Maybe Crawford is a good idea for the Braves to look into this winter. Everybody knows he’s a great leadoff hitter and a very good OF. Crawford/McLouth/Heyward is a very good OF. Resign LaRoche and hope he can have more 1st half power this time. Still love Vazquez back
I hereby nominate you as Frank Wren’s top assistant. Great outfield you have there my friend.
Liberty Media owns the Braves, not Liberty Mutual which is an insurance company and has insured my driving for all 46 years that I have been licensed to drive. Please no more blaming the insurance company, Liberty Media is a media company and has specialized in lots of these tax break deals requiring five years of ownership.
Crawford would be a nice pickup, and for 10MM next year he’d probably be a bargain. But I shrudder to think how much we’d have to give to get one year of him, and I don’t think he addresses what this team really needs–a big power threat.
I have heard Tampa Bay is looking to drop some salary next year, so Crawford might be a possibility. His salary will be 11.5 mil if the escalators kick in.
We won’t need Crawford next year , Schafer-Mclouth-Heyward with Diaz,Church backups and bench hitters to replace (Norton) this team will have Speed, Speed, Speed and a few good hitters.

We could also probably get Xavier Nady pretty cheap after an injury and with this economy. That would be a nice power bat in the middle of the order w/o giving up too much on defense.
A guy like Crawford would be a good (expense, yet good) insurance policy for Schafer and Heyward. If one or both of those guys are slow to develop, CC would be a good fill in for 2010.
I would be OK with him. What would it take to get him? Cody Johnson and a minor league pitching prospect? Could we get him that cheap?
Jurrjens
No thanks on Pena. Lets make a go at LaRoche and give him 3-4 years if necessary. No guarantees that Freeman ever makes it to ATL.
Buy low on Quentin? Not a bad idea. I’d be careful about what I gave up for him though. I’d love to get Reimold, but I think Frank Wren’s got a better chance of getting a job from Cal Ripken…
I don’t know if either Heyward or Schafer will open the season with the club, but if they do, carrying Diaz and Church isn’t a bad idea in order to keep them from being overexposed initially.
Wayne–Crawford would be a nice pickup, but not my first choice. He doesn’t have what we need most, and we have some of his skills in-house with Schafer, but yes, he would be a perfect fit as a placeholder for the prospects. I think he’d cost a lot more than Cody and a prospect though.
Florida and Colorado lose…profitable night for the Bravos (baring a catastrophic collapse). Gonna have to be a lot more nights like this if we are to keep our dim playoff hopes alive. One thing I do like is how the offense keeps scoring runs after the initial outburst…good sign.
Yeah I think Quentin and Nady are only good options on the cheap. Quentin for a couple mid-level prospects and Nady for just a year or 2 and 5-7 million. But I REALLY want a right-handed bat with some pop in this lineup.
Kawakami had been pitching well the past several starts until the 6th inning meltdown last night. I seriously doubt that the Braves decided to move up Tim Hudson’s timetable and start him on MOnday based on what transpired last night in the 6th inning.
I have a strong feeling that it isnt a concidence that Monday is August 31st. I’m saying that I see no reason for Hudson to have his start moved up (he doesnt have to be activated by Monday to be eligible for the post season…….because he is already eligible for the post season because he’s on the DL)……other than to either showcase him for a trade……..or feeling more comfortable trading one of the other starters by seeing Hudson have a good start on Monday.
A team like Boston may be desperate for starting pitching. Either way, something is in the works. A lot will depend on how well Hudson’s start goes on Monday.
I just have a feeling that Schafer will not be a Brave … too many issues … from suspension, to bad start this year, injuries and more injuries … just don’t have a good feeling about him for the future ..
