Thank you Escobar for Supreme Court!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s obvious that no team will ever go 162-0. That still doesn’t mean you shouldn’t expect to win every game.
By Capt. Idiots logic, the Braves should just “hope” instead of “expecting to win”.
I promise that the Patriots w/Brady, Chicago Bulls with Jordan, La Lakers w/ Kobe and Shaq from 2000-2002, and Yankees in the late 90’s didn’t hope to win. They expected to win, the reason why they became a dynasty.
“You all are Cox apologists”-
No problem man, as a pro athlete you have to want to win every game and never waiver from that other wise you cant win any games. I see Jo-JO as the deal sweetner in any off season trade that gets done. WHether it’s KK or Lowe and throw in Jo-Jo- that team would have a either a solid 3 or 4 depending on who goes and a potential #5 guy. A lot of people were roided up it still doesnt take away from the fact they came back from an 0-3 deficite on a prolly roided up yankees team and took the first for from a very over rated and very lucky Stl. team.

I think that Stupid Fever Pitch Movie Turned the Red Faux into Hollywood stars much like the LA Fakers…
I’ve ran into plenty of Chicks who didn’t know a single Red Sox player other than Johnny Damon’s Overrated Ass before he sold out to WhineBrenner and the Yanks…
YO Escobar — your math skills need some work. 80 wins ?? how do you win most of the series and yet win less than half of the games ?? But thanks for playing anyway.
“You all are Cox apologists” — If you live in Atlanta then why did you make a comment about the level of reading skills down here in Georgia ?? Or are you one of those non-native folks who move here and think you need to “educate” us about life?? And you are obviously new to the blog if you don’t know who I am………. a kid?? Not hardly. OK somebody help this guy out a little bit before I have to embarrass him.
I’ll give you a hint, I used to play a little game we called baseball and actually got a check for doing it, I also make extra cash on the weekends tossing guys like you out on the street at one of the better clubs in Atlanta. So pardon me while I LMFAO … LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Randon, ok, what’s your point? What, that I said today that people write stupid stuff about Chipper not being productive all year when he has? I know he has and I’m just commenting how lathargic he looks on the field RIGHT NOW.
Or, maybe you’re just rubbing in that you can go back and post other people’s comments and mock them, right?
By the way, if the Braves had played with the mindset that anything less than a series sweep versus the Mets was a failure, they would have lost the last two games after the tough loss on Friday.
I just heard “Word of Mouf” That Billy Wagner is going to the Marlins…
So which team is he going to…? Red Faux or Fish…?
I don’t think the mets will deal within the division even though they did it earlier in the season…And I don’t think that the Fish can afford Wagner…So Wagner going to Boston makes better sense…
Capt Caveman-
Where do you work, Amsterdam? Im sure it is tough throwing them out. If you never sweep a series how can you expect to finish above .500? You also have to take into account the series you dont win where you go 1-2 or 1-3 and not to mention the splits. 80 wins would put you 2 games under. I may have low balled the number but everyone got the point I was trying to make.
Tomahawkin-
I would say he is going to a contender or someone a couple games out of WC or Div. The Red Sox dont make much sense to me. Someone said Cubs earlier that made a lot of sense given their recent closer problems.
Escy –
I wear the t- shirt backwards so that I do not have to turn my back to show the player I am wearing their name&number. Primarily, its so the player can see their name and sometimes they put you on TV for doing it, especially if the player hits a homer and you are the only one standing up to cheer (away games). Fans behind you can only boo you and can not say “sit down McCann” or “sit down Diaz” (they pronounce it wrong). And a couple of times I think it has also helped me get balls tossed to me by Brian and by Hubbard.
Yea SouthSide Steve’s used to be Off The Chain before it got raided by 5-0. That place got busted for underage drinkers, just like everywhere else in Henry County…
If I go out now You can find me kickin it in Midtown…Mainly Opera, Primal and Flip-Flops…

At this point aren’t we all a little surprised the 13 teams ahead of the Braves didn’t take Heyward? Did the experts recognize that at first? (Carroll)
yes they did. everyone was amazed that he lasted past the first 8 choices. Miner was cheap -relatively- and safe. he is advanced, has good enough stuff to be pretty certain to get to the bigs and not totally flop, but he lacks in upside over at least 5-6 others they passed over because of cost. You would like to see more from the first draft selection that high in years. Of course he could be the guy who succeeds the best of any of them, you just never know;but the pick was universally panned by analysts. If he makes it big you might say it will be a minor upset.
Johnson is too good a player to waste away on the bench as a second backup IF. But he will. At least until someone reminds Cox that Infante can play the OF
Well, I agree with the first half of that, at least…
It is clear in the ATL right now but there is a 40% chance of thunderstorms this evening. Lets keep our fingers crossed that we get this one in. Although, it is Carroll covering the game and she does not have a good track record with rain delays.
In the last 30 years only 6 pitchers have posted an ERA below 2.00 in the :
1. Clemens 2005 1.87 & 1990 1.93 (HE IS A CHEATER)……….spelling
2. Pedro M. 1997 1.90 & 2000 1.74
3. K. Brown 1996 1.89
4. Maddux 1995 1. 63 & 1994 1.56
5.Gooden 1985 1.53 (Drug addict but maybe clean at the time)
6. Ryan 1981 1.69
So thats 6 guys in 30 years…….9 times between them…….I would erase Clemens data because he is a shame to our sport. That leaves Pedro and Maddux accounting for 4 of the 7 times it has been done in the last 30 seasons………….
Not only that but Maddux did it back to back……..pretty amazing………and he lead the league in ERA 3 times in a row since he had a 2.36 ERA in 1993……. Thats the most dominating span by any pitcher in a 3 consecutive year span since Koufax lead the league in ERA from 1962 to 1966 while dealing 3 sub 2.00 ERA.
Escobar,
He’s not going to be the Ace on this squad anytime soon, not with the production from Jair and Hanson. He is what he is, and thats a good and expensive numero tres. He really is a good pitcher though. He just explodes every so often, gives up 8 earned in a inning and in turn blows up his ERA. He has been better than his ERA represents this year IMO.
Frankie Knuckles-
Like I said I dont like him, I think it was a price pick up. I hope he does good for the team. I agree but currently I would say or Ace is JV the dude is a robot from the year DOMINATION.
nolie-
Heyward is going to get the call up more so then Reyes. We already have to many pitchers to know what to do with. Canizares is pretty old I would be surprised if they call him up even though he made the All Star team. I personally think or call ups will be Heyward Schafer and Conrad. Valdez is iffy. Like you said money is tight so I dont think they will be calling up to many.
Heyward is going to get the call up more so then Reyes
I’ll just go ahead and transition from “Heyward shouldn’t be called up” to “Heyward isn’t going to be called up.” I know, settin’ myself up for some future crow eating, but what the heck. It probably ain’t happening, folks. And for good reason.
And Valdez is “iffy?” He’s more likely than Heyward (barring injury). Perhaps they keep him down for the IL playoffs, but after that I don’t see why they wouldn’t recall him.
DOC: “Thats the most dominating span by any pitcher in a 3 consecutive year span since Koufax lead the league in ERA from 1962 to 1966 while dealing 3 sub 2.00 ERA.”
Glad you mentioned THE MAN!! Thats 5 years in a row leading the league in ERA. In ‘65 his ERA was 2.04, just missing 4 in a row sub-2.00. Who knows what would have happened had he not had to retire prematurely after the ‘66 season due to arthritus in his elbow, at the age of 30.
That’s right! Hey, but maybe he still recognized you from the other games you’ve been too–you don’t see many fans with their jerseys on backwards!
Bet those Mets fans were just cheesed about the 7 runs Diaz had knocked in during the first two games! Haha, I love it…
Yeah, they did go nutso over the Billy Wagner thing…you could even tell from the TV. It is a big deal to get a guy like that back…woulda been a bigger deal if he’d had a save situation, but I’m sure glad he didn’t!
Heath–
Yeah, I s’pose. I just can’t stand the Marlins for various reasons…
Just like JJ Hoover was a 10th rounder last year, but signed for 2nd round money (about 400K, IIRC). Can’t really judge by where they were drafted because in a lot of cases they fall due to bonus demands. Like Matzek going 11th, Zack von Rosenburg going in the 6th (or whatever) round, etc…
Win-win move by the Red Sox. I think the Yankees had interest in Wagner, so this may have been a block by the Sox, though I’m sure he could actually help their ‘pen.
Steve from OH-
Why wouldnt you call him up, get him the big league expierence when you can add players to your roster with out taking away the people that are supposed to be there. We need the outfield depth right now, it makes perfect sense. No pitchers make sense right now we have 6 possible startes when hudson get back and like 6 more relivers. Our arms are going to be rested going to down the stretch esp. when we have Medlin who can come in and pitch 5 innings if need be like vs. the Mets last serier where he went three I believe. Conrad obviously has more upside then Norton. Who would you say there going to call up? Freeman, whos farther from the majors then Heyward, Cody Johnson? No way.
I think it’s kinda funny that Javy wants to sign a long term deal now with the Braves. Of course he does, he is having potential his best season ever and signing a deal now would ensure big bucks before he comes back down to earth next year and has a mediocre season. Not trying to hate on him, I’m just saying. If the Braves are interested in signing him to a long term deal I think they should wait until after next season to see if he can repeat this performance.
Doc Holliday and Pete….Koufax was unreal. I’m not sure enough people realize how dominating he actually was. he’s before my time, but my old man tells me the stories of how surprising it was to even see him give up a run.
We’ve had this discussion (ad nauseum) before, but for several reasons. We delay his free agency by a year by waiting until late April to call him up. We delay his arbitration a year (likely) by calling him up in June. He’s 20. He graduated from HS two years ago. He’s got a month’s (ish) worth of plate appearances above A-ball. That’s not enough. There’s no point in calling him up if he’s not going to play, and if we call him up to play there is absolutely no certainty that he’ll out-produce Diaz/Church right away.
njbraves-
Koufax also pitched on a five or six inch higher mound which make it a lot easier to dominate batters. Dont mis interpret me the man is a god but the game from a pitcher stand point has evolved a lot and batter have gotten bigger and stronger.

YO Escobar — your math skills need some work. 80 wins ?? how do you win most of the series and yet win less than half of the games ?? But thanks for playing anyway.

Or are you one of those non-native folks who move here and think you need to “educate” us about life?? And you are obviously new to the blog if you don’t know who I am………. a kid?? Not hardly. So which team is he going to…? Red Faux or Fish…?

Where do you work, Amsterdam? Im sure it is tough throwing them out. If you never sweep a series how can you expect to finish above .500? You also have to take into account the series you dont win where you go 1-2 or 1-3 and not to mention the splits. 80 wins would put you 2 games under. I may have low balled the number but everyone got the point I was trying to make.

If I wanted to hear about the Sox and Yanks, I'd watch ESPN

Some amazing fact:
