well Rocky I can tell you still aren’t fascinated with him because you can’t spell his name correctly. Kid still has talent and is very young, at least it provided the front office with a lesson so that the same doesn’t happen to Heyward.
Schafer is fast, solid defensively, and with a good OBP could be a great leadoff man…The steroid issue wasn’t proven, and his wrist was hurt this season. I personally would like to see what a healthy Schafer could do…I second your last comments about getting to santana and moving up the WC standings
August 20th, 20096:38 pm
RockyBrave – “Lets get to Santana early tonite and then move past the Marlins in the wild card standing this weekend!!”
I Like Your Thinking! Is an 8 run first too much to ask?

why is David Wright posting here under the name METSFAN4LIFE?
post concussion syndrome?
Have you guys seen the Falcon’s throwbacks? I’m kind of liking them:
August 20th, 20096:42 pm
I like the Falcon’s throwbacks better than their current uniforms
Deal With The Devil
August 20th, 20096:43 pm
All I’m Saying Is…
Hot hand be damned, When a player (Infante) has 24 AB’s against a pitcher of Santana’s stature and only 2 hits…. that trumps any hot hand he may have coming into tonight. Twenty four AB’s are enough to make a statement that Infante doesn’t have much success against Santana.
I’ll take the guy who is 7-18 lifetime against Santana over the guy who is 2-24. This is coming from someone who isn’t even a KJ fan.
sidslidkid – I kinda like them too. Just not a big fan of red helmets with black unis. It’s only for one game though so it’s ok.
Love the old school red helmets.
August 20th, 20096:44 pm
BMac’s 0-6 against Santana this year…Just means he’s due!
August 20th, 20096:47 pm
Soph, the red helmets are my favorite part! I hope they wear them every year.
August 20th, 20096:49 pm
Kenshin Kawakami is Chuck James
First 22 starts of 2007 for Chuck James:
121.7 IP, 124 hits, 50 walks, 88 Ks, 18 HRs, 3.70 ERA
First 22 starts of 2009 for Kenshin Kawakami:
124.3 IP, 119 hits, 49 walks, 85 Ks, 15 HRs, 4.13 ERA
It’s quite comical to read the same folks who slaughtered Chuck James sing the praises of Kawakami.
August 20th, 20096:51 pm
sidslidkid – I don’t mind the red helmets but it’s the combination of colors the black jerseys with red helmets that I don’t like. Maybe they’ll grow on me though.
August 20th, 20096:52 pm
Those throwbacks are great. I’d like to see the Bravos wear some throwbacks, keeps things interesting.
It would be real easy to compare Frenchy to Church since the trade and say Mets got the best of the deal…
But, what if we compare offensive production from right field since Frenchy left, how would that compare?
I believe Diaz’s stats alone place the Braves with better right field stats. I would be interested in what our ranking and production has been for right field (in the National League) since Frenchy left.
I would say the Braves moved up sseveral notches since the trade.
Not to mention the fact, if Frenchy is still here with McClouth on DL, we would be stuck calling up Blanco to play CF or Infante’ playing CF and KJ on at 2B while Prado is down (calling up Blanco for backup).
August 20th, 20096:53 pm
Sheff being Sheff again — not playing tonight, pouting because he wants Mets to sign him to an extension. Almost without fail, every city he plays in, it ends this way when his contract is running out and he wants security without waiting to negotiate in offseason.
Billy Wagner was activated, by the way. Livan Hernandez released today to open a spot.
I love the Falcon throwbacks!!!
The current logo/uni looks too Power-Ranger-Ish…
I liked that Churchy interview. He’s pretty sincere when he answers those stupid questions that Jerome Jurenovich (or however you spell it) asks.
August 20th, 20096:54 pm
I like the Falcon throwbacks too. Classic look. Oh and I agree with THWG. I would love to see the braves go retro for a couple of home games. Preferably Sunday games because I can’t stand those red jersey’s.
DOB – Can we block MetsFan4Life. He is the most annoying little mosquito.
Let’s hope to god KK is not Chuck James!
Why is Roachy hitting 7th even if he is facing a lefty…?
Roachy has been our hottest hitter, WTF Booby…!
August 20th, 20096:56 pm
I have to say this time I don’t mind Sheff being Sheff. Other than Frenchy and the way he’s been swinging up thier he’s their biggest power threat so its all good in my book.
lol @ this
“The current logo/uni looks too Power-Ranger-Ish…”
It really does.
Wow, Sheff being a butt as usual.
August 20th, 20096:57 pm
wow those comparisons between chuck and kk are scary
August 20th, 20096:58 pm
When do you think the Braves will get new uniforms? (I talking a complete re design not just adding a colored jersey)
August 20th, 20096:59 pm
Billy Wagner….never thought he would be back
Braveheart, the difference is that KK has more than 2 pitches. Chuck James did all his work with the fastball and changeup and once hitters figured that out and learned his pattern then they beat him up. KK has plenty of pitches and changes speeds
August 20th, 20097:00 pm
Let’s go Braves…and Nationals, Diamondbacks and Astros
August 20th, 20097:01 pm
I don’t think the Braves will change their unis anytime soon. I’m still surprised they sorta replaced the gray unis with the blue one.
not that it’s saying a ton, but chuck james never won the japanese version of the cy young. also, I don’t think KK installed windows during the offseason for his offseason workouts. i don’t believe that comparison for a second. he might not end up as good as he has been lately, but he cannot be as bad as james.
August 20th, 20097:02 pm
Don Sutton is going over last nights starters on WGST… either that or the MLB.com feed is running last nights pregame
Beat me to saying it Will but I was about to say the exact thing about the pitches. The results may be similar but Chuck James got worse as he went along. KK is getting better.
August 20th, 20097:03 pm
Tomahawkin: Agree wholeheartedly on Falcons unis. Their old uniforms, including the old Falcon and simpler pants/jerseys, were classic. The new ones, like so many other NFL teams, look way too modern and cheap.
I know this is a hair off-subject, but there shoulda been a mob waiting with a rope when this Lockerbie bomber was released… Compassionate release for terminal illness? Everybody dies of something terminal don’t they?
Same thing for Susan Atkins, who murdered a very pregnant Sharon Tate. Folks are calling for her compassionate release due to an inoperable brain tumor. Sharon Tate didn’t get a compassionate release from Susan Atkins, though she begged for the lives of her baby and herself.
OK, back to baseball and throwback unis…
August 20th, 20097:05 pm
Braveheart, the difference is that KK has more than 2 pitches. Chuck James did all his work with the fastball and changeup and once hitters figured that out and learned his pattern then they beat him up.
Not really true. What happened is that after that 22nd start, Chuck James tore his rotator cuff in early August 2007, and was never the same. But so long as Kawakami doesn’t tear his rotator cuff, I wouldn’t expect him to be much better than the Chuck Jamesian without a torn rotator cuff results he’s been putting up. That’s not bad though, despite what everyone likes to think about Chuck James these days
Soph, I don’t mind our uniforms. I hope they keep them for a while. It a good classic look. Nothing to fancy or trendy, and they don’t look like a AAA team like the D-Back or Marlins.
Nova Scotia Steve
August 20th, 20097:06 pm
GAME TIME…Thank David DeJesus
Anybody happen to have a link to the game?
August 20th, 20097:07 pm
Glad Sheff is pouting again…..Now dont throw Francouer a single strike tonite
sidslidkid – agreed, I like the Braves uniforms too. I HATE the Rockies, Reds, and D’Backs. Anything where they have to wear a t-shirt inside because the actual uniform is sleeveless. Don’t like them at all.
I love the navy blue uni’s and hats…think they look great.
Going to order one of both…
August 20th, 20097:09 pm
Yes, what Mike Cameron is to DAP, Martin Prado is to Bobby’x Cox, KJ is to Steve from Ohio, Chuck James, Frenchy and Betemit are to me I pick some real winners to fight to the death for
So the diagnosis on PRado is “Exertional Headaches”.
D E F I N I T I O N:
Exertional headaches are a group of headache syndromes, which are associated with some physical activity. These headaches typically become severe very quickly after a strenuous activity such as weight lifting or sexual intercourse. Exertional headaches can, in some instances, be a sign of abnormalities in the brain or other diseases. Activities that can precipitate these headaches include running, coughing, sneezing, sexual intercourse, and straining with bowel movements.
Come on martin……..isnt your team more important than having sex all night long? Give it a break my friend, we need you on the team.
August 20th, 20097:11 pm
DOB, I take it you aren’t a fan of Sheff?
True Braveheart but if memory serves me correct it wasn’t like he lost live on the fastball or anything when he came back. Just seemed like he was finally figured out by hitters. He tried developing that third pitch but it neve worked out.
Steve from OH
August 20th, 20097:12 pm
Doc–haven’t you listened to a thing Paul Lentz has been teaching us about pro athletes and sex?
August 20th, 20097:14 pm
TnBrian, do you know anyone who is a fan on Sheff?
August 20th, 20097:15 pm
Chipper Jones – 0 for his last 14.
August 20th, 20097:16 pm
sidslidkid: TnBrian, do you know anyone who is a fan on Sheff?
August 20th, 20097:17 pm
Man, I wish Chipper would get in a groove. Watching him struggle is hard to take.
Shef and Bonds are close too. So, I imagine that makes a fan club of two.
Mike Minor with his first start for Rome tonight.
I think Tomahawkin was right…
Have we lost some of our bloggers because we’re a couple games of the pace???
Braveheart, Sadly I too bought a first class ticket on the Betemit bandwagon.
August 20th, 20097:18 pm
sidslidkid, Chipper said Sheff was the best teammate he’d ever had and I did like him when he was a Brave. Not so much now, obviously, but the guy’s always had very good things to say about Bobby Cox and the Braves.
God Bless Us All
August 20th, 20097:19 pm
Ok, KK it’s all you guy. Make us proud.
Shamus Thacker…. Touché sir. Very good point.
August 20th, 20097:20 pm
Those old loopin curve balls
All time worst bloggers
Who is the worst “regular” on this blog?
August 20th, 20097:21 pm
August 20th, 20097:22 pm
A 3-1 bunt attempt? 2nd place hitter or not…that is stupid.
That right there is what makes this man so frustrating to watch….
Wish I was John Smoltz
Like my moniker, wish I could make almost 20 million dollars in 2 years and only have to appear in 15-16 games.
August 20th, 20097:23 pm
Since when did going opposite field become going “OPPO”?
I hate it
francoeur batting clean up tonight…he did well for us in that spot
TnBrian, That’s a big statement from Chipper. Glavine, Maddox, McCann, Ediie Perez, and Huddy all seem like they’d be better team mates to me. But all I know is what the media tells me and they don’t like Sheff.
August 20th, 20097:24 pm
Hats off to me (JS) for being a warrior!
Gil In Mechanicsville
Kawakami has reverted to his slow tempo…
No strikes for JF….none!
Steady diet of down and away sliders to francoeur please
August 20th, 20097:25 pm
Louisville brave -
That works for me!
August 20th, 20097:26 pm
Why? Why give him a ball in the strike zone? Makes no sense. None.
Grandma could hit that pitch…jesus KK
based on this 1st inning, I think that Kawakami is going to either be A) phenomenal (and the Braves will win); or B) really good, giving up about 2 runs in 6 innings. with the key likely being not to try and ride him too long.
It “seems” like in the games where he is pretty good, but not great, things start getting a little erratic around the 6th/7th.
KK is up with all of his pitches… go out and talk to him Brian.
August 20th, 20097:27 pm
Heath, Agree. I don’t understand why any pitcher, let alone a Braves pitcher, throws strikes to F-coeur.
August 20th, 20097:28 pm
Velocity isn’t very telling when it comes to injuries. John Smoltz didn’t lose any velocity last season, but the pain was killing him. Hudson had some moments last season where he mysteriously lost velocity, but his radar readings on average weren’t much different than they had been.
As the pain got worse and worse, Smoltz went from throwing his fastball 56% of the time in 2005 to throwing it only 41% of the time last season even though his velocity remain unchanged. So imagine the pain Chuck felt. Unfortunately, for him, he didn’t have the fallback pitches Smoltz had. He was more reliant than Smoltz on the fastball. With injuries, the inability to locate is often more telling than velocity, which too often remains unchanged unlike the ability to locate.
It wasn’t really that they figured him out. It was more that he had a screwed up delivery anyway that was an injury waiting to happen because he never followed through, but once he got hurt, he was further impeded in his ability to follow through, which left more balls up and in the wrong spot up in the zone.
For a team that should — and does — know exactly how to pitch Francoeur, only Jurrjens has really executed the gameplan against him. That was belt-high fastball over the middle while ago.
August 20th, 20097:29 pm
Joe S. can crack me up, man.
KK needs to get his head out of his butt and focus!
Kenshin “And the 3-2 pitch” Kawakami
Who the F%$# is Corey Sullivan? And why did we just walk him?
2 walks, 2 Ks, and a double .. it’s anyone’s guess as to how this will go (but I think 5-6 innings is a given)
August 20th, 20097:30 pm
GREAT START BOYS
This game could, literally, be over in the first inning if KK doesn’t get out of this.
KK throws “strikes” to the guys he needs to throw “balls’ to….and “balls” to the guys he needs to throw “strikes” to..other than that…he’s fine…
Well. Not “literally” i guess.
Now let’s get ready for “at least” three straight balls
KK needs to get his stuff together goodness gracious.
August 20th, 20097:31 pm
What kinda grub’s in the pressbox DOB??
Chipper for State Senate
Seriously, Dave O’B. How many times did they watch him wiff at everything now hes the only one who hits us? Makes no sense. I swear the the braves want to help him pad is horrible average.
2-2 now…oh boy.
Not sure how they’re laying off those 58-foot curveballs.
August 20th, 20097:32 pm
damn we gonna watch KK give up an 8 spot?
Well what do you know gets ahead of Tatis 0-2 and gets out of it try that a little more why dont you KK.
Phew… lets not do that again.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
