TnBrian–definitely. We’ll do much better replacing Kelly, Frenchy and Schafer’s nonexistent two months of production with McLouth and Prado. We still don’t know if Roachy will come back, and we don’t know if Heyward will open 2010 with the club. Even if he does, I doubt the FO will count on him for anything more than league-average production at best.
I wouldn’t complain at all with a Crawford acquisition though. As long as we don’t sell the farm.
He’s got a club option for 2010 at 10MM, and he’ll be a free agent in 2011.

So you mean I cant complaint? Even if the philllies go on a 5 game skid, it wouldnt matter………they already are East Champions…………dont give me that, anything can happen. They are not the mets………….they have the muscle and now they have much better pitching, case closed, so stop dreaming. We can get the rockies (if our beloved braves stopped playing like a girls softball team), lets hope Buddys and Huddys presence can inject some freshness on the roster.
Now that we have 3 key guys with fresh blood (buddy, Omar and Huddy), I think we shall do even better, but who the hell knows what the hell is up with this guys, they just totally freak out once they get close to the heat of things………..F R U S T R A T I N G…………..

With every homer, Adam LaRoche is making Frank Wren look more like a genius.
The McLouth trade definitely upgraded center field for the Braves. Calling Tommy Hanson and letting Tom Glavine go DEFINITELY upgraded the 5th starter position (I know, he’s probably our #3 guy now, but when he was called up, he was expected to be our 5th starter).
Trading Francoeur for Church upgraded the right field position (again, I know that Francoeur has played better for the Mets, however he was SUCKING A$$ for us). Church has played some good right field for us. Also, Matt Diaz has raked as well playing right.
Then he trades for LaRoche. 4 big moves that seriously upgraded the Braves. Also, Omar Infante came back to replace Diory Hernandez………even Peter Moylan has pitched better in the 2nd half.
Yet despite all those improvements………..we are still struggling to make the play-offs. Frank Wren has made numerous moves to improve the Braves.
I blame Bobby cox for this team not playing up to it’s potential. He continues to mismanage games. And he keeps throwing out Greg Norton as our number 1 pinch hitter. Sure, overall we have played “good” in the second half. However this team is capable of playing GREAT baseball. Our starting pitching is the best in baseball. Our bullpen is decent. Our offense has balance.
There has to be a reason why we have this Jeckel and Hyde act going on with our offense. Some nights, the intensity is up. Others it is not. It’s the manager’s job to have a pulse on the team.
Looks like the intensity is definitely up tonight.

Sure Kurdt excuse them of thinking everyone is an idiot and buying that bull. I never heard Skip or Pete feel they had to build up a series with false implications and they did the play by play for some really bad teams before the glory of the 90’s.

What do you folks think it will take to get LaRoche to resign? Who else would be suitors for him?
My thinking is he will need at least 3 years, maybe 4? But folks were signing for less years last winter unless they were the elite players.
Gotta be in the 7-9 million per year range, wouldn’t ya think?

Well yeah you can complain. But it seems like lately the blog has been filled with people who are calling for the season to be over (and who brag that they knew the season was over by the third game).
It’s just getting old. They say “ballgame!” or “season!” and then continue to stay to complain about the Braves.

A few days ago I was arguing with another blogger about whether the Braves should keep Javy around or Hudson. I went with keeping Javy because of the K’s he piles up. He countered that it would be more economical to resign Husdon and trade JV in order to keep the prospects you’d have to trade to get a hitter. WOOOO… glad I’m not a GM on that one.

Bobby had a weak team for the first 3 months of the season, then the team gets improved by the GM, and has been playing well for 2 months, and it’s Bobby’s fault that the team isn’t higher in the standings???

David..(Athens, AL)………thanks for your 9:25pm posting. As soon as I heard about Hudson being pulled from his rehab start tonight and penciled in to start on Monday, I took some time to think “why”?
As far as we know, none of our starting pitching is hurt. Also, calling on Hudson to replace Kawakami ahead of schedule was puzzling. I seriously doubt that this is indicative of Kawakami’s 6th inning last night.
So, to me the logical conclusion is that something has to be in the works. The timing of it is no coincidence.
Again, as I stated before, what happens after Monday’s game will probably depend on how Tim Hudson pitches on Monday (the last day before a trade can be made where the participants involved are eligible for post season play).
Despite what many of you may believe, a significant trade can be made before Aug. 31st. I’m sure that many teams are aware that making a claim on a player “just to block another team from getting him” can be a costly maneuver. Just ask the White Sox. In this economic climate, its cost prohibited to do that. Teams are more willing to dump a high salaried player on a team who does that.

The term bi-polar is thrown around here a lot and perhaps for good reason. They win, we’re happy. They lose, we want a new manager. Okay, so even when they win we want a new manager.
But as pathetic as they were the last two nights and as much as we want half the team to be cut… okay, half the team should be cut… I remain unreasonably optimistic.
I’m not saying anything, I’m not saying we’re going to win the wild card or sweep this weekend, I’m just saying that we are going to kick the @#$% out of the Phillies.

I think you may be right on LaRoche. I think he can go elsewhere and get a 3-4 year deal. I don’t think the Braves would be willing to go more than 2 years. We’ll have to see how the off season market shapes up.

Yeah. Not sure what the big idea is — taking away a double like that. He couldn’t pull a hamstring right there?
But results aside, McCann has looked a lot more comfortable. Even the ball he popped up to first a few innings ago, he had a GREAT rip at it, was right on it. Just got under it. He just seems to be swinging with more confidence and more authority.
