It would be a stretch to say that people in baseball were predicting a Johan Santana elbow injury even before the Mets traded for him 18 months ago. But it’s safe to say that clubs that looked into Santana’s health in 2007, when it became apparent the Twins could deal him, aren’t shocked, either.

A guitar/double bass duo was performing at my college. Pretty good concert. On the ride over, I was thinking that the Braves would probably win tonight’s game by ten-to-fifteen runs. I wasn’t too far off. When I just allow myself to read the Braves like a book, I can read ‘em like a book. If I let some optimism get in the way, I get confused.

I’ve never been sold on Carlyle. In 243 career innings coming into tonight, his ERA is 5.58. He is nothing more than a mop up guy. Plus he gives up way too many homers to be a dependable relief pitcher.
That was the 40th homer that he’s given up in 244 career homers. That’s 1 for every 6 innings pitched.
To be honest, I could care less whether he worked hard to come back from his diabetics. What MATTERS to me is if he can pitch effectively for the Braves. I have serious doubts about that.
This is professional sports, not the “Make a Wish” foundation.

For any hope to win the division, the Braves HAVE to sweep the Phillies series. We are still 8 games behind them in the loss column. If we only take 2 of 3, we’ll still be 7 games out in the loss column.
The Giants host the Rockies this weekend. One of those teams will at least win 2 of the 3 games. So in other words, if we win 2 of 3 against the Phillies, then we can only hope that the Giants take at least 2 of 3 from the Rockies. Even if that happens, we’ll only gain 1 game on the Rockies.
So knowing that, the Braves MUST sweep the Phillies this weekend. But even a sweep is no guarantee to gain in the Wild Card, because the Rockies could very well also sweep the Giants.
Not being in control of your destiny means that you have to depend on others to help you. Kind of sucks.

You have to keep things in perspective. We lost a s***ty game last night to a s***ty team but Kawakami is after all is still a 5th starter.
We should have won on Tuesday, that’s all there is to it. If he’s going to bunt he better get it down. That was the worst bunt I’ve ever seen and we’ve seen some bad ones.
He should have been swinging, he probably would have gotten a hit and that would be game over.
My arguement against peope who say that things like focus and intensity or urgency are irrelevant and that they simply got beat by a good pitcher, Latos, is that they just wiped the floor with a batter pitcher.
There’s no excuse for getting shut down by that guy. They clearly lack patience if not focus at times. They’ve beaten Santana and Lincecum among others. They have no excuse for getting no hit by Mat “one ‘t’” Latos.
This should have been a series victory.

Braves have played themselves out of the playoffs by losing to the last place San Diego Padres this week. Even if they beat the Phillies every game this week, they do not stand a chance. Chipper has slumped at the wrong time. McCann could not carry the team. Diaz has been incredible but cannot change the outcome of the series. Time to turn off the TV from Peachtree TV and start watching SEC football. Thanks Braves, but management should have known that Kawakami does not have the stuff to survive in MLB. He needs to be shipped back to Japan. Also, Greg Norton has not produced all year long. Sorry, Greg. It’s time to hang em’ up. Maybe you can get a job as an assistant coach sometime soon. And let’s us not forget the bullpen. There are alot of closers out there, Frank Wren. Why don’t you get one that is worth his salt? There is a reason why the seats are empty. Atlanta is not filled with a bunch of fans who don’t know the sport. We know that you have cut corners and tried to piece together a team around Chipper and McCann. You failed miserably. Try again next year.
