I’ve got a gripe. You may not be able to resolve it, but here goes:
You and CR often mention your AJC contributions other than this blog — eg, “Game Stories”, “Braves Notes”, “Scout Boxes”, “Q&As”, other interviews, other stories, etc.
However, the AJC Braves page does not specifically identify any of these different types of articles — all it gives us is “Latest Atlanta Braves headlines”.
Those currently include the following »
• Top Braves prospects to join Arizona Fall League
• McCann leads Braves
• Hudson has solid outing
• Prado back Tuesday?
• Baseball, ADHD link two Braves
I wish the AJC would better identify Braves online articles. (And eliminate duplicate links to the same article.)

I did a Q&A with LaRoche, and it’s still not posted on our site, so I thought I’d go ahead and put it here until it shows up on the site. Wait till you see his response when I asked about Freddie Freeman. Classic LaRoche.
First baseman Adam LaRoche has wielded a scorching bat since being traded to the Braves from Boston, hitting .406 with seven home runs, 16 RBIs, and a .500 on-base percentage in 20 games. He was traded from Pittsburgh to Boston on July 22 for two prospects, then traded again to the Braves on July 31 for first baseman Casey Kotchman.
LaRoche, 29, came up in the Braves organization and played his first three seasons for Atlanta through 2006. In a Sunday conversation with David O’Brien, the Journal-Constitution’s Braves beat writer, LaRoche discussed several topics including his success since returning to the Braves, and his pending free agency.
Q. How’s the experience been for you since being traded back to Atlanta?
A. It feels like I never really left. Even though it had been close to three years [since he was traded by the Braves to Pittsburgh], I felt comfortable coming back to a clubhouse that I’m familiar with, guys I came up playing with. And the city here, for my family, my kids, it’s been an easy transition.
Q. You’re borrowing [Red Sox pitcher] Jon Lester’s house near Peachtree City to live for the rest of the season. How’s that working out?
A. It’s been great. I caught about a 3-1/2-pounder [bass] this morning.
Q. You started hitting well just before you were traded from Pittsburgh to Boston, and haven’t cooled off [LaRoche has hit .375 with eight homers and 20 RBIs for three teams since July 20]. Are you surprised you were able to maintain that despite being traded twice and bouncing between leagues?
A. No, because I went to Boston and Tito [Red Sox manager Terry Francona] called me in his office the first day, and it was the most comfortable meeting I ever had with a manager. He said, ‘Hey, go have a blast. Do what you do.’ And I got that from the whole team – it’s pretty easy to succeed over there, so I was able to step in and be pretty comfortable right away. And then obviously it’s the same thing coming back here. I know what they expect here. I didn’t feel like I had to impress anybody.
Q. What’s it like going through a stretch like you’re in now, where you’re hitting everything hard and also not hitting a lot of balls at people?
A. It’s a different feeling not hitting it at people. Because for most of my career, somehow I find a way to hit it right at somebody. So it’s nice to find some holes. I’m not physically doing anything different. You know, they happen to fall. It’s a shame, but it comes and goes. It’s how baseball is.
Q. Have you thought much about the disparity between your hitting stats before and after All-Star breaks? [LaRoche has a .302 career average and .920 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) after the break, and a .252 average and .773 OPS before the break.] Or do you just sort of say, “It is what it is?”
A. That’s exactly what I say – it is what it is. I fought it the first couple of years, trying to figure out what it is, what I could do to fix it. But anymore, I prepare myself in spring training and before spring training, and I don’t know if there’s a lot more I can do. So I just kind of roll with it now.
Q. This will be your first time going to free agency. Have you thought about what you want, about location or years and dollars? Or is the market changing so much each winter that you can’t even think too much this soon about those kinds of things?
A. I can think about where I’d like to end up, where I’d like to play. As far as money and years, there’s no telling until the season’s over and you see what the market is. Really, every year I’ve been in this boat, as far as not having a long-term deal and having to renegotiate. And every year I’ve played it the same way – wait until the last game’s over, give it a couple of months, and then start thinking about it.
Q. But aren’t you looking forward to maybe not having to go year-to-year this time, possibly getting some security with a multi-year deal, at least two or three years?
A. I definitely wouldn’t be opposed to listening to a long-term offer. It’d be nice to settle my family in somewhere. But I can’t complain; we’ve had pretty good luck going year to year.
Q. Have you thought about the Braves being a possibility? Or do you look at their situation, with [Freddie] Freeman coming up, and think that it’s maybe not more than a year before he gets here? Or have you even thought about it like that?
A. To be honest, I don’t even know who Freeman is. I take it he’s a first baseman coming up? [Freeman is a first-base prospect, currently in Class AA.] No, I haven’t. That’s completely up to them. I’m sure they’ll know this winter, whether they want me back for a year, for five years, or not at all. Again, I like it here. But that really doesn’t mean anything with what we do. A few things have got to fall into place, and that’s kind of up to them.
Q. One last question: How many acres do you own in Kansas and Missouri, and how much of a passion is that, your hunting and ranching in the offseason? Is it as important to you as baseball?
A. Oh, absolutely. I mean, that’s my life out there on the ranch, having my family out there. We’ve got about 3,600 acres now. We run some cattle on it. Most of it’s used for deer hunting. It’s right on the state line. We built our house on it, and we’ve got a lodge on it now, so when these guys [Chipper Jones, Ryan Langerhans and others in their Buck Commander hunting company] come out they’ve got a place to stay. It’s basically like a hotel. We’ve got company there all winter, and we love it.

The only thing you probably didn’t know is that two MIT guys run that site and they claim to be accurate to within 2%.
I believe it. I ran my own regression analysis tests (I am fairly well versed in statistics) and the numbers make sense. Even if you don’t get that sophisticated with your analysis, you see there is a lot of merit to what the numbers say. You can do something as simple as take the actual record and expected record….take the difference, and divide by the total number of games played….you’ll see an average of 2% inaccuracy is about right.

How can you not like LaRoche? Bet he like the DBT’s too.
And as nice as it is to project Freeman at 1B, LaRoche for 2 years – maybe 3 should be the call. I mean there’s no way Freeman puts up LaRoche-type numbers the next 2 years. If we don’t add a proven bat for LF, then you have to keep LaRoche at 1B. Can’t afford the drop off.

You know, it’ll be interesting later – maybe after the season, because I’d hate to jinx anything – to sit down and look at the stats LaRoche has put up post-trade and compare them to the numbers that Teixeira put up after his trade to ATL through the end of ‘07. I’m only guessing, but they might look a *little* similar. Then when you throw in a pound for pound factor…

I watched Barry Zito pitch for the Oakland A’s for 6 years before he left to sign that huge contract with the Giants. There were times where he looked virtually unhittable when he was pitching for the A’s.
However, he’s looked like a totally different pitcher since he signed with the Giants. Even on a night like tonight, where he is up 1-0 in the bottom of the 5th, he doesnt look like he’s been dominating. He looks like he is a pitcher who is waiting to give up a big inning.
No injury. Dude just went from being an elite pitcher…….to being the pitcher’s version of Jeff Francoeur.

Speaking of girlfriends, I have a funny story.
A while ago my girlfriend wanted to break up with me because I didn’t spend time with her (I was watching Braves games). So I decided we could watch them together, right? The game we watch was the first game of the Florida series (the one before the Dodger series). So MFIKY gave up that walk off homer. I felt like sheet right. And she goes, “OH! Thats bad right?” I almost died. We have not seen each other since…. So I decided I can only date non Braves fans from November to March.

Following up on the Smoltz tipping pitches thing….
Anyone else notice Lowe maybe tipping pitches? I kind of notice some differences in his delivery. On some pitches he looks normal but on some he seems to be dropping or elongating his arm angle or release point. Maybe not tipping but I have seen something there.

I was on a first date to a Braves game last summer (after we traded Tex) and Greg Norton was batting somewhere in the middle of the lineup. I immediately get angry and say something like “Bobby has NO idea what he’s doing. He always does stupid stuff like this.”

38 games to go and I would not wait any longer…bring the Heyward kid up now (how many games were left when we called up Andruw Jones and how well did he produce? Made it to the World Series!); but, Greg Norton, he has got to go. Now! Don’t believe he has had one clutch hit in 2009. I know…Heyward is more than likely not 100% ready…but he gives us more options than we have now. On August 31…Nate McClouth is back and on September 1…bring up the rest of the calvary! I like our chances for Wild Card…National League – East, not so much. Phillies too tough…do not see them folding liking the Met’s of 2007 & 2008.
And if he is really healthy (?), I would let Hudson take Lowe’s spot in the rotation…let Lowe get his arm healthy by pitching long relief. I think he has a dead arm right now…and he would have too many starts left (maybe seven) that if he is off…could really cost us!
Make no mistake, we are in a battle! One that we can win..however with being 8 back of the Phillies tonight (loss column is all that matters!!!), the Wild Card is better than 50/50…in my opinion…

Fish Tacos the best at Baby A’s in Austin and then a purple margarita. But you better be walking, cause you sure can’t drive. Then the best music anywhere in the States.

I have only had Fish Tacos in San Diego…only place I have ever seen them. I had them at Jake’s in Del Mar…loved ‘em, and always went there to get them afterwards.

Well FoxSS has the game tomorrow and it’s in Atlanta. Boog is in Los Angeles. I’m thinking we might see Ron Gant or (gulp) Brian Jordan tomorrow
