Im not bashing Koufax I’m just trying to pose the question of; Would he be as dominate today? I agree calls seem really bad lately but people will always make mistakes its human nature. Its hard to say that Koufax never got breaks because I am sure he did.

could be wrong but I think the service time clock started when he made the Opening Day roster. I know that takes away an option year (SHAUN)
yes on the waiver but this year is still covered. Service time is cumulative while in the bigs. He picked up some and twenty days more after being sent down I believe it is. But its a total days type thing so he isn’t that far along yet. More to the point is how many of these guys do they wanna pay a months worth of MLB salary to in this economy?

Planet get a better dis. Cox used to fight for players and dont act like he didnt. Schuerholz also used to gamble on young guys a lot more. I do know Wren is the GM but I wanna see fire coming from the Braves.

Heyward is also having a really good year down at AA he is batting .348 in 141 AB’s with 28 R’s 12 doubles 3 trips and 7 HR’s more walks then K’s and only one ground into a DP. Thats a pretty damn good line.

Trust me I know he is having a good year. I check the Mississippi box score every night to see how he did. He has a great approach at the plate that leads to the low Ks. I think he will be a superstar one day so just don’t want to rush him and possibly get him off track of being great.

I’ll put aside the fact that you have no evidence to back this “Cox used to fight for players” claim, and simply say that Wren is the one who makes those moves. I don’t know what’s wrong with the current outfield production that would require the Braves to pull up Heyward now.

I don’t see the big deal about McCann, I really don’t. He’s not that great of hitter compared to a Joe Maur or even a Pudge in his prime as far as catchers go anyways. His defense is below average and he just showed in that first inning why he isn’t a cleanup hitter. Now, he’s good, but he won’t carry his team to the postseason. Thanks to him, Sanchez has settled down.

Ok you pretend that and I will pretend you can prove he doesnt fight for people he wants call up. Nothing is wrong with it, nothing is wrong with our team. Sept. calls ups are not to plug holes. It is to get expierence to see what you have in your minors. If calling players up makes a team better why would they not have gotten the call up before the roster expands?

Well Mauer is hitting above .380 its hard for anyone to be better then him at the moment. As far as catchers go there is a reason why everyone calls Mac one of the best in the game I believe players and coaches know what they are talking about. There is also a reason why Smoltz lobbied to have him stay up his rookie year, he calls a great game.

I really don’t think you understand that if JH comes up in Sept. that his arbitration clock starts. He will be under Braves control for six years from 2011 if the Braves wait until next June to call him up. If he comes in Sept. it will be six years from 2010.

I cannot believe how stupid our team is, and I blame Cox. We had Sanchez dead and buried in the first inning. All we had to do is be patient. BUT NO, McCann shows that he has the brains God gave a dirt clod and hands the guy a one pitch double play. He couldn’t find the plate in the first inning and instead of forcing him to throw some strikes, McCann swings at the first pitch. Cox should have made him take a strike. Heck, I would have made him take 2. A patient team would have chased Sanchez in that first inning. Instead, our idiots took all the pressure off him and gave him back his confidence. The most patient team in baseball is the Yankees. Do you think that might have something to do with why they are the best team in baseball. There’s not an ounce of brains on this team or in the dugout.

McCann this, McCann that…. please! I watched Justice help carry his team to the postseason his first few years in MLB. I watched Chipper help carry his team to the postseason in his prime. I have yet to McCann do much in this hunt we’re in right now.
Boy, that Gorecki really looks like a keeper. YIKES! You can thank Mac for helping this pitcher settle.

I will try and re explain it though. In my opinion teams dont call up players in septemeber to add a skill to their team. They call up players so that young guys get expierence and can evolve their game. Unlike you who thinks teams call up people to make their team better. If the players they call up to add skill were so good why would they not do it sooner?

I don’t know why you think that I believe September callups are for improving a team. I’m still not sure you understand that calling Heyward up “to see how far he’s come” would cost the team a year of control over him. If having a few game tryout to evaluate a player is worth losing a year on the arbitration clock to you, then by all means go turn in your GM application for the Mets.

BMac hit .333 with 24 homers, 36 doubles, 93 RBI, 41 BB, and only 54 K’s in his first full Major League season (2006). Made the All-Star Team, won the Silver Slugger.
In ‘07 he had an off-year–hit .270 with 18 homers, 38 doubles, 92 RBI, 35 BB, and 74 K’s. Made the All-Star Team (Mauer did not go that year). Lotta teams would take that from their catcher as a good year…
Last year, he hit .301 with 23 homers, 42 doubles (tying the NL record for doubles in a single season by a catcher), 87 RBI, 57 BB, and 64 K’s. Very solid year for a catcher.
So far this year he’s hitting .285 with 15 homers, 30 doubles, 62 RBI, 38 BB, and 55 K’s. He’s been slumping for close to two months, but overall his numbers aren’t horrid.
Yeah, Mauer hit for a better AVG, but come on–he cann DH, he plays his home games in an air-conditioned stadium. He’s DANG GOOD, don’t get me wrong, but he does have a couple advantages.
BMac’s defense isn’t the greatest around–yeah, leaves a little to be desired, but you always read our pitchers talking about what a great game he calls. And yeah, in his Rookie Year, Smoltz wanted him to be his personal catcher after BMac caught one game for John–I’m pretty sure it was either that game or the next game BMac caught for Smoltz that John pitched a CG.
BMac is good, dude. Get with the program.

No you don’t understand it. If he comes in Sept. , he will be under Braves Control from 2010 until 2015.
If the Braves bring him up, exactly like Hanson, he will be under Braves Control from 2011 until 2016.
You get a potential ALL STAR in 2016 or a 20 year old for a month in Sept 2009.

BMac’s also had eye problems this year. And, huh, I should have pointed out that he led the team in homers and RBI last year…So, yeah, it was totally his fault they missed the play-offs last year.
And in ‘06 the pitching was so crummy, but the offense was near the top of the league, I’m pretty sure. Not really his fault there, is it? Or did he not handle the pitchers right with the new pitching coach and the crummy pitchers?
