Paul Lentz..I understand the concept of getting Norton out of the way in the 6th but I don’t agree with it…what if we dont get another pinch hit spot for the rest of the game with 2 on? go ahead run at the plate? who’s to say we get that chance again…we put a better hitter…or just a ‘hitter’ b/c norton is not a professional hitter, up there and get a couple of runs maybe this is a whole different game and acosta might not be in the game if its tied or a 1 run game….just plain fckn stupid for bobby to keep going to Norton over and over and over again in key situations every single game it seems…its just idiotic

Is there some financial reason why the top management of the Braves continue to keep Cox as manager? I do not understand why no one wants to do something about him. Are we not playing this game to win?

The issue of who goes to the pen when Hudson comes back is a no-brainer. Even when #11 wins, it’s a 5-6 inning effort that burns out the pen. We need to bite the bullet admit a multi-million dollar mistake and put the guy in long relief.

Everything is in front of them, its all in their hands, sweep or at least win 2 of 3 and head to Philly to take your chances

And they can’t muster any fight! They should be ASHAMED

Sure, the Braves are mathmatically in it, but mentally they’re looking towards vacation. That’s the tired that Chipper referenced. Once the Braves are out of it, they’ll relax and play stress free baseball. You’ll see Norton ripping the cover off the ball then.

With a loss tonight, the Braves will be 8 games back of Philly and 6.5 out of the wildcard, and this after playing to the 2nd or 3rd best record in NL since late June.

You expect them to play good enough to erase one of those deficits with only 36 games left?

We need a new manager.

Can’t Frank Wren do anything about this? He drop-kicks two hall of famers and yet we have to watch Greg Norton get every possible chance to prove himself and continues to fail.

Bobby obviously likes Norton. I for one loved the guy last year but good Lord, it’s August 26th and he’s not getting any better.

He was bad to begin with and he has done nothing whatsoever this year.

What a ripoff it is to not only have Brooks Conrad thirty miles up the road who couldn’t have done more for us and yet he never even got the chance to play at Turner Field.

That’s just cruel. We should at least be able to show our appreciation. It’s simply not fair.

ChurchMan

It takes the Braves over half of the season to get just 5 games over .500 and the two possible teams they’d have to catch for the wild card lead, LA or Colorado, are 22 and 18 games over .500.

If that doesn’t tell you they have no shot I don’t know what does.

chilidog75

Lowe’s been better than KK, cause he eats up more innings.

Paul Lentz

August 26th, 2009
9:42 pm

Professional sports is just a microcosm of society. Just as in regular society, jobs in sports do not always go to the “most qualified”. Whether it is on the field or in management…….there are issues in play other than “pure talent”. Networking, kissing A$$, P!SSING someone off, personalty conflicts, ego, etc. all come into play when it comes to decisions that management makes, whether front office or field manager.

There is NO LOGICAL REASON, from a performance standpoint, as to why Greg Norton is on the team. He cant play in the field. He cant pinch run. And he cant hit anymore.

Our starting pitching has kept us in the play-off hunt. However, any “serious” chance of the Braves contending was eliminated right before the All-Star Break when Frank Wren decided to activate Greg Norton and send down Gregor Blanco. That move set in motion a series of moves that set the tone for how the team was going to continue being managed.

I know that Frank Wren is in a tough spot. With how shrewd some of his moves have been, I cannot imagine that he wanted to keep Norton on the team. Given his body of work since he became GM of the Braves, I feel that he had to cave in to Bobby’s desire to keep Norton on the team.

Greg Norton is a waste of a roster spot. No sane person can say that Brooks Conrad wouldnt have done better in the second half than Greg Norton. Even though I am not a believer in Kelly Johnson, at least he can “contribute” as a pinch runner, can play in the field (even if he plays a brutal second base), and get the occasional pinch hit. Norton cant contribute at all.

When Kelly was called back up, Greg Norton should have been released. Sending Conrad down was a terrible move.
