You act as if the offense should have held a secret meeting and someone (say McCAnn), says, “OK fellas Lowe doesn’t have his real good stuff tonight so lets score more runs than we were planning on scoring or “let’s really try hard versus taking it easy on them.” I don’t know how much sports you’ve ever played but when something takes that drastic of a turn like what happend in the 4th inning and you have the momentum and in an instant, they get it back, it’s really hard to over come that. The pendulum swing is just too great. WHAt happened in the 4th inning last night is the equivalent of being up 14 points at the half of a football game and the opposing team comes back in the 3rd quarter with 28 unanswered points on maybe a returned interception, a kick off return for a TD and an 80 yard bomb for a TD. Most teams just can’t snap their fingers and get “ole Mo” back, no matter how hard they try.

When hitters get basehits in between the infielders do they say they just got lucky? WHat if a linedrive falls in between outfielders? Do they say they got lucky? What would constitute a hit being just a normal hit or a lucky hit? Surely not that it rolled through an opening in the infield or fell perfectly equal distance from the outfielders. Is a batted ball that hits at the top of the wall and bounces back for a double “unlucky” and one that barely scrapes over the wall for a HR “lucky?” If it barely scrapes over the wall nobody that ever hit one of those said, “Boy I sure was lucky today.” What they might say is I got just enough of it” which is true but more than likely “I got all of that one.” And after all they did. Unlucky is just a term to console losing. To be sure bad breaks and good breaks happen in all sports, but to call a 10 hit 8 run inning just bad luck is a way to console the losers. After all if it truly was luck or a lack therof then it’s nobody’s fault, right? WHy can’t BC just say I made a mistake I should have gotten him earlier? I can respect a man owning up to a mistake but when people call it just bad luck, I can’t.

Fred……………I agree with your 3:11pm posting. It’s nice to see SOMEONE on this blog who has the ability to see that on a night like last night………..THAT THE OFFENSE SHOULD HAVE STEPPED IT UP WHEN THEY SAW THAT DEREK LOWE DIDNT HAVE IT………..especially against a BUM like Oliver Perez and that horrific Mets bullpen.

Lord help us if Smoltz succeeds in St. Louis. These insufferable Cardinal fans will have Dave Duncan’s face carved into Mt. Rushmore if it happens. You folks think these Mets Trolls are annoying? This is child’s play. Cardinal fans here in the central U.S. are pompous, self-righteous A-holes of the first degree. He’s a good pitching coach, but they think Dave Duncan hung the moon, and Albert Pujols held him up on his shoulders so he could do it. David Wright? PFFFFT!

Yeah, he didn’t get the memo.

So Smoltz is about to become a Cardinal. And the Braves have one more series vs. St. Lou, starting September 11.

How many think he’ll still be in the rotation then?

Dave Duncan seems to have the ability to correct anybody’s mechanics, but he can’t heal the sick (as far as I can tell). You think he can straighten out Smoltz?

I need to see some evidence he can get out lefties with regularity. Until that happens, I’m not so sure he’ll last any longer with the Cards than he did with the Sawx.
