mr baseball……..it doesnt take a rocket scientist to see that the Braves looked lathargic during Tuesday’s lackluster 12 inning game.

Uh, and what do you call the MELTDOWN in the last 4 innings of last night’s game? Play well for 5 innings and then all of a sudden, ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE? I mean the screws came loose from all angles. Starting pitching, relief pitching, defense making all kinds of mental and physical errors……..the offense not getting clutch hits.

We made the Padres look like the 1927 Yankess last night in the last 4 innings of the game. (Paul L)

keep spouting that nonsense. you ain’t ever gonna fool anyone who has spent time with pro baseball, it’s basically hogwash. I think most of the guys on here who spout that garbage and who rant constantly during games are really more football fans than baseball fans. Whole diffferent scene. The thing that so many of you young fantasy geniuses don’t realize is that the thing that you spend so much time bitching about-that the lost to a lseeer team-is what makes baseball the great game that it is. You absolutely never can be sure of what is gonna happen on any given day or any given series. If y’all can’t deal with it, go watch some sport where a good team can win almost every week-how utterly boring! Mr Baseball is right, you ain’t fooling anybody. It’s all internet “savvy”.

Lentz, what you say is true from a certain point of view.

However, at the end of they day having compassion and supporting the human beings behind the jerseys says a lot about one’s character. Going after a guy who’s battled his way back from type 2 Diabetes…not cool.

No Lentz — he’s had diabetes for awhile. It was not detected until the weight loss. It does things to you PRIOR to diagnosis that are not reparable.

Chipper is feeling much better at the plate. Or as he puts it in his own unique way: “You get a nubber your first at-bat, you get some confidence, even though it’s a nubber. But then you go up there, you’ve seen the guy before, you apply what you learned in the first at-bat and you hit a bullet up the middle.”

And the third at-bat where he lined out to Tony Gwynn, who made an Andruw-like catch, to strand three, Jones said he can build on that.
“That at-bat right there is going to go with me to Philly.”

Tho of that catch, he also said: “When he caught that ball, I’m thinking to myself, ‘Man, as much as last year was my year, this is not my year.’”

Bobby Cox on Vazquez:

“Javy was just superb,” Cox said. “He didn’t get hit hard at all. Threw a lot of strikes. Didn’t have a lot of pitches, but it’s good to give him a breather after seven with a lead like that this time of year, especially.”

And gotta love this nugget from Matt Diaz when I asked him about Javy swinging at good bat lately:

“We heard rumors that the guy could hit,” Diaz said of Vazquez and his career .216 batting average. “He did nothing to prove them correct until recently. He would talk to (Jair) Jurrjens about his swing and Jurrjens was like ‘look at the stat sheet.’ So it’s nice to see Javy finally living up to his potential with the bat. He’s been doing it with his arm all year.”

Supes……….dude, I didnt attack Carlyle personally. I got on him for giving up a homer and a walk in the 9th inning. Dude does not deserve a free pass, just because the Braves have a 9 run lead.

Giving up a walk with 2 outs, with the score 9-1 is not cool. Dude walks one guy in Triple A, yet cant throw strikes with 2 outs in a 9-1 game? If he was making his Major League debut, I could possibly understand the jitters.

But come on……….he’s been pitching a long time. He knows better. Just because dude has Diabetes does not mean that he is entitled to a free pass for having a bad inning.

I criticized him for costing me points in my fantasy league. What, is playing fantasy baseball a crime? At least I back my faith up in the Braves by picking their pitching on my fantasy team.

If dude cant throw strikes and get hitters out in a 9-0 game………how in the hell are you going to trust him in a tight ball game?

Javy: “Guys obviously put up a lot of runs in the early innings made it a lot easier. We needed to win this game, losing the first two games to San Diego were pretty frustrating.”

And finally, here’s Chipper, kinda proverbially answering the question that’s been on this blog title all day and had to get annoying after a while. Is this it? No.

“That was as close to a must-win game at the end of August (as you can get),” Chipper Jones said. “We lose this game, this is a series that you look back at the end of the season and say ‘That really killed us.’ After playing a really bad game last night, we played about as good as we can possibly play tonight.”

WARNING: Possible duplicate post:

RHR (August 27th, 2009 12:20 pm): “Tell me how you search the blog for specific posts from people? I want to find something but I don’t want to read thru all these pages to find it.”

I use Google Advanced Search (G.A.S), where you can specify the site or domain within which to search for a word, name or phrase. (In the following examples, “ptth” is substituted for the initial “http” in the IP addresses, so that the blog doesn’t think I’m including multiple links and block me.)

The IP address for this particular page of comments is ptth://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-braves-blog/2009/08/27/is-this-it/comment-page-7/#comments. You should be able to see it in the address pane at the top of the page. You can copy and paste it from there to G.A.S. and edit it there.

Trim the tail off this page’s IP address, and you will get the domain for ALL comment pages for this particular blog posting of CR’s: ptth://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-braves-blog/2009/08/27/is-this-it/. Specify this IP address in G.A.S., and it will search all comments pages for this blog posting.

(Here is the Google results page for a search of all occurrences of “RHR” in this blog’s comment pages.)

You can further trim (and tailor) the IP address to have G.A.S. search all blog postings for a particular month (say, Jun 09 — ptth://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-braves-blog/2009/06/) or year (ptth://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-braves-blog/2009/).

(You may search similarly in previous years, and earlier this year, but the IP address template is different for back then. Remember when the blog changed drastically and painfully during ST this year?)

Hope this helps — lemme know if it don’t.

Baseball is about opportunity. That’s all. If Carlyle doesn’t cut the mustard, so be it. The fact that he gave up a homer and a walk — actually he struck the guy out on the 2-2 pitch and it wasn’t called — could work against him, but compared to what he deals with, who cares!

The A Bomb…………dude, you are missing the point. The fact that Diabetes is a hard thing to overcome is something I am very aware of. However, when it comes to rooting for the Braves to win………I could CARE LESS about someone’s sob story. What matters to me is if they can help us win.

During the Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl teams in the early 90’s, some of my friends gave me crap about Michael Irvin and his issues with drugs. I said, “dude, Irvin can smoke all the crack he wants and bang all the strippers he can get his hands on. All I care about is whether he can catch the ball, score touchdowns and help us win the Super Bowl.”.

Winning is all that matters to me. I am not critical of Carlyle because he has Diabetes. I’m critical of him being on this team because I dont think he can help us win. He gives up too many homers.

Then. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

About the same result. :)

Supes – All I’m saying is, not everyone is looking at it like you are. As soon as you “get that”, you’ll save yourself a lot of trouble on this blog.

Oh he gets it, its what and how he gets off, its what he lives for and he will say anything to get it, it feeds him.

jeffrey d………….Hanson impresses me because of what he has done in the MAJORS.

Impressive Triple A stats ONLY IMPRESS me when they are backed up by IMPRESSIVE MAJOR LEAGUE STATS.

Hanson equals “impressive”. Carlyle equals “triple A material”.

Learn to read a “whole” sentence and comprehend what it says first…….then get back with me.

So now that he’s back, no reason for him not to go back to his old slot as the long innings reliever option alongside Medlen.

I hope for Buddy to get the long relief and Medlen be push to late inning work…

Uhh, thanks Carlyle. Cost me 4 points by giving up that homer. Did you forget to take your insulin shot?

That’s what you said, dude. That’s why people are ripping you a new one. You took a cheap shot at the guy for his disease, not because he’s a journeyman middle reliever/long relief guy who isn’t all that good. You’re as stubborn as Wayne when someone’s got FNC on in a doctor’s office.

SoonerBrave……….we won tonight? really? I guess that we qualified for the play-offs with that win, right?

Tonight’s win against a terrible Padres team is not impressive. It should be the norm. Winning the last game in order to prevent getting swept is not impressive either.

Going into Philly and sweeping them EQUALS impressive.

And Lentz — I’ll say this to you one final time.

He earned his way back with his rehab performance. He gets an opportunity. If you want to judge him based on one performance post-diagnosis you go right ahead. Doesn’t make you look smart, but go right ahead.

If he does this through the rest of the year, fine — cut him. But unless you personally know what the man is dealing with, and you don’t, and what he’s overcome, and you don’t — you are not qualified to make statements regarding this.

Mop up man? So what? If he’s in the top 12 for the ‘pen, great! If not — all right. Still a profile in courage, no matter what ignorance level you want to be at.

DO SOME RESEARCH.

That’s it.
