Well, if McCann’s recent performance is any indication (especially against lefties), it seems that Bobby’s credo is that cleanup hitters are supposed to suck.
CrimeDog: I’ve asked myself that same question (8:46). I mean, I’m paid to be here. You and so many others like you obviously love watching the team, on a Saturday night or any other time. But what of those you’re referring to? I don’t get it.
The Braves were also without Brian McCann during Saturday night’s game. Braves manager Bobby Cox gave McCann the opportunity to choose whether he wanted to have his day off on Saturday or Sunday.
Considering that the Marlins are starting Ricky Nolasco on Sunday, McCann may have made the right choice. The All-Star catcher has seven hits, including two doubles and two homers, in 22 career at-bats against Nolasco. But he’s just 1-for-8 in his career against Chris Volstad, who started Saturday’s game for the Marlins.
The Marlins announcers said that Heyward and Freeman would bring the power the Braves need (here’s the bad part) when they get here next year or the year after. NO, not this year.
Nice walk by Diaz. I’m hoping that Bobby does keep in Hanson. He rebounded nicely in the 6th. Plus he’s only at 78 pitches.
If Hanson’s spot in the order wasnt coming up next inning, I’d go as far as to say that if Hanson had a short pitch top of the 7th………I’d have Hanson come out for the 8th as well, given how well he has pitched tonight (with the exception of the 5th).
DOB – hope I don’t get O’Burned on this question, but are you a fan of the Braves? Or do you stay impartial?
I know you used to cover the Marlins, and I don’t think you have many Atlanta ties in your past (sorry if I’m wrong on that). So is this just a job for you, and if the Braves happen to win, then good for them? Or do you root for them?
CAB – I didn’t say I hate TV screamers. I said I hate watching games with TV screamers. But it seems like about 80% of football fans are screamers, so I guess I’ve gotten used to it.
I’m sure it’s been addressed before, but I have to ask because I’m curious. If it’s not that long of an explanation, why are you a Braves fan? I figured you just used to live here or something (or a non-sports city and watched TBS growing up), but now you say you’re a 49ers fan, which tells me maybe you’ve been in California awhile? haha, just curious.
To bad Tommy H. aint getting the corner like the old Tommy G. used to. Otherwise I think the kid is pitching his but off. Just need some runs now. Nothing since the 1st inning…yuck!
I’d be willing to bet money that during the run through the 90’s if the internet was at everybody’s fingertips people would be venting their butts off over every loss.
That damn Hermida doesn’t hit anywhere but in Atlanta. PHUCK! see…
I have lived in LA all my life- grew up a dodger fan. Back in 1991 (I was 12) the dodgers blew a big division lead and I decided they didn’t deserve me as a fan (I was 12)- the Braves happened to be the team that won the division that year and I have been a fan ever since…longer then I was ever a Dodger fan actually. I have been a 49ers fan my entire life…
My biggest beef with football screamers is the unknowledgable female fans yelling “GET HIM!” when an opposing player breaks through for a big gain. Like the safety’s going “oh, RIGHT! Thanks Row 4, Seat A!”
jeffrey d: I’m a beat writer, thus not a “fan” of the team I cover, nor any baseball team. Cant’ be, in my view. I’m a fan of the Kansas Jayhawks. And the Celtics (loved Larry Bird, and they’ve had Paul Pierce from KU for a lot of years).
I assure you I know what I am talking about…been following football since I could read. (and I totally agree about the unknowledgable female fans…drives me CRAZY)
CAB – wow….that story is beautiful. They need to interview you for those cheesy “This is my team” commercials on FoxSS as they have that orchestral music playing in the background.

Just one rough inning. These last six outs are going to be a beeyatch, though. It’d be nice to maybe get just one more run. Maybe? Just one?
