Sure, blame vaz for anything less than a perfect game..
It must be tough to go out there every inning thinking that its over if the other team scores a run; you could see vazquez think “ballgame” when he saw the first howard HR.
Meanwhile Happ is giving away BB’s but keeps getting these idiots to swing at pitches out of the strike zone
Nova Scotia Steve
WE ARE 3 GAMES BACK OF THE WILD CARD
This is not the end of world guys and gals.
“he has not been able to carry the team like he used to… not a knock on him – just a thing”
I Said the Same thing a week ago about Chipper and I got my Ass handed to me by some the blind fans on here
Hurt or not, its the Biggest series of the year and Chipper didn’t show up
braveman: yeah but 6 games isn’t a lot. we win 4 out of 6, we only gain 2 games. I mean we’d have to win 5 against them to gain 4; still leaves us 2 out (of course that is assuming both teams win/lose equally against other opponents). I’m just saying that is a tall order.
Glenn Hubbard Rocks
It’s getting close to Norton time baby!!!
Nolie, did they even make a minor league baseball card of you? Because I’d love to check out your stats! (JEFF321)
I have never, ever claimed to have played minor league ball. My right arm was shattered badly by a horse while I was still in college. I worked a few years for minor league teams and scouted for a couple of MLB teams,Jeff. So sorry, dude, no card.
. I learned a hell of a lot more about baseball doing that than I would have playing a few years in the minors. And I have stated B4 that I was very probably not good enough as a player to get out of the minors if I had been healthy. Hell, I listen every day to ex-ballplayers who know next to nothing about evaluating players and situations.
I don’t think much of what you usually say,and I dislike all your in-game negativity at times, but other than a dig here and there I am not the guy(s) who really rip you.
I think every hitter should take until they get two strikes. As long as Happ is on the mound.
August 16th, 200911:49 pm
Prado wasn’t even going to think about offering at the first pitch… good approach as a PH.
yes 2 mistakes that lead to all 4 runs and a Loss in the biggest game he has pitched as a Brave. Its pretty much his patented blue print for every big game he has ever pitched in. Exactly what Ozy called him out on. He’s had a good year no doubt but he wets his pants on the big stage time after time.
Did David Wright almost die? This is the most-talked-about HBP in MLB history.
Rob from SC
We need to drill Howard. I said it after the first HR
Going with the 90 wins to win the WC assumption, Braves would need to go 29-16 (64%) in their remaining games (assuming also that they lose tonight).
23 of 45 games are at home (51%)
26 of 45 games are against <.500 teams (58%) – SD, Was, NYM, Ari, Hou, Cin
Evan with that mentality why are you still watching and blogging? You should have been gone after first loss of the season.
Prado with a good at bat
Braves Fan in SC
August 16th, 200911:50 pm
Another BB that will ultimately lead to nothing.
That is now six walks.
Take until you get two, omar.
Oh and 10 of 45 games are against a team above us in the WC (Fla)
Need to make him pay for these walks…man…
We’re starting to get some chances…
NO MORE BOBBY
If Prado is ready to go then I don’t mind Chipper sitting out again. Im kinda over the Chipper era anyways.
Javy made two mistakes. It happens. Howard is a good player. Vazquez is not to blame for this loss.
August 16th, 200911:51 pm
Evan: At least you hate to say it. That’s good.
And I don’t hold out any false hope. Quite the contrary. Those of us who are pointing out the Braves will be 3-1/2 games out of the wild-card lead with 46 to play are merely pointing out a fact, Evan. You, on the other hand, are basing your belief on what you think will happen, not on what the Braves have done recently (8-2 in last 10 before tonight, and tied with Phils for best record in NL since June 28 before tonight).
Just facts. Nothing more. You can say season’s over, but really, you need to provide more reason other than, well, because you feel like it is. That is, if you’re trying to get others on your “we’re doomed, Gulliver” bandwagon.
O’brien please confirm, Steve Phillips is wearing A shirt “Im with Stupid”?
So close, yet so far.
6 BBs usually leads to trouble for the pitcher…..
Can’t get a break, man. Can not get a break. Well, except for yesterday.
You can’t say luck has not gone our way this series, we got lucky last night!
Replay please ESPN? wtf
August 16th, 200911:52 pm
Should I even hit refresh?
WTF LOAF, Awfense Blows!
Geez this geezer really loves the Phillies doesnt he? Gets fired up even on routine DPs.
Garret Anderson batting second…like really
Oh my God, alert the media, the team with one of the best records in the NL may actually win a series against us this year. Darn six games out in the division if we lose, to bad we can’t make the playoffs some other way.
August 16th, 200911:53 pm
Count de Monet
It’s not over if Lidge pitches the 9th
I hope this is the first, and last, time Garrett Anderson bats second in the lineup.
Loaf is a great 2-hole hitter. Almost makes as much sense as hitting your best legit power guy 8th.
Not our night. I hate ESPN games.
Show up with some more fire tomorrow guys!
first-pitch swinging against a guy with 6 BBs…. I just don’t understand.
Within a blink of an eye Garret has turned into complete garbage. What happend? I can’t believe he just swung at another first pitch down and in.
August 16th, 200911:54 pm
Garett’s been LOAFING quite a bit lately. He hasn’t been producing…running out of steam for sure? I’m sure Heyward could produce a better major league at-bat right now. Anderson was hot for a while there but has gone to freezing cold!
What’s the Braves’ record since June 28? I’d like to do some projecting of that record through the rest of the season.
The Bird and Indian
Let’s just hope Lidge is warming up since we got Chipper, Mac, Yunel, Matty D, Laroche up next inning.
August 16th, 200911:55 pm
Jake W………dude, I was getting ready to say before Joe Morgan took the words out of my mouth: Ryan Howard can SINGLE HANDEDLY win you a ball game (uh, like tonight with 2 homers, 4 RBIs for all the Phillies offense tonight so far).
When it comes to your “clean-up” hitter…..you want RYAN HOWARD. Chase Utley, who is the more complete player, is the Phillies #3 hitter. However, Utley gets lots of good pitches to hit because he has Howard batting behind him. Why do you think the #4 spot in the order is called the “clean-up” spot? Because it is the #4 hitter in the order’s job to “clean up and clear the bases” when he comes to the plate.
almost a double down the line to change the game (seriously, no replay?). instead anderson (no speed, should have scored on mccanns double in 1st) ground into double play. horrible.
What the heck is Loaf doing batting 2nd? Makes no sense and kills any rally we could have going!!! Bobby Cox sure as heck doesn’t understand how to construct a lineup 1-8.
I know, Jake W….if only there were some OTHER way of making the postseason!
Rain + ESPN + weird lineup + no life = FAIL.
like i said before , its back to the typical attitude yea we won a big game yesterday , so its ok to come out and just go thru the motions and make happ look good and lose ..
August 16th, 200911:56 pm
Is it wrong to root for Howard to get drilled in the back?
Then, maybe, he’ll charge the mound and get suspended for five games.
Plus, it would GUARANTEE he wouldn’t hit another home run.
Come On Easy-E…Lets get Ruthless on Howard and his Posse!
Good for all you folks that are staying up late to watch this…
We gotta stick with em…win or lose…
i can’t stand espn. i mean, i really really hate espn.
I’d LOVE to see a payback beanball.
You have to make a pitcher pay when he walks six hitters. If the Braves had walked six tonight, the score would be 10 – 1 by now.
Tonight was a bad night but we need to get back to work and get on another roll, not the result we needed this series but why dwell on it we have some games ahead of us. I personally call a comeback in the 9th you heard it here fist.
August 16th, 200911:57 pm
Loaf Cooled Off Hard This Series. Before that he was Clowing for 2 months straight
and please batting anderson 2nd wow cox was on drugs when he made that decision.. that should never happen again..
Rob, I wasn’t for nailing Howard until that 2nd homer. Any hitter who stands at the plate and admires his HR needs to be drilled his next at bat.
August 16th, 200911:58 pm
Garrett needs a NIGHT OFF….He’s 37 and yet with McLouth hury he’s played A LOT…Put Infante in LF or DL McLouth and bring heyward up.
Give LOAF a nightOFF…
Medlen is not a flame thrower
great walk to utley with howard coming up. wonder what will happen, HR anyone?
Why the hell GA is hitting in the 2 spot he is slower than the PI$$ out of a dog with clap. Church who is good enough to hit 1st but not 2nd? Bobby I think must have gotten hit in the head with a foul boul in BP. Lots of head injuries in the game these days. The number 2 hitter needs to have a effing clue how to bunt. Not Bobbys number 2 he just has to breath and not listen to rap music in the clubhouse.
You guys want to know why ESPN talks about the Phillie players all night? They’re better players. That’s all there is to it. I love my Braves, but one thing is for sure evident to me in this series. The Phillies are just better than the Braves. Yeah, I know, throw the Braves record against them out there with your counter point, but nobody can deny, position for position, the Phillies are the better team, period.
August 16th, 200911:59 pm
Jon Miller: Schaefer was sent back for “more seasoning” (no mention of injury)
Jon Miller: Kris Medlin, the “flame-thrower”.
Maybe he should do more homework on the team he won’t be rooting for, rather than practising the over-pronunciation of Spanish names.
For all the people whining about the garbage commentary on BSPN? It’s simple Put the (exepletive) on Mute…It’s so easy a caveman can do it…
We’ve scored 2,4,and 1 run in this series….Way to show up for a big series OFFENSE
Come On Easy-E!!!
August 17th, 200912:00 am
I have been calling for Heyward for over a month. Almost nobody e;se wants him called up
Most intuitive comment I have read tonight:
“Why do you think the #4 spot in the order is called the “clean-up” spot? Because it is the #4 hitter in the order’s job to “clean up and clear the bases” when he comes to the plate.” Paul ‘The Master’ Lentz

Man you sound like Tim McCarver.
August 17th, 200912:01 am
With the biased commentating, I ALMOST WANT TO CHEER FOR THE PHILTHIES! ok, maybe not, but what a job these guys are doing… F BSPN…
7 runs in almost 3 games!
Awfense Blows! Way to show up for the most hyped biggest series so far up to date!
Infante in LF? What choo talkin bout Willis?
“Chipper has more power from the right side than the left” was my favorite quote of the night.
Philly has scored 10 runs this series…
We’ve been outscored 10-7.
Pitching has been good for both sides…thats all there is to it.
wow great play
Alright! Ride that momentum to the plate!
August 17th, 200912:02 am
AWFENSE COME ON get your head out of your a…s and execute!!!
Be interesting to see how Chipper looks this AB
That’s two good, alert DP’s by our SS, but where’s his bat?
The Mississippi game was rained out tonight. Get Heyward on a plane and into the lineup tomorrow.
My how this blog flip flops in 24 hours. Chill people, it’s all good.
August 17th, 200912:03 am
I hate to be the guy that has to clean the broadcasting booth. Be sure to wear latex gloves.
Not to mention they are defending Champs and leading the division… If you trade jerseys, people on here would be livid if ESPN didn’t talk about the team this way. I don’t have a a problem with the praise that the Phillies are getting because of the of the afore mentioned reasons and they are winning the game. It’s all the time spent on all the other teams that is a head-scratcher to me.
Just got home. Well we can certainly tell this team is too tight. Offense is still, well offensive. We are not prepared to make the playoffs. This series has been very disappointing…
Pretty cool of Homer and them to stay up late just to tell us how much the braves suck. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t do that. What a trooper!
August 17th, 200912:04 am
Kansas hearts Chipper, in case you were wondering..
Heyward is the future not the present. Some of you people speak of him like he can hit 30 homers right away, hmm well why does he have 10 i mean guys come on he just turned 20 hes not going to be a superstar right this minute chill he won’t be here this year. By the way chipper sucks tonight
August 17th, 200912:05 am
Cy Happ Made this Awfense look like crap…Just glad we didn’t get swept!
I wonder how much the Phillies pay Morgan for the PR job he does during these broadcasts.
Great way to start the inning.
What did Chipper do? Or not do?
The way the lineup is setting up, I think we can all get ready for a NORTON AB in the 9th!
I know that the Braves lead the season series with the Phills, but they should have swept the Braves this series.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
