The Thing That Puzzles me about D-Lo is that He didn’t get Rocked in New York…He got beat on seeing eyed singles and bloop hits…
I dunno WTF is up with him now…?
But It didn’t help last tuesday that the Awfense went AWOL on him after Slapping Cy Perez in the first
Mah dang…if he woulda caught it, he wouldn’t have gotten the out anyway, but the guy wouldn’t have wound up on third. E #8…

Lowe to the pen for Huddy

Tomahawkin……..on THIS Braves team. McCann hits for a combination of average and power. Perhaps next year, if Frank Wren can acquire a right handed power bat, then McCann can drop down to 5th. I feel that it is tough on a line-up to have a clean-up hitter playing catcher (because of the off days that a catcher frequently get).
But for this year, McCann is our cleanup hitter, simply as that.
Lowe needs a diet
Lowe’s given up 4 hits in 2 innings
August 23rd, 20092:08 pm
6 – 2 Phillies. Perez out..
At least he didn’t give up 5-6 runs. That’s progress right?
Let’s get some right back at ‘em. Don’t let ‘em get too confident.
August 23rd, 20092:09 pm
I’m Not gonna say that D-Lo Scuks but he has been far from an ace when he gets a lead of 3+ runs…
The first two months he was Clowing and he couldn’t get 3 runs of support for 3 starts…The last 2 months the offense does a lil sumptin sumptin and he forgets how to pitch with some breathing room
you’ve lost your mind comparing a HOF to a marginally serviceable 4th OF named Jeff F.
I could care less what they’ve each done “recently”. Jeff can’t carry Chipper’s jockstrap.
Chipper Jones will get this “turned around” soon. I know this b/c he’s done it before many times when going through a “mini-slump”, that’s why I’m not bagging on the dude here on the blog like many others just b/c he’s had a rough week of AB’s.
For a couple of batters there I thought “is it the fourth inning already?”
August 23rd, 20092:10 pm
The Phillies could really use a loss right about now
Somebody needs to teach that kid how to do the chop.
We’re going to need a lot more than three runs in this tilt. The Fish don’t lay down for anybody! (Phillies lite)
August 23rd, 20092:11 pm
Tomahawkin………..at least Lowe settled down, got the double play before getting the pitcher out to end the inning.
Also, the Marlins are fighting for the Wild Card as well. It isnt like they are going to lay down. They are going to score runs. Expect Lowe (or any pitcher) to shut them down is unreasonable.
Our offense is just going to have to keep putting pressure on the Marlins by scoring more runs. It’s a hot day in Atlanta…..the ball is going to carry.
I can’t believe I’m saying this but a good post at 2:07.
Mac is the “perfect” combination hitter of ave, power, combining with an above ave. OPS.
You can book 20+HR, around .300 batting average, and anywhere from 35-40 Doubles from B-Mac
Ok AWFense I don’t want to see the “score in 1 inning and done crap” like we saw last night and on Tuesday…
We gotta get some more…This Marlins offense scares me in that they can hit and run as well
August 23rd, 20092:12 pm
Good at bat for Matty.
Diaz is wearing out right field.
Great ab Diaz.
Matt Diaz = Hittin’ fool a work once again. Starting to “own” the Marlins once again. When Matty starting to drive the ball to center and right field, watch out.
August 23rd, 20092:13 pm
We need more of B Mac’s small ball…….. hit the ball so far it is too small to see it any more
Preach it, Supes. I think Bheart was kidding but most of the commenters are not.
Time for Bares to cook some more fish tacos…4 may not be enough today
August 23rd, 20092:14 pm
“Tomahawkin………..at least Lowe settled down, got the double play before getting the pitcher out to end the inning.”
I think That’s how D-Lo got burned in New York. he kept trying to pitch for the DP (Even Bobby mentioned as to why he left him out there). The mets countered by hitting seeing eyed singles and a few Ric Flair’s in that spacious City field OF
D-Lo needs to go into Shut-Down mode from here on out…
August 23rd, 20092:15 pm
My keyboard not working very well today
Was that Hendrix for Gorecki’s walk up music?
McCann has four homers and nine RBI in 24 at-bats in his past seven games.
Supes……….as critical as I can be on some things……..why do you think that I have NEVER said anything about taking Chipper or McCann out of the line-up…or even moving them in the batting order?
The reason is that I KNOW that slumps are part of the game. I have seen them repeatedly bust out of slumps and go on a tear. They have proven themselves. That is why I dont waste time worrying about them. Bobby is perfectly right to keep sending them out there (other than the occasional off day).

August 23rd, 20092:17 pm
Mac’s homerun was awesome but why even put Rochy as clean up if you dont plan on keeping him there?
Oh well. Moving on.
braves have a serious problem here with lowe. you have a guy here, who can’t strikeout anyone. he is 36 and getting worse. it’s a bad contract and there is no chance that it gets better.
August 23rd, 20092:18 pm
DOB McCann has four homers and nine RBI in 24 at-bats in his past seven games.
Yeah! 4 of his last 7 hits are homers!
tampabrave: No, it was Pink Floyd
August 23rd, 20092:19 pm
Oh, and I made a typo back there…apparently that was BMac’s 9th error…
Guess I miscounted.
Another hit off Lowe…..’magine that!
August 23rd, 20092:20 pm
Medlin gives this team a MUCH BETTER chance of winning than the guy on the mound right now.
Please warm him up. Before it’s too late.
Lowe won’t make it out of this inning
jb- We need to force him into retirement
August 23rd, 20092:21 pm
Come On D-Lo!
I like Lowe when he’s throwing a lot of sliders and of course sinkers that sink.
August 23rd, 20092:22 pm
Supes………….thanks for the props with your 2:11pm posting.
Think about it for a sec. You know that I am not afraid of offering criticism. So knowing that, if I’m not criticizing someone who is struggling, there has to be a reason. While I enjoy watching Chipper and McCann play for us…….if a point in time came where their play suffered where slumps became the “norm”…….then my criticism would show.
If I’m fortunate enough to live another 30-40 years, then I will still be a Braves fan when both Chipper and McCann are long forgotten. My point is that I want to see the Braves team win. I would hate to see us suffer through what Pirates fans have been going through. 17 straight losing seasons.
If they have a losing season next year…then there will be children who are Pirates fans….who will graduate from high school having gone their whole lives never seeing their team have a winning season. Now that’s bad.
Lowe doesn’t have it today…we were lucky they didn’t score in the 1st…get the bullpen up…5 hits in 2 1/3 innings is living dangerously…we’ve got the lead we need to protect it
August 23rd, 20092:23 pm
Beautiful throw by Mac.
Where Were all the Antique Car fans that were supposed to be at the game today…I bet there isn’t over 30,000 Fans there?
It’s going to be fun watching Lowe eat up $45M of our payroll the next 3 seasons.
With Hanley Ramirez up? You do that?
Better to be lucky than good I say…
A little luck can help
Thanks DOB, still a little groggy from last night. Either way arguably best walk up on the team. GREAT THROW MAC!!
McCann giveth…..McCann taketh away.
Baserunning Blunder helped D-lo that inning, Nice!
New mac deke play?
Steve from OH
That was a nice sinker to retire Hanley…let’s see some more of those.
August 23rd, 20092:24 pm
Still don’t get why that’s not a CS…
Lowe makes it out the inning, with some help, and he got Hanley on a wicked pitch too!
They must think Mac & chipper are chumps, trying that. Tell em tomahawkin – ho sit down!
We can all agree that three runs aint gonna be enough today. Luckily, there’s no rule that states the home team is allowed to score in just one inning. Put up a 10-spot. Lowe can win with one of those.
a reverse double play, throw him out strike him out.
August 23rd, 20092:25 pm
a strikeout? on the leagues second best hitter. imagine that.
By August, 85 percent of the Pirates fans are Flossin the Rothlisberger Jerseys…
Great headline on back page of Boston Herald today:
Haha! Good one!
We can all agree that three runs aint gonna be enough today. Luckily, there’s no rule that states the home team is allowed to score in just one inning.
there’s no rule but for some reason the Braves had it in effect last night.
August 23rd, 20092:26 pm
I liked Joe Simpson’s “he who hesitates is out” call
Good job by Brian there to get Gload at 3rd.
Then D-Lowe promptly follows that by striking out Ramirez.
Rob from SC, your “Lowe sucks” was not a smart comment for two reason…one is that he can still get out of jams on sinkers, and two is that as quick as he got bad, he can get good. I know he’s frustrating as heck to watch sometimes but he’s been around a very long time which has to help him when he’s slumping.
The Marlins are a sorry team. I think three runs might be enough today.
August 23rd, 20092:27 pm
No Way Loaf…!
I’d figured Loaf would be into some old DJ Quik, Warren G or Nate-Dawg or the Dogg Pond…
That India Arie stuff is scripted…
Chop Chop, great job, lets just hope you didnt jinx the team with that comment.
August 23rd, 20092:28 pm
Pedro Martinez is throwing BP. Francoeur up B3, 0 out, 8-3 Phillie. Strikes out JF.
No doubt slumps are part of the game, and they happen to everyone…I mean look at Albert Pujols right now. Dude is still probably the most feared hitter in all of baseball but he’s been slumping since the all-star break. Others are carring the Cards right now.
Like you said, we’ve seen both Brian and Chipper go through slumps. They’ve always snapped out of them. That’s the key to being a great hitter…when you have that 20-30 AB’s where you’re sucking it up…you get going after that and go on a tear where you rake .400 or so for a week or two. It all evens out. Even for the great hitters like Chipper and B-Mac.
Don’t Underestimate the Marlins…
They Do One-Up the braves in one category and that is Heart…Their Offesne doesn’t give up when they fall behind 3 runs or more
August 23rd, 20092:29 pm
I want to see if I can jinx the team, Original Jon. If I’ve jinxed the team, I want you to blame me for it. After all, I will be completely responsible.
This just in, METS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chipper seeing the ball well today and putting good swings on it off Nolasco. Whatever the reason, he’s owned the dude. Nolasco is a darn good pitcher too. 2 Walks today. Good sign. Say whatever you want about his lack of hitting, guy is still getting on base when he’s slumping.
He’s being careful with Chipper. Understandable, given that he’s 10-for-19 with FOUR homers off Nolasco.
August 23rd, 20092:30 pm
WTF is up with Lowe? As if giving up 8 runs in one inning against the Mets wasn’t enough, we are playing a team that we must beat in order to have a chance at the playoffs this year, he was given a 3 run lead right away, and he is trying his hardest to piss that lead away. I would rather have 4 Tommy Hanson’s who are cheap and can figure out how to keep guys off bases. This team, this year, bugs the hell out of me. They don’t deserve to be in the playoffs. Let a team more deserving play to see what they can do, we all know the Braves would be knocked out right away.
That’s been known for several months now…but yes they are completely useless. No help from them beating the Phillies or a has been like Pedro Martinez who is a “junker baller” at this point of his career.
August 23rd, 20092:31 pm
Hudson giving up 3 runs in the 2nd
The Marlins are a sorry team. I think three runs might be enough today. – Chop Chop
They’re a lot of things we’re not. i.e. hungry, fast, energetic, young, etc., but I wouldn’t say “sorry” at all.
Oh, what do you know…Oliver Perez couldn’t get through the 1st inning versus the Phillies today.
Where is Anders to argue that Braves overpayed for Derek Lowe just like the Mets overpayed for Perez…problem is Perez is a headcase and a BUST. Derek Lowe is a serviceable starter who eats innings and can consistantly win 15 games per year.
August 23rd, 20092:32 pm
I didn’t see the game, so maybe it was just for a bunt or something, but doesn’t the fact that Bobby used one of our pitchers as a pinch hitter in front of Norton suggest that he should not be on the big-league squad. When will they finally drop the guy and bring back Conrad?
Chipper can breathe a little easier with his .286. Frenchy has slipped down to .270. Frenchy just called Chipper a wussy for taking walks trying to protect his slim batting average lead over Frenchy.
Shamus, I’m a Pink Floyd “hater” because they’re not in my top five all-time bands? Classic exaggerated, overstated blog response right there. It’s all or nothing in the blogosphere, baby. All or nothing, all the time. Black or white. Love or hate. Nothing between.
For the record, I really like Floyd. Just wouldn’t put them in my top five rock bands.
August 23rd, 20092:33 pm
I like LaRoche’s walk-up music the most.
I think it was coughlin who was thrown out at third.
I’m experimenting with categorically false/shoot from the hip statements.
Well, he tried to hit into a double-play, but it didn’t work…
August 23rd, 20092:36 pm
Chop Chop –
Carry on then.
Supes, overpaid, not overpayed. Write it 20 times on the chalkboard for the class.
August 23rd, 20092:38 pm
Creative guy with that sign… they should give him something for that.
August 23rd, 20092:40 pm
OK, let’s not do the thing where we score all our runs in the first and then die…
And BMac better get at least one more hit ’cause it’d be nice for that AVG to go up today.
Here We Go Again with the seeing-eyed singles!
Here we go again….
August 23rd, 20092:41 pm
Seriously…that was great.
Can somebody cue the KJ “defensive” defenders??
