Big pitch, KK. LOTS of pitches though. Let’s hope u got ur bad inning out of u. Quite a few hangers that should have been blasted, too. Tighten it up, boy!!
Scary inning that one.

Kawakami’s line for the night
100 Pitches 1 IP 2BB 1H 0 ER
A ho-hum, 1-2-3-4-5-6 scoreless inning. Well done, KK.
August 20th, 20097:33 pm
The Mutt hitters didn’t get to KK but if he keeps this garbage up, that humidity will knock him out by the 4th or 5th inning. Just throw K’s, man.
10 pitch first inning for Santana. Almost 30 for KK.
Yeeep, he’ll probably pitch his regulation 6 innings then turn it over to the pen.
Whew. Gotta limit the walks KK.
Steve from OH
I swear the the braves want to help him pad is horrible average.
This would actually be a clever plan. Minaya would fall hook, line, and sinker for it, I’m fairly certain.

When Kawakami goes into his four corners offense it’s like watching paint dry….
Hey, I wasn’t able to get on the blog last night — did we ever get a distance for the McCann and LaRoche homeruns? Couldn’t find that in the game stories.
Kris Medlen better get loose
Did anyone see that Andruw Jones at bat in the 9th last night? Tragic. Slider low and away that he looked helpless on with a check swing that they ump should have called a strike, followed by a fastball up and in that he ripped deep foul, followed by a slider low and away that he looked hapless on.
Why any team hits Frenchy and Andruw with anything other than a low and away slider, fastball up and in combo is incomprehensible

Red Sox sign Smoltz.
Red Sox let Smoltz go.
Braves sign Kawakami.
Braves keep sending him out to pitch.
Get the point here?
August 20th, 20097:37 pm
It’s beyond me too.
good to see the boys at least attempt to work some counts
August 20th, 20097:38 pm
Santana’s pace is 81 pitches for the whole game. KK’s is 100 in less than 5 innings.
I like how quick the Braves are getting out at the pitch…you don’t want your starting pitcher sitting on the bench too long, for fear of him getting rusty.
No More Bobby obviously didn’t bother to read DOB’s blog…
Comparing John Smotlz 2009 to Kenshin Kawakami 2009 is laughable.
Santana may no hit us tonight.
August 20th, 20097:39 pm
Kawakami’s struggles aren’t even remotely close to Smoltz’s — who was getting BOMBED on a regular basis.
KK has actually been a pretty good pitcher this season, even though some fans don’t want to admit it. He’s probably not worth what he’s getting, but he’s certainly been better than John F’n Smoltz.
August 20th, 20097:40 pm
Anderson is out?
Chipper for State Senate
+1 Kurdt, KK dominates Smoltz this season.
Go get ‘em Reid!
Garrett Anderson hurt?
Is there a direct line to the dugout in Jackson, Miss.?
Can he be in Atlanta by tomorrow?
Ugh…why does Santana hafta pitch tonight???
No…never got a distance. We were told they were hit “far”.
Awaiting word on Anderson, why he came out.
August 20th, 20097:41 pm
I like Kawakami too.. he is way better than most 3-4-5 pitchers and many teams… he is just surrounded with a lot of talent — maybe, just maybe, if the bats would help him he would be better…
Loaf has come out in support Sheff
CrimeDog – I quit reading DOB back in July.
August 20th, 20097:42 pm
On the downside, now JHP (figure it out, Chop Chop) is gonna go waaay up…
Kensin Kawakami: My Maserati does One-eighty-five.
Kelly Johnson: I lost my license. Now I don’t drive.
lol hillbilly, funny stuff
Uh oh. Loafy, what it be?
I hope it’s just some kinda “physical” problem….and not that one that Reyes caught…
Maybe with Anderson out Bobby the bowser with finally call up Hayward
August 20th, 20097:43 pm
CrimeDog – I quit reading DOB back in July
I’m sure DOB is devastated.
I’m gunna guess Anderson has a leg issue
August 20th, 20097:44 pm
Much better inning for KK there.
Well, we can say this.
Gorecki can NOT look any worse against Santana than Garrett did in that first AB.
keep ‘em like that, Kenshi
Much much better. There we go KK.
Braves hitting approach when facing Cy Young caliber pitchers is very simple – make up your mind that since the pitcher is so good, you will be lucky to get any hits or walks anyway, especially late in the count. Hence just close your eyes and hack at anything in the vicinity of the plate. Do not try to make the guy work, wanna get beat by the Ace, not the opposition bullpen.
Hillbilly any momre verses?
Brooks Conrad, jump on a plane to the Big A
No More, No More Bobby
you are a one trick pony dude… Bobby will be here awhile, deal with it…
Hey, little cameo from Rome, GA where the AJC is covering dixie like the dew….and bringing you an update from the debut of first round pick Mike Minor…..Two perfect innings, two strikeouts vs. the Charleston Riverdogs. He threw 24 pitches, 16 for strikes. First pitch strikes to each of the six batters he faced. That’s the control we’ve heard about. Very nice outing, especially considering he had two months of sitting at home before he signed with the Braves. ….caught a glimpse of the radar gun.

I heard someone say “ballgame!”
Thought it was over and wanted to be first for the massage.
Loaf on a Blackberry getting a massage from the Trainer's Room
I think I hear David O’Brien knocking on the door…Quick what do we tell em’???
I’m guessing Brandon Jones is next in line…
Good inning KK.
Anderson HURT!! Free Jason Heyward!!
sorry, meant to say, his fastball was at 91. Fine.
He quit reading DOB in July, but yet he keeps coming to the blog. Go figure. This is like me saying I don’t drink that bartender’s beer, but I sit in his bar every night.
maybe im missing somthing, but when has kawakami struggled on any level compared to how smoltz sruggled wih the red sox?
nice inning for KK
August 20th, 20097:46 pm
Brooks Conrad neever should have been demoted, Bobby should drop Norton call up Conrad then bring in Heyward. The post season would definitly come then.

That may not be the lamest analogy I have ever heard but it’s damn sure in the top five.
Great to hear, Carroll.
Loaf Garret on a blackberry chillin in the air conditioning....FINALLY
told ya I didn’t want to get sticky icky. uh oh, here comes Bobby! can’t let him see me on the blackberry….. gotta go!
Loaf multi-tasking on two blackberries at the same time?
Come on guys, get us a couple on the board. Pretty please.
Lower back strain for Anderson, day-to-day.
August 20th, 20097:47 pm
Thanks for the update, Carroll! An encouraging start for Minor. Are you staying for the entire game?
Ladies and gentleman, Adam Freakin LaRoche.
Yeah I really miss Casey Kotchmen.
Get em over Church
LaRoche ends the no-hit bid….should be batting 4th. No one is playing better.
August 20th, 20097:48 pm
nobody’s ever accused him of having any sense…
Good stuff for Minor.
Boog’s mom is at the game! She’s got red hair, just like Boog.
Great…GA down now? Perfect…
GA injured his back, must have been in the way he swung.
Go Roach, break up that perfect game / no hitter!!!
Lower back strain. Sounds like Loaf and Mateeeeeen may have something in common
That’s three hard-hit balls in the last four batters for the Braves.
August 20th, 20097:49 pm
Loaf on a Blackberry getting a massage from the Trainer’s Room
LOL whoever you are, that was perfect timing.
And now four of five. Nice job, Church.
Get the bunt down, KK.
Roach & Church. Awesome.
Woooo! Take that Manuel!
I love the speed that LaRoche and Church bring to this line-up.
churchy thata boy!!!!
f’n A churchie
KK has pitched big against some great pitchers. He has to wiggle off lots of hooks, but his results speak for themselves. Like DOB said, better run support and his record would match his effectiveness…
Glad to see somebody else… can throw a “lousy” 0-2 pitch….
Church says: “Take that you piece of sheeeeeot, Manuel!”
August 20th, 20097:50 pm
That Church is a different kind of animal…
there you go, make Jeff earn that paycheck, keep him running!
Sac bunt by KK
The Real Loaf Garret on a blackberry from the clubhouse
uh oh, here comes Bobby! can’t let him see me on the blackberry….. gotta go!
Faker. We all know Bobby ain’t fixin’a get up during a game.
Not textbook, but she’ll do. Nice job, KK.
It worked…but that is not exactly the textbook.
no two hotter hitters in baseball right now than LaRoche and Church
August 20th, 20097:51 pm
Stole it from you my man…I give you all the credit…but yeah pretty funny stuff.
