chilidog, between D-Lowe’s 15 million and Chipper’s extension, people may be pining for Mike Hampton’s contract by the time the 2011 season ends.
After all, all people had to complain about Hampton was his not being available. Imagine had he been available and sucked? How ugly would that have been?
This just came to me
“Kurdt, I think a lot of Braves fans want them to lose just so that they won’t fool us into thinking they have a shot to make the playoffs this year.”
This game, notwithstanding, the Braves have no shot at the playoffs this year. Anyone that thinks otherwise, I’ve got some ocean-front property in Arizona for sale.
jeffrey – because he should be playing football, of course. glad he got the broadcasting gig since that didn’t work out, but….
I can’t stand that commercial…
August 26th, 20099:46 pm
I would rather the Braves be a tease and get to watch some exciting games in August and September, than have the season be over in May. And I never ever root against my team. Apparently that’s just me, though.
But yeah, when games matter more, the losses hurt more. And this is pretty painful.
LOL, manny is still out there. Goodnight
this team is getting tuff to watch….
With everything that is at stake, HOW CAN THEY BE PLAYING LIKE THIS AGAINST THE EFFIN PADRES???????????????
What’s that number for Braves playoff tickets? Prolly pick up a couple fer cheap rite now.
jackets77……..your 9:30pm post miscategorizes what I was saying. I DO NOT want to see Norton pinch hitting at any time. I was just tying to put a “positive” spin on him already being used because I know that Bobby Cox is hellbent on using Norton as his #1 pinch hitter off the bench.
What a pitiful team. Wren will you please get rid of our HOF manager?
August 26th, 20099:47 pm
chillidog…probably the same reason that Laroche is batting 7th! makes no sense!! the only reason is twirling around in bobby’s head somewhere..
Soph, I see that. Does KK’s performance look as atrocious as his line? What the hell?
Over under on how many runs Manny gives up this inning? Im gonna go with 3
August 26th, 20099:48 pm
I bet Acosta doesn’t have it in him to give them 2 more runs
Another blunder by McCann.
Of course, the only starter without a hit is Chipper Jones. I hope to God we rid ourselves of him after this year. Sign Derosa to play 3B or just put Infante there. He is done. The Braves are getting swept tomorrow.
McCann is having a great defensive game.
Mac… having a rough night behind the plate.
Steve from OH
chilidog–nope. No reason to bat GA any higher than 7th.
I think the hitters kinda wanted to win this one, but the pitching staff obviously got together and decided they just couldn’t be bothered tonight.
Sweep is getting closer and closer;all the fault of the dumb punks who were on here touting the Braves over the Pads. Baseball gods hate hubris and stomp on it whenever they find it. Some folks just never learn though.
why is Acosta still in there? waiting for his spot in the batting order? Jeez it sucks having such a short/weak bench
August 26th, 20099:49 pm
This is all I’m gonna say …. no team in history has ever missed the playoffs after going on a 36-game winning streak.
If we win the rest of our games, we’re dancing, kids! We’re dancing.
Paul…i gotcha…was just trying to say, that was the most important ab of this game so far…and ofcoure cox puts in norton..
Good job Acosta.
WHAT A JOKE
Acosta would F up a steel ball. SO would Cox.
When it rains it pours.
Did I mention that I really, really really don’t like Acosta?
I think my laptop is starting to think that F5 is the button I press when I want to see gloom and cursing.
Acosta’s such a disappointment this season.
He was a disappointment last season as well and yet here he is.
Acosta is definitely no Maddux with the glove. Maddux would have easily got that one.
any word as to which Braves have passed waivers if this play continues into the weekend and the Braves decide to peddle a few assets. Maybe an AL team needing a DH would go for Loaf. What kind of ransom would be available for Gonzo or Soriano or Vazquez if the Braves get swept by the Pads?
If the Braves get swept by the Pads and fall out of contention I wonder if the Braves will look around and see if they think they can get a deal better than in the offseason or better than draft pick compensation?
I was hoping the anti-DOB praise curse would work here but as I was typing I watched McCann loose the ball trying to throw to second followed by an RBI single off of Acosta’s glove. Maybe I just need to post this to turn our luck
Loaf never woulda scored on that
This is some ugly, ugly baseball.

Do you realize the disadavantage the Braves are at playing in front of crowds like these? Braves fans make these important games seem like spring training games; sitting on their hands, not knowing when to clap, and generally being unaware of what is happening on the field. I was at a game two weeks ago and started clapping loudly for a strikeout in the first and the people around me looked at me like I was crazy. Unreal. That said, this is an embarrassing way to end the season.
Just saw a group of servicemen getting up and walking towards the exits. The Braves got the US military to give up today.
there’s 1, come on Manny … 1 more!!!
jackets77……..thanks for your props in your 9:44pm posting.
Did Joe just say that the Padres are embarassing the Braves with those stats?
ok…i’m out…can’t watch this anymore….( ok i’m lying…i’m hoping leaving the blog changes the braves luck!)…i’ll try anything at this point
This is the series we can look back on later as…..the nail in the coffin.
Honestly, I tuned out for a few innings and it was 3-0 Braves. When I turned it back on KK was in trouble and it was 4-3 Padres. Then, EOF self-imploded and made it worse. Now, Manny is making it horrific.
Chop It Up All-Star
LOL, that whole row in the camera view got up to leave.
With everything that is at stake, HOW CAN THEY BE PLAYING LIKE THIS AGAINST THE EFFIN PADRES?????
they had a team meeting B4 the game and decided they couldn’t be bothered tonight. Maybe manana.
Lighten up Guys, 2010 is just around the corner
and Ryan Howard hits a bomb. Ballgame in Pittsburgh…..8 games out now. I get to watch Lowe against Cliff Lee in Philly on Saturday, can’t wait to see that shelling.
Might as well give Chipper’s ass the day off tomorrow. I mean, if they lost the first two against the Pad’s with him going hitless, might as well get him two days rest and at least give him a shot at catching up with a fastball over the weekend.
and how bout them Marlins too. Looks like they want to be in a playoff race. This Braves team makes me want to flip out!
August 26th, 20099:51 pm
It’s very rude to steal bases with a 4+ run lead.
Just good enough to break your heart. What a sad commentary!!
When was the last time the Padres had a winning streak?
This is turning into a laugher. Back to 3rd place where we belong.
Yup, just about football season… Roll Tide
Come on, you have to laugh a little. These last two days have been surreal. McLouth going on the DL really hurt this team and chemistry, but that’s baseball.
This season is going to be fun!
Chipper do us a favor qnd retire you coward. Why sign a 3 year old contract if your too old to play? You are gutless unless you retire now
Tony Gwynn, Sr
August 26th, 20099:52 pm
Better luck next year, Braves. Glad we could be the spoiler.
Chipper you are making Manny look like Pete rose
good nite all!
Since the Braves scored 4 runs tonight, I’m sure Cox’s post game comments will be something along the lines of:
“Aw shucks. KK just didn’t have the good stuff tonight. Which is too bad, the bats were on fire. We really couldn’t have hit any better”
No More Bobby 2.
Why is Acosta still in there? Obviously Cox does not care. Why are they talking about us and the playoffs? There is no way these Little Leaguers will be there.
Well, the bright side is …. McCann’s probably going to win another Silver Slugger award. So we got that goin for us.
Braves HAVE TO win the next series to even be considered as contenders
August 26th, 20099:53 pm
SH – oh please – I was at the last Dodger series with a full house of screaming fans and the Dodgers beat the Braves like the joke they are.
This is very SAD to watch. Are the Braves supposed to be a playoff contending team?
I want to see a Braves-Padres brawl a-la 1984.
“And Bud Black just HIT Manny Acosta! Why not? Everyone else in the league has been?”
August 26th, 20099:54 pm
moral victory for that bum Acosta, striking out Gonzalez. Should send his ass out of the organization on a high note. Thanks for showing up and letting every inherited runner score, and giving up a bunch of your own. There’s got to be something better in triple-A than this guy.
Fast Eddie Perez
Acosta is the pitching equal to Greg Norton, neither should be on the roster, both have stunk all year, when does Acosta come in & nothing bad happens? Never, Braves are done, wait till next year, Thanks Booby
For all the Chipper fans, you can sign up for a white-tail deer hunt led by him at the old Double Dime Ranch in November or December. It will only cost you $20,000.
A big storm about to hit Turner Field. I say don’t even have a rain delay. Just call the game.
Pass me a tissue, please.
by the Padres
N8 – sounds just like Bobby ! – LOL
the reason why this team isnt beating this padres team is because bobby cox sucks. his management is god awful. u have manny acosta on this team WHY?.. greg norton? WHY.. his decisions have cost them too much … we are lucky right now LA is spanking the rockies..
Jurrjens4NLCY – You just don’t get it do you?
The last six games the Padres had scored a total of 10 runs?
And they’ve got nine tonight. Perfect.
There is NO ONE ELSE available in the bullpen? NO ONE?
Can Daichi Takasue throw a little?
Oh, thank you for the summary.
Alright folks I’m going back to bed! Night all!
Seriously, 9 runs? Padres?
I love how we give up 9 runs in the past 3 innings to a crappy team like the Padres, while the Braves, who are supposed to be a team trying to get into the playoffs scores just once after the 1st inning. This is fckn pathetic!!!!
August 26th, 20099:55 pm
The Phillies could put the finishing touches on ending our play-off chances this weekend. If that is the case, then perhaps the Phillies would be interested in giving the Braves a top prospect for either Soriano or Gonzalez.
The Phillies will make the play-offs. However without a reliable closer, they wont advance past the first round. If they are going to make a trade, they have to do it before Monday evening. You know that they have to be concerned about Lidge.
August 26th, 2009
It’s very rude to steal bases with a 4+ run lead
Nah not rude, they just don’t know any better. Pitching around chipper last night, not running on loafs arm, their scouts must just do cross words when they go to games. They must think the Braves could come back and score runs.
lol Braves just got Acosted…
Lets have another shot of Bobby. Maybe he will go to his nose this time. Whenever I see that old fool I want to puke.
Yikes, something tells me that Philly series is going to be ugly.
August 26th, 20099:56 pm
Guy exudes a winning persona… unlike this buncha hacks.
You just don’t get it do you?
Damn, can’t a man pretend….
and Acosta is still in there why…?
Should have went a little more on the inside. Acosta, if you are going to hit him, make it hurt like that home run did.
Man. That shouldve been a brawl!
Acosta hits the guy that just took him deep? What’s the matter, Kouzmanoff. Charge the mound!
That’s what this team needs, a bench clearing brawl.
Though the life the Braves have shown this series, they might all stay in the dugout and let Acosta get his a$$ kicked.
Manny still in there, bobby knows a lost cause game when he’s see one
For the love of all that is spell checked…It’s playoffs. Not play-offs.
August 26th, 20099:57 pm
Frankie Wren: “When do playoff tixs go on sale?”
As season tic holder got mine yesterday lol
Alright bases loaded….the game is over anyway, I want a granny. I want them to be humiliated. If not a granny then a double. Or Manny to walk in a few runs. Come on, lets see how bad it can get. Mwahahahahaha!
Why is Manny Acosta still in in the major leagues? He stinks!!!!
Kawakami should be released!!!
They wondered if Acosta hit the batter on purpose – yeah right if he could aim that good he would not suck as bad as he does…
August 26th, 20099:58 pm
NOW the rain comes… bout an hour or so late.
No mas. No mas.
Acostus strikes again. No idea why he is still on the team. No idea why Bobby would give up on the game so early, but maybe he realizes the offense sucks and wasn’t coming back anyways!?!
Greg Norton also strikes again, another key at bat, another crucial situation, and he does nothing. Why the heck is he still on the team?
Matt Diaz and Loaf comprise the worst two LF/RF combos in the history of baseball. Those two look like Manny and Adam Dunn playing the outfield, just awful.
Well this is it. We are what 8 games back in the division and now about to be 6 back in the wild card. I think its time to start with the kids and see what happens. We arent going to make the playoffs and to continue the season without these kids getting some major league experience before next year will be a big mistake. I think it is sad to have lost two games in a row to the padres when we are in a playoff hunt. Bobby making poor managerial decisions makes me livid.
We had prado and anderson start yesterday when they havent played in a week. Any body who has common sense knows that they were going to be rusty. So, you start the guys that have been playing and if you get a lead then you bring those guys back into the lineup. You ease them back. I mean geez it was obvious when prado went O for 6 last night. It just amazes me that these people make all this money to be leaders and decision makers and they cant do any better than that. I think they need to make up some kind of reality show and let a blogger be a manager for a week.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
