AndyC

Heath

Like I said, I’m not saying you are wrong, just that there are too many variables that can change a race when there are 45 or so games to go. Teams getting hot/cold, injuries. I mean, what were the odds that the Nats would have gone 11-3 in thier last 14 games. Almost zero, but it happened.

AndyC -

Over a 162-game, it all evens out... speaking of the Nationals:

Actual: 43-75, Expected: 49-69....so, the numbers would actually suggest that they should have won several in a row to get to their expected win/loss record and that they are very well could win several in a row again to get to their expected record.

That said, I understand what you mean. I am not saying you are wrong either. We'll end the conversation with this: Odds are used to for gambling purposes and odds-makers and bet-takers will use these all day because of they are about as close as it can get.

To be off by, say, 3 games after 120 games is pretty good. 3/120 = 2.5% inaccuracy. Not too bad.

James - I thought Lentz was banned from the blog after last night’s performance (and rightfully so).

This blog as all open blogs are anonymous as is all web apps. The blog doesn't have physical access to the blogger only a network connection. Thus you cannot ban an individual blogger only his network IP address. All Paul has to do, or anyone else who has been banned has to do is change to a different computer with a different IP address and they are no longer banned.

Anders,

What is your prediction for this series?

Looking at the pitching matchups, I'd have to say 2 out of 3 at worst for the Braves. Although, I'm not sure the Mets can muster enough offense to help Santana win against KK.

Two things.
This country is almost insane with its love for dogs.
If Vick was fighting chickens instead of pit bulls (both are illegal, both needlessly kill and torture helpless animals for entertaintment purposes), he wouldn't have lost $139 million and he'd still be playing for the Atlanta Falcons.

And ... unless you've ever lost a person you love in a DUI accident, you couldn't possibly understand how insulting it is to see people more outraged about the killing of 25 dogs. I know there was a difference in intent between Vick and Stallworth, but there was also a vastly different outcome.
A human being was killed. Not a dog. Not a chicken. Not a deer. A human being. But it seems as if that fact is brushed aside because Stallworth didn't mean to do it. He did mean to get in his car. Drunk. And drive. And in doing so, he took someone's son off the face of the earth. Forever.

Sorry, but in my mind, that trumps the torture of an animal.

Ok, sorry. Back to the Braves.

amicusterrae: "SOMETIMES that’s the case, but you can’t make this generalization. Sometimes, pro atheletes get punished more harshly, to fight the perception you mention, and also to make an example. Plaxico Burress is an example. Why no plea offer for a lower charge that doesn’t require jail time? Can’t have people think athletes always get off."
What jail time are you referring to re: Plaxico? Hasnt even been to trial yet, so as you certainly must know, there is plenty of time for a plea bargain prior to trial. Lets see what happens before you assume there will be some jail time.
