well Rocky I can tell you still aren’t fascinated with him because you can’t spell his name correctly. Kid still has talent and is very young, at least it provided the front office with a lesson so that the same doesn’t happen to Heyward.

Schafer is fast, solid defensively, and with a good OBP could be a great leadoff man…The steroid issue wasn’t proven, and his wrist was hurt this season. I personally would like to see what a healthy Schafer could do…I second your last comments about getting to santana and moving up the WC standings

All I’m Saying Is…
Hot hand be damned, When a player (Infante) has 24 AB’s against a pitcher of Santana’s stature and only 2 hits…. that trumps any hot hand he may have coming into tonight. Twenty four AB’s are enough to make a statement that Infante doesn’t have much success against Santana.
I’ll take the guy who is 7-18 lifetime against Santana over the guy who is 2-24. This is coming from someone who isn’t even a KJ fan.

It would be real easy to compare Frenchy to Church since the trade and say Mets got the best of the deal…
But, what if we compare offensive production from right field since Frenchy left,how would that compare?
I believe Diaz’s stats alone place the Braves with better right field stats. I would be interested in what our ranking and production has been for right field (in the National League) since Frenchy left.
I would say the Braves moved up sseveral notches since the trade.
Not to mention the fact, if Frenchy is still here with McClouth on DL, we would be stuck calling up Blanco to play CF or Infante’ playing CF and KJ on at 2B while Prado is down (calling up Blanco for backup).

Sheff being Sheff again — not playing tonight, pouting because he wants Mets to sign him to an extension. Almost without fail, every city he plays in, it ends this way when his contract is running out and he wants security without waiting to negotiate in offseason.
Billy Wagner was activated, by the way. Livan Hernandez released today to open a spot.

Braveheart, the difference is that KK has more than 2 pitches. Chuck James did all his work with the fastball and changeup and once hitters figured that out and learned his pattern then they beat him up. KK has plenty of pitches and changes speeds

not that it’s saying a ton, but chuck james never won the japanese version of the cy young. also, I don’t think KK installed windows during the offseason for his offseason workouts. i don’t believe that comparison for a second. he might not end up as good as he has been lately, but he cannot be as bad as james.

Tomahawkin: Agree wholeheartedly on Falcons unis. Their old uniforms, including the old Falcon and simpler pants/jerseys, were classic. The new ones, like so many other NFL teams, look way too modern and cheap.

I know this is a hair off-subject, but there shoulda been a mob waiting with a rope when this Lockerbie bomber was released… Compassionate release for terminal illness? Everybody dies of something terminal don’t they?
Same thing for Susan Atkins, who murdered a very pregnant Sharon Tate. Folks are calling for her compassionate release due to an inoperable brain tumor. Sharon Tate didn’t get a compassionate release from Susan Atkins, though she begged for the lives of her baby and herself.

Not really true. What happened is that after that 22nd start, Chuck James tore his rotator cuff in early August 2007, and was never the same. But so long as Kawakami doesn’t tear his rotator cuff, I wouldn’t expect him to be much better than the Chuck Jamesian without a torn rotator cuff results he’s been putting up. That’s not bad though, despite what everyone likes to think about Chuck James these days

Soph, I don’t mind our uniforms. I hope they keep them for a while. It a good classic look. Nothing to fancy or trendy, and they don’t look like a AAA team like the D-Back or Marlins.

sidslidkid – agreed, I like the Braves uniforms too. I HATE the Rockies, Reds, and D’Backs. Anything where they have to wear a t-shirt inside because the actual uniform is sleeveless. Don’t like them at all.

True Braveheart but if memory serves me correct it wasn’t like he lost live on the fastball or anything when he came back. Just seemed like he was finally figured out by hitters. He tried developing that third pitch but it neve worked out.

based on this 1st inning, I think that Kawakami is going to either be A) phenomenal (and the Braves will win); or B) really good, giving up about 2 runs in 6 innings. with the key likely being not to try and ride him too long.
It “seems” like in the games where he is pretty good, but not great, things start getting a little erratic around the 6th/7th.

Velocity isn’t very telling when it comes to injuries. John Smoltz didn’t lose any velocity last season, but the pain was killing him. Hudson had some moments last season where he mysteriously lost velocity, but his radar readings on average weren’t much different than they had been.
As the pain got worse and worse, Smoltz went from throwing his fastball 56% of the time in 2005 to throwing it only 41% of the time last season even though his velocity remain unchanged. So imagine the pain Chuck felt. Unfortunately, for him, he didn’t have the fallback pitches Smoltz had. He was more reliant than Smoltz on the fastball. With injuries, the inability to locate is often more telling than velocity, which too often remains unchanged unlike the ability to locate.
It wasn’t really that they figured him out. It was more that he had a screwed up delivery anyway that was an injury waiting to happen because he never followed through, but once he got hurt, he was further impeded in his ability to follow through, which left more balls up and in the wrong spot up in the zone.
