rest)rotation, BC up Acosta down , now if we could just get 2 more important things, a REAL bench hitter, and someone with some speed in LF . Good steps ,maybe too late.
People who spend so much time bashing KK need to look at his stats…He has made NINE STARTS where he has given up 3 runs or less only to get a loss or a no-decision.
This is not counting his June 24th start, in which he was knocked out in the third after being hit by a line-drive. It is also not counting these 3 starts: April 21, 4 R, 2 ER–May 27, 4 R, 3 ER–June 2, 4 R, 3 ER, where the team made errors that led to some of those runs. He got the loss in the first two and a no-decision in the last one.
He’s given up 6 runs or more only TWICE. His main thing is that he needs to go deeper into games. But this being his first year playing in the US, he hasn’t been that bad.
While I think that the Braves are done, I have to applaud them for this season. This team does not have the talent of Philadelphia or Florida, but they have competed. Frank Wren has done a nice job of getting this team competitive this season. They were woefully inadequate against the Phillies, Marlins and anyone else they played last season. I hope they don’t fall into “playing out the strand”. I hope they finish strong, spoil someone’s season and build toward next season. Although Garret Anderson hit better the later the season, Matt Diaz got hotter than a firecracker and Ryan Church did an admirable job filling in wherever he has been asked, there are still glaring weaknesses in the everyday lineup. While the forementioned Diaz did get hot, he just is not an everyday player. Ryan Church is a good fourth or fifth outfielder. Garret Anderson just does not have the pop in his bat to start every day. In essence, the Braves need two outfielders with some pop and/or speed. Is Martin Prado going to be what he has been since entering the starting lineup once again next season? Is this the real Chipper Jones at this point? Will Yunel Escobar progress into a more consistent power threat? Will the Braves bring back Adam LaRoche? And one final thought. The Braves are rally missing character and leaders on this team. Is Chipper Jones really a leader? I don’t see how he is. Remember the days when you had players like Dave Justice, Sid Bream, Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz. I don’t mention them because they were great players, they were great leaders. This team needs a few.
The Braves are a mess and it starts with chipper jones.most of the players mull around like they could care less. there is no life left in this bunch.mighty casey has struck out.
“Don’t look now but Francoeur (61) has more RBIs than Chipper (55). …”
Well, Frenchy has gotten away from TP, and Chipper is just waiting on hunting season
Frenchy also has been hitting behind David Wright, who gets walked so Frenchy can be pitched to. Meanwhile Chipper, even in the midst of his slump, gets walked so all-star McCann can be pitched to. McCann has more RBIs than Frenchy.
ALLRIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope it clears I will enjoy tonite with word of these changes. Hope Blobbie give Lawry Wain a sit to start. Mebbe P/H. What does it take to get shut of Norton?!?
wjonesMeanwhile Chipper, even in the midst of his slump, gets walked so all-star McCann can be pitched to.
Yeah…that’s rather degrading. Shows how little managers around the league seem to know about him ([cough cough] Hurdle! [cough cough] Manuel! [cough cough]…) I mean, yeah, Chipper’s a dang good hitter if there ever was one, but…
Hey, I went on a stat-finding mission the other day to find out what BMac’s numbers are when Chipper is (officially) intentionally walked in front of him. If my findings are accurate, here’s what he has done:
3-5 (.600) with 1 2B, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 1 BB (intentional), 1 SO, and 1 SF.
That lineup sucks! The players don’t but batting order does. Not sure why everyone on here knows Roach should bat cleanup but Bobby. Or at least go with what worked so well against the Dodgers.
Braves have had a good season, so far. They’re on track to win 85 or so games. Better than the 72 they won last season. Jurrjens and Hanson are emerging as studs. McLouth and Prado (if he gets over his headaches) really improved the lineup. So did LaRoche, who should be resigned.
All in all, Soriano, Gonzo and Moylan have pitched well. Medlen is going to get better.
Vazquez has performed beyond expectation. Lowe has pretty much met expectations. Chipper may actually play 140 + games.
Face reality, The braves have pitching that is a little above average. What they lack is Power in the lineup and they are at least two players shy of that task. The leading power hitter has 17 home runs. The Phillies have 4 players with 25+ round trippers. Maybe this time next year they will be in contention but as for this season, IT’S OVER!
The season was lost in June. A great July and August can get us over .500 but we’ll end up short of the playoffs by just the handful of games we let get away through too many LOB or walkoff losses thanks to those 3 or so weeks in June
Face reality, The braves have pitching that is a little above average.
This brings us to fundamental problem #1 of the blog–the inability to properly establish what exactly “league average” is, and then use that standard to evaluate our performance as above or below that.
Seriously dude? A little above average? Our pitching is the best in the league.
Steve – you’re forgetting that we had a bad pitching game yesterday, so that’s pretty much the standard when evaluating the entire season.
But on the plus side, while our staff is on pace to allow 15 runs per game for the rest of the season, McCann’s on pace for a .600 average and is good for a homer a game. And he should drive in about 120 the rest of the way.
Braves pitching leads the majors in FIP, 4th in ERA, 1st in HR/9, 6th in K/9, 8th in BB/9 (thank you, Jeff Bennett), 5th in WHIP, 5th in BA against, all with very average BABIP and LOB%. Our staff is pretty doggone good.
Shamus Thacker… I think ol Lowe’s numbers are about on par for his career averages. We didn’t think that the Braves were signing another Santana last winter, did we?
Next year, if Lowe’s around, I think he’s the #4 starter behind Jurrjens, Hanson and Vazquez.
That clears up a lot for me! Actually, there are a few who are pretty funny, and some others who seem to be OK. But then again, there are a few that I wouldn’t invite over for the pool party.
Now I know I could care less about the Braves season.. I am excited about the fact that Tim Hudson will start next Monday for the Braves, not because we are in playoff contention, but to see if he has anything left. I already know we are done as far as the playoffs go, the Braves are not a good enough team to deal with what it will take to make it.
Now we will see if the Braves will exercise Hudson’s contract next year and allow Vazquez to leave in FA, or try to bring Javy back and allow Hudson to walk. I personally wish we could keep Hudson and Vazquez and let Lowe or Kawakami go, but that will cost to much. Wishful thinking I know, but hopefully we will have a new manager and pitching coach next year to hopefully bring this team and pitching staff back to where it once was..
I think ol Lowe’s numbers are about on par for his career averages.
More or less. His FIP is right on par with his previous three seasons, and he’s been victimized by a very high BABIP. His K rate concerns me a bit, but he still gets a lot of grounders and doesn’t walk many, so he should be a sub-4 ERA pitcher moving forward.
Apparently last night’s loss really upset my mom. She loved getting on here every night with you guys (i dont know why i think you are all weirdos), but now she says she just cant take it anymore. Would some of you be kind enough to offer my mom some encouragement so maybe she will get back on here this evening? I would appreciate it. I have to go now, my shift at rite-aid starts at 6:30.
Yes, the way things worked out, the BRAVES are between a rock and a hard place where LOWE and VASQUEZ are concerned. But they may up the ante and keep both next year and HUDSON in a six man rotation. Not likely, but it could happen. I’m concerned about higher pay for the closers in the pen however.
I realize that most of you on this post are smarter than me; however, please tell me why/how can Mr. .128 Norton and Mr. “I’ll cost you” Acosta still be on our roster? Do we not have anyone who is just as bad/good, but will improve with experience? I have been very patient with Bobby, but he is a f^%$ing senile idiot! Am I the only one (and I’m not a baseball expert…maybe nuclear physics) who thinks that Cox is the problem? All of you know that to solve a problem, you go after the root cause, not the symptom. Retire Bobby with honors and hire a real manager, and watch the Braves win, BIG. There is a lot of talent on this team. My buddy “The Truth” is correct when he said that Homer Simpson would have won at least four WS with the talent Bobby had. Cox= Omar Minaya. Anyway, just my opinion…peace.
As far as power goes, aren’t we second in homers since the all-star break? Outside of Norton and Infante, everyone is some kind of power threat at the plate. Well, Goricki based on minors numbers. The other ten?
Prado and Church are capable of hitting 10-15 homers with a full season.
Escobar, Diaz, Anderson, and the good Kelly all capable of 15-20 per year.
Project Ross numbers over a full season and he would be capable of 25-30.
McCann and Chipper easily capable of 20-25 per year.
LaRoche capable of 30-35.
That’s us. No 40 homer guys, just a good top-to-bottom lineup. And I didn’t even count McClouth, who’s another 20-25 guy. We need to be healthy, and maybe one upgrade or so in the lineup, either Heyward or a vet bopper placeholder.
We are not fast, but some of that is conservative coaching, I am convinced. Even medium-to-slow players can make things happen on the bases.
My kids pulled that one a few years ago. Now, I tell them that anything found in the pool, will be served for breakfast the next morning. Haven’t had any more candy bars since then.
Maxwell Smart: My kids pulled that one a few years ago. Now, I tell them that anything found in the pool, will be served for breakfast the next morning. Haven’t had any more candy bars since then.”"

He’s walked 50 batters this year. 5 more than he did last year. In 52 fewer innings. His K’s are down, his LD% is up, his GB/FB is down, his XBH% is up, and his IF/FB is down. The only thing he’s been as good at as he was last year at is limiting home runs. I’m very concerned.

Shamus Thacker… I think ol Lowe’s numbers are about on par for his career averages. We didn’t think that the Braves were signing another Santana last winter, did we?
Next year, if Lowe’s around, I think he’s the #4 starter behind Jurrjens, Hanson and Vazquez.

thank you jeffrey d and Jboog1285.

Evidence, please. Define “good” and “great” and then show me why the Braves fall into the former category.

doesn’t walk many
He’s walked 50 batters this year. 5 more than he did last year. In 52 fewer innings. His K’s are down, his LD% is up, his GB/FB is down, his XBH% is up, and his IF/FB is down. The only thing he’s been as good at as he was last year at is limiting home runs. I’m very concerned.
