Tomahawkin……..on THIS Braves team. McCann hits for a combination of average and power. Perhaps next year, if Frank Wren can acquire a right handed power bat, then McCann can drop down to 5th. I feel that it is tough on a line-up to have a clean-up hitter playing catcher (because of the off days that a catcher frequently get).
But for this year, McCann is our cleanup hitter, simply as that.

I’m Not gonna say that D-Lo Scuks but he has been far from an ace when he gets a lead of 3+ runs…
The first two months he was Clowing and he couldn’t get 3 runs of support for 3 starts…The last 2 months the offense does a lil sumptin sumptin and he forgets how to pitch with some breathing room

you’ve lost your mind comparing a HOF to a marginally serviceable 4th OF named Jeff F.
I could care less what they’ve each done “recently”. Jeff can’t carry Chipper’s jockstrap.
Chipper Jones will get this “turned around” soon. I know this b/c he’s done it before many times when going through a “mini-slump”, that’s why I’m not bagging on the dude here on the blog like many others just b/c he’s had a rough week of AB’s.

Tomahawkin………..at least Lowe settled down, got the double play before getting the pitcher out to end the inning.
Also, the Marlins are fighting for the Wild Card as well. It isnt like they are going to lay down. They are going to score runs. Expect Lowe (or any pitcher) to shut them down is unreasonable.
Our offense is just going to have to keep putting pressure on the Marlins by scoring more runs. It’s a hot day in Atlanta…..the ball is going to carry.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but a good post at 2:07.
Mac is the “perfect” combination hitter of ave, power, combining with an above ave. OPS.
You can book 20+HR, around .300 batting average, and anywhere from 35-40 Doubles from B-Mac

I think That’s how D-Lo got burned in New York. he kept trying to pitch for the DP (Even Bobby mentioned as to why he left him out there). The mets countered by hitting seeing eyed singles and a few Ric Flair’s in that spacious City field OF
D-Lo needs to go into Shut-Down mode from here on out…

Supes……….as critical as I can be on some things……..why do you think that I have NEVER said anything about taking Chipper or McCann out of the line-up…or even moving them in the batting order?
The reason is that I KNOW that slumps are part of the game. I have seen them repeatedly bust out of slumps and go on a tear. They have proven themselves. That is why I dont waste time worrying about them. Bobby is perfectly right to keep sending them out there (other than the occasional off day).

Supes………….thanks for the props with your 2:11pm posting.
Think about it for a sec. You know that I am not afraid of offering criticism. So knowing that, if I’m not criticizing someone who is struggling, there has to be a reason. While I enjoy watching Chipper and McCann play for us…….if a point in time came where their play suffered where slumps became the “norm”…….then my criticism would show.
If I’m fortunate enough to live another 30-40 years, then I will still be a Braves fan when both Chipper and McCann are long forgotten. My point is that I want to see the Braves team win. I would hate to see us suffer through what Pirates fans have been going through. 17 straight losing seasons.
If they have a losing season next year…then there will be children who are Pirates fans….who will graduate from high school having gone their whole lives never seeing their team have a winning season. Now that’s bad.

Rob from SC, your “Lowe sucks” was not a smart comment for two reason…one is that he can still get out of jams on sinkers, and two is that as quick as he got bad, he can get good. I know he’s frustrating as heck to watch sometimes but he’s been around a very long time which has to help him when he’s slumping.

No doubt slumps are part of the game, and they happen to everyone…I mean look at Albert Pujols right now. Dude is still probably the most feared hitter in all of baseball but he’s been slumping since the all-star break. Others are carring the Cards right now.
Like you said, we’ve seen both Brian and Chipper go through slumps. They’ve always snapped out of them. That’s the key to being a great hitter…when you have that 20-30 AB’s where you’re sucking it up…you get going after that and go on a tear where you rake .400 or so for a week or two. It all evens out. Even for the great hitters like Chipper and B-Mac.

WTF is up with Lowe? As if giving up 8 runs in one inning against the Mets wasn’t enough, we are playing a team that we must beat in order to have a chance at the playoffs this year, he was given a 3 run lead right away, and he is trying his hardest to piss that lead away. I would rather have 4 Tommy Hanson’s who are cheap and can figure out how to keep guys off bases. This team, this year, bugs the hell out of me. They don’t deserve to be in the playoffs. Let a team more deserving play to see what they can do, we all know the Braves would be knocked out right away.

Oh, what do you know…Oliver Perez couldn’t get through the 1st inning versus the Phillies today.
Where is Anders to argue that Braves overpayed for Derek Lowe just like the Mets overpayed for Perez…problem is Perez is a headcase and a BUST. Derek Lowe is a serviceable starter who eats innings and can consistantly win 15 games per year.
