The braves didn’t lose games in the 90’s in games in which they scored 3 runs or less with the frequency that they lose games like that over the last 3 years…
Well I’ll make an exception we lost in the playoffs when we failed to score over 3 runs
Esco…..you will get stretches but crazy how the numbers work out. Trust me the Braves aren’t working on improving their record when scoring three runs. They are working on scoring more than 6….constantly.
Good call Tomahawkin, I too would like to see the Braves be more aggressive on the basepaths. Not stupidly aggressive, but it is nice to see some steals early on.
UNC Brave – Thanks for the Heyward update…great to see a big RBI extra base hit in his first AB tonight…I bet he’s ready to break out of this small mini slide…
Also great to see Hanson’s velocity back in the 93-94 range tonight…
Rock On- Look our offence needs to step it up. Our pitching has been as good as anyones in MLB. We are no consitant and its horrible to watch because this lineup when healthy could do nasty things to pitchers.
I think the braves best offense comes in games where they make things happen on the basepaths…
Notice that there hasn’t been a DP yet…If we were playing station to station there would’ve probably been 2 DP’s already…
I don’t know why we don’t play like this against the Phillies. Usually those close games with them are won on the basepaths and they usually get the upperhand because Bobby plays station 2 station and tries to out slug their Juggernaut offense
Good turn by Kelly on the DP to get Ramirez at 1st base.
This just in…everyone (obviously not on this blog) but in general that was crowning J.A. Happ for ROY can chill. Tommy Hanson looks like the REAL ROY right now. Guy has a shot to win double digit games and wasn’t called up until JULY.
FLA SUN broadcase showed that he KJ missed him. Smart to throw to 2B just in case because you just don’t know if the umpire is going to make the call. Good job turning the double play on the next play. Tommy looking good tonight.
Did anyone notice the Braves’ three-run curse finally ended in that Kawakami game? They won 3-2, their first win in games this season when they scored three runs.
They lost 5-3 last night, making them 1-11 in such games.
Jair couldn’t hold runners at all during last year as well. Doesn’t speak well for the future Braves Aces but it’s something one can work and learn how to do better. Or you can simply go the Greg Maddux route and be that darn good to where it doesn’t matter most of the time if they steal a base b/c you get the guy at the plate out.
gdubber- Happ has pitched for them since the close to the begining of the season I think. Plus his ERA is lower then Hanson’s. He also came up at in September for them last year I think it really helped his progression.
I think the first out he made was on a hit-n-run….I wonder if he was getting any help from the 3rd base coach yelling at him to go back (could be hard to find the ball…I can give him that). The second one, however, he was guessing and guessed wrong.
Question Part 2: Which is Diaz worse at: baserunning (on display tonight) or defense – as in cannot make a running in catch of any ball knee high or lower (usually blames the lights)?
Darn, only 17th starts for Happ? Just 3 more…I thought it was a lot more than that, well still all things considered, I think Tommy if he keeps this up should be ROY.
Or you can simply go the Greg Maddux route and be that darn good to where it doesn’t matter most of the time if they steal a base b/c you get the guy at the plate out.
What if there’d been some games pitched by Greg Maddux and caught by McCann? They’d have guys running all over the place!
Best stats will ultimately win the award. Voters won’t differentiate between number of starts, relief appearences…best record, lowest era, most strike outs.
