Chop It Up All-Star
August 26th, 20099:30 pm
Acosta’s got to be a tough one to give up on – the guy has great stuff, but he can’t consistently place the ball.
Great analysis jaduba.
Paul Lentz..I understand the concept of getting Norton out of the way in the 6th but I don’t agree with it…what if we dont get another pinch hit spot for the rest of the game with 2 on? go ahead run at the plate? who’s to say we get that chance again…we put a better hitter…or just a ‘hitter’ b/c norton is not a professional hitter, up there and get a couple of runs maybe this is a whole different game and acosta might not be in the game if its tied or a 1 run game….just plain fckn stupid for bobby to keep going to Norton over and over and over again in key situations every single game it seems…its just idiotic
Would someone tell me why we pitch hit with pitchers, seem to be the only team in the bigs to do it.
…”Briiing out cha dead !!!!…..(clang)….Briiing out cha dead !!!!….(clang)….”
I could almost swallow last night’s farce because I thought we’d come back tonight with some fire and take these next two.
We’re fixin’ to get swept folks…..yea really.
I would rather have Greg Norton pitch than Manny Acosta.
…..by the Padres.
Is there some financial reason why the top management of the Braves continue to keep Cox as manager? I do not understand why no one wants to do something about him. Are we not playing this game to win?
Wren In Doubt

The issue of who goes to the pen when Hudson comes back is a no-brainer. Even when #11 wins, it’s a 5-6 inning effort that burns out the pen. We need to bite the bullet admit a multi-million dollar mistake and put the guy in long relief.
Hate to put so much on 3 turns at bat, but boy, you have to think they have to get this game. Someone needs to run a slump buster down to the tunnel for Chipper and get him going.
….in OUR house.
August 26th, 20099:32 pm
Thanks for a great season. I only got ripped once this year. Have a great fall and winter.
This just make me so irritated I WANT TO PUKE…Come off a big series win over Florida and have a day off at home before taking on one of the WORST teams in baseball….
Everything is in front of them, its all in their hands, sweep or at least win 2 of 3 and head to Philly to take your chances
And they can’t muster any fight! They should be ASHAMED
What does Greg Norton have on Bobby Cox that we aren’t aware of?? Is he Bobby’s illegitimate child? WTF? Greg Norton- .143 and dropping by the minute. No way this guy should be on a major league roster.
Good thing football season is now here because the Braves are not finished!!!!
N8, your 9:21 post is a bullseye
We don’t get any more at-bats to try and come back? Dang it!
August 26th, 20099:33 pm
That Coors Light fake press conference of Jim Mora has to be my favorite
“okay….forget I brought it up”
I think there will end up being another “multi-million dollar mistake” in the Braves rotation — and it aint KK. He’s been OK.
Beat the Braves, Defeat the Braves
Last Places team defeat the braves, hanging sliders
Minor League Speed, guaranteed to waste a 7 run lead.
Cause in the end Braves Bullpen will fade Away, October baseball wont be at the Ted.
From Acosta to O’Flaherty, every game is now in doubt.
Can anyone on this staff get THREE men out..
P.S( i guess Skip was right, just different team)
Didn’t you read the interview Cox gave? He specifically said that he was NOT playing to win. He was playing to lose. He has been throwing games since they sent his “boy” Jeff Francoeur away. Punishing the Braves.
Fire Cox Fire Pentelton Is there a worst fielding catcher than McCann DIaz and Anderson should be Dhing.Cant wait til 2011
August 26th, 20099:34 pm
Sure, the Braves are mathmatically in it, but mentally they’re looking towards vacation. That’s the tired that Chipper referenced. Once the Braves are out of it, they’ll relax and play stress free baseball. You’ll see Norton ripping the cover off the ball then.
With a loss tonight, the Braves will be 8 games back of Philly and 6.5 out of the wildcard, and this after playing to the 2nd or 3rd best record in NL since late June.
You expect them to play good enough to erase one of those deficits with only 36 games left?
Just checking in from my football watching – glad to see the Rally Killer is still going strong.
Sorry, but it is hard to take a team serious when they call themselves “professional” when they
trot out NORTON as the clutch man.
Loganville’s Brandon Moss tied it up in the ninth for the Bucs off the Fightin Phils’ Ryan Madson, doing his best Brad Lidge imitation.
The crazies are hereeeeeeeee.
This just came to me
August 26th, 2009
Bad time for the BRaves to start playing poorly again. Hard to see with so few games remaining them being able to start playing well enough to see post season play.
August 26th, 20099:35 pm
Good start by Diaz
You gotta work pretty hard to walk a Brave…other than Chipper (and occasionally my boy Kelly)
Well folks, looks like after this game today’s blog title still applies…just put an “S” in front of the last word.
Very appropriate that Jerry Springer is at this game. Maybe Cox should go on his show with his wife.
this game is the season for us…show some heart, come back and win…and we got hope…
lose this to the padres…and its over…might even get swept tommorow..
Every player has a hit in tonights game except for Chipper and the pitchers spot. Pathetic Chipper.
Steve from OH
Lowe’s been better than KK. KK is the odd man out if they do decide to stick with a 5-man rotation.
August 26th, 20099:36 pm
That was a patethic at bat by Prado.
Where the hell is the Prado from weeks ago?
Yeah, we have a couple of ABs, but there are only four or five baseball players on this team that GAF.
and maybe Roachy
Ryan, I think 2010 will be the Braves year. Wren will make a few moves in the off season.
For sure I thought that Cox would give Chipper a day off today, after the AJC article.
August 26th, 20099:37 pm
BAD AB by Prado and another 1st pitch out by Chipper
How many more games before Chipper breaks Cal Ripken’s record ?
Chipper… he’s close…
The problem with Chipper? That right there!
A fastball. Belt high. He gets extended, squares it up. And can’t get it to the warning track.
Nice AB chipper. What do Michael Jackson and Chipper have in common?
We need a new manager.
Can’t Frank Wren do anything about this? He drop-kicks two hall of famers and yet we have to watch Greg Norton get every possible chance to prove himself and continues to fail.
Bobby obviously likes Norton. I for one loved the guy last year but good Lord, it’s August 26th and he’s not getting any better.
He was bad to begin with and he has done nothing whatsoever this year.
What a ripoff it is to not only have Brooks Conrad thirty miles up the road who couldn’t have done more for us and yet he never even got the chance to play at Turner Field.
That’s just cruel. We should at least be able to show our appreciation. It’s simply not fair.
August 26th, 20099:38 pm
I just woke up, Why aren’t the Braves winning?
right on cue, right on the money. merci beaucoup!
Does Chipper have no idea of the concept ‘Discipline at the plate’? Or ‘Take a pitch’?
7 outs left to define the season…COME ON BRAVES!! WAKE THE F##K UP!!!
Yeah, go ahead and change pitchers! See what I care!
Dang dang dang dang dang…
Hahaha…..you have to admit this is pretty funny how they all got you all to actually believe. Surprise! Same old crap! Go chipper! Can’t wait to see what the next 3 years have unstore with not a sole behind him ready to come up! Yeah good job everyone!
N8 That 9:21 post is priceless, You’re dead on right. DOB does a poor job attacking folks instead of facing the facts. DOB is never wrong. Mucho props to you N8, Glad someone speak up the truth!!!
August 26th, 20099:39 pm
this is painful – like watching a wounded animal
OK…we’re down 4…and need baserunners…BUT…I believe… if there was ANY possible way to do it…we would swing at the pitch BEFORE the 1st pitch….!!!
Smoltz shut this team down?
“Lowe’s been better than KK. KK is the odd man out if they do decide to stick with a 5-man rotation.”
-Steve from OH
At this point, the only important part is seeing how Tim performs, in reference to building next year’s starting 5.
It takes the Braves over half of the season to get just 5 games over .500 and the two possible teams they’d have to catch for the wild card lead, LA or Colorado, are 22 and 18 games over .500.
If that doesn’t tell you they have no shot I don’t know what does.
Lowe’s been better than KK, cause he eats up more innings.
He also eats up about twice the salary for a worse ERA. He might end up being an albatross on this team for the next couple of years.
August 26th, 20099:40 pm
nice to see the Padres know how to add on runs when they’re in the lead and kick a team while they’re down.
one thing for sure, bring in Norton & Acosta and that brings out the prime on here, whoo hoo .
I would love to see a Jerry Springer show with Booby Cox facing off against us here on the old blog. I can guarantee punches would be thrown.
You think everyone who says Atlanta is a crappy sports town reads this blog? Half the fans rejoice when things go wrong, and most demonstrate 0 knowledge of baseball.
Woo, great hit there by Mac.
Maybe some Gwen Stefani will get the team fired up.
At least that’s what the PA guys are thinking
Obviously that’s assuming Huddy returns to form, but I see no reason why he shouldn’t, but yes, I think he definitely has to get starts in some form to allow the FO to gauge readiness and value and stuff like that.
At least we have one real hitter on this team.
Stay hot Mac.
August 26th, 20099:41 pm
Chipper looks sick or injured. He looks like he has dropped weight. He has no spark whatsoever. Maybe the slump just has started to get to him, but Chipper is not himself both in performance and in appearance.
OK, this is what Loaf was supposed to do — come up with big hits and drive in big runs like he did throughout his career with the Angels. Let’s see if that’s what happens….
You’d throw punches at a 70 year old man? Easy there, Pedro
Lets go Loaf… payback for last night.
COME ON LOAF!!
Oh yay! A base hit….289…
Hit a home run, Garret.
damn Phillies are about to take the lead in the 10th. Not sure whether to root for the Rockies or Dodgers. Braves need too much help to get into the race and are receiving none of it lately.
Loaf = professional eye
August 26th, 20099:42 pm
Professional sports is just a microcosm of society. Just as in regular society, jobs in sports do not always go to the “most qualified”. Whether it is on the field or in management…….there are issues in play other than “pure talent”. Networking, kissing A$$, P!SSING someone off, personalty conflicts, ego, etc. all come into play when it comes to decisions that management makes, whether front office or field manager.
There is NO LOGICAL REASON, from a performance standpoint, as to why Greg Norton is on the team. He cant play in the field. He cant pinch run. And he cant hit anymore.
Our starting pitching has kept us in the play-off hunt. However, any “serious” chance of the Braves contending was eliminated right before the All-Star Break when Frank Wren decided to activate Greg Norton and send down Gregor Blanco. That move set in motion a series of moves that set the tone for how the team was going to continue being managed.
I know that Frank Wren is in a tough spot. With how shrewd some of his moves have been, I cannot imagine that he wanted to keep Norton on the team. Given his body of work since he became GM of the Braves, I feel that he had to cave in to Bobby’s desire to keep Norton on the team.
Greg Norton is a waste of a roster spot. No sane person can say that Brooks Conrad wouldnt have done better in the second half than Greg Norton. Even though I am not a believer in Kelly Johnson, at least he can “contribute” as a pinch runner, can play in the field (even if he plays a brutal second base), and get the occasional pinch hit. Norton cant contribute at all.
When Kelly was called back up, Greg Norton should have been released. Sending Conrad down was a terrible move.
OK maybe not.
Lowe and KK have both been worth about the same % of their salaries, chilidog (I’m eyeballing the numbers, but it’s close).
LOAF…U AWAKE???? DIDN’T SWING ONCE!
Really, if you think about, being upset is really our own fault. We let ourselves get false hopes about this team. When you look at what the team really is, they’re probably about where they should be (or better).
no wonder they only show up 5K every night at Ted…i wouldn’t pay for this $HIT…watch greg norton fail every single game…and most important this lifeless team…
Or not. Fine, be that way…just stand there…
Kurdt, I think a lot of Braves fans want them to lose just so that they won’t fool us into thinking they have a shot to make the playoffs this year.
taking down the middle. Way to be aggressive. That being said – that reliever looks impressive
I just heard on radio, talk of a Jeff Schulz article with Chipper mentioned how the “grind” has worn him out? LOL! Too funny.
Could’ve fooled me. Chipper’s looked great all season.
Games over folks, say goodnight.
August 26th, 20099:43 pm
Can someone workout a deal for Chipper to get a Barry Bond’s but shot?
I thought it was 3-0.
G** D*** it.
“Let’s see if that’s what happens….”
and what happens is that his bat doesn’t move at all
I hate Thatcher. Dude has to be so hard to hit for lefties.
JJ – welcome back. You missed a great one.
GA = Professional Pansy
August 26th, 20099:44 pm
And he takes a called third strike. Please go home, Loaf.
Meanwhile, Big Papi wraps one around Pesky’s Pole in the bottom of the ninth. Because he’s clutch. And Loaf is not.
BTW, Heidi Watney is still kinda hot.
I don’t get this commercial…why is Leo Mazzone serving drinks? It’s like he’s the butler
Can there be any possible rational, possible explanation why Garrett Anderson is batting IN FRONT of Yunel Escobar?
I just can’t formulate, in my head, a reason why. Under any circumstance, Escobar would be behind GA.
Not only would it break up the lefty-lefty stretch, but Escobar is twice the hitter with runners on base than GA is.
August 26th, 20099:45 pm
Its just so messed up that we went from a 3-0 lead through 5 innings to being down 6-3 in the blink of an eye. This game will drive you mad sometimes.
You take that back JJ! I like Loafy.
Jurrjens4NLCY Why aren’t the Braves winning?
Please don’t ask that question…
When do playoff tixs go on sale?
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
