Oh I’ve always wanted that, ok, lets go GA, beat up NY like the pros do!
August 22nd, 20093:07 pm
DOB, need to check date on Chipper/Esco slumps.
August 22nd, 20093:12 pm
Was tryin’ to kill me, was tryin’ to kill me, was tryin’ to kill me!
August 22nd, 20093:13 pm
Thanks for the new Blog, Chief.
and consider the slump that Brian McCann just went through
Hmm…last night it appeared he’s still going through it…hitting a whopping .194 this month. Yee-haw. yes, and now Chipper and Escobar have joined in the fun. Who’s next?
Guys we can give up now. While reading the blog this morning, some of our fellow Braves fans deemed last night’s game a MUST WIN. It was a fun stretch, but according to these guys we can pack it in now.
August 22nd, 20093:15 pm
Gloom, despair, and agony….
August 22nd, 20093:16 pm
Nice try, now I have a shadow…
Yee-haw. yes, and now Chipper and Escobar have joined in the fun. Who’s next?
August 22nd, 20093:19 pm
GA takes a 2 – 0 lead on NY on “Da Flyin Hawaiin’s” 2 run HR. No not Victorino, although he could pass in the little league…
Escobar for Supreme Court
August 22nd, 20093:24 pm
Im coming out of my slump tonight its going to be a 7-2 beatdown!
August 22nd, 20093:27 pm
Is there any team in both leagues that have players sidelined as much over the course of a year with what is considered minor aches as the Braves?
Escobar for Supreme Court, I certainly hope you are right! We need Escobar — no, not on the bench — but as a hitter…
August 22nd, 20093:28 pm
Im done riding the Norton trend!!
No member of our current outfield should be a major league starter.
August 22nd, 20093:29 pm
August 22nd, 20093:30 pm
Church, Gorecki, Diaz are 4th outfielders.
August 22nd, 20093:32 pm
first? first win of series tonight!!!
August 22nd, 20093:35 pm
GA is one of the leagues best hitters. He is also very clutch. Hes just old like Chipper. Diaz is a platoon everyone knows this. Gorecki sucks but we havent seen enough of him.
Church is better then Jeff the F.
August 22nd, 20093:36 pm
Let’s hope so!!
August 22nd, 20093:40 pm
EfSC- I’m not so sure Church is better than JF. GA is too old to start in the field. The CF has to cover about 20% more of the field when he plays. Again, our current OF starters should not be starting in the majors.
August 22nd, 20093:42 pm
GA is one of the leagues best hitters????? I just caught that. Are you serious? Maybe in 2001.
August 22nd, 20093:43 pm
DOB or anybody else — What do you think would be Adam LaRoche’s next contract expectation might be in terms of length and dollars? Would 3-4 years at 10M/per year sound high/low/about right. Is his agent Boras?
Look Church has been a lot more productive then JF was when he was here I’ll continue to take him over JF. McLouth is as good as a center fielder as there is, he won a gold glove two years ago! GA is just old yes but hes not worse in the field then Manny.
August 22nd, 20093:44 pm
DOB: “You can recite Chipper’s on-base percetage and OPS and anything else you want as a retort, but folks, he has no extra-base hits and a .194 average in those nine games, with two RBI, nine strikeouts and four walks in that span.”
Now you’re just shadow boxing, or fighting straw men — no one that I know of has denied that Chipper’s been in a slump.
“Chipper needs a rest and some protection in the batting order — Braves need a full roster and a legitimate clean-up hitter . . . ”
(Funny though that no one here’s been hatin’ on Escobar — only on Chipper. Go figure.)
Yes he is on the all time list for hits how can you take that away from him. He is as smart at the plate as Chipper is.
August 22nd, 20093:48 pm
Martin Prado has been in decline for a month and the last 10 games he has been in a severe slump as his numbers will verify.
Is whatever is hurting Chipper (in his side I think, maybe an oblique), going to hold out until Martin can come back? That seems like the question for tonight and tomorrow.
August 22nd, 20093:49 pm
Or Infante moves to third and Kelly starts at second…
August 22nd, 20093:50 pm
He is on the all-time list for hits? Every major leaguer that has a hit is on that list. He WAS a good player, he’s now occasionally a good hitter. There’s a reason he was our last resort to sign. I wasn’t including McLouth. He’s on the DL. I mean the group we’re currently trotting out there.
August 22nd, 20093:51 pm
Sorry, I thought I had the last ten games but he is .222/.243/.361/.604 for the last ten.
August 22nd, 20093:54 pm
bruce- You cant stay hot forever, even Pujols slumps.
Jim Rockford- Really, I know ever player is on that list that is a very counter productive statement. Anderson is near the top of that list and you want to throw that away? He is not the best option for LF I am by no means saying that and yes he was our last ditch effort but I think he is having a pretty good year for someone in his upper 30’s.
August 22nd, 20093:57 pm
EfSC- We don’t need someone who’s having “a pretty good year for someone in his upper 30’s”. Who gives a fat rat’s a$$ what his career numbers are? Tom Glavine has great career numbers. could he start for us as well?
August 22nd, 20094:02 pm
Glavine couldnt produce Anderson can and has to some extent. So what he’s a middle of the road OF, this team is middle of the road incase you haven’t noticed. I would take him over some no name person they would have to find.
Bruce Or Infante moves to third and Kelly starts at second…
That’s what I think they should do…at least for one game. Chipper does seem to be hurting, and we don’t need it to get worse…
August 22nd, 20094:04 pm
escy — I am not talking about being hot, or slumps… I am talking about being/playing hurt… Chipper cringed big time on one swing last night (saw it on Marlins broadcast) and I’ve seen the same in the dugout recently… he is playing with significant pain maybe injury. I’d bet he’d get rest if Prado was healthy…
August 22nd, 20094:05 pm
I think Chipper is hurting from his recent oblique strain and needs a rest. I know Infante isn’t at 100% but it might be time for Kelly to play second and OI at third. LaRoache needs to bat clean up and McCann fifth. This righty lefty righty scenario doesn’t really mean much when Mac and Roachy hit lefties pretty well. Has anyone noticed Escobar being a little nonchalant in the field with his hustle and ball handling? It just seems he is bored because the game is so easy for him defensively. IMOA
August 22nd, 20094:06 pm
This team is handicapped by its lack of outfield production. You’re making the point for me. Besides injury-depleted teams, with which other teams could GA start in LF?
18 Wheels of Love
August 22nd, 20094:07 pm
Daddy needs a drink
August 22nd, 20094:08 pm
1. Infante (LF)
6. Diaz (RF)
8. Gorecki (CF)
Travis LaRoache needs to bat clean up and McCann fifth.
You know it, man.
This righty lefty righty scenario doesn’t really mean much when Mac and Roachy hit lefties pretty well.
Something BMac has not done this year–hit lefties well. Brother! .202 AVG…
August 22nd, 20094:10 pm
Ever since I went-a huntin’ in that there petting zoo, I’ve been kinduv, you know, lazy
Holy crud…I…he…it…LaRoche! He is…batting cleanup!
Somebody get me a paper bag to breath into…I’m passing out…
August 22nd, 20094:12 pm
Since Sept 12, the two of them have combined for no extra-base hits and two RBIs in 63 at-bats. The Braves are 5-4 in those nine games.
Steve from OH
August 22nd, 20094:13 pm
Who’s playing CF?
The A Bomb
I love those lineups where we create a strong bench. Only thing missing from the lineup – subtract LaRoche and put in Norton at 1B.
Hanson — you need to throw a no-hitter tonight.
August 22nd, 20094:14 pm
Looks like many of you got you’re wish. Roachy hitting clean up…Omar in LF, and KJ playing 2nd. I guess you’ll have to come up with something new to complain about if they lose tonight. I’m confident that won’t be too hard for most of you.
Listening to a radio show last week and the host is tight with Myers so asks Myers about hitting Manny in last year’s playoffs. Myers, off course, said after the game to the press that it was a pitch that got away. But the radio host said Myers told him “Hell, yeah, I was trying to hit him.”
I’ve heard Myers on that show a few times and he seems like a cool dude — his off the field … incidents? … notwithstanding.
August 22nd, 20094:15 pm
My heart seriously skipped a beat when I saw the lineup…I know that’s weird, but it did.
Hey, David Ross…
August 22nd, 20094:18 pm
I would guess Gorecki plays CF.
August 22nd, 20094:19 pm
Jim Rockford (August 22nd, 2009 3:50 pm): “He is on the all-time list for hits? Every major leaguer that has a hit is on that list.”
I didn’t like it when you was messing around with your boy scout knife. I sure don’t like it now that you’re messing around with statistics!
August 22nd, 20094:20 pm
Yea I got that, our whole team is banged up at the wrong time. Its horrible luck.
St Louis, Col, San Diego, Tex, Kansas and Cleveland to name a few all those teams have worse LF production then we do.
August 22nd, 20094:21 pm
Funny though that no one here’s been hatin’ on Escobar
Ha. You must not have read the blog a single day in July.
May was hate Kelly month, June was hate Frenchy month, July was hate Yunel month, and August is hate Chipper month. Keep up, Random.
You’d think with all the notes you take on the blog comments that you would know these things.
Oh, Rocky cool it. Angel started it and Sgt. Becker gave me the OK.
August 22nd, 20094:23 pm
Escobar for Supreme Court (August 22nd, 2009 3:54 pm): “Jim Rockford- Really, I know ever player is on that list that is a very counter productive statement. Anderson is near the top of that list and you want to throw that away?”
Jimmy didn’t kill nobody!
And honestly? Why is that Gorecki kid playing over Church? Is something wrong with Ryan Church? Is Gorecki playing CF? Really? Or is Diaz playing there? Whoever is in RF better have some wheels or play shallow..thats all I’m saying.
Don’t worry, Sonny. I mean, they can’t throw you in jail for something you didn’t do!
August 22nd, 20094:24 pm
Its not weird, McFann…its sad lol.
August 22nd, 20094:25 pm
That ain’t Jimbo, Rocky — that’s Freddie Beamer.
August 22nd, 20094:28 pm
Haha! It is sad…
@ your 4:23.
And when I saw Ross was playing, I was like, “Oh, there’s why [LaRoche is batting cleanup]…no BMac and no Anderson. Why’s BMac not playing…heck, I did say Ross could get more starts…but why is he starting today and not tomorrow’s DGANG? Maybe Bobby knows BMac can’t hit Volstad…yeah, that’s all it is, right?”
McCann is off today because he spent last night’s entire rain delay in a catcher’s crouch.
August 22nd, 20094:29 pm
August 22nd, 20094:30 pm
EfSC- I see you’re still fighting the losing battle. Look at the teams you listed. Marlon Byrd is currently a better all-around player than GA. St.Louis made a major upgrade in getting Holliday. The others, you are correct. GA could play for them. he could not start for the Cards or Rangers, and other than the Rockies the others you listed are DISMAL. Maybe that’s where GA should be playing, on a team that thinks “he’s having a pretty producyive year for someone in his upper 30’s”.
August 22nd, 20094:32 pm
Angel Martin’s behind the whole thing. He’s got a numbers fix going down.
August 22nd, 20094:33 pm
Jim Rockford (August 22nd, 2009 4:21 pm): “Oh, Rocky cool it.”
I am THROUGH talking to you! Look at you, an inch or two to the right and you’d be missing that eye!
he spent last night’s entire rain delay in a catcher’s crouch.
Hmmm, interesting lineup.
August 22nd, 20094:34 pm
So let me see here. . .
Prado can’t go. . .
Anderson can’t go. . .
So when the most well-known oblique in sports flares up in the 3rd inning. . . Church to LF, Infante to 3B. . .
When Escobar gets his mysterious “pain” (because he has to play w/Johnson tonight), he comes out, Infante goes to SS and Norton goes to 3B. . .
So in the 7th inning. . .
“YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE, FOR THE BRAVES, BATTING FOR HANSON, NUMBER 58. . .
Tonight might be cosmic bowling night.
August 22nd, 20094:35 pm
At least LaRoche is in the cleanup spot. Otherwise, that line-up….
August 22nd, 20094:36 pm
Soph Hmmm, interesting lineup.
…to say the least. At least LaRoche is batting cleanup!
We’ve got two future Hall of Famers (Chipper and Hanson) in the lineup. We’re going to win the World Series. Quit being negative. You sicken me.
August 22nd, 20094:37 pm
I think the only reason Esco is slumping is because he’s without his best bud Byran Pena. I mean how can you expect him to put up solid numbers without someone to talk to at night on the road? Same goes for McCann now that Jeffrey’s gone.
August 22nd, 20094:40 pm
DOB, why did the Braves bring up Gorecki stedda BJones? Because he can play multiple OF positions? We could use BJones’ bat.
Also, I’m thinking Wren has a pleasant problem: How do you offer LaRoche a one-year deal, biding time until Freeman is ready. LaRoche is looking really valuable (I know, contract year) with his glove and his power. I’d say sign him to a 3-year deal–he’s obviously going to want more than one year–and give Freeman more time to mature (only 19 or 20 now as it is). How can we push out a potential 30-HR guy for a Mark Grace-like doubles hitter? And we’ve already seen what happened after we rushed Frenchy and Schafer.
Wait. Yunel’s going to the Hall, too.
That wasn’t nearly condescending enough, Chop Chop. Try harder.
August 22nd, 20094:42 pm
Chipster: Ever since I went-a huntin’ in that there petting zoo, I’ve been kinduv, you know, lazy”"
I’m assuming the “petting zoo” is Hooters?
Yunel and chipper combined only have 2 RBIs since last September. You are a crack addict if you think they are going in the hall. They are lucky they even have jobs. They’ll be ushers at the ted next year with numbers like that.
August 22nd, 20094:44 pm
RHR (August 22nd, 2009 4:40 pm): “That wasn’t nearly condescending enough, Chop Chop. Try harder.”
Here, I’ll give ‘er a try.
RHR (August 22nd, 2009 4:21 pm): “Ha. You must not have read the blog a single day in July. . . . July was hate Yunel month . . . .”
All’s I remember is some people bashing on Escobar for his quote unquote “attitude” and “behavior”, not for any lack of offensive performance (”slumping”).
Does that ring a bell? Or are you incapable of making such fine distinctions?
Ushers…or ticket takers.
Jim Rockford-Hes is a potential Hall of Fame player win one more ring then most of the Braves to say he is not a good player is just not correct. Hes a winner.
August 22nd, 20094:45 pm
Refresh, por favor.
August 22nd, 20094:46 pm
My money is on Diaz playing CF… Glad to see Ross getting some more PT lately… McCann has been looking sluggish (moonshot bombs in NY excluded).
Was anyone else totally disgusted with Hoss and Mac being overly aggressive in the bottom of the 9th last night?
Mac and Esco’s struggles have nothing to do with Pena and Frenchy not being around, either.
Soph Ushers…or ticket takers.
Or they could be the people who clean out the dugout after every game. Talk about dirty jobs…
August 22nd, 20094:47 pm
Without question. First ballot.
This Blog is being mean to me!
It won’t stop un-refreshing…
August 22nd, 20094:49 pm
Yakacki Was anyone else totally disgusted with Hoss and Mac being overly aggressive in the bottom of the 9th last night?
I didn’t see it! Nyah nyah nyah-nyah nyah!!
August 22nd, 20094:50 pm
McFann – yeahhhhh, that would be a nasty job. Although I have to say the people that clean the stadium afterwards have it pretty bad too.
August 22nd, 20094:51 pm
Oy vey..Reid Gorecki in CF…this is going to be fun.
Escobar for Supreme Court ,
I was being sarcastic
August 22nd, 20094:52 pm
Sure EOF is an upgrade………I forgot about him, but Logan? helloooooooo.
August 22nd, 20094:53 pm
True…they must get paid very well…
Saw the dugout up-close on April 30, 2006 when my sister and I went down to run the bases. They really need a trash can in there…
And yeah, cleaning up the stadium…yeesh. Kid in front of at a game last year puked all over the place…and I’m sure he wasn’t the only one…
August 22nd, 20094:54 pm
“As Chipper, Escobar go, so go Braves?”
I guess that means we are screwed, since Chipper is going nowhere but south.
August 22nd, 20094:55 pm
THE BRAVES WILL LOSE AS LONG AS PRADO STAYS OUT. OMAR INFANTE IS TERRIBLE ON DEFENSE, HE DIVES AT BALL HIT RIGHT AT HIM. KELLY JOHNSON IS AS BAD. UNLESS PRADO COMES BACK AND CONRAD IS CALLED UP, SECOND BASE WILL BE THE BRAVES WEAK SPOT. INFANTE KILLED THE BRAVES THE FRIDAY VS THE MARLIN. THERE WERE BALLS HIT AT HIM WHERE ALL HE HAD TO DO WAS REACH OUT, HE CHOOSE TO DIVE AT THEM HE IS TERRIBLE. THEN TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, HE FAILS AT THE PLATE. WHY IS BRANDON JONES NOT CALLED UP? HE IS A BETTER OUTFIELDER THAN THAT NEW FELLOW IN LEFT FIELD
August 22nd, 20094:56 pm
It makes sense……..something we have not been able to say very frequently for the last 4 seasons.
August 22nd, 20094:58 pm
Bobby Cox- I forgot what you said lol
