DOB, I have to say, that Kings of Leon song is so gay.
I mean, I like that Brian at least has branched out from the typical rap/ country combination that every player seems to be into.
I will never understand how even teenage girls like my cousin find both gangster rap and the most god awful modern country conservative propaganda bs music equally appealing. It’s all @#$%.
Sorry, I just hate everything I guess.
Every country song these days on the radio is like a three minute little blue collar fantasy about living in the “real America”, drivin’ a f***in’ pick-up truck, punchin’ a clock man… sung by a bunch of f***ing cowboy hat wearing millionaires.
And why do we all have to pretend like rap doesn’t suck. Rap is awful. Of all the great music and art black people have given the world, rap is the one thing that doesn’t evolve. It doesn’t go anywhere. Rap can only become rap. That being said, I like a lot of early rap and hip hop (Run DMC, LL Cool J) but it hasn’t gotten much better than that.
I mean, you have the blues and soul music, Elvis rips it off and makes it into rock and roll… so on and so forth. All that happens with rap is you end up with white boy a-holes like Asher Ross singing about college? Have any of you people ever seen this guy Asher Ross? Give me a f***ing break.
Kings of Leon suck too. How do you grow up listening to classic rock in Tennessee and end up making gay ass new wave music?
I’m just laying down the law tonight folks. I keep it real.
DOB, I’d love to take a trip out west on the bike, some beautiful country out there for sure. I love the Blue Ridge Parkway, it is practically in my back yard. It’s therapuedic to take a few hour ride up ther, especially in the early morning.
I’ve had a few friends tell me how crazy Dills Gap is, but they tend to exaggerate a tad so I thought I ask you. Guess I’ll have to strap on the leathers & give it a try. I’ve heard there is a tree at the start of the road that is covered with bodywork from the bikes of riders who failed to stay upright. Hopefully I return with all of my bodywork & body for that matter.

You’re right in that Ganster Rap is long gone. I can’t recall the station on XM, but they play all the late 80’s-90’s tracks. There is no comparing today’s garbage to the days of Public Ememy, Ice T, & many others. Totally different sound & there was actually a tad bit of thought put into those tracks.
You just can’t compare today’s hip hop to old school Gangster Rap. Today’s “artists” just don’t compare IMO.
I genuinely do like a lot of older ’80s and early ’90s rap. I mean, I never really bought many if any rap or hip hop cd’s but definitely, yo mtv raps was the good old days.
Tomahawkin, you can’t tell me guys like T.I. aren’t gangster rappers. Did you hear about that guy C Murder. I read recently rapper C Murder was sentenced to a life imprisnment for… uh, murder.
I realize that the true gangster rap era was the late ’80s-early ’90s but the term is still relevant.
But it seems like people aren’t allowed to criticize rap or hip hop. That you’re out of touch and not with the times but for what it is, it’s not good.
Wayne in Utah, LOL my old man would cringe everytime he walked into a room & I was watching Beavis & Butthead. It was an original show, that’s for sure.
I was in my late 30’s when I first discovered them, and I still loved it! I don’t know why they quit?? Maybe there is only so much of that stuff that you can come up with?
I miss the old MTV back in the days where if you were a kid on the neighboorhood block and your parents had cable. Then you were ballin…Even MTV2 is going to the Toilet now they have fell off hard!
I was watching Beavis and Butthead earlier on Youtube. A lot of thir episodes and video commentary have been uploaded onto that site w/o the youtube Nazi’s banning it…
Wayne in Utah, I really can’t recall why they quit doing it. I remember people rasing hell about it, but it wasn’t long after Beavis & Butthead ended South Park began. I never could get into that one.
I guess I ran DOB off with my anti-Kings of Leon comments.
That music is such derivative BS. You might as well just get two iPods and sync up Wilco and New Order to play at one time. Even the noise of two iPods playing at the same time is better than Kings of Leon.
But no, I guess I just don’t appreciate Kings of Leon for the ground-breaking, skinny jean wearing, greasy haired, whiney voice, new wave, alt country music they have given the world.
I can’t believe how much crap shows like “Family Guy” get away with…That show makes Beavis and Butthead look like saints…
I used to hate Naive Corporate/Mainstream America Crying about how offensive Shows Like Beavis and Butthead, Married with Childern, And
Jerry Springer were…
Now all these crap shows that come out today get a free pass as long as it isn’t Janet Jackson being on stage (sarcasm)
I can’t stand any cartoon sit com that’s on the air today. The Simpsons, although I don’t care for it, has stayed remotely clean over the years. The “Family Guy” is anything but family oriented IMO.
I loved Married with Children, always funny as hell. It had to be the most low budget hit sitcom ever, well at least in the early years. That show really put Fox on the map. Most of the major networks just put together good TV anymore.
I find myself drawn to shows like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy, The Sopranos, Rescue Me & others. All have interesting story lines & pull you in as a viewer.
I realize that it also comes off as mildly, uncomfortably polliticall incorrect or possibly even racist to be a white person criticizing rap and hip hop. I’m not trying to be that guy. I’m not that guy.
All the people who hate standards of pollitical correctness or who are offended at being called culturally insensitive usually are, uh, racist or culturally insensitive.
Not that it’s even really my place to say it but I just don’t think the majority of rap these days contributes anything positive to society or the black community. Why am I even talking about this?
I don’t know but somebody has to agree with that. There’s so much bad music out there these days it kind of bothers me.
At least coming of age in the early ’90s you had music that you could really invest in and made you think, both rock and hip hop. It wasn’t interchangeable and disposable like it is now. There was actual diversity.
You know what, uga-brave? I actually like the Fray.
They should be so lucky, huh? They’re not exactly hip but they have really great melodies and have a great sound as a band. Good lyics, a little cheesy at times but whatever.
The fact that they’re not hip makes me like them even more. I respect what they do, they’re genuine.
“I realize that it also comes off as mildly, uncomfortably polliticall incorrect or possibly even racist to be a white person criticizing rap and hip hop. I’m not trying to be that guy. I’m not that guy.”
Dude, I could care less as long that were are in agreement that today’s music sucks…
I just wonder what music will be like 10 years from now…I bet it will all by computer synchronized like half of the stuff is today…
uga-brave, upon closer inspection of your musical preferences, I think the Fray is about where it ends.
I can’t get with you on live or better than ezra. I did have kind of a Live period in high school but I’ve moved on. Sorry.
I definitely have to admit to being somewhat of a snob but I really just like having conversations about this stuff but people take it too seriously and think you’re criticizing them if you don’t like their music. Okay, maybe that’s understandable but I just like mixing it up a little.
I still remember thinking around the time of n’sync and backstreet boys and britney spears, “this stuff will never last.”
I really thought it would just go away on it’s own as had been the case in the past but there was never anything to stop it or take over.
It just started this thing where it became kind of instant gratification, it served a need to see performers who didn’t challenge their audience, gave them exactly what they wanted to hear.
The idea of talent and individuality and skill became irrelevant. It was all about having a certain attitude or strong personality, a desire to want to be successful without actually paying your dues.
Meanwhile, in the real world you have wars and terrorism and elections and government invasion of privacy and a public that is completely detached from reality and who are swayed by one dimensional phrases like “flip-flopper” and “death panels” and who have no ability to contribute to a serious debate about important issues.
And then you have Bobby Cox mishandling the bullpen. The whole world is going to hell.
I’m not suggesting that Kings of Leon should be considered in the same breath as American Idol. The Kings of Leon just suck.
But the rest of it, American Idol in particular, is just an example of our spoon fed culture. A lot of people don’t seem to want to think about anything.
‘Tis awfully good to see you posting more frequently again. I saw you trying to post reason, in-game; please don’t waste your effort. Save it for the late shift and the day-time, so I’ll be sure not to miss. And yes, Mitchell has descended into “and idiot.”
I’m tellin’ you folks, his early Katy Temple was good, in the “Fire/Rehire DOB” vein. But, I think he’s worse than MFin09, now.
“Shafer wrist was hurt pretty bad thats why his arm wasnt so hot, but with out a doubt he is one of the best younger players we have..my predicitons is that next year our outfield will look something like this…LF-McLouth CF- Shafer RF- Diaz/Church platoon”–Escobar for Supreme
NO way. Schafer is not going to be the starting CF by any stretch of the imagination. 1) He didn’t perform well in 2009. 2) He is coming off an injury and hasn’t played much the second half of this year. So why would Bobby put him in CF??? If he does make the team he would probably be a fourth outfielder. If he does very well during the course of the season it may open up a spot for a trade.
I think it’s likely that FW is going to either trade or sign a new LF with some power. Clearly, G Anderson is neither a long term solution nor does he help this team much in the middle of the order. So it is obvious what this team needs. He addressed the biggest need over the past winter with pitching and so I think he will try to address the other biggest need now: power.
We know that we have too many starting pitchers and too many making too much money (like that? LOL). So one of the highest paid is likely to be traded or not signed. Hard to say what is going to happen there. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Too many teams need pitching so I think a good deal can be made. But then there aren’t many teams with great power so I don’t know… We can probably get a Adam LaRoche like player but I don’t know about a big time HR hitter.
Really, I think this team only needs one power guy then try to work on some speed. Get a new power hitting LF, sign Adam LaRoche, maybe even make a trade for a new second baseman with speed, and hope that Heyward is ready next year for RF. Prado is a great player but we need to get some speed somewhere in this line up. I would think that if the opportunity came up FW wouldn’t hesitate to move Johnson and/or Prado. But who knows?
METSFAN4LIFE: ” got two words for you: Gary Sheffield. Mr. 500 homeruns will love to see Kawakazi. He’s hitting .401 with an ops of 1.016 against him.” Too bad he removed himself from the line-up before the game because Minaya wouldn’t talk to him about a contract extension…
I hated Southpark…That show was nothing but a bunch of little kids cussing at school, No substance at all…Tomahawkin
Uh… Wrong.
South Park is excellent satire comedy that takes on a new, relevant issue with each new episode. Maybe you only watched episodes from the first couple of seasons, but trust me, it’s grown up a lot since then. As far as substance goes, it has far more than any other animated comedy on TV.
Give it another chance… Pretty soon you’ll be saying “I learned something today…”
Hey i hear u son Mike(ow Ihurt) hampton Out again I tolf DOB u clown who went to houston would be the same jerk who gets hurt if someone yelled Money!…..Oh and marlins will sweep us again here at the Ted home of B.Cox Double-A Team of chipper(we found a dead body)Jones…who never should won MVP of the Natl league..since then he cost us wild card game in 2000. cost a Game in The Ted in 2000 in Gamw 162…shall i refresh u DOB Two outs all Jones has to do is field he must saw some one flash a 1000 bill in his face n threw the ball over wolhers n to the outfield…Bye bye and since then chipper jones n friends have choke in great form!

A little game of would you rather. Would you rather have a healthy, somewhat ineffective Chipper or a sporadically injured, raking Chipper?
I know, I know. His #’s after the break aren’t bad. But it seems like he’s been nowhere near some of the torrid streaks he had last year and it also seems like he hit the DL or missed days here and there last year a little more often.
Could just be me. And there is the fact that dude’s getting older and he won the fricking batting championship last season, which is indicative of an absurdly good (and rare) year. But still, I’m curious. Is he better when he plays intermittently somehow?
(OK, that’s a little harsh. But Mitchell, my man, I don’t know what beverages you were drinking last night, but you were getting a bit over the top by midnight…. As for Kevin, I honestly read your 6:59 post twice and still don’t really know what it was about.)
CharlieAlphaBravo: My jaw dropped when I saw that South Park review from Tomahawkin. That’s some of the most clever, hilarious writing you’ll find anywhere, in every episode of South Park.
Well its a fine day (except for the weather DOB its 40% rain w/TS,humid) here in the big ATL to get a fish fry going, maybe a Friday nite all you can eat.
in 1985, we booked inxs. before smabooh. remember their big hit “dont change” uga-brave
I’m gonna assume you meant Shabooh Shoobah? That was their first big album, came out in 1982. I only remember because I saw them freshman year of college right after it came out, before they broke big. Believe it or not, they were the opening act for Adam and the Ants on that tour. Adam Ant was really big at the time, the year after “Stand and Deliver” was all the rage. I just remember Adam Ant had two drummers pounding away throughout.
I also remember having strep throat and an incredible accompanying earache at that show in Kansas City. You ever had strep with the earache that feels like a knife in your ear? Oh, it was nice. But we had a blast anyway.
Anyway, Shabooh Shoobah was a really strong album, and to me, INXS never made another one as good. They had a few great songs after that, but I thought they became so bland and commercial sounding after that. I lost interest in them within a few years.
But “Don’t Change” sounds as great as ever. I’ve still got that on my Ipod.
Have you become….shudder….a lurker? Whad zup man? Hit me back and give me a low-down on your take for the post-season. Are we goin’ to see GWINNETT this year? I’m not going to DANVILLE because they didn’t start MIKE MINOR off there.
Dude, you’re goin’ all ANDERS-esque on us. Where’s the unrepentant soul, the do-or-die line in the sand. Enemies to the death. All that BS? Just askin’.
We can not take KK out of the rotation now. I am a huge fan of Hudson, but right now he should join the bullpen, help us out the rest of the year, and then be ready to start (fully healthy) next year.
RichBrave-Yeah, Dr. John’s been around for a decade or three or four. Strange I never saw him before, cause he was living in Macon while I was at Mercer in the 70’s. I saw all the other seminal Southern Rockers (Allmans, Wet Willie, etc.), but somewhow mised “The Night Tripper” from New Orleans. I’ll remedy that next weekend.
Some of the dumbest, most inarticulate, posters, are also the funniest. Not naming any names, but just read a couple posts on this page that left me sobbing with laughter…
RHR, thanks for the link, good read, but just reminded me of all the division that was on here over that issue, when to bring Tommy Gun up.
Glad its a moot point now, real glad.
Surely, Hudson will join the bullpen when he returns. I mean… they’re not going to put Lowe in the bullpen, and he’s been the least consistent of our starters this year. If Hudson joins the rotation, Kawakami will be the odd man out.
And while I’m anxious to have Hudson back in our rotation next year… RIGHT NOW, at this point, he’s a guy FRESH off his TJ surgery rehab… Can we really expect him to INSTANTLY match what Kawakami’s been giving us, let alone TOP it?????
If Hudson is on track, he’s a ground-ball pitcher, which is ALWAYS valuable in the ‘pen! And he could be guy that could take on late-inning responsibility, and take some pressure off Soriano, Gonzo, and Moylan.
Hudson to the bullpen… just makes more sense than bumping anyone out of the rotation right now. Over the winter, the Braves will have a valuable trade asset in the rotation that can be moved to make room for Huddy, while getting something of significant value in return. But for now… there’s no place in this rotation for Hudson, and he’s needed in the bullpen.
Y’all can give Mitchell all the crap you want to about his Kings of Leon and Rap rants, but dude was spot on with this paragraph:
“Every country song these days on the radio is like a three minute little blue collar fantasy about living in the “real America”, drivin’ a f***in’ pick-up truck, punchin’ a clock man… sung by a bunch of f***ing cowboy hat wearing millionaires.
Mitchell, you nailed it, my man. I can’t help you or hurt you regarding Kings of Leon, because I’ve never listened to one song of theirs, but I’m right there with you on this garbage.
Kenny Chesney would $##t himself if he had to live one day in David Allan Coe’s shoes in the 70s.
I’ll find out soon, Soph. He’s supposed to be at the hospital between 8-9. I’m guessing they’ll do dialysis but I don’t know. There has been talk of doing a transplant but he has CHF and is in terrible health so I’m not sure if that’s what his doctors have told him or that’s just what he thinks. Thanks for asking.

What do I know.

There was actual diversity.

uga-brave, upon closer inspection of your musical preferences, I think the Fray is about where it ends.

South Park is excellent satire comedy that takes on a new, relevant issue with each new episode. Maybe you only watched episodes from the first couple of seasons, but trust me, it’s grown up a lot since then. As far as substance goes, it has far more than any other animated comedy on TV.

Question of the Day:
A little game of would you rather. Would you rather have a healthy, somewhat ineffective Chipper or a sporadically injured, raking Chipper?
I know, I know. His #’s after the break aren’t bad. But it seems like he’s been nowhere near some of the torrid streaks he had last year and it also seems like he hit the DL or missed days here and there last year a little more often.
Could just be me. And there is the fact that dude’s getting older and he won the fricking batting championship last season, which is indicative of an absurdly good (and rare) year. But still, I’m curious. Is he better when he plays intermittently somehow?

in 1985, we booked inxs. before smabooh. remember their big hit “dont change” uga-brave
