DOB, I’m with you. I think Derek Lowe’s name has to be mentioned for whom Tim Hudson replaces in the rotation. It isn’t Kenshin Kawakami at this point. He’s pitching as well as any Braves starter, including Javier Vazquez.

The bottom of the 5th is CLASSIC EXAMPLE of the difference between the Marlins and Phillies……….and Braves.
The Marlins have Ross Gload to bring in. The Phillies have both Matt Stairs and Greg Dobbs to use.
The Braves have Greg “Mr. 9 for 62″ Norton coming up.
Yet the “25th” man on the roster is nothing to get “worked up” about.

Let’s see if Kris Medlen can continue his solid work. It’s going to have to come down to Chipper, McCann or Escobar to win this game if the Braves pull it off. Of course, it will take a home run because the Braves are decrepedly slow.

Watching Norton all season long is like watching Orr and Woodward all over again.
Their is no commitment for championship on the part of our executives, that is for sure. They just want to put together a team that can win some games, but nothing more.
Gorecki in the middle of a race batting with the go ahead run on 2B? followed by Norton? That says it all……………
KJ + Norton + Gorecki? Why are this guys still on this team? Unbelievable.

I think it is horrible that the braves are more concerned with money than they are winning. We should have heyward up here hitting instead of Gorecki. The guy has no business in the majors. Then we bring up norton to pinch hit and he didnt even want to swing the bat. the guy stinks.
we are in desperation mode and we need to bring up the young boys and let them hit. we could win this thing but the organization dont want to start the clock on the kids.
you play for now! we need them now! we have a chance to make the playoffs and we are going to just let the team play with what they got. we have no one to even bring in to pinch hit right now.
I am just livid! how can they choose to just let the playoff hope slip by just because of money?

Bobby Cox fans – Please justify Norton. Justify sending up a guy with the bases loaded hitting left handed that is 5 for 48 from that side of the plate. Please someone step up and tell me about the misunderstood genius that is Bobby Cox.

Mixxo- The problem is the lack of common sense when it comes to who we bring up. It seems that the front office doesnt want to weaken the gwinnett team by calling up players. We need to win and win now this crap with options on Brandon Jones is BS. We need to make the playoffs if Brandon Jones isnt good eneough to make the club yearly then let him go we need him now not 2011.

I understand the repricussions down the line.
I understand he’s had less than 150 at-bats in AA.
But there is absolutely no doubt that Jason Heyward is a better option, RIGHT NOW, than the guy that got completely blown away with the bases loaded.
I don’t care about 2014. Or his arb in 2015.
Heck, I might be dead by then. So might you.
I care about THIS SEASON and THIS TEAM. Because I think this is a pretty good team overall. I think this is a team that has a very real shot at the postseason.
But we can’t give away at-bats (and possibly the season) to people like Reid f’n Gorecki.
If Heyward is the best option, if Heyward will help this team, this year, CALL HIM UP.
Because Gorecki can’t get any more important at-bats for a team chasing the playoffs. He just can’t.

If Blanco wasn’t struggling so bad I have a feeling he would have been called up since he can play center. I mean there is a reason Gorecki has been in the minors this long. His at bat is not that surprising and we all know Norton’s struggles. The dissapointing inning was the one prior with Chipper and KJ up. But then again they are struggling too. Hey i’m just happy to only be down by one instead of more because when you see what a lesser offensive club did against Lowe in New York and compare that to the kind of hitters Florida has this could be much worse or it could at least be tied if KJ had gotten that out. Well, top of the order due up.

Medlen could’ve replaced Lowe to start this game…especially given Lowe’s terrible numbers vs. the Marlins…that is if BC had any sense of urgency and felt that every game should matter…wouldn’t want to hurt Lowe’s feelings though

medlen has really settled down… he has helped this team immensely in the second half. a lot of people on this board were bashing this kid early on like rookies never struggle, but this kid could turn into a great pitcher before its all said in done. still along way to go but he is certainly heading in the right direction…

To an extent, I agree. I’m always one to talk about “stoppers”. And Lowe is being paid like a guy that they expect to stop.
That being said, if you’re (Wren) going to severely overpay for a guy that is a groundball pitcher, and you go into a season where Martin Prado and KJ are your 2B options, bad things are going to happen.
Lowe still needed to stop the bleeding that inning, but clearly, KJ’s defense is a liability for this team.
With JJJ, Lowe and possibly Hudson in the rotation next year, Wren’s #1 priority should be improving the defense at 2B. That or trading those pitchers for guys that rack up the K’s.

I figure that they’ll keep him around in the bullpen and he’ll be the fill-in starter if anyone gets hurt next year. If they get rid of (for the sake of argument) Lowe and KK, then we don’t have any SP depth past the current 5, so it makes sense to keep him in a role like that where he’s useful in more than one area. In 2011, when JV and TH’s contracts are up he may enter into the discussion a bit more…

The McLouth injury is such a killer. With both check collectors Church and Anderson out with hangnail injuries, the Braves have no bench. How they could activate Norton and send Conrad back is the definition of why Bobby Cox puts the emphasis on “loyalty to his fellows” over carrying the best players available. Again…I need an answer from somebody…anybody, why is Gorecki up here instead of Brandon Jones or Gregor Blanco????

If the Phillies score holds up, Pedro Martinez will be 2-0 in his first 3 starts, with an ERA of 5.14.
Meanwhile, Kawakami is 6-9, despite an ERA of 3.97.

Good work by Kris to get the Marlins 1-2-3 in the top of the inning.
I question Bobby Cox’s logic NOT to suicide squeeze with Reid G. the previous inning with the bases jacked. Reid was completerly overmatched against a tough RH pitcher.
I’m also tired of hearing about the “thin bench”. That’s on Bobby Cox and Wren.
All they had to FRAKING do was DL Prado (way back a week ago) and call up Brooks Conrad up.
Effectively we’ve got Prado, Anderson both not on the DL, understandable Anderson is going to be ready on Tuesday, but Prado is not close to returning. He’s going to miss around what 10 games in all? For that the fault lays with Cox and Wren.
