The good thing we did in the offseason is set a bench that is as deep than any MLB club outside of the top spenders.

Yep.

Good move by Bobby.

He gets my approval on that. He should be so lucky.

The Braves need to get school kids more involved somehow. That, of course, is where future large turnouts lie.

By the way… you play for 1 run here because it is late in the game and you effectively only have 1 guy on the bench if you do not want to use the back-up catcher.

I’m a fan of that call. A 5-3 game looks MUCH better than a 4-3 game, especially with these Braves.

Good move by Bobby to have Javy bunt? Of course, it just overrided a stupid move to put Norton in.

Paul Lentz

I’m surprised that more teams dont use a pitcher to pinch bunt. I can still remember that Chicago game in Chicago when Diaz was in a 13 for 26 stretch……..and Bobby used him as a pinch hitter to bunt. He popped up and failed to sacrifice. That was the game that Bobby started Francoeur after benching him for a few games so he could “give him some at-bats”, even though Diaz was absolutely raking at the plate.

If I’m correct, Francoeur was traded 2 days later.

Regardless, since pitchers working on bunting more than position players do, it makes perfect sense to use pitchers to pinch bunt more often.

Bobby using Javy in that situation is a perfect example of why you might think more starting pitchers would be used to sacrifice. Javy has failed at that, what, once or twice all year? Seems that way anyway.
