NS Steve,
Still hoping the reporters(?) at the local fishwrapper will get off their love affair with him. He’s like ancient history. BTW,Halifax is a great place. But,that bridge to Dartmouth scares the bejeebers outta me!
DOB,
Why you gotta be like that? Don’t be hating on us “one carry-on” guys. Just cuz a particular “one-carry on” guy is looking down on how you travel doesn’t mean we all do. To each his own.
atlbravesfan: I’m only talking about the folks who try to stuff bags that aren’t meant for overhead into the overhead, and end up taking two or three passengers’ room up there, and especially those who put their bag in overhead bins at front of plane on the way to their seats at back of plate (you know who you are).
All for the benefit of saving 10 minutes at baggage claim, and the once-out-of-100-flights misplaced bags (OK, maybe once out of 50 with Delta, but still….)
I’m only talking about the folks who try to stuff bags that aren’t meant for overhead into the overhead, and end up taking two or three passengers’ room up there, and especially those who put their bag in overhead bins at front of plane on the way to their seats at back of plate
Those folks are the reason airlines won’t let the rest of us on the plane armed. Has nothing to do with terrorists.
Need some posts here, gotta get some props going. I don’t like to miss an opportunity to belittle and ridicule a certain poster who is probably too obtuse to realize he’s being belittled and ridiculed by the running joke, LOL. So make it happen, be props-worthy, people!
By the way, why do you really not have school today? I mean we have flash flood warnings here in ATL but you don’t see me skipping work.
About 2 minutes after the first bell rang, a transformer burst into flames and the school was all smoked up…. Please don’t give me that story, when I lived in GA the whole town would freak out over an inch of snow. Here? It takes about 4 to 5 feet to cancel school…

Trust me, I know. I get hell from my cousins in Chicago about it every year. I am jealous though – I’d like to see some real snow down here. Our summers are worse though! Betcha can’t take our humidity.
Snow? Flash floods? The only times school out here was cancelled was due to riots and earthquakes…neither of which happen on a regular basis (dispite what y’all may read in the papers )

I was in Chicago earlier this month and it was 75-80 the whole week. I think the hottest it got was around 85. That’s nothing. The wind made creepy noises at night though.
DOB: I see. These days it also saves a buck or two, but I agree there is a point at which one really should think about the comfort of those around them.
Yeah Delta’s pretty bad. It’s about a 1/10 ratio for me (I’ve only flown about 10 times with checked baggage). They lost my bag on the way to the middle of nowhere (Thief River Falls) Minnesota a few years back. Fortunately there was a Wal-Mart, because I didn’t even have clean underwear in my carry-on. I’ve travelled with only a carry-on ever since. But I may have to come up with a new strategy for our weeklong trip to Hawaii.

One of the benefits of retiring is no longer having to fly all the time for work. My fly time was 1977 to 1999, so it was no where near as bad as the current situation. I think everything changed dramatically on September 11, 2001. I always packed heavily, with books for reading and computer (certainly larger than today’s versions), two pairs of running shoes for alternating on runs and two pairs of dress shoes, and all the other suits and accouterments. When you went to places like Fairbanks or Anaconda or even Ohio for example, if it was winter, you had lots of extra stuff. Would you believe I never had lost luggage. Knock on wood for future exotic dive trips or trips to distant locales. The one big disaster was 1973 returning to Georgia from Boston and getting married, Delta lost the clothes in which I got married and the wedding presents. While they were recovered, they were stolen within the next few weeks from our apartment in Little Five Points during the day while I slept, inasmuch as I was working graveyard at the time. Certainly an omen for that marriage.
No on the wild fires- in fact another one broke out last night and is burning almost uncontained at the moment (for those counting that makes 4 in the last 3 days…)
And to make matters even worse we are having record high tempatures this week (95 downtown LA, 110 in Palm Springs- and supposed to reach 117 this weekend…and it’s 90 by the beach, where it rarely gets above 75)
DOB- I’m with you on the whole checked bags thing. Even for over nights I check my bag and just carry my briefcase on. It’s a hell of a lot more comfortable traveling through airports not dragging that crap around. Plus you don’t have to stuff anything under the seats in from of you.
More than once I’ve had people say ” I see you only brought one bag on, would you mind if I put one of mine under the seat in front of you?” Then they give me a sneer when I say no I checked my bag so I would have more leg room. I understand that as of late with the airlines charging and all some people have to carry it on but this has been going on long before that practice started.

I think it’s time to bring to market the Rally McTurtle. Maybe a big floating helium turtle with a bat in one hand and a sandwich in the other – Much better than McCann’s Cans…or the rally monkey for that matter. Then when Mac goes to the plate and we need a run in the late innings, the PA person could play the sound of an angry turtle growling…or maybe eating a sandwich.

Posnanski: never heard of the dude ’til this blog, and find myself reading him regularly, now. Nugget in his ‘Zack’ blog: average NL pinchhitter OBP is .315. Norton’s is .333; I’ll conveniently neglect to mention avg and obp.

Brandon- You sure that nap was only 3 hours and not 3 days? The playoff ship basically left port while you were napping.

RHR, I know Random can be an ass (his word), his comment about the resident females is still jerkish-nutbag, and that search-thing he does is scary, but good of ‘im to answer you, ’specially with Wordpress in reject-mode.
Random, props to you.
Anders, do you see any correlation in the Santana trade with the Soriano extension?
Posnanski: never heard of the dude ’til this blog, and find myself reading him regularly, now. Nugget in his ‘Zack’ blog: average NL pinchhitter OBP is .315. Norton’s is .333; I’ll conveniently neglect to mention avg and obp.

cabravesfan, try a summer full of 105-degree (more or less) days! And dry, as it hardly rains down here in South Texas….

Sweet! So how much is a royalty? 100 bucks?
but let’s hope the rest of the season is not one of lost causes.
Yeah, really…but I do think it’s time I sent up a little petition for BMac’s defense…lotta bandits in Filly…
Soph But, I’ll take wins over that any day of the week.
Me, too.
Haha! And Jon Miller does so love his Fillies. Still remember his comment after Opening Night: “And the Fillies lose their first game of the season…”
Never mind that the Braves won, Jon.
cabravesfan–
Well, that’s good, at least. Definitely scary, though…fires scare the heck out of me…
