Rob, why does Arthur B come to mind? Does Turner even have the wealth to reacquire the team? I have to say our payroll isn’t bad considering a corporation owns the team in a recession. At least they haven’t turned us into the Marlins.

I believe so – assuming the lineup cards were never exchanged. If that’s the case, when the visiting team is not in town for the last time, the decision remains with the home team.

You need more elite players than just Heyward. Chipper is old and McCann is a catcher. Escobar is pretty good too, but that isn’t like the Philles or Mets who have Utley, Howard, Rollins, Victorino, Werth, Ibanez, Beltran, Reyes, Wright, Hamels, Lee, Johan, K-Rod, Lidge.

fred,

Yes they designed with a 1% slope from shallow center field towards all boundries. The infield has no slope. COMPLETELY FLAT. As well as a arterial drainage pattern 2′ underground.

We will need all the money possible to keep Escobar, Hanson, Heyward, McCann in the coming years.

Is there anyway ESPN can be banned from carrying Braves games from now on? I hate Morgan, Phillips, and Miller… Plus this 8pm junk is for the birds on Sundays… Especially when there’s a freakin rain delay!

You need more elite players than just Heyward.

Yeah, but who says all the players you just listed were “elite”. McCann, Chipper, Escobar, Heyward is a pretty strong core. Add to it McLouth, Prado, Schafer and Freeman and that’s pretty darn good. With the depth of the starting pitching, no real reason why they can’t make the playoffs. Then it’s a crapshoot. And as much as I really like those other players(Schafer, Freeman, Prado, and McLouth), that may not be the team that it turns out to be. Wren can switch it up a bit. I hope “switch it up” doesn’t mean making moves that don’t make sense, but it’s not a certainty that THIS is the team that needs to win it all.

DP…….If Jason Heyward had been playing at Triple A for a couple of months, I could understand your argument. However, Heyward has only been at Double A for a little more than a month. Dude just turned 21. I see no problem with leaving him in Double A for the rest of the season…….do the Arizona fall league thing……play some games in Spring Training…..and then start off the season in Triple A.

If he rakes at the plate in Triple A like Tommy Hanson pitched, then call him up in June.

Also, if the Braves were to sign a “stop gap” player in the off season to play right field until they are ready to call up Heyward…….Frank Wren can always trade the player he got to play right field in mid-season. The Braves do not have to “eat” that salary.

Frank Wren has shown that he can be creative and not afraid to pull the trigger on a trade.

About 3-4 weeks ago some (on ESPN, of course) were suggesting that the NL division leader to least likely lose their lead would have been the Phillies…. As of right now, they are the team with the smallest division lead in the league. (The moves STL has made sure has panned out…they may end up with the largest division lead…)

I have never bashed you or called you names, but that ends now. Diory Hernandez is hitting over .360 at Triple A and he sucks. If Heyward was hitting between .270 and .300 then I would say he needs to see triple A. His numbers are unbelievable. I think he would be lket down by getting called up to Gwinnett instead of Atlanta. He said in a interview that his goal from the day he signed that he wanted to be in the bigs by 09. He deserves to be called up because of the way he plays.

Is John Miller having a stroke?
Spit it out, man. Geez. What in the world did he just say?

John Miller is to baseball announcing as John Madden is to football announcing. The most annoying part about Miller is he always tries to put his own little twist on the Latin players names like he is fluent with them. Take Furcal for example, Miller pronounces his name Raphael Furcal (Like the Ninja turtle Raphael) and his last name as in Fercal instead of what it truly is. I wish he would give it up already. He and that Kenny Albert that sounds like he has a **** stuck in his mouth.

Turnabout is fair play. While a number of you were crying when the Victorino ball hit the bag……….you all jumped for joy when that LINER by Utley went right to Escobar to double up Victorino.

Even if the Braves lose tonight (they aren’t!), I think they will be leading the wild card “division” two weeks from now. Just looking at schedules. If they have to DL McLouth, they should bring up the best replacement.

Braves have a very real chance to make the post-season this year. It would be a crime if they threw Gregor Blanco out there for 10-12 games when they could be making up ground.

I read that Schafer was out of the cast and presumably is starting to get ready to play. Brandon Jones was apparently doing better in the second half. But, if the Braves think that Heyward is the best option, he should get the call over the others, damn the long term cost.

Meanwhile, the Reaper gets a lucky double by hitting the first base bag, but immediately gets erased on a liner / tag out double play.
