I’m not surprised. Should have sent Mac getting thrown out at the plate is better than watching those two hit
Wasn’t that beautiful. Percent of blogger that recognize a problem 100, percent of Braves managers that recognized the season long proble? _____
Typical Braves with bases loaded and less than 2 outs….either 1 run or none…..pathetic
Escobar for Supreme Court
K for Reid 4-3 for Norton, imagine that. I cant believe we dont have two better players in the minors then these two players.
Not a bad swing there by Greggie. I’m sure KJ makes that play in his sleep.
Barbaro where are you?
Lowe might have stopped the momentum but he at least has a HIT TODAY!!! More than you can say for Norton.
Rob from SC
Frank Wren, keep worrying about having Heyward avoid Super Two status. Meanwhile we will keep losing games because of norton and gorecki.
The 3 worst players on the team just killed us this game.
These decisions are awful. Lowe should have hit there, he has a better stick right now.
DOB, I’m with you. I think Derek Lowe’s name has to be mentioned for whom Tim Hudson replaces in the rotation. It isn’t Kenshin Kawakami at this point. He’s pitching as well as any Braves starter, including Javier Vazquez.
August 23rd, 20093:21 pm
We’ve got to be the worst bases loaded hitting team.
YOU TELL ME
Would Conrad give a better AB than that lost Gorki kid?????????
THIS IS SO OBVIOUS
Takes 4 singles to score MAC(%#%$)
3 hits and no runs LOL thats Bobby ball
The bottom of the 5th is CLASSIC EXAMPLE of the difference between the Marlins and Phillies……….and Braves.
The Marlins have Ross Gload to bring in. The Phillies have both Matt Stairs and Greg Dobbs to use.
The Braves have Greg “Mr. 9 for 62″ Norton coming up.
Yet the “25th” man on the roster is nothing to get “worked up” about.
Who else is he gonna use? Everybody’s hurt!
how are we not at least tied right now? that hurts… big time.
at least we are into their pen. we have done some serious damage off their bullpen in the past…
still four innings to go and i think we can get a run or two across. our pen cannot allow another run to score…
On the plus side, a) we are only down a run; b) we have 12 outs to play with; c) the lineup turned over; and D) Norton was burned already…
Sometimes McCann has a problem getting home from first when the guy behind him hits a triple
Nova Scotia Steve
I really don’t have a comment…can’t believe this S*it
Now, is there not any other OF they could bring up from AAA, or does Bobby just like this Gorecki guy? I feel sorry for him because he’s got to be as low as a person can feel, but we’re trying to win for God’s Sake.
August 23rd, 20093:22 pm
Give it to Javy let him swing he has a higher average then Norton
I wonder if Conrad did something, or didn’t behave like they wanted, because Reid is not ready. Perhaps it was Brook’s defense?
No More Bobby 2.
Norton either has to be injured or someone kidnap him because he will continue to play for the OLD FOOL. He either has pictures of BC beating his wife again or Bobby and he are having an affair.
Let Lowe hit for himself! That’s what
Shoulda left Ricky in.
Norton gotta go, yo!
August 23rd, 20093:23 pm
Even Kawakami can outhit Norton. Pinch hit KK!!
I was seriously wondering why the Fish didn’t just walk Diaz – you knew that our 8 and 9 holes (even with a pinch hittter) weren’t going to do anything with our available bench.
Let’s see if Kris Medlen can continue his solid work. It’s going to have to come down to Chipper, McCann or Escobar to win this game if the Braves pull it off. Of course, it will take a home run because the Braves are decrepedly slow.
TnBrian- Bobby digs his stash
Watching Norton all season long is like watching Orr and Woodward all over again.
Their is no commitment for championship on the part of our executives, that is for sure. They just want to put together a team that can win some games, but nothing more.
Gorecki in the middle of a race batting with the go ahead run on 2B? followed by Norton? That says it all……………
KJ + Norton + Gorecki? Why are this guys still on this team? Unbelievable.
This is disrespectful to the fans.
I think it is horrible that the braves are more concerned with money than they are winning. We should have heyward up here hitting instead of Gorecki. The guy has no business in the majors. Then we bring up norton to pinch hit and he didnt even want to swing the bat. the guy stinks.
we are in desperation mode and we need to bring up the young boys and let them hit. we could win this thing but the organization dont want to start the clock on the kids.
you play for now! we need them now! we have a chance to make the playoffs and we are going to just let the team play with what they got. we have no one to even bring in to pinch hit right now.
I am just livid! how can they choose to just let the playoff hope slip by just because of money?
its sad but true.
Bobby Cox fans – Please justify Norton. Justify sending up a guy with the bases loaded hitting left handed that is 5 for 48 from that side of the plate. Please someone step up and tell me about the misunderstood genius that is Bobby Cox.
If Norton has Maked pictures of you and you cant cut him then let the pitchers hit for themselves.
NO MORE COX, NORTON, KJ, GORECKI OR CHIPPER!
Medlen should take Lowe’s spot in the rotation.
Maybe will get lucky and BLUNDER will call up Jim Clancy…I here his career batting average for a relief picther is a tick up Norton & Bobby still thinks he can lay down a mean bunt.
It takes talent to get 3 singles and not score…! (Sarcasm!)
August 23rd, 20093:24 pm
in 3 starts vs Florida this year, Lowe has gone the minimum each outing (15 innings total) and given up 13 runs.
ANYONE BUT NORTON…Bobby seems to not understand the “what have you done for me lately” approach to managing his team.
Looks like Medlen may be a potential rotation addition next year
August 23rd, 20093:25 pm
“Watching Norton all season long is like watching Orr and Woodward all over again.”
Add Dorky Miller to that Mix as well
If you just have to pinch hit for Lowe, Pinch hit Moylan, pinch hit Medlin….. pinch hit Gonzo they cannot do worse than Norton
Mixxo- The problem is the lack of common sense when it comes to who we bring up. It seems that the front office doesnt want to weaken the gwinnett team by calling up players. We need to win and win now this crap with options on Brandon Jones is BS. We need to make the playoffs if Brandon Jones isnt good eneough to make the club yearly then let him go we need him now not 2011.
No defense. No bench. No Playoffs.
Norton has ZERO business being on any 25 man roster. Much less a team that fancies itself as a playoff contender.
Well Lowe did close for a while so he has bullpen experience. Just cant see any team paying 15 mil for a bullpen guy not named Mo, Pap, or the artist formerly known as K-Rod.
6man rotation is our way out. Cant have Lowe every 5th day if we want to have success.
We’re so shorthanded and still refuse to give Conrad a chance and still using retards in key situations just blows my mind….
I want to puke when I see Norton.
Dan Kolb's Mom
Our lack of bench players + chipper’s suck + kelly’s defense = no postseason
Seriously, why wouldn’t we bring up Canizares and DFA Norton? Norton really is only good for a walk now and then, even if the big Cubano fails it won’t be a season-long re-run
August 23rd, 20093:26 pm
DOB. Is the Fire Bobby Cox sentiment growing? Of course not, but it should be.
I´ll score an assist to you on my book.
August 23rd, 20093:27 pm
Medlin for starter
thank God for Medlen… the kid has learned how to pitch.. probably could start…
You know, I almost forgot about Brandon Jones. Where is he and why is this Gorecki up, when it’s obvious he’s nowhere near ready for MLB pitching, instead of Jones who has a little MLB experience?
Medlen better get a legit shot at the rotation next season
Give Lowe’s spot to Medlen.
Greg Norton and Reid Gorecki SUCK………
Reid Gorecki and Greg Norton – REAL Braves Killers.
As excellent a job as Frank Wren did on the pitching, he did a season-killing job on the lineup.
The man does not know hitting.
I understand the repricussions down the line.
I understand he’s had less than 150 at-bats in AA.
But there is absolutely no doubt that Jason Heyward is a better option, RIGHT NOW, than the guy that got completely blown away with the bases loaded.
I don’t care about 2014. Or his arb in 2015.
Heck, I might be dead by then. So might you.
I care about THIS SEASON and THIS TEAM. Because I think this is a pretty good team overall. I think this is a team that has a very real shot at the postseason.
But we can’t give away at-bats (and possibly the season) to people like Reid f’n Gorecki.
If Heyward is the best option, if Heyward will help this team, this year, CALL HIM UP.
Because Gorecki can’t get any more important at-bats for a team chasing the playoffs. He just can’t.
They will never fire bobby they will just “promote” him
August 23rd, 20093:28 pm
So, besides pitchers, who else is available off the bench? Ross? Is that it?
Time to call up Jordan Stifler
“Now, is there not any other OF they could bring up from AAA, or does Bobby just like this Gorecki guy? I feel sorry for him because he’s got to be as low as a person can feel, but we’re trying to win for God’s Sake”
If Blanco wasn’t struggling so bad I have a feeling he would have been called up since he can play center. I mean there is a reason Gorecki has been in the minors this long. His at bat is not that surprising and we all know Norton’s struggles. The dissapointing inning was the one prior with Chipper and KJ up. But then again they are struggling too. Hey i’m just happy to only be down by one instead of more because when you see what a lesser offensive club did against Lowe in New York and compare that to the kind of hitters Florida has this could be much worse or it could at least be tied if KJ had gotten that out. Well, top of the order due up.
Medlen could’ve replaced Lowe to start this game…especially given Lowe’s terrible numbers vs. the Marlins…that is if BC had any sense of urgency and felt that every game should matter…wouldn’t want to hurt Lowe’s feelings though
Good inning from Medlen!
All of our bitching and moaning about Cox’s blind stupid loyalty to certain inept players is not going to change. He has been doing it for the last 4 years.
August 23rd, 20093:29 pm
medlen has really settled down… he has helped this team immensely in the second half. a lot of people on this board were bashing this kid early on like rookies never struggle, but this kid could turn into a great pitcher before its all said in done. still along way to go but he is certainly heading in the right direction…
Little Med’s really coming on these days. Really like him.
“Two games in a row, Lowe’s been the, ahem, “stopper.” That is, he’s stopped momentum. DOB
To an extent, I agree. I’m always one to talk about “stoppers”. And Lowe is being paid like a guy that they expect to stop.
That being said, if you’re (Wren) going to severely overpay for a guy that is a groundball pitcher, and you go into a season where Martin Prado and KJ are your 2B options, bad things are going to happen.
Lowe still needed to stop the bleeding that inning, but clearly, KJ’s defense is a liability for this team.
With JJJ, Lowe and possibly Hudson in the rotation next year, Wren’s #1 priority should be improving the defense at 2B. That or trading those pitchers for guys that rack up the K’s.
Steve from OH
I figure that they’ll keep him around in the bullpen and he’ll be the fill-in starter if anyone gets hurt next year. If they get rid of (for the sake of argument) Lowe and KK, then we don’t have any SP depth past the current 5, so it makes sense to keep him in a role like that where he’s useful in more than one area. In 2011, when JV and TH’s contracts are up he may enter into the discussion a bit more…
The McLouth injury is such a killer. With both check collectors Church and Anderson out with hangnail injuries, the Braves have no bench. How they could activate Norton and send Conrad back is the definition of why Bobby Cox puts the emphasis on “loyalty to his fellows” over carrying the best players available. Again…I need an answer from somebody…anybody, why is Gorecki up here instead of Brandon Jones or Gregor Blanco????
If the Phillies score holds up, Pedro Martinez will be 2-0 in his first 3 starts, with an ERA of 5.14.
Meanwhile, Kawakami is 6-9, despite an ERA of 3.97.
August 23rd, 20093:30 pm
I don’t disagree with you there. And on a side note, I see my early Medlen hate is paying off. The kid has been pretty good of late and has settled down. Good to see.
To the wall, Omar sent it. But caught.
Just say NO no to all caps.
F this game. F this F’n game. (Channeling my inner Mitchell).
I mean, honestly, the fish toss out a guy with a 5.12 ERA and Gorecki can’t get a stinkin’ bat on the ball? Whoever brought this guy up should be shot! Where the hell is Brandon Jones!?!
Where was that fly ball in last inning debacle?
It just seems like once again…its turning out into “one of those games”
August 23rd, 20093:31 pm
Why is Gorecki here instead of BJ or Blanco? seriously……. Anyone…………some answers on this?
What are the braves waiting to release Norton……
This are serious questions……..
I think Yoda hijacked DOB’s lappy for that last post
bean him, please!
I continue to feel like such an idiot for not realizing how good Kelly Johnson really is.
August 23rd, 20093:32 pm
For God’s sake WREN release this azz-clown and get us a clutch pinch-hitter in the SEPTEMBER call-up.
and, although KJ’s head may be stuck in a 2-hole, his bat doesn’t belong there
Great at bat for KKKKKKKKKKK-JJJJJJ. He really made the pitcher work in that at bat.
And once again that “professional ballplayer” Kelly Johnson with another impressive at bat
Kelly blows.. drops outs, strikes out. Get well soon, Prado.
217 hitter in the two hole……. and he makes a costly error to boot. Woes is me!!!
Come on Chipper. End the slump here with a jack.
If only Gorecki could have done what Omar did….but, I digress.
B-Macc, Come On!
ok need another dinger here from one of the last 3 productive guys in the lineup
Well, Chipper keeps on keepin on.
Do the Marlins not know he isn’t the Chipper Jones of 2008? They havent figured that out yet?
Walks…the only way Chipper gets on base these days.
August 23rd, 20093:33 pm
And I’m saying it for the first time in my life:
I don’t care that the guy is Mr. Brave. He is a zero at the plate, and he is getting OLDER with each game played.
Chpper Jones needs to go to Texas in 2010.
You Are Living Fantasies We ain’t Catching Philly!
Can you guys remember when Kelly was down in AAA or on DL? Team played really well.
Good work by Kris to get the Marlins 1-2-3 in the top of the inning.
I question Bobby Cox’s logic NOT to suicide squeeze with Reid G. the previous inning with the bases jacked. Reid was completerly overmatched against a tough RH pitcher.
I’m also tired of hearing about the “thin bench”. That’s on Bobby Cox and Wren.
All they had to FRAKING do was DL Prado (way back a week ago) and call up Brooks Conrad up.
Effectively we’ve got Prado, Anderson both not on the DL, understandable Anderson is going to be ready on Tuesday, but Prado is not close to returning. He’s going to miss around what 10 games in all? For that the fault lays with Cox and Wren.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
