Thanks for the blog. May be the settings on the new laptop, but the font is HUGE!
I think on paper the Braves are a better team than the Rockies and Giants so why do they look so bad a times and find themselves falling out of the race? At some point you got to look at the coaching staff.
They also need to start playing with some energy, get excited when you tie a game in the ninth. You can see a rally building but half the players are still just sitting on the bench.

SWEEP TONIGHT!!!! Go Padres!!!
Yikes..my eyes hurt carroll..
August 27th, 20092:02 pm
I’m just glad I could finally read the blog today. Corrective lenses are for cowards.
August 27th, 20092:03 pm
From last blog,
I’m not sold on Teahen, but I understand your point and largely agree. The Braves should be looking for someone to eventually step into Chipper’s full-time role (and I don’t mean punch-and-judy hitters like Prado or Infante).
The guy I’d love to see in Atlanta is Ian Stewart, who can play LF or 2B in addition to 3B (where he’s outstanding), but he’s signed for the minimum, so the Rockies aren’t moving him.
The Braves are done! Better luck next year.
Nova Scotia Steve
I think we need to give Chipper a break…the guy is trying to help the team as much as he can…and he doing it by what he believes is the best for the team – being in the line-up – Even though yeah maybe he could use a couple days off –
This will be his “healthiest” he’s been for what 5 seasons – by number of games played.
He’s tired…He’s 37 and wore down…
Yes maybe he needs some time off…but he’s doing what he thinks is right…it’s maybe the worst slump of his career…he’ll come out of it…hopefully.
The timing is the awful part…but we’d all be on em no matter what time of year it is…May, June or July….because we become to expect so much from our life-time .309 switch hitting third basemen…
I’ll say that again…life-time .309 switch hitter
wayne, from the last blog Let’s not say Dye or Abreu in the same sentence with good defense.
notice i did say we’d have to stretch the idea of defense if we were to get those guys.
but think about it, say the braves sign mike cameron, which im sure everyone is tired of seeing my suggest. but, to start the year, we could have an outfield left t right of mclouth, cameron, diaz…with church and b. jones backing up. thats three guys who can play all three outfield spots. when heyward is ready, they can send b. jones back down, and ease heyward into the position, and there will be enough positional flexibility to overcome injuries, give guys days off, get other guys ABs, if the need them, ect.

big font for a big game…
August 27th, 20092:09 pm
In 83′ saw Neil Young at UGA Coliseum, the very next night Tom Petty at the Omni, 10-rows back.
Talking bout a one-two punch… The Neil show was the best concert I’ve ever attended. I know gripping is an unusual word to describe a concert, but that’s exactly what it was..
I originally posted this at previous blog because I’m and idiot and didn’t realize a new one was up…..
August 27th, 20092:10 pm
j/k for any of you that think im serious
Watch! The braves will get swept by the pads and then sweep the phillies. but then will lose 2 out of 3 to the reds. That’s how this season has been going.
If the Braves win tonight, maybe you can keep posting with Big Fonts….at your bloggers’ eyes expense of course…but if it works, it works. It might just be a good luck charm….and the Braves need all the luck they can get at this point.
My eyes have seen much worse over the past couple of nights I’ll tell you that much.
Robert (Chipper Is The Best)
August 27th, 20092:11 pm
The Braves aren’t out of it but with that being said they have to win tonight. They have to!!!
August 27th, 20092:12 pm
Prime Time: You can see a rally building but half the players are still just sitting on the bench.”"”
A lack of my favorite word, chemistry….
dogsbrekky (now it's a real bollocks mess)
Shamus – Neil Young is just awesome, a brilliant and underated guitarist
August 27th, 20092:14 pm
But true enough…We win tonight…Colorado loses…We’re 4 1/2 back…Doesn’t sound too bad does it.
Remember the Rockies and San Fran go head to head again following their respective series.
Its not over…the tough part is we’re going to have to win a couple from the Phillies…which is no easy task…but its still not that dark yet.
August 27th, 20092:15 pm
Heavy rain coming down here – supposed to shower off and on most of the day
August 27th, 20092:19 pm
Steve From Toledo Or Somewhere: Shamus, come on. How much chemistry will get this club into the playoffs? How many wins would it be worth?
Me? I’ll take good ballplayers any day.”"
Steve, though a certified idiot, I do realize it takes a bit of talent in the mix. lol
DAMMITT! New I shoulda majored in chemistry!

Weather permitting, I’m playing golf with Otis Nixon tomorrow.

August 27th, 20092:24 pm
Win 3 of our next 4 and we are still fine. Rockies will lose tonight and then hopefully lose 2 of 3 to the Giants. The Giants will be pitching Zito, The Freak (Lincecum), and Cain. So that being said if we take care of business we could get ourselves within 3.5 by Sunday. That being said we probably won’t and the Rockies will start a new 10 game win streak. Go Braves Chop Chop!!
If these players don’t start exhibiting more energy and a sense of urgency, the season is indeed over. What a pathetic effort the last two nights and with the playooffs on the line. Wonder how the Braves feel about giving Chipper a 3 year extension now? He may be 37 but he plays much older. Well time to start planning for 2010. Lots of questions, and positions to upgrade. Offseason should be interesting and hoefully productive.
August 27th, 20092:25 pm
Mid Town Joe, you should buy a copy of Pat Travers “Snorting Whiskey And Drinking Cocaine” as a gift for Otis.. I’m sure he’d preciate it!
Braves are DONE. Even if they make it to playoffs they will be crushed by superior pitching and no run support to our quality pitchers. It is either now or later. I rather see it now then in playoffs where bases are loaded inning after inning with 0 out and NO run scored. See you next year folks.
Wow large print edition today!
Carroll/DOB/Whomever I wrote a long reply to Wayne on the last blog, had to do some work in between sentences so it took a while to finish and by the time I submitted it you had the new blog up. Anyway, it says the comment is awaiting moderation, I guess because I included a couple links at the end and I was hoping you would be a peach and moderate that one on thru for me when you get a spare minute…no hurry. As of right now it’s the last comment on the last blog. Thanks much.
oh my gosh, that is hysterical. LOL at your responses. The font looked normal on the page where it lists the beginnings of each of the last few blogs, but then you click continue reading and BOOM it’s HUGE! I think the deal is that our new computer’s have tiny font because the screen is small and they need it that way to get high resolution on everything. so to counteract that I write in microsoft with really big font….AS YOU CAN SEE!
Bear with me today, eh? And I’ll see if i can’t figure out how to do it right. And if Vazquez pitches a shutout or something, big font it is…
August 27th, 20092:26 pm
Mid Town Joe, great that you have a golf date with Otis. He was always a favorite of mine. He played two years here in Nashville in the Yankees system. I wish we had Otis at the top of this lineup. He could manufacture runs with the best of em.
Vazquez will show us how its done today…bank on it…Padres won’t hit S*it today.
August 27th, 20092:27 pm
Madre Padre: shamus your and idiot”"
Thank you so much Madre. Rarely do I receive such high praise from fellow posters. Actually got a tear in corner of eye…
August 27th, 20092:28 pm
Went yesterday to see the Mississippi Braves play the Chattanooga Lookouts. Jason Heyward didn’t play and to my knowledge, didn’t start the previous two days. When are the roster expansions? It almost looks like he is being “saved” for the call-up’s.
Otis cleaned up his act.
Steve from OH
August 27th, 20092:30 pm
Shamus–didn’t mean to be rude, LOL, but I’ve seen this play before.
dogsbrekky, couldn’t agree more on Neil. Great, great, poet too…
Wasn’t Otis Nixon the first African American ever to play baseball???…
Oh no wait that Mr. Robinson.
I’ll tell you one thing…Towards the end of his career Nixon probably fooled a lot of people into thinking that however.
August 27th, 20092:31 pm
Heyward is hurt-there was a story somewhere but I can’t find the link…can someone help me out here?
(and roster expansion is Sept. 1)
August 27th, 20092:32 pm
I blame fox sportssouth. they posted braves record and 0.00 bullpen ERA before the game.
Harvester of Sorrow
Lefty67, Don Sutton said on a broadcast this week that Heyward and Freeman were in Atlanta to have some injuries checked out and make sure they are ready for the Arizona fall league. Said they probably would be back in the Mississippi lineup within a week.
August 27th, 20092:33 pm
Lefty67 – Heyward isn’t being called up, someone posted a link earlier today that the Braves want to shut him down until AFL play starts because of…a bruised heel or something? Where’s Rob? I’m sure he knows.

There ya go…hey cab!
August 27th, 20092:35 pm
Just finished updating my Ipod. Had to add the new Patterson Hood album, a few Widespread records, and all the My Morning Jacket. It’s a thing of beauty now. I can put it on shuffle and listen for 2.2 days without a song I don’t like playing or repetition.
August 27th, 20092:36 pm
Madre Pops – nice gramatics above. “your and”
August 27th, 20092:37 pm
Hope springs eternal but the after tonight the Braves next seven games are on the road against the Phillies and the Fish. Even the most optimistic among us must realize that going 3-4 in that stretch would be touch the way w’re playing.
Crazy Trades McGee
August 27th, 20092:38 pm
It’s like Reader’s Digest for old people. Nice.
Hi Please do us all a favor and do not invoke that name on the blog! It has been rather pleasant for the last few days (dispite the ugly losses) and I fear that the mere mention of said blogger will conjure him from whatever hovel he has been hiding in. Besides, the news about Heyward may push him over the edge…
I think Rob is in mourning that his man can’t play no mo…
August 27th, 20092:39 pm
BTW, Carroll, could you make that font a tad larger? Grandpaw is having a hard time seeing it from six-feet underground at the graveyard.
My hunch is that the Braves will tease us one more time.

Awesome Larry!…love it
August 27th, 20092:43 pm
Long-time blog joke. Once coined in an actual post by a long-forgotten blogger, and taken to the bosom of the bloggers at the time. An honored mischaracterization of the grammatically correct form.
Props to “your and idiot”!
The Ghost of Tommie Aaron
I predict the Braves will win ALL their games from here on out. Remember the Rockies of 2007?
Nova Scotia Steve: Vazquez will show us how its done today…bank on it…Padres won’t hit S*it today.
Jinx? Nahhhh. Doesn’t take jinx to get azzes kicked nowadays…

It will take a miracle for the Braves to make the playoffs, and I doubt that miracle is going to happen especially with our approach to scoring runs. Note that I did not say approach to hitting, because teams can score without getting a hit and earlier the Braves were doing that, now they are back to swinging for the Homerun, and that started in the Phillies series. It is reasonable for Chipper to be tired, it been a long season, coupled with his age, and his busy offseason hunting may also be a factor.
August 27th, 20092:45 pm
And by hitting “submit” instead of “refresh”, I show that any one can be and idiot. Props to me!
loves me some justice, steve

I don’t think they have it in them…..after these last two games anyway. The epitome of Phail.
And props to you, too, scoots!
August 27th, 20092:51 pm
shamus that was a thinly-veiled longcat reference
Rockies/Dodgers start in about 20 mins…So we’ll find out soon enough how big tonight’s game may be.
4 1/2 out would be excellent…plus looks like we’ll move into a tie again with Florida….
August 27th, 20092:52 pm
Last night was yet another example of this team getting a lead early then trying to mail it in. They seem to have trouble with that killer instinct, that ability to step on the other team’s throat when they are down and finish the job. How many wins this year have been games where they got a big lead early, then just barely hung on at the end?
August 27th, 20092:54 pm
Nova Scotia Steve,
Frenchy, 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Stay hot, Jeff, and the Mets will sign you to that extension!
Wayne in Utah: I think that man in SC who won the power ball should buy up some land near the Kennedy compound, and put a single wide on it.
LOL! I love it!
Couple 65′ Ramblers on cement blocks would be a nice touch also..
August 27th, 20092:55 pm
Did someone say Carroll had a new blog up. I can’t find it.
August 27th, 20092:56 pm
Vazquez has not looked like the same pitcher his last two times out, which can be expected. The Starting Pitchers have been very good all year, but the offense has not always supported their efforts. They will need to go on a tear starting tonight to have a chance and keep fans interested. I have said previously that signing Chipper was important, but the terms of his contract in my opinion were terrible and may have been Frank Wren’s worse decision all year. I hope Chipper will prove me wrong, considering he has always been so solid over the years.
August 27th, 20092:57 pm
The padres came to town and blew us away they will complete the sweep unless this braves team shows some kind of urgency, some kind of heart, hell maybe even a little bit of fight. Who am i kidding this team has none of that and chipper is nothing but an automatic out these days.
August 27th, 20092:58 pm
Blog logic says, “Marlins obviously not very good, if they can’t beat the lowly Mets.” Hey, you know what? If all these contending teams that lose to a lesser team (and that’s all of them, for those at home keeping score) aren’t “good”, then they can’t make the playoffs, right? And if none of THEM can make the playoffs (since they aren’t good, as losing to a lesser team certainly bespeaks…so sayeth the blog), then maybe the Braves make the playoffs by default, right? You know, with all these other teams not being “good enough to make the playoffs”? Wow. And here we were worried about actually winning and losing games, LOL.
Maybe Dentz can hang on the Marlins’ blog for a while, and speak to their disurgency. I’m sure they need to be reminded to get some heart, show some passion, stir up some chemistry, and get the hell URGENT, by God.
AZBravooFan….well put. The reason is Bobby Cox. No Killer Instinct. He’s a player’s manager all right….every player…every team. Feels sorry for everyone and doesn’t go for the throat, which transends through his OWN players. There is no other excuse for the under achievement of this very talented team.

August 27th, 20093:03 pm
Atlanta is trully unique. In reading this and the other blogs, I wonder if most of the bloggers are white conservatives who do not like minority players, the Kenedys’, the stimulus package or the healthcare plan. The political rhetoric and the favoritism shown to white players with average abilities makes me wonder. No problem either way …just askin.
August 27th, 20093:04 pm
ncscoots: And by hitting “submit” instead of “refresh”, I show that any one can be and idiot. Props to me!”"
Congratulations scoots! I usually his refresh instead of submit when posting a huge, Paul Lentzesque, post. Never feel like second one is as good as original…
August 27th, 20093:05 pm
scoots–LOL! Props for that.
Maybe Dentz can tell me how I’m posting without a sense of urgency, since my post is less than 3,000 words (well, 25 words, repeated over and over).
August 27th, 20093:06 pm
Cox may need to give Chipper and Brian a day off eevery now and again, with the capable back up in Prado and Ross. The day off may rejuvinate them, and BMac surely must be tired, but the youthfulness is keeping him going. However, the same cannot be said of Chipper so give him some days off, also remember the Braves were winning with Chipper on the bench.
scoots, if all the good teams lose to bad teams, they will just cancel playoffs.
August 27th, 20093:07 pm
The font looked ok on my computer. Regular size. The spacing was all messed up but other than that, it looked ok.
BTW Carroll, my school had senior skip day also. The teachers knew and pretty much looked the other way. I mean, what can they do about it? If a couple of hundred students don’t show up for a day of school, do they suspend all of them?
August 27th, 20093:08 pm
Shadetree: Shamus, are you racist? I drive a rambler. That hurts”"
I was raised to not have racist bone in body. With that said, I am a Ramblerist…

Commissioner of Urgency
August 27th, 20093:12 pm
After much discussion and review of baseball games played the prior month, I have determined that NO TEAM is playing with the amount of urgency required to play in the playoffs.
ALL MLB PLAYOFFS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED.
I suggest that all teams (other than the ChiSox) fire their managers and hire managers with more URGENCY.
Thanks you for your time.
August 27th, 20093:13 pm
braves are done they dont eben look happy to be at the ballpark maybe they just need to get real jobs
August 27th, 20093:14 pm
Well I for one am relieved that the playoffs have been cancelled!
Nothing to worry about now but Heyward’s foot!
