Jurr – so…you’re just going to work and live on your own in GA for a year while waiting to apply to UGA? There are some good schools in IL you can get started on your degree during that year you’d just be loafing around georgia and then when you finish school you can move wherever you want. You can go to a school in IL far enough away from your hometown that it won’t seem like you’re at home, you know?
August 25th, 20092:30 pm
GO DADDYs!!! A-GON owns the braves pitching!!
So whats the deal with this Latos guy?
August 25th, 20092:31 pm
RHR, No. They will find me.
August 25th, 20092:35 pm
JJ4NLCY, you’re the oppo of my little brother. He wants to move to Chicago and go to school there. Of course his little dream died when he found out about out of state tuition too.
No no–don’t you be hatin’!
Padres will win next year’s world series. And the Braves will not make the playoffs; ever.
"You all are Cox apologists"
August 25th, 20092:36 pm
A SWEEP IS A MUST,
Yes, it is. If the Braves are serious about making the playoffs, then they can’t afford to lose ONE game to the god awful Padres. Chances are the Rockies won’t sweep the Dodgers so if we sweep then we’ll pick up at least one game before the weekend series with the Phillies. Anyone who’s just satisfied with 2 out of 3 against the Padres, you have NO sense of urgency.
I wish I had worked for a couple of years before entering college. I had no business in college at 18.
August 25th, 20092:37 pm
If the Braves are serious about making the playoffs, then they can’t afford to lose ONE game to the god awful Padres.
this is simply not true.
Latos? I don’t really remember much about him except that the Braves lost that and BMac went 0-3…with a sac fly and a K…
August 25th, 20092:38 pm
Abwright,—If your coming off the DL, your elgible yo play.
what is the pitching matchup tonight?
Jurrjens: “What’s the deal with this Latos guy?” Uh, can you be a little more specific than that?
Braves faced him a few weeks ago. Were you not around then? He’s the kid who lost a T (”Mat”) in a a boating accident but has been able to overcome. (OK, that joke worked once, but I shouldn’t have tried again.)
A sweep will be a reality. Just a Padre sweep though.
August 25th, 20092:40 pm
I can’t believe 66% of you think the Braves are going to win the WC. Unbelievable.
Birmingham Braves Fan
I humbly disagree with assuming hte Latos v. Jurrjens pitiching match-up tomight automatically favors the Braves. Consider the last time Latos faced the braaves (on Aug 3):
7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Jurrjens has not faced the Padres this year.
Brief scouting report for the denizens, before I head to the ballpark:
Mat Latos is 0-2 with a 14.09 ERA and .417 opponents’ average in his past two starts, after going 4-0 with a 2.10 ERA and .186 opponents’ average in his previous four. The winning streak included an Aug. 3 game against the Braves when he allowed six hits and two runs in seven innings.
This will be the eighth game (all starts) for the rookie, who was roughed up by the Cardinals and Cubs in his past two games. Adam LaRoche is 1-for-2 with a homer against Latos.
August 25th, 20092:42 pm
Madre Padre–what are you smoking? You’ll win the WS and the Braves “never make the playoffs, ever”? Man, those 14 years must have been nothing but a dream …
Beat you to it DOB, of course, yours has fewer typos. . .

Her voice is like nails to a chalkboard…Mariah on the other hand is a different story….
August 25th, 20092:46 pm
A sweep is a must…?
If and only if they win the first game then we can think about sweep…
I have a feeling the bats will come out cold again as the off day killed our momentum…
Plus the Braves have a bad habit of playing down to the level of their competition…
Makes you wonder where we would be if Cox would be a real coach (instead of a players coach) & taken out schafer, kelly & francoeur (bennett also) earlier in the year. Imagine how many more wins we would have…
Dan Kolb's Mom
Not to invite disaster or impending doom, but we should throttle these clowns tonight. Hell, my Danny could shut down this Padres lineup, and he had an ERA over 6 in an exhibition game against the Care Bears.
August 25th, 20092:48 pm
Y’all don’t start making fun of the Padres lineup or pitching or anything else. I’m not even kidding.
Braves Realist, it’s not what we think the Braves chances are of winning the wildcard, nor are surveys of that nature ever a scientific representation of users who’ve viewed the website, it only represents those who’ve taken the time to vote (who I’m guessing are mostly Bravo fans – so why wouldn’t they think they’d make the postseason?). In fact, I’m going to add my vote to the tally since you mentioned it’s only 66%
How about this time we don’t discuss a sweep? It always starts this way, we talk about how the Braves have to sweep so and so otherwise the season is over. Then, we end up losing the first game and we proclaim the season is over and Bobby Cox messed everything up. Then, we win the next two and we’re riding high again. So, this time we won’t even talk about it.
August 25th, 20092:49 pm
Soph, Problem solved, we just switch places. Where does he want to go?
Nova Scotia Steve
August 25th, 20092:50 pm
Yeah…I’m focused on tonight’s game and we’ll go from there…Can’t wait for it actually…
But yeah opportunity is knocking here…woke up thinking about the Braves today…is that sad?
Actually its a passion and a great pass-time of mine…I love it.
August 25th, 20092:52 pm
Could we have several x-base hits in the 1st tonight just to ease the tension on the old blog? I’m for putting LATOS away and EARLY!!!!
August 25th, 20092:53 pm
Gesh DOB, I miss one game and you try and crucify me, I was wondering if he was another one of those bad players who murder the Braves?
Amen to dat, broda!
August 25th, 20092:54 pm
JJ4NLCY – works for me. I’m sure you can have his room.
I have no idea what actual schools he’s interested in. He’s mentioned UI & UIC though. I have cousins that went to both UIC and NIU. Not sure how far away those are from you.
August 25th, 20092:55 pm
I hope the Braves come out stronger today than they have the last few opening games of series. I think it had become a vicious cycle. Lose the first game of the 3 game series. The 2nd game then becomes must win because if we lose that one then we lose the series. The Braves did a great job of bearing down and taking the game 2’s. Same thing for game 3. Following the 2 hard fought games to win a series I think the Braves relaxed a little when they went to a new series and then started the cycle over
August 25th, 20092:57 pm
One thing that’s still bugging me is that BMac only has 3 um…doubles this month after hitting 13 of them in July. I guess he still has plenty of time to hit 18 more, but I hope he starts up again tonight!
Course, if some of those crazy balls he’s hit lately woulda bounced off the wall instead of going over it…tsk! Honestly…
August 25th, 20092:58 pm
IDIOT, Just what I expected. How is my statement about the Braves being unable to afford ONE loss to the Padres not true? Is losing to the Padres fine, especially when you are on the OUTSIDE of the playoffs looking in? Is it fine losing to the Padres when the Rockies are 50-22 in their last 72 with no signs of letting up? You guys are TOO COMPLACENT and it’s that same attitude that has caused all of the Braves playoff failures. YOU’RE AN IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Y’all don’t start making fun of the Padres lineup or pitching or anything else. I’m not even kidding.

No No No, Don’t you be a Hating!
Geesh…how come my post won’t show up but that one post from Jurrjens4NLCY showed up twice?
August 25th, 20093:02 pm
“A Hating”? A hating what?
I was just messing, anyway…telling you not to be hating on my mann!
August 25th, 20093:04 pm
I was messing too, telling you to not be a hatin me.
lol, perfect then. I’ll make sure to run this by him and you’ll be on your way down. Make sure you start practicing your southern drawl and drinking that sweet tea.
you are all cox applogistsHow is my statement about the Braves being unable to afford ONE loss to the Padres not true?
because you dont have all the information.
if the braves dont sweep the padres, but then go on to win every game vs. the phillies this season, then losing one game against the padres here wont matter that much. you dont know whats going to happen the rest of the season, so the ultimatum the we MUST win all these games is premature.
it is important to win every game, but losing one dont mean we are finished at this point, because again, we dont know what else is going to happen.
IDIOT, we play the Phillies after the Padres, who we just lost a series to. There is NO EXCUSE for the Braves not to sweep the Padres. The Padres are one of the worst teams in baseball. The Rockies are not showing ANY signs of letting up. Don’t you think a sweep would give the Braves momentum going up to Philly for the weekend? Maybe you don’t know that there’s only 38 games left? That’s not a lot of time to make up 4 1/2 games you IDIOT, so the Braves need to start sweeping teams, not just being COMPLETELY satisfied with winning 2 of 3.
August 25th, 20093:06 pm
Ah know it…just feel like causin’ problems, that’s all.
I need some baseball. I’m getting punchy…
August 25th, 20093:07 pm
I’m a master of theatre, I should be fine. And I’ve always LOVED sweet tea, but not grits. Waffle House is good though, nice place to cut off 20 years of one’s life.
August 25th, 20093:08 pm
DAP, I apologize. You’re right. I don’t have all the information. What I can say is, sure it’s possible that we could lose tonight and then go 37-0 the rest of the season, but, you and I both know that won’t happen. I understand your concept now. All I’m saying is we should SWEEP the Padres and I stand by that. Any loss th them is INEXCUSABLE, especially at this point in the season. WE’RE TRYING TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS PEOPLE, and guess what, WE’RE NOT IN YET!!!!!!!!!
August 25th, 20093:09 pm
Well, I live down here and I don’t like grits either so you’ll be okay. AND, you know about Waffle House – you really were born in Georgia, huh? You’re going to fit in nicely.
We Win Today If…?
“O” leads Off
I don’t know what to say about B-Macc Hitting fourth…Since he has come on over the last week I will not lobby for Roachy hitting fourth even though I would like to see them 2 switched ever other game…
And I think we need to keep the trend of being aggressive on the basepaths…It seems our offense hits better when we put pressure on the other team…I like the Idea of Matty-D and KJ trying to steal bases more often
It’s a hella lot better than playing station-2-station baseball and ending games having hit into 2-3 rally killing DP’s…
August 25th, 20093:10 pm
I need some baseball.
Me too! its been 39hrs:45min:51secs since the Braves have played!
August 25th, 20093:12 pm
I can’t believe 66% of you think the Braves are going to win the WC.
Those same people think Martin Prado and Brooks Conrad will lead us. The same MP who is hitting .272 since the All Star break and BC who has hit .269 against minor league pitching all year.
The problem isn’t us talking about the sweep, it’s the Braves NOT taking care of business. The WARNINGS SIGNS of a team that lacks motivation and intensity internally, (Cox’s fault) is a team that play’s DOWN to it’s competition.
August 25th, 20093:13 pm
Legitimate excuses for not sweeping SD:
1. Baseball is a game of inches.
2. 1 stellar pitching performance in the span of 3 games is very likely.
3. Bill Hohn could be on the crew.
4. Game ending triple play with the bases loaded trailing by one.
5. LaRoche could explode.
August 25th, 20093:14 pm
You Are All Cox Apologists…!
Man, Dude You are more more Negative than Me, N8, Mitchell, and Coach combined and that’s saying something…
Can’t you just hang on to your loins or something…?
Were still 4 hours away from gametime…So you think the braves will come out and lay an egg after the off day…?
Plus I thought I was a constant Cox and TP basher…? I have nothing on you, lol
August 25th, 20093:15 pm
Yeah, in Powder Springs… Tell you brother he needs to know what Portillos is… Omg, So Good! And the phrase “Heys! Yous Guys!”, And taking pictures of yourself in the bean is not cool. There is other thing as well…
August 25th, 20093:16 pm
Latos will prevail. His last two games were a fluke. he will return to dominance starting tonight.
August 25th, 20093:17 pm
i think it would be great to sweep the padres. it would be wonderful. but it is simply false to to say we MUST sweep them or else. ultimatums are just silly.
Joe D. loves Marilyn
Like I said @ 10:46PM…last night, Schafer will not be a call-up…as he need’s to get healthy for 2010. He really hurt us for not coming forward sooner…damn…all those strikeouts!
No worries with Rockies / Giants. Still 4 back in the loss column…all that matters. Rockies have Dodgers and @ Giants this week. We have Padres then go to Philly. Really need to sweep Padres and try and get 2 out of 3 this weekend. Somehow.
At least, one way or the other, we should pass the Giants and be only 1 to 2 back of the Rockies by September 1.
August 25th, 20093:21 pm
Who wants to argue with these predictions:
Wild Card: No F******g clue.
NL Champs: Cardinals
August 25th, 20093:22 pm
I think the Cardinals are the WS Champions, they were my pick at ST and I’m sticking with them…
August 25th, 20093:23 pm
Got it. I’ll give him a crash course before he leaves. Portillos looks gooooooood by the way.
Can you read? I never said SWEEP or else, just SWEEP, nothing else. I can say this though, If all the Braves players adopt your philosophy, we DEFINITELY won’t make the PLAYOFFS.
Name one negative thing I stated that’s not true?
Geesh, what a bunch of wussies!
August 25th, 20093:24 pm
ultimatums are just silly.
Especially that Bourne one, there is 6 hours of my life I’ll never get back
I agree with your logic about “why trade Lowe when you just traded to get him,” or something to that effect to a point. But, you carry that same logic across the board and you don’t trade Vasquez or KK either. That leaves not picking up Huddy’s option. Is that what you are saying?
August 25th, 20093:25 pm
Minor elbow surgery for Johan.
Urgency. Urgency! Braves need to win the next 38 games in a row, never mind taking the Padres series. We simply can’t compete for a post season berth if we lose even… one game! Nope. 37-1 won’t do the trick. Gotta win EVERY game. The Rockies and Dodgers, they’re supermen. Supermen, I tell you! How are we going to overtake supermen?
civilized white trash
August 25th, 20093:26 pm
i am confused who do i want to win the rockies/dodgers series
August 25th, 20093:29 pm
Don’t blame the kid for trying to play through pain. Every day on this blog some criticizes Chipper if he sits out a game because of some nagging injury. He’s a “wuss.” Then if he goes 0-22 because he is playing hurt then he’s “scum,” “he’s killing the team.” Make up your mind!
Jurrjens4NLCY Me too! its been 39hrs:45min:51secs since the Braves have played!
Is that all? Dang…feels like forever!
Need some payback tonight ‘cuz Latos OWNED us in SD.
RHR is right…..don’t be funnin’ the Pods, it’ll come back to bite us on da hiney!
August 25th, 20093:33 pm
Arrggggggg Longest Day EVER
You guys are the shining example of the ILLITERACY in GEORGIA. I’m being accused of things I wrote when I never stated such a thing. GUYS, let’s try this again. I NEVER said that if the Braves don’t sweep, we won’t make the playoffs. What I DID say was that the Rockies have won 50 of 72 and are showing NO signs of letting up, in which, the Braves cannot afford losing to teams when they clearly should SWEEP them. The same COMPLACENT approach you and that IDIOT Cox take are the reason why this team can never seem to reach their peak. Maybe if it were May, we could be satisfied with 2 of 3. There are only 38 games left PEOPLE!! We cannot afford to bE patient, we have to BE PROACTIVE, FEROCIOUS, TENACIOUS, and TEDIOUSLY good to make the playoofs. TIME IS NOT ON OUR SIDE!!!
Snyder the Architect
August 25th, 20093:35 pm
Steve from OH…I have to say that I think Sheehan is way off here…Dealing Jurrjens? I would have to think that is very, very, unlikely…Jair is 23 years old, already has 26 wins in the big leagues (and winning % near .600), has a sub 3.00 ERA putting him in the Top 10 in the NL, is very advanced for such a young pitcher in terms of command of fastball and multiple secondary pitches and ability to use in any count, and he’s very cost controlled for the next few years…
This is one of the future building blocks for our rotation (obviously along with Hanson)…so if a starter is going to be moved, I think we’ll clearly be looking at one of the significantly larger near expiring contracts…to where we could apply the current salary impact to a corner (OF or 1B) bat…
You Are All Cox Apologists
Well son…I have to somewhat agree. If we come out flat and don’t take 2 of 3 from the AAA Padres then All Hell is gonna break lose on the blog
I ready for that Philly series…I got Clowned on their Forum when I was banking on the Braves taking 2 of 3 in Atlanta 2 weeks ago since All our momentum was lost in the off day that preceeded that series. We need to make up for that cause if we come out Flat in Philly they have the rotation and team that is capable of finishing us off…
Now I’m off to watching old “Martin” and She-neh-neh on Youtube
August 25th, 20093:36 pm
They can deliver to all 50 states. I once ordered one for a friend on her birthday in GA. I feel so privileged to have one 30min away.
DOB – Have you seen the trailer for the new movie “It might get loud” with Jimmy Page, Jack White, and the edge? Seems right up your alley.
Also, any idea or guess when Bobby’s loyalty will run out with Norton?
August 25th, 20093:39 pm
New 2009 Braves slogan:
Lets See 38 games left…
I’m calling that the braves go 24-14 “Bank On It” And D.O.B. You can call me out on it at the end of the season because you can bet you bottom dollar that I’m gonna do an end of the year assessment on your predictions that you had in S. Training…I still remember that you had the Mets finishing 1st and the Phillies and Braves battling a 1 game playoff for the W.C….Wonder how that went…? However I think every fan who knew the Phillies coming out of S. Training thought their Starting pitching was gonna be their weakness, and I think everyfan was wrong in that regard…
All in good talk however…
August 25th, 20093:40 pm
you are all cox apologistsCan you read? I never said SWEEP or else
yeah, i can read. heres exactly what you said:
if they dont lose a game thats called a sweep right? and you said if they are serious about making the playoffs they cant lose a game, right? so what you said is absolutely false. give it up, your wrong.
every game is important to the braves from here on out, but they wont be eliminated if they lose tonight.
August 25th, 20093:42 pm
I remember trying to mail order Giordano’s Deep Dish pizza last year. I was so excited until I saw shipping was like 40 bucks.
The way the Rockies are playing, it may take 38-0 just to make it. If the Rockies go 34-3, that’s what it would take. They did win like 23 straight the year they went to the WS against the Red Sox, so why you’re trying to be sarcastic, you really look dumb.
August 25th, 20093:43 pm
i dont think i would agree that he is a mediocre minor league player (DAP)
the guy has hit .230 something in his last 1500 AAA ABs after 8-9 MiLB experience. He doesn’t even make it as high as mediocre, and that’s hitting, he is an atrocious defender. We got the best 34 ABs of his live.
August 25th, 20093:46 pm
Her voice is like nails to a chalkboard…Mariah on the other hand is a different story…. Tomahawkin
Please tell me you’re kidding, at least about the Mariah part.
August 25th, 20093:47 pm
Oooh They’re good too. Yep, I’m going to miss Chicago. Well, I’m all pack, tell your brother to meet me at union station.
No Braves lineup yet, probably because too many question marks. Going downstairs. I’ll get it to you when I get back.
Again, if the Braves are serious about making the playoffs, we cannot afford to lose to the Padres. That doesn’t mean if we lose, we won’t make it. All it means is that each loss is making it more difficult to make the playoffs.
You can say “I can’t afford to lease a car”, but if you lease it, it doesn’t necessarily mean you will go bankrupt, it just means you will have a difficult time paying for it.
August 25th, 20093:49 pm
Johan is out for the season – Omg! What the hell?
August 25th, 20093:50 pm
Mets should just forfeit the rest of their games, what the hell is the point
August 25th, 20093:51 pm
LOL at 3:46, D.O.B.
No I’m Serious on the Mariah Part…! That old Mariah Still Go Hard! That stuff is like poetry, Too bad her taste in men is distorted…But then again most divas have a distorted taste in men…
You can’t argue that old old Mariah is Dope…!
August 25th, 20093:53 pm
Will do JJ. Um, but he does have to finish his senior year of high school so we might have to put this off for a year or so. Unless you want to go to Ghettocreek, of course.
August 25th, 20093:54 pm
So are the Mets going to finish the season with any of the position players and starting pitchers they had at the beginning of the season? I feel a little bad for them. But only a little.
Tomahawkin – You can’t argue that old old Mariah is Dope…!
Unless your on dope.
August 25th, 20093:55 pm
We first heard about Shafer’s wrist injury not long after he went to the minors in early June. At the time, didn’t he said the injury did not affect his swing and did not contribute to his struggles at the plate?
Now, in the article Carroll wrote he says: “When I look back on it, I feel bad because maybe I hurt the team because I tried to play with it not being 100 percent,”
Was he lying before? Do this make him look like a untruthful player? Add this on top of his claim that he was suspended for hanging out with the wrong crowd.
August 25th, 20093:56 pm
noliethe guy has hit .230 something in his last 1500 AAA ABs after 8-9 MiLB experience. He doesn’t even make it as high as mediocre, and that’s hitting, he is an atrocious defender. We got the best 34 ABs of his live.
i dont think so. he had a bad year in AAA thrown in there, but his overall number in AAA are a .252 avg and a .807OPS, which isnt mediocre. he is what he is…low average, low, OBP, good power. best 34 ABs of his life? maybe, but his numbers in 34 ABs in atlanta were super-star-ish, so thats understandable.
Mariah ain’t got jack on McFann……I’ve seen pics.
Steve from OH
August 25th, 20093:57 pm
I don’t think we should get rid of JJ either, just posting the question/answer. I agree with Sheehan that JJ is not as good as he’s perceieved to be (his peripherals suggest he’s about a 3.50 ERA kinda guy). I’d be interested to know what his K/9 and BB/9 have been since the ASB and since, say…June 1. DOB, can you give us a hand on that?
