Oh yeah, I cann usually dig up any BMac stat you want. Baseball-reference.com makes it pretty easy. And with that particular stat, I just had to look for high-scoring games in which BMac had more than one hit. That narrowed it down pretty good.
Yeah, not sure if he knows it or not…and two homers in one inning would be really sweet. I know there was a guy a few years ago who hit two grand slams in one inning–now that I’m sure is really rare!
Jason–
I think he’s heating up…been looking much better at the plate the last couple games. I know what you mean about the homer, though…he hit that one on Saturday, but there was something about last night’s homer…it was a beauty! Wish they would have told us how far it flew!
Hope I didn’t just put the hex on him.
Haha…well, I’m about to go write about it in my diary–if you didn’t put the hex on him, that sure will!

To answer your question mitchell, we do occasionally get opposing team’s fans on our blog. Not really any braves fans, I do know of a couple of Phillie and Marlin fans that get on there and really trash talk us.
Efrim, Heath–I thought it was interesting, but my main beef with it was that the way the draft is currently set up, there’s 50 rounds…so how can the Yankees sign 30-40 players with a mere 2MM like Cameron suggests? I’m all for his idea to equalize talent, but that method seems like it would make it difficult for teams to have enough players to fill out their minor league ranks…

Man…. is it me or is it humid as a MF?? hope the old man gives me a breather cause i don’t wanna get all sticky icky out there. FYI and just between us—- Nate is bobbin his head to some Britney Spears right now. PEACE!
Yeah, as for the “big game” comments. I don’t really see this on the same level as Roy Halladay or Dice-K in Boston. Those were really big games.
The game in LA was by far the best. He took it to a whole… notha… level. Might have been the best pitching performance of the season. That one was huge.
The thing about this one is that our un-ace blew it in the first game so now this becomes even more significant. It’s obviously important so that we keep pace in the Wild Card standings and perhaps more so in that it would give us some momentum for the Marlins series.
If not for D-Lowe, we’d have already won the series and there wouldn’t be the pressure to not lose tonight. Of course then there’s the thought of embarrassing ourselves by losing to a pathetic Mets team. You definitely don’t want that.
It wouldn’t be that big of a deal if we had won the first game. He just needs to go out and throw strikes and take care of an inferior offense and not worry about Santana.
I wouldn’t trade Vazquez. What if Hanson or JJ went down for an extended period next year? What if Huddy doesn’t make it through June? What if both scenarios played-out? We’d be up to our azz in hurt without JV…
Metsfan4life, they have places that can help you. Seriously. Man, the pipe is not the way to go. “The 2009 NL East Champions”. Wow. You really need to get some help.

Wayne in Utah: I agree your view is probably more the way it WILL go. I just would like to see the team push the envelope a little harder to get us to a truly World Series contender, not just a team that makes the playoffs and loses in the 1st or 2nd series.
Stop coming over on this board talking smack. Your team is miserable this year. The Braves at least have a chance to make it the playoffs. Your team has ZERO, so what is the point of you coming over here?
O’Brien–Great article on Medlen. For once it wasn’t about Tommy Hanson. I’m glad someone has started to notice his numbers. He just needs to be used more often or at least more consistantly like they were right after the break. He needs to work.
Soph, I’ve been waiting for you tonight. Not in that way.
Anyway, I have tennis again tonight but I wasn’t going to go because I need to see this game with my own eyes and not have to get in my car at like 8:45 and wait for ten minutes to find out the score from Don Sutton and Jim Powell.
But then again, I feel like we’ll (the Braves) probably win and when I’m playing I completely forget about the game anyway, but the sh***y thing is on Tuesday I was playing down to these people who I’m way better than and then got in a rut and couldn’t make anything. So I was already pissed to begin with before I even got in my car and heard the f***ing score and then I wanted to run somebody over.
I kind of want to play now so I can bring the hammer down and put them back in their place, but I don’t know.
I think MetsFan4Life decided the best way to avoid another injury was to play a man down out of the gate. Starting 8, huh? “It’s a bold move, Cotton, let’s see if it pays off.”
I did actually have a few comments the other night in response to D-f***ing-Lowe’s meltdown on Tuesday but they got omitted for some reason. But I was trying to milk it there for a while.
I don’t remember what I did last night. I saw the game, for some reason I just didn’t hit up the old blog.
Must not be a good place to fall out of Citi Field. Folks use to fall (jump) to their deaths at Shea all the time. Guess now they go home and shoot themselves…
Rammerjammer, maybe you haven’t been. The guy makes smart baseball moves regardless of loyalty. A smart move here would be to decide if Hudson’s going to be able to offset the loss of either a Kawakami, Lowe, OR Vazquez, and trade one of them. Not exercising the option would be like trading one of the four of them away while getting nothing back. This ain’t alex rios, it’s a front end starter.
Give me your opinion: 7th game of the World Series, who would you want pitching for your team, KK or Santana?”
Jay I think you missed the point…DOB clearly stated he is not putting KK in the same league as Johan, so the answer to your question is obvious, whether it be Game 7 or any in between.

the giants lost, and im sure the rockies, marlins and phillies will to…of course on the night we face santana.. well in my attempt to be more positive at least if that be the case we won’t lose any more ground with a loss.
Kenshin Kawakami has defeated Roy Halladay, Dice K, (in Boston, granted he’s been struggling and injured but it was a pressure packed matchup none to less), Zambrano in Chicago and Kershaw in LA (most recently, although he didn’t get the win against Clayton, he matched him in a scoreless duel until the Braves won the game later on).
So I’d say those rate as 4 pretty big starts that the Braves have ended up winning the games, he’s kept them and outpitched or matched the other big time pitcher.
Hudson in 2010 will be in a walk year, owed 12 million and coming off TJ. Vazquez in 2010 is coming off a strong-to-dominant season (top ten in IP, ERA, Ks). My point was that no one should think sentiment plays a role in Frank Wren’s thinking. Just because Hudson says he can’t imagine pitching anywhere else doesn’t mean Frank is thinking the same thing.
Just gave the first few cuts from the new DBT album, The Fine Print, a spin. Pretty damn good, as usual. Great version of Dylan’s ” Like a Rolling Stone “. The 1st track, George Jones Cell Phone Blues, is classic DBT…
Still think Mike Cooley is one of the most underrated songwriters/ guitar players of the last 10 years. Dude can write some tunes…
Lineup:
1. O. Infante, 2B
2. G. Anderson, LF
3. C. Jones, 3B
4. B. McCann, C
5. Y. Escobar, SS
6. M. Diaz, RF
7. A. LaRoche, 1B
8. R. Church, CF
9. K. Kawakami, P
Hudson in 2010 will be in a walk year, owed 12 million and coming off TJ. Vazquez in 2010 is coming off a strong-to-dominant season (top ten in IP, ERA, Ks). ***********
Right, it also means that Javy has pitched “out of his mind this year” and his trade value will probably never be higher (in the off-season). With an affordable year let on a contract, plenty of suitors will be out there if Wren decideds to shop him on the block.
In the meantime…If you let Hudson go you GET NOTHING but payroll relief. Oh, you also let the team’s Ace go on top of that, for those who are into the thing of assigning pitchers 1,2,3,4,5 whatever starter slot.
I’m a firm believer if Hudson comes back healthy, and proves to the Braves that he can start and be counted on in 2010…
that either Javy Vazquez or Kenshin Kawakami will be traded this off-season. For either prospects and or an outfielder.
TnBrian: Why does Boog have to P-E-R-F-E-C-T-L-Y pronounce every word? Anybody else notice that or am I just weird?”"
Anybody remember how Andy started trying to talk proper in the latter (post-Barney) Andy Griffith Shows? In the Gawd-awful Mayberry RFD, he got even more proper. He was gabbin like Gloria Vanderbilt by that time.
If you really want Infante in the lineup, put him in CF and get Kelly in there at 2b! Oh well, hopefully we score so many runs it won’t even be an issue…
Cheese, Schafer was suppose to try swinging this past Monday but I haven’t heard an update. Unless it went really well I wouldn’t be suprised if they just shut him down and tell him to go play somewhere in the fall.
Joey, are you serious because I wasn’t. I was talking trash about Chipper and then made a joke about it how critical I was being of him and then I told him to go to hell because, see, that’s what I do.
I can’t help myself. It’s just laughs a minute with Mitchell.
Bay Area Steve, that hurt. I hope there’s an earthquake and then you get sucked into a fault line, or something like that.
Pitching matchups for Florida series (only Sanchez is tentative, but he’s likely to come off DL to start tomorrow, will be confirmed one way or another after game tonight):
Friday: Vazquez vs. RH Anibal Sanchez
Saturday: Hanson vs. RH Chris Volstad
Sunday: Lowe vs. RH Ricky Nolasco
Garbage: When’s that coming out? Can’t wait to hear it. I’ve got that DBT live “Like A Rolling Stone” that they did on an EP a few years back. Great stuff.
I have no problem with “payroll relief” in 2010. Our closers are free agents. Our LF is a 2.5M bargain who probably won’t be back. And forgive me for not handing the job to Schafer. So, yeah, I’m all over payroll relief cause we’ll need it to shore up the OF and bullpen.
And as for Javy pitching “out of his mind,” well, it was predicted by many that he would thrive away from Ozzie’s nonsense and in Bobby’s care. And that’s just how it’s happened. He’s been a rock from day one and there’s no logical reason to expect him to fall apart in 2010.
I say go play and kick their ass. Payback’s a you know what. Hopefully, the Braves will be putting a beatdown on Santana when you get in your car this time.
Oh…I don’t get the lineup tonight, but I’ve come to the point where I don’t care what the order is, so long as it works. I don’t care where BMac bats, so long as he produces. Obviously I’d still rather he bat fifth…
If we are losing when you’re done playing (which we WON’T be), you have to promise you’ll go off so that I can feel better about losing. I’m sure T’Hawkin will appreciate it too.
ASSUMING and I repeat, assuming, Hudson goesinto the rotation when he’s “ready”, strong>DOB, who would you replace? Sounds like you might want to replace Lowe. I still feel that if Hudson does go back into the rotation Kawakami would be the likely move. OR is there any chance of going to a six man rotation?
Those would be the three that the braves would pick if they had their choice.
Avoid Johnson who is 4-1 against us and avoid West who the braves haven’t seen and we know how those games turn out.
Sanchez is 2-3 with a 5.08era against us.
Nolasco is 1-4 with a 4.79era against us.
Volstad is 1-1 with a 3.32era against us.
great article. a round of applause. Hopefully, this will get more people on the KK bandwagon. He may be a bit over-paid, but not anymore than Lowe and definitely a good back end rotation starter. Also, I hope he stays in the rotation and huddy (or lowe?) goes into the pen.
finally, what about giving chipper a day off. He hasn’t really been doing much lately (lots of K’s). Put infante at 3B and KJ at 2B, win-win!
To answer your question mitchell, we do occasionally get opposing team’s fans on our blog. Not really any braves fans, I do know of a couple of Phillie and Marlin fans that get on there and really trash talk us.
Braves fans bash each other right here on our own blog why bother with the mutts blog!
For the life of me, I cannot understand bloggers here fascination with Jordan Schaefer. First of all, he lost 1/3 of the season at AAA last year due to the steroid issue. Then, his numbers for the rest of the year at Richmond were not even acceptable for a major league centerfielder. This year has been a total bust for him, He was overmatched by major league pitching and it was very apparent. Now,he still cannot play due to the wrist injury , so 2 years now has been wasted. I see no way he could even be penciled in as a back-up outfielder for 2010. Lets get to Santana early tonite and then move past the Marlins in the wild card standing this weekend!!

I almost hope Chipper isn’t playing tonight. We won three in a row against the Dodgers the other week without him.
I kind of enjoy winning games when he’s not playing even more. Of course he has his attitude and thinks they can’t compete without him.
Based on his comments after the lost to the Dodgers in the series opener he sounded like he was ready to retire.
I’m tired of his attitude. He’s so pessimistic.

My point was that no one should think sentiment plays a role in Frank Wren’s thinking. Just because Hudson says he can’t imagine pitching anywhere else doesn’t mean Frank is thinking the same thing.

Why is it that they always face the tough lefties the day after they get some good momentum going?
Well, to be more precise…Why is it that they always face the tough lefties the day after BMac starts a good hitting streak?

I fully expect KK to add Santana’s “scalp” to his “ace killer resume tonight”.
What say you, sir!

I guess Bobby starting Infante over Johnson even considering the numbers has something to do with a gut feeling.
Another gut feeling Bobby had was that Lowe was gonna get the ground ball double play the other night before the Mets got nine hits and 8 runs!

Supes,
I have no problem with “payroll relief” in 2010.

DOB,
great article. a round of applause.
