Hurricane Bill headed to Mass. Last Monday they said it was coming to the Florida Keys on Thurs. I think they pick where they predict it will hit by playing Pin the Tail on the Donkey at Happy Hour.
I love the line up and Immmmm back!
August 22nd, 20095:06 pm
Got a point there, but, Ill correct you in some way. Infante is an excellent fielder. Smooth he is. He might have lost a step while being out. he has only played like 4 games since may…….give him a break. I have also noticed he is not the same with the bat since he has been back, but he is at the same level as martin with the bat, he knows how to find the gaps, use the lines, some power, etc, excellent contact hitter. I would have to say this guy is clearly ice cold, and I think thats why bobby is making him play everyday, he might have sensed the same thing. You will notice the difference by midweek next week.
Oh, Rocky cool it. Angel started it and Sgt. Becker gave me the OK”"
Y’all ever heard of Jason Becker, the guitarist? He was like the guitar prodigy extraordinaire, an absolutely amazing talent. At 19 he signed-on as David Lee Roth’s lead guitarist. They cut one disc together before he was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He had to use super-slinky strings to finish disk because fingers were already so weakened. He now composes music by blowing into a computer-powered tube device.
This was recorded in the late 80’s at The Atlanta Institute Of Music. It’s a short piece he played during an hour-and-a-half seminar. Really amazing. He played utilizing the “shred” style.

Does anyone knows how many GB were the braves in the WCR 30 days ago?
NO MORE COX OR CHIPPER!
August 22nd, 20095:13 pm
WORST LINEUP EVER!
August 22nd, 20095:14 pm
Never mind, I just checked………..we were 3GB the leader on july the 22nd………..so we have lost a game in the standings……..unreal.
August 22nd, 20095:15 pm
BTW………we were 4 GB in the WC race on june 22nd…………so we have done nothing but keep pace in the last 60 days………….LOL……….A M A Z I N G
August 22nd, 20095:17 pm
In the same span braves have gained 11.5 games on the redsox…………..talk about not wasting time.
August 22nd, 20095:23 pm
I HAVE FOUND THE SOLUTION!!!
Move Brian McCann to first base, LaRoche to third, Chipper to left, Vasquez will catch, turn Escobar into a 100mph fireballer! Sign Scott Thorman, Keith Lockhart, and Steve Sisco to what they think are minor league contracts, tell them we need them for a G-Braves playoff push. Then we offer Anderson, Thorman, Lockheart, Sisco, and Lowe to the baseball gods.
So we look like this:
1. McLouth CF
2. Church RF
3. Chipper LF
4. McCann 1B
5. Walt Weiss SS
6. LaRoche 3B
7. Vasquez C
8. Infante 2B
5. Ligtenberg (Kerry)
That way we’ll win the World Series AND get ESPN coverage.
August 22nd, 20095:25 pm
Is McCann injured? He usually misses the DGANG’s and that would have given him two days off in a row if he had sat tomorrow.
So Boog is calling the BoSox-Yanks game, better get a haz-mat team on him before he’s allowed back in Turner Field…
August 22nd, 20095:27 pm
Damn, if only we had the Little Leaguers playing for the Braves, they hit homers like lil mofos!
August 22nd, 20095:29 pm
we were 4 GB in the WC race on june 22nd…………so we have done nothing but keep pace in the last 60 days
I prefer to think of it as “We have kept ourselves in the WC race for the past 60 games”
Its easier and sounds better…
August 22nd, 20095:30 pm
Bobby’s given him NGBDG off before (did it in LA), but yeah, it’s kind of odd.
Escobar for Supreme Court
Jurrjens4NLCY- I like it but I think Escobar could throw 110
chris from md
Is Church hurt or just getting the night off?
I wouldn’t mind seeing Escobar back in the two hole to see if that jump starts him, especially with Prado out. Glad to see him at least hitting 5th. I understand the logic and the results with dropping him down in the order. But I’d much rather see him hit 2nd than 6th which he does sometimes.

Doc Holiday (August 22nd, 2009 5:12 pm): “Does anyone knows how many GB were the braves in the WCR 30 days ago?”
mlb.com’s “Standings” page can be set to any date in the season.
As of games thru 22 Jul 09, COL led WC, SF was 1 game back, and ATL/CHI/HOU were all 3 games back. FFL — 3.5, MIL — 4.
Doc Holiday (August 22nd, 2009 5:15 pm): “BTW………we were 4 GB in the WC race on june 22nd…………so we have done nothing but keep pace in the last 60 days………….LOL……….A M A Z I N G”
Now, don’t be Negative Nellie — a very big difference is, on 22 Jun there were 8 teams ahead of or tied with us. Today there’s only 3.
(tick tack tick tack)

Doc, it’s called treading water, though we’ve taken-on a tad…
Reid in EAV
August 22nd, 20095:31 pm
Who was freaking out over LaRoche being at clean-up? C’mon. I would have seriously questioned that when he first joined the team, but you can’t deny that right now, the dude is locked-in and RAKING. Even with the rest of the lineup healthy, he might be the very best choice right now.
August 22nd, 20095:32 pm
Is someone on here actually saying that Anderson is still a very good player, or did the blog eat his post 6 years ago and it just got spit out?
August 22nd, 20095:33 pm
Gorecki is actually a pretty good CF.
August 22nd, 20095:34 pm
Reid in EAV–
Actually, people were freaking out when LaRoche wasn’t batting cleanup.
August 22nd, 20095:37 pm
Random (August 22nd, 2009 5:30 pm): “a very big difference is, on 22 Jun there were 8 teams ahead of or tied with us [in the WCR]. Today there’s only 3.”
Good point — excellent perspective!
(Thanks for the link, btw.)
August 22nd, 20095:40 pm
Refresh, will ya?
August 22nd, 20095:42 pm
Joe Friday- You can’t talk logic with that guy. Just because GA was once one of the better players in the league, he insists he’s still really good, a winner, has a ring, etc. Anderson PACES HIMSELF to get to balls in the corner. He forces the CF to play winshield wiper defense.
August 22nd, 20095:43 pm
We have a very erratic/inconsistent lineup. It’d take a Vatican-confirmed miracle for us this year. No matter how well we get things going, there’s the inevitable butt-slide to follow.
August 22nd, 20095:44 pm
Dave, I read but I never post. Please tell me that Chipper’s nickname among the players is not Hoss? That would be like calling Mike Hampton “Iron Man”
August 22nd, 20095:50 pm

NO MORE BOBBY
August 22nd, 20095:57 pm
DEREK JETER V/S CHIPPER JONES? FOR REAL?
I saw yesterday where someone compared Chipper and Jeter. Are you kidding me? Im watching the Yankee game now and Jeter just made an out. He seemed very upset on the bench. You never see that kind of passion from Chipper. He goes on the bench, sits and stares when getting out. Thats an “I don’t care attitude” and the younger players notice this and think it’s ok to be ho-hum. The Yankee game just showed Jeter dive into the stands back in 2004 and came out bloody. Told Torre he would be in the game next day. Chipper would sit for at least a week in the same situation (if even going after a ball like that).
We all know Im anti Bobby but I think its time Chipper joins the parade out of town. I agree with one blogger who said he is already thinking of hunting season. Hope Wren kills the 90’s this off season so we can finally move forward as an organization. It’s time.
August 22nd, 20096:01 pm
Unfortunately Chiper became old sooner than everybody expected, he is no more an everyday player! and if he doesn’t wake-up now, the Braves will lose this race. I suggest that “Chino” Cadahia prepare some Cuban Coffee for him before every game, to see if he comes alive!!!.
August 22nd, 20096:02 pm
Just back from clubhouse. Didn’t know before I went down there why Church was out. It’s back spasms, and he’s day to day.
Their bench is awfully thin tonight — just Mac and Norton.
Anderson will take swings tomorrow, but probably won’t be ready until Tuesday. Prado probably isn’t available at all tonight, according to Bobby.
August 22nd, 20096:05 pm
Asked Chipper about his side, whether that was bothering him. “No, but now my wrist is killing me,” he said.
Happened last night, couple of check swings. Left wrist.
But he’s gotta play, because, as I said, Braves’ bench is Mac and Norton.
DOB: When the expanded Roster takes effect?
August 22nd, 20096:08 pm
Does anyone know whow as playing first base for us when Jarod Salty got the call up? I was just thinking why didnt they move Mac to first and keep Salty as the Catcher. It seems like a smarter moving see how Mac isnt that good on the defensive side.
August 22nd, 20096:09 pm
I like it but I think Escobar could throw 110
Probably, of course Bobby Cox would never take my suggestion, now I hate him so much, he is such a loser, he should be fired!!
August 22nd, 20096:10 pm
McCann’s 7-for-22 with two homers off tomorrow’s starter, Ricky Nolasco.
DOB – Their bench is awfully thin tonight — just Mac and Norton.
Norton is such a wasted roster spot.
August 22nd, 20096:13 pm
Perilloux is a good kid. Get off his balls. He made a couple mistakes at LSU and now hes some kind of gang banger thug?? That is not the case at all. Hes done great things at Jack and is one hell of a person if you ever got to know him. So what if his grades were a little off, doesn’t make him a horrible screw up.
I’m 90% sure Scott Thorman, so that would have been a smart move, then we get to keep those prospects…
May be Pendelton could still pinch hit??
August 22nd, 20096:14 pm
Not looking good especially having to win the next 2!
We’re talking Chipper Jones and Yunel Escobar. Since Sept 12, the two of them have combined for no extra-base hits and two RBIs in 63 at-bats
You’d think they would have more than 63 at-bats within the past year
But I’m guessing that is supposed to be Aug 12 instead
The A Bomb
August 22nd, 20096:16 pm
OK — Chipper’s wrist is KILLING him, so he’ll make 4 outs in the No. 3 spot tonight.
Unless, of course, his oblique flares up in the interim and Norton will have to play.
Let’s challenge the Marlins to a game of Over the Line instead!
August 22nd, 20096:17 pm
Jurrjens4NLCY- Thats who I was thinking too. It was Franco and Thorman in a platoon then we got tex. Damn we ate that deal.
August 22nd, 20096:24 pm
Why do some of you even bother to post? Are your lives that shallow and frustrating or there’s just nothing else to do? I mean, it’s not as if some of the analysis in the past three hours was relevant, correct or even well written.
About the lineup, I like the idea of Adam LaRcohe hitting fourth and Brian McCann hitting fifth with Yunel Escobar behind him. That would move Garret Anderson to seventh when he’s in the lineup. While I was in the crowd wanting to trade Kelly Johnson, he has become valuable once again. I still think they need to let him play the outfield some so that they have one more utility player on the team. I think looking to next year, Jason Heyward may start the year on the roster. If he doesn’t, the Braves may upgrade in right and left field and re-sign LaRoche. If you get bats in left and right field that bring 20-25 home runs, that would be a pretty solid lineup. I know some will mention Jordan Schafer, but he hasn’t proven he’s ready for the big team and he isn’t healthy so you really can’t count on him. I would still like to see one big bat and one good hitter with speed to man the outfield with Nate McLouth. What do you guys think?
August 22nd, 20096:26 pm
your snide innuendos re the unresolved matter of the south african athlete are unworthy of you…..
I am a great admirer of your Braves work on this blog and in the paper but where I come from that comment would cost you your job.
And he’s 1-8 off tonight’s starter.
So that’s why he’s not playing tonight instead of tomorrow? Nice going, Bobby (no sarcasm)! Hope it pays off…
Chipper’s an old man. Bobby Cox suxks. Chipper is a little girl, Bobby Cox sucks. Norton sucks. We will lose. We will always lose. Bobby Cox sucks. Brooks Conrad is God and Norton sucks worse because he’s keeping God out of the lineup. Blah. Blah. Blah. Whatever.
Escobar for Supreme Court –
Heres the thing, over the years Salty and Mac would no be no where near as good as Mac and LaRoche/Thorman/Tex/Kotchman/LaRoche.
The only benefit is keeping the prospects, and I think the JD Drew for Wainwright deal sucked more…
August 22nd, 20096:27 pm
Lew-And that was a revolutionary post? It was kind, well structured and thought out..Now if only we cared about your thoughts we might actually stop posting.
Lew, you may be correct. Why do you post? I actually enjoy talking about the Braves. I’m sure most of the others on here do as well. From time to time, there are posts that make very little sense, but it’s a free country.
August 22nd, 20096:28 pm
blazon-So you’re from Afganistan or Iran?Maybe Alabama? Lady looks like a Dude (apologies to Steve Tyler).
Don’t forget that Bobby Cox doesn’t want to win, and that’s why he’s violently opposing bringing Heyward up.
August 22nd, 20096:29 pm
Now you know what most of you sound like on a regular basis. Consider it a mirror.
Broxton is a man beast spawned from the bowls of hell to dominate the opposing NL hitters, Satan works in mysterious ways…
CrimeDog, you had me nodding my head “yes”, until the “violenty opposing” comment. I haven’t noticed Bobby Cox with a mobile missile launcher or anything.
August 22nd, 20096:30 pm
CrimeDog-You may be right-at least as far as the malcontents are concerned.
August 22nd, 20096:31 pm
I would like to ask a question about last nights game. When they restarted the 9th inning and it was our time to bat.We had the heart of the line-up batting and I got so dissappointed when we were down by 2 runs and Chipper and Brian came out swinging at the first pitch.Did they have a plan to be aggressive and attract or were they just in a hurry to get the game over? At least Adam worked the count some.
Jurrjens4NLCY- Thorman didnt do squat Tex was here for half a year and we lost four prospects, three of which now start I believe and Kotchman was just blah. You cant say we wouldnt have gotten the production like them. LaRoche is obviously second to Tex even though Tex did not produce here. I think Mac would have made a fine first basemen it just would have taken some time for him to be used to, Jarod has also become quite a good catcher. We could have traded the S.S. we put in that deal for someone as he is lighting up the AL. I agree the Drew for Wainwright was just bad the guy is ripping pitchers but right now we dont really need them so its neither here nor there.
August 22nd, 20096:32 pm
Seriously? Are we talking about Heyward again, look the earliest Heyward is coming up is 2010 All Star break, ok? No sooner for money reasons…
Well of course. I thought that’s whos opinions we were voicing. Don’t even get them started on his continued insistance to run that Japanese dude out there to pitch every fifth night, even though he “sux.”
August 22nd, 20096:33 pm
Girl’s Softball, I think it was past their bedtime.
Lew its a blog for people to express opinions no one expects our words have any effect but it helps people vent their obvious frustrations with this team and their lack of will to win…BOBBY COX
August 22nd, 20096:35 pm
CrimeDog-Of course KK sucks. Why do you think the Braves have refused to score runs when he pitches and lose all his games. He’s a clubhouse cancer. And di I mention he sucks?
Yes it did look like it was past they bed time
August 22nd, 20096:36 pm
Supreme Court Wannabe-There is a Braves rant that would take a lot less time and effort-fewer words. You could just post Braves suck.
It’s obvious that the clubhouse resents him because his country always wins the WBC. After all, this is America. Plus, he doesn’t speak English so he’s no fun at the team bowling outings.
August 22nd, 20096:37 pm
Nelson, rosters can be expanded Sept. 1
Lew: So true about a certain couple of commenters today. Really, and you know who you are, you need to get out, see a movie, take a walk in the park, punch something to take out some pent-up frustrations. Anything. Because the constant, repetitive posts that everything sucks are way past the boring stage, and now just sound imbecilic.
August 22nd, 20096:38 pm
Oh I get it, the fewer teams finish ahead of us we get to feel better?
Lews is right though, everyday its:
“Rabble rabble rabble! Bobby Cox sucks! Rabble rabble rabble! Norton sucks! Rabble rabble rabble! Where is Conrad!! Rabble rabble rabble! Fire Frank Wren! Rabble rabble rabble! I’m pressing the panic button!!! Rabble rabble rabble!
August 22nd, 20096:40 pm
I’m feeling a 5 game winning streak and 41/2 back heading in to philly
McFann is the Senior member posting – in a number of ways – time on the blog, knowledge of baseball, age……………
August 22nd, 20096:42 pm
the thing that makes me nervous is that the braves have played their best baseball of the season and have been the nl’s 2nd hottest team (as dave pointed out) over their past 40 games and they still have only managed to make up 2 games in the wild card (they were 6 back 40 games ago) and have actually lost a game and a half in the division over that span. with the final 40 games of the season they are going to have to make up twice as much ground.
so while the braves mathmatically are very much alive, i’m just not confident that they can do it.
Escobar for Supreme Court, No he won’t. Bank on it…
keylargo-Don’t forget maturity, too.
Seems I’m in more trouble from that storm than you were. And to think I moved to New England to avoid Hurricanes……well, not really, but it is strange.
Count de Monet
August 22nd, 20096:43 pm
Just Roachy’s luck. He finally gets in the cleanup spot and he has Chipper and Kelly Bleeping Johnson hitting ahead of him.
August 22nd, 20096:46 pm
In all fairness, Lew (or anybody else) could complain about the quality of posting here 24/7 and never miss a target. You’re the only guy who has to be here. You get paid for this. May God have mercy on you.
Lew-KK is a solid number 4 go find a better one in all of MLB and show me his line. They cant score runs to help him because our offense is weak sauce. You are a cancer that needs kemo.
Jurrjens4NLCY- I had this arguement yesterday I’m not about to have it again
Bad News…We lost last night
Good News…We are still capable of winning any game against any team
August 22nd, 20096:47 pm
Before joining the Supreme Court, practice detecting sarcasm.
August 22nd, 20096:48 pm
Supreme Court-Dude (or not), that was sarcasm. I think KK has been a worthwhile pickup and has strengthened the rotation. I’m not one of the negative idiots that claims everyone sucks and really mean it like the disaffected masses of morons present on such an interminable basis..
Nova Scotia Steve
August 22nd, 20096:49 pm
Happy Weekend….How about a win huh…
August 22nd, 20096:50 pm
Gotcha, well I’m sorry. I have spent the last two days on here defending HOF players from the very masses you speak of.
Food is ready -
-Corn is golden
-Zucchini and Squash are juicy with they sear marks
-Steaks are medium, juicy as all get out
I love cookin’ on the grill!!!!!
August 22nd, 20096:51 pm
CrimeDog-Probably for the best I didn’t post my quip about him wearing lampshades whehn he has too much Sake?
August 22nd, 20096:52 pm
Supreme Court-Then you should know whereof I speak. Hey- did you know that Tinkers, Evers and Chance all suck?
Brandon from Warner Robins
Heath sounds good. Im stuck with left over chinese food
August 22nd, 20096:53 pm
I sense a HUGE disconnect here:
Nelson (August 22nd, 2009 6:01 pm): “Unfortunately Chiper became old sooner than everybody expected, he is no more an everyday player!”
Nelson (August 22nd, 2009 6:05 pm): “DOB: When the expanded Roster takes effect?”
We got ribs, chips and dip, and a bunch of comfort food (just in case)
August 22nd, 20096:54 pm
Haha probably. I can handle a lot of stupidity on this blog, especially when it comes to opinions. I just get extrememly annoyed when people here presume to know what goes on in the clubhouse or what the “mood of the team” is.
"Chef" Tim Dix
Mac and Norton and pray for ra….just pray.
Carroll ain’t a guy, so she’s the only girl who has to be here, albeit part-time.
You know, like last night.
Just a typical night at the ol’ ballpark.
Has anybody been following the Sox v Yankees game? One of the two genius’s calling the game said ” this game could not be more opposite last nights game”. The score was 9 to 0 Sox at the time. I can think of at least one, jezzz.
Braves better win…
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
