LA does have Kershaw going tomorrow and LA will not have to face Marquis, Cook (DL), or Jimenez….. LA has a pitching advantage in all three of these games. Still gotta root for them right now.

Alonso, Yep. I can see the Rockies winning the West…. They are the master of winning streaks. And they have like 66% of the rest of their games at home… Looking at our schedule, we don’t have any games left in the west (except Padres). That hurts. If we can post winning records against Phillies and Marlins, we could take the division.

Heath

It’s strictly numbers based, kid. The Giants still have a .5 game lead over the Braves. Once the Braves pass the Giants (this series, I suspect), the numbers will change drastically in favor of the Braves.

While a sweep by the Dodgers would be nice, a 2-1 series win by the Dodgers and a 3-0 series win by the Braves won’t be all that bad either….would close the gap to 2.5. And, I suspect that would put the Braves in 2nd in the WC too…. big week.

The Mets are a huge mess.

NY Post humor: It’s time to perform a Citi Field exorcism or at least discover where the Chipper Jones jersey is buried. The Mets have been jinxed almost from the moment they arrived in this new ballpark, and now could be staring at their worst setback yet.

Not really. They lack common sense….

WFAN added that Santana has been dealing with a sore back, not throwing between starts, and has seen a drop in his velocity. It’s possible that Santana altered his motion to compensate for the sore back, causing the elbow issue, but more will be known following the exam

“He has been pitching [with pain] probably since the [All-Star] break, but not with the level of discomfort he has now,” Manuel said after the Mets’ 6-2 loss to Philadelphia. “I know now that it concerns him.”

What a joke, their season was already toast and they used Santana while Manuel knew he was hurt! You would figure they learn from the other injuries..They better hope it’s not Tommy John or someone will be in a vvvery big trouble.

Big date with Doctor is later today!! Stay tuned.

Good read DOB. I think it will be the Dodgers we have to catch and with a little luck and alot of good baseball I think we can do it. Need to beat up on the Mets, Nats, Padres etc though. I like The Braves chances to reach playoffs but I don’t believe we will unless Chipper begin to hit like he has done in the past.If he was hitting like Chipper and the other guys continue to produce as they have this year I think this Team could be dangerous down the stretch and in postseason.Chip we need you to play like the 15million that you are being paid.We need you to be like Albert,Howard, and that shortstop that plays for Fla.I know he is hurt, but we need Hoss to get going.

The top of the line-up is decimated. McLOUTH’s hammy, PRADO’s mystery headaches, and CHIP’s oblique are all out or playing hurt. INFANTE’s been good leading off thank goodness, KELLY not so with his on again, off a lot performance, but we’re limping along. If I say a must win, it’s now. We practically have to sweep to gain any ground on whomever. And don’t be dismissive of fellow alum TIM STAUFFER. Despite mixed results lately, he will be competative in this upcoming game. In two life-time starts against ATLANTA, he’s averaged six innings and three runs. Remember we need four runs from the offense per game to be really effective, so BRAVOS be on your best offensive behavior. I’m sure KK will be ready to play, I just hope the offense is as well.

The recipe is actually quite simple. If Cox really wants to spend his October off of his property he will:

1. Release Norton. Yesterday.
2. Let Medlen start, put Lowe in long relief.
3. Hide Kelly Johnson’s glove and bat. Under lock and key.
4. Call up Heyward, for late inning defensive purposes at the very least.
5. Call up Brooks Conrad. LIke Diaz, he makes things happen.
6. Switch Chipper and Escobar in the lineup (3 and 6 holes).

So, if COL sweeps LAD, both teams will be tied for first in the NL West. Unreal.

Braves are now tied for second in the loss column in the WC standings.

I realize that it appears that the Braves have lost ground to the Phillies, but, they have been 8 back in the loss column for a while. That kind of means that they are really 8 back, rather than 7. So, even though it appears that things are getting worse in the division race, they were really this bad to begin with.

Hopefully Pittsburgh is motivated to get out of the cellar in the Central and give the Phils a whupping. I’m not holding my breath …

Braves just need to keep playing good baseball, and the races will work out.

I watched a little of the SF/COL series, and I cannot believe that the Giants are considered a playoff caliber team. Talk about AWFense.

I sure wish that Prado would get back. Maybe the Braves can give Chipper a day off or two to get right, before the Phils series.

While Random still thinks we will win the East I am going to go ahead and give it to the Phillies by a large margin. We are losing ground when we don’t play as DOB commented. We are taking 2 of every 3 and losing ground. I commented last blog that while that indeed is good baseball it simply won’t be enough in either the WC or division. Must start sweeping a couple of teams and San Diego is almost a must sweep situation.

I disagree on wanting Colorado to go ahead of LA. Why do we want to bring another team into the WC fray? Better for LA to win as they are playing a lot of games against Colorado and San Fran and will push Colorado back some. Not saying that will happen though. Like Colorado alot actually but as it relates to the Braves chances it is better for LA to put the West away.

It would totally shock me if Heyward was not brought up on Sept. 1st along with Conrad (a given) and Canizares. Would you keep a lethal weapon bat like that out of an expanded roster when you have actually had close to zero production from the guys you have been bringing off the bench all year (save Conrad)? I rest my case, especially when we are in the thick of the WC and bench play will be crucial. Heyward doesn’t need to be Superman just simply give us another HR threat in a crucial time. He can continue to develop in the AFL and ST before being our opening day RF in 2010.
