Whatever “plan” the Braves have in pitching to Ryan Howard, they need to throw it into the garbage and start the F over.
Roger, it does not work! It hasn’t worked since you got here. Time to do something else.
The guy is not Babe Ruth. He’s a .270 career hitter.
ya know, I had a bad feeling all day about this game. Javy was kinda due for a poorer start. Howard is Nemesis Incarnate.
August 16th, 200911:20 pm
No, I won’t accept it.
OK bravos………..chipper and Mc coming up………lets get 2 of those back!!!!!!!!!!
High fastballs = strike out, high change ups = dinner bell
Not sure I would ever give Howard strikes at which to swing. Let hit get himself out or walk.
True Braves Fans
Hey Javy comes back and strikes out Werth we still got chances
NO MORE BOBBY
Not sure why a game this important the Braves have not shown up with more life. Very lazy looking tonight.
The game is over because our lineup sucks. We have no power, no speed, and we are missing key elements to scoring runs in McLouth and Prado.
Must be nice to be a feakin phillie phan.
that was bad but if one hit in a 162 game season determines our season like some of you say we all need to stop watching baseball.
Steve from OH
chilidog–I don’t think the plan was to throw a belt-high changeup over the plate. That’s on Javy, no one else…
Because there are members of the media in the press box that are covering the Phillies, genius.
August 16th, 200911:21 pm
murphy rules–no i dont know what you mean. maybe you could explain?
It ain’t over. Let’s score some damn runs.
Ugh…he’s being really annoying…
…Morgan, I mean. Haha! But there’s a news flash for ya!
And anyway, the batter shouldn’t be peeking…or maybe Ross should be catching.
Wow, bunch of pathetic excuses for Braves fans on the blog. Sad how everyone is so quick to turn on Vazquez. Ryan Howard isn’t just some bum.
It’s only 3 runs. They still have Brad Lidge to beat up on.
hey maybe just maybe we can come back i doubt it but i still have HOPE howard can’t take that way unless he goes yard again well maybe he can and already has
If Braves management did indeed have the power to postpone the game…think they might be re-thinking the decision to play this one right about now?
This is the Braves stadium. The fans don’t care about Phillies records, genius!
August 16th, 200911:22 pm
You actually believe that this AWFense can come back against Cy Happ?
More Power to ya bro…!
Get mad all you want but Javy deserved that. Right down the middle and not even a fastball… a FUC*** HIGH CHANGEUP! Oh well…
this game is not over…y’all need to calm the F%#$ down…The phillies pen is garbage, and hopefully we can get to this in an inning…..another question….why we go two blogs going on? I’m confused as to which one we’re suppoed to be commenting on..lol
Well we know who will be in the game next inning pitching.
This bottom half is crucial for our season
Recipe to beat the phillies……….
1. Dont hit the ball to CF
2. Dont throw anything near HP to Howard
3. Becareful with Utley
The rest of them have been tamed all season long by us.
howards in javy’s head…..he makes all his pitches to eveyone else but howard comes up and he turns into jeff bennet
The Bird and Indian
jed: So you want us to put in a lefty every time Howard comes up? Even in the first? Explain that one to me.
3 runs is a helleva lot for this braves team you have to understand what kind of offense we have
I am not one for condoning violence, but I strongly believe Ryan Howard needs to be buzzed inside for standing there admiring that homerun.
August 16th, 200911:23 pm
Guess my Vazquez praise sunk the damn ship. I’m really not superstitious, though my voodoo dolls get spectacular results.
guarantee this game casts the team in a tailspin and they are out of everything by the end of next week. this team is way closer the the team from the first half than they are to the team the last month and we all know it. huge choke job on national tv just like they always do.
“Man, how sweet would it be to have a bat like that in our lineup. I like our lineup. But three-run homers are few and far between. Impact power would be HUGE for this team.”
He could be coming and if you listen to what they are saying on Heyward he may actually be better in that he will be the more complete hitter. Not to mention he is younger, how long did it take to get Howard to the bigs? Hopefully he will have many big years with Jason Heyward to come.
If we do make the playoffs, lets pray no games are on ESPN.
Javy doesn’t look confident pitching to Howard. Howard’s a strike out batter, and Javy a strike out pitcer. Seems as it would be a perfect match for Javy, but Howard has him cornered.
August 16th, 200911:24 pm
That wasn’t announced on the stadium PA system. It was announced in the press box.
Should they have IBB’d Howard in that instance, and took their chances with the sacks full and Werth and Ibanez following?
I am not one for condoning violence, but I strongly believe Ryan Howard needs to be buzzed inside for standing there admiring that homerun.”"
If you mean with a power-saw, I agree…
Mitchell: It’s good to see somebody else being optimistic. How can you say games are over and seasons are over at this point? Did anyone learn from last night or against L.A.? Sheesh.
chilidog75……..Ryan Howard “may” be a career .276 hitter, however he has 205 homers in 685 career games. That’s 1 homer for every 3.34 games.
Dude got rookie of the year in 2005. I’d love to have a “.276 hitter” on my team like that.
Chumper with another AWFUL at bat who woulda thunk it
No matter WHO pitches for this team or what pitches they throw, this guy tees off.
Like I said, he’s not THAT GOOD. Not nearly as good as the Braves’ pitchers make him look year in and year out.
August 16th, 200911:25 pm
Howard is the ultimate Braves killer. Unral he gets anything close to hit. It’s really unreal how he kills us
hahah what a bitch.
WTF was that swing?
BRAIN CHANGE THAT GAY MUSIC!!!!!! GEEZ!!!!!!!
Between The Garbage AWFense as a result of the off day on Thursday and Bobbys Dumb Decision making This has definitely felt like a short playoff series!
bird & indian: no, bright guy, i’m saying when howard’s hitting like this, dont freakin’ pitch to him! especially with runners on base.
Chipper just hurt himself by the way.
What a wonderful last five minutes this has been.
was it ball 4 on chipper?
Nova Scotia Steve
We look dead tonight…what’s up…
Rain delay have an effect or something…like no life at all
The kittle power that the Braves have is mostly from the left side of the plate, which is nullified most times by left handed pitchers, of which the Braves seem to face almost every day.
August 16th, 200911:26 pm
this team has scored a whopping 6 runs his series..with half of those being gifts..what gives anyone the confidence to suggest that they might score 4 runs in the next 3 innings to win this one.
Make something happen Bravos. Let’s go.
August 16th, 200911:27 pm
When is Chipper not hurt? He hurts himself on the toilet.
Hey Morgan, we also don’t need Mac hitting cleanup and the turtle GA hitting second either. We need our MVP Prado in there too.
wow yunel 0-10 come on break out of it
It feels like we are down 7-1, the crowd at the Ted Feels the same!
well that about wraps up the season eh ?
J.A. Happ is a great pitcher. Everyone is seeing why.
Like, boo-yah! A walk! On base twice in one game…wow…
Bird wants to go to bed…I gotta shut down. Night, all.
When I criticize people for saying “ballgame”, people act like I think we’re going to score ten runs in the next inning and come back.
All I’m saying is the game is not over.
Jake W………I have no doubt that Jason Heyward will be fine Major Leaguer. However, he will be hard pressed to hit 50 homers a season like Ryan Howard can. Even when he is struggling, Howard is a THREAT to put on in the cheap seats every time he comes to the plate. He puts stress on a pitcher.
yall are crazy
August 16th, 200911:28 pm
Why can’t ESPN hire a non-biased announcing team? It seems like they root against the Braves every time we’re forced to listen to them.
LMAO at your last post!
Jed: You have Raul Ibanez up next. We have a strikeout pitcher against a strikeout hitter. There would be no reason to walk him. He just went 0-4 last night. btw, Raul has raked Javy in his career.
Thanks for Howard’s resume. Never said I wouldn’t want him on the Braves.
Lord, I’d trade your entire family to get him to Atlanta.
But, he’s a .276 career hitter. And what’s he hitting against the Braves in his career — it’s significantly higher is it not?
Seems odd to me.
That reaction by Chipper did not look good, at all. If he has to miss time while those others are out… well, Braves really don’t want to have to think about that, I’m sure.
August 16th, 200911:29 pm
Would someone please throw another beer on that guy….
I need 25 Phillies caps, 25-unis, and 10-bales of hay.
For a series to have been so hyped…These games have been boring thanks to the offense
Throw out the bottom of the ninth of yesterdays game…we scored 2 runs on errors!
lol Diaz just eyeballed Happ. Go ahead Diaz, I like it.
matty d atta baby we will take any kind of hit
swing at the first pitch to allow a pitcher who cant find the plate get into a rhythm and work deep into a game. these guys really are just pathetic and deserve to lose. hope you all enjoyed watching the last meaningful game of the season. im sure the rest of the nation did. what an uninspiring team of losers.
August 16th, 200911:30 pm
Come on Roachy!
Oh. I heard it over the radio and thought it was the PA announcer. So the reporters don’t even have to do their own research, a mystery voice in the sky gives them their information? Very convenient.
I’m sure DOB wil crush me for saying this but I’m going to bed and will not read the response so have at it DOB!
Could we ever use a bomb here…
Nova Scotia Steve – We look dead tonight…what’s up…
I called the same thing a few innings ago. No spark from anyone as if this is just another game.
All right, our power threat — the only LEGITIMATE power threat we have on our team — is coming up right now.
One time, Adam bomb. Three-run shot of your own.
With Diaz coming up, Happ is up to 85 pitches. They need to just stand there and let him kill his pitch count to get him out. If the Braves are going to win, it’s going to be off Lidge and the ‘pen. Happ is looking unhittable tonight.
Jed: You have Raul Ibanez up next. We have a strikeout pitcher against a strikeout hitter. There would be no reason to walk him. He just went 0-4 last night. btw, Raul has raked Javy in his career!!
Happ reminds me of Andy Pettite out on the mound. They look alike in their delivery to the plate.
Larocher homer and tie it up PLEASEEEE
I’m on a different wavelength than you people I guess.
I have hope tonight. I don’t have hope every night or day but tonight, I just don’t feel like it’s over.
season is over? you idiots do realize that we have a month and half of baseball to play? obviously you dont…. if we do drop this game, IF we drop it, then we will still have a lot of baseball left. we play the phils 6 more times after tonight. we also will have the padres for three, the nats for 7 and the banged up mets for 6.
we also have plenty of games left against the fish…..10 of them. we can still win this division, even with a loss tonight. and if we cant win the division we have a real shot at the wild card.
we are playing the world champions right now. they have a much better team than we do… that is a fact. we have dominated them so far this year. they are do for a couple of wins against us. you “ballgamers!” need to relax. the braves are not winning the world series this year so just watch/go to the games and enjoy them! its going to be ok. maybe we can squeak into the playoffs, maybe we cant. either way will be in it at the end…that i can promise you. next year we will sure up the bullpen and get a bat and have a shot at winning a ring.
basically, a loss tonight is not the end of the world. if you treat it as such then you dont need to be following this team.
2 on, 2 out. maybe we can comeback and win this thing…
I really don’t see how Happ is having so much success other having players swing at pitches out of the zone. He doesn’t have any plus pitches and pitches up in the strike zone. If hitters would lay off the pitches that are out of the strike zone up, I don’t see how he can get guys out consistently.
Braves Fan in SC
LaRoche up, on to the 7th, lol.
A banana shaped arc? What other kinda of arcs (or bananas) are there?
Would be nice if our 1B could duplicate the opposing team’s 1B, huh?
August 16th, 200911:31 pm
anyone know pitch count on Happ?
Chipper in pain again…?
What a suprise…! (sarcasm)
Can we get Bronson Arroyo to hook these guys up on some PEDS?
Roachy, if you knock one out here, I promise I’ll be your bestest friend ever.
bird & indian: well, your approach is working really well, buddy. that’s 2 games we’ve LOST (if we dont come back here) by following the approach you endorse. which amounts to the series. yeah i gotta say i disagree…
The Braves turn for the three run HOMER!!!
August 16th, 200911:32 pm
Come on Adam.
well i will say this now.. this game is over.. you have had 3 chances to get ryan howard out. 2-3 with 2 hrs and 4 rbi’s.. not once were javy and mccann thowing in on him.. the 2 pitches he crushed were balls down the middle and upp..but my observation is the braves players can care less and just want this game over with so they can go home and sleep..the game is over.. its still one game but getting beat on national tv again..
well that about wraps up the season eh? SRF
Yeah, why not. I mean, if the Braves lose tonight they’d be tied with the Cubs, 3-1/2 games behind the wild-card leader with a mere 46 games to go. Obviously stick a fork in ‘em, right SRF?
We have to get something here. Even one.
Rob from SC
August 16th, 200911:33 pm
I know people get tired of me talking about Heyward, but he has game changing power. Church does not. Teams would need to be careful with how they pitch Heyward which will lead to walks.
Ryan Church does not scare anyone.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
