I realize the last 2 days have been pitiful. BUT it is not time to lose all hope. Anything can still happen. We still have plenty of head to head games with the Marlins. First thing we can control is beating them for 2nd in the division. Then if we can over take the Giants, which is a strong possibility, we would be fighting whoever loses out between the Dodgers and Rockies for the wild card.
Whose to say LA or Colorado won’t go on a cold streak? LA has already had some drop off. And you think the Braves have a hard time scoring runs some nights, the Giants are much worse offensively. Also, the Giants, Dodgers, and Rockies are going to spend a lot of time beating up on each other over the next few weeks. And we have a lot of games in September against the Mets (who now don’t even have Santana) and the Nats.
Bottom line, the last 2 days have been really bad. But don’t knee jerk too much. There’s still time. I’m not saying it’s going to happen. But I think the Braves will have 88-90 wins at the end of the year at least and we’ll see if that’s good enough or not.
And if we miss the playoffs, at least we don’t suck this year, we’re gaining momentum, going to have a good winning season, and getting back on the right track.
GO DODGERS!!!! only 4.5 out if they hold and we can get lucky tonight. What you all think about giving Chip a day off? Please give him one. He needs one bad.
Well, I think we should all remember that you can’t just pick up a crate of urgency at the local Wal-Mart. Nossir. They closed out that section of the store when they started selling food.

We no longer control our own destiny. Now it will be necessary for the ROCKIES or DODGERS or both to go into a ten game swoon for LOS BRAVOS to become a contenda’ once again. “You was my brudda’ CHARLEY, you shudda’ looked out for me a little bit. ….I coulda’ had class. Has ANYONE else made mention of our Hall of Fame manager & his managing style & strategy of looking for a lucky spot to stand rather than actually managing the team. WHAT A FOOL! Rather than yanking ineffective pitchers & or replacing guys like Manny I’llCostya from the roster (when he is taking up a spot because he is ONLY used in runaway games – hey, he may get a lot more pitching time in the days ahead) the camera catches him in search of appeasing his superstitions. O’Flaherty says they lost their focus (which I thinks really ticked Chipper off) but seems to me Cox has lost his focus.
Hadn’t even seen the Gillispie story, although someone mentioned it on the previous blog. I was more interested in the Pitino meltdown and Calipari getting caught cheating … again.
The only chance for the Braves is to go 26-10 for the remainder of season. Need to go a 10 game winning steak (i know its hopeless) but you never know. Thank Goodness CFB & NFL are about to start!!!!!
You rarely see a team go so long without a cold streak. So hopefully they are due for one. Unfortunately the braves have faced two incredibly hot teams here in the second half of the season (Rockies and Phillies) and there has just been no room for error. The good thing is that if the braves don’t make it to the postseason, you don’t get the feeling they would have been able to beat these two teams anyway. Oh well.
Wayne in Utah……..

CrimeDog–they just don’t give away senses(?) of urgency. You’ve gotta earn them. With heart. And grit. And funny handshakes so everyone knows that team chemistry is abound. But mostly heart.
Annnnnnd I’m done. I refuse to get sucked in like last year. I followed them down this path last year until they were mathematically eliminated. Fool me once, shame on you…..fool me twice, shame on me. There is nothing to make me believe that we’re just going to flip some switch and turn it on to go on a 10 game winning streak. I’m not even sure that would put us within striking distance. Also, does anyone really believe we could make a run if we somehow made the playoffs?? This teams needs to make some serious and tough decisions on what direction it wants to take in the off season.
CrimeDog – the fans will be the only ones in the stadium with a sense of urgency & they better bring it from home cause it ain’t gonna be given out by anyone wearing an official Braves uniform. Well, Cox will have that sense of urgency while looking for his good luck spot to watch the game (rather than manage the team).
I have to leave for a while, but I leave with this question:
Since the Padres are dominating this series, does that mean they have a far superior sense of urgency? And if a team that’s 22.5 games out of first in their division has more urgency than the Braves, does that mean Bud Black is the greatest manager in baseball history?
I see Jason Schmidt for just put on the 60 day DL, possibly ending his career. Great, yet one more sore-armed pitcher who couldn’t get anybody out…oh yeah, except for the 6 scoreless innings he managed to throw against the Braves. But you gotta tip your cap to him, right?
This teams needs to make some serious and tough decisions on what direction it wants to take in the off season.
Well, instead of being all glass-half-empty and saying “I”m done” or whatever, you could start up an engaging conversation about what you think we should do in the offseason.
A day off? Watch how tired he looks sitting on the bench. I really hope he is OK. I can understand him feeling bad about his slump, but why doesn’t he seem excited when his team does well. Remember how hard he laughed when McCann slid in for his triple last year? Where is that Chipper? Seems like he’s MIA. I think he needs about 2 weeks off. Seriously. Doesn’t matter if Bobby thinks he should play just because he can walk or not. Do what is right for the team.
The more of the blog I read the more I know I am a total idiot!
I have been following the Braves for years (since they got here) and always thought that I was supposed to pull for my team all the team, during good seasons and bad, and during winning and losing streaks.
Little did I know that I was supposed to cuss, then p!ss and moan about the team, then scream for everyone to be DFA’ed then STOP watching them if they played bad.
Well not just played bad, but lost a series to a bad team.
Props to all the “new age bloggers” that have taught me the real way to follow my team.
Give me a couple minutes and I too will come up with some FIRE BOBBY or TRADE CHIPPER posts. It might take me a bit of time because I am new at these things….
Don’t look now but Francoeur (61) has more RBIs than Chipper (55). Do we now dump Chipper for a marginal reserve player who will not pay hurt (Church)?
CrimeDog–they just don’t give away senses(?) of urgency. You’ve gotta earn them. With heart. And grit. And funny handshakes so everyone knows that team chemistry is abound. But mostly heart.
Well, now, just wait a minute. It’s been made to sound as if urgency were an innate trait of the players, only needed to be turned on, tapped, ridden to he Glory Land, and so forth. Now you’re telling me the team has to pick up a six-pack of heart and a bag full of grit just to get urgent?!? I mean, jeez, that hardly seems fair. We might need a Dentz-gram (and some props) to get the true skinny here.
Hey, I do remember a couple of cool handshakes, if the team really needs them. I don’t care if I start, I just want to help the team in any way I can, LOL.
BrightsideRemember how hard he laughed when McCann slid in for his triple last year?
Ah! Who could forget that? That was great! (Though I wouldn’t say “slid”…more like “landed” ) I cannot believe the “Official Site” doesn’t have a replay of that…
I think Chipper needs some time off, too. He’s definitely hurting. Just looks awful at the plate…
Yes, I’ve followed this team since the early 70’s….faithfully. I knew this was going to happen in June. The writing was on the wall in May though. But hey, I don’t know anything right?
Semantics, my friend. I calculated my findings on his last month, which I had calculated since July 25th. Since he has returned, he has hit 117. Before he came back, and since July 25th, he has hit .260. So, for the past month, he has hit .241. with 12 RBI’s. Definitely a down month, compared to his first month of starts.
Hey, lets just hope he picks it back up, and even more important, let’s hope the headache thing goes away for good.
Mixxo-
Agreed. There is not one minor leaguer that couldn’t contribute as much and probaly a lot more that Chipper is doing now. And anybody, please don’t take me wrong. I’m saying this because I want Chipper come alive again, and I know he can. I remember back this year before he started into this prolonged slump he was hitting everything thrown across the plate and all of a sudden, Bam. Something happened.
Hell yeah, we had one. My high school was in a bit of turmoil during my senior year. We had a new principal who was not particularly well liked and a college counsellor who replaced someone we all loved and respected and did not live up to her standard. We felt like the school was just waiting for us to leave so they could bring in their new agenda.
In the spirit of rebellion we had our skip day on a Monday knowing that the following Tuesday was a faculty day. Four day weekend baby.
We stuck it to the man, man. In retrospect, I’ve come to realize that we were actually just a bunch of spoiled, whiney bitches.
Don’t look now but Francoeur (61) has more RBIs than Chipper (55). Do we now dump Chipper for a marginal reserve player who will not pay hurt (Church)?
Does Chipper make outs 72 percent of the time he comes to the plate as Francoeur did? Who cares about RBI? You shouldn’t!
For the life of me, I really don’t know why LaRoche has to hit behind GA all the time…
Goes back to piss poor managing by Booby Cox.. Why on earth you are batting one of your best hitters 7th or 8th is beyond me. What is Cox doing, trying to get something for the pitcher to hit? Just another reason why Cox should hang em up after this season, and if he doesn’t do it willingly, then he should have to be humiliated by being fired by the Braves.. Just because he is a Atlanta Braves icon doesn’t mean he should have the right to be here year after year mismanaging a team.. He was a great manager, but he has lost it.. If another team goes 4-5 years without making the playoffs, they usually fire their MANAGER!! Time for Cox to leave IMO..
ncscoots, losing to “lesser” teams is a little more tolerable when you are ahead of teams in the “standings”, rather than chasing them.
The Marlins are in the same boat as the Braves. They are on the cusp of falling too far back with too few games to play, making the chase a bit tougher. If the Phillies, Giants or Rockies (or now the Dodgers) lose a couple of games to a loser team, yet maintain their lead in the division or WC standings, it’s not as tough for their fans to swallow.
Still not saying it’s impossible for the Braves to make a run. But with each loss (especially to teams like the Padres), it becomes less probable that they’l catch anybody and play October baseball.
It is ashame that the Braves did not have the team they currently have coming out of spring training. If we would have had this team as it is currently assembled with LaRoche, McClouth, Hanson, Prado at 2nd, etc. We would be in 1st place. This team has played .600+ baseball since July.
It is ashame that Wren did not have the foresight to see all of the holes in the lineup before it was too late. But at least he tried to plug them. too little, too late.

If I understand correctly, basically youre saying 3 teams have to almost collapse, while at the same time the Braves will snap out of their funk. Also while you correctly point out those 3 teams yuo mention will be beating up on each other, that means one of those teams will be winning as well.
Good luck with that scenario.
If only McLouth were healthy we could have Omar at second and put Martin at third and give Chipper a rest.
Didn’t Norton play left field last year some? Put him out there and let Church play center, Omar and Prado in the infield and save Chipper and GA for the bench.
GNorton is hardly any worse than Chipper at this point.
I can’t remember who brought up Brandon Jones’ name recently but he’s a genius. I completely forgot about that guy. He never really impressed me or made me believe he could be an everyday player but he’s got to be better than Gorecki.
I just don’t get why Norton, Gorecki, Manny and O’Flaherty are on this team.
Matt Diaz is pissing me off too. He gets hot and almost wins my respect and then immediately throws it away. Everybody has their “boy”, Matty is the opposite of my boy. He looks like a retard trying to catch those fly balls at the fence.

Props to all the “new age bloggers” that have taught me the real way to follow my team.
Give me a couple minutes and I too will come up with some FIRE BOBBY or TRADE CHIPPER posts. It might take me a bit of time because I am new at these things….

I think Chipper needs some time off, too. He’s definitely hurting. Just looks awful at the plate…

Senior Skip Day!
But then again so are the Braves.
OOOHHHHHHHHHH!!! That’s right, I said it.

Seems kind of elementary to me.

But at least he tried to plug them. too little, too late.

sportsmandh: “I realize the last 2 days have been pitiful.
Also, the Giants, Dodgers, and Rockies are going to spend a lot of time beating up on each other over the next few weeks.”
If I understand correctly, basically youre saying 3 teams have to almost collapse, while at the same time the Braves will snap out of their funk. Also while you correctly point out those 3 teams yuo mention will be beating up on each other, that means one of those teams will be winning as well.
Good luck with that scenario.

Speaking of Chip Caray –
It’s almost as if TBS doesn’t care or promote its Sunday baseball telecast anymore — is it still around?
Could it be going the route of Frank TV?
Why on earth would TBS get rid of its identity — the Braves?
What a lack of brains — throughout the last 30 years — the first thing anyone thinks of when TBS is mentioned is the Braves.
What a boneheaded move.
