it was suggested to me by one of the Braves coaches that he was probably trying to take the heat for one of the Nationals players who might have been barking from the dugout
Nate should try some Yoga, he is too tight, needs to lay off the weights, maybe then he will stop trying to be Babe Ruth and popping out and getting injured. I hope the Braves do not forget they have a game in an hour and dont overlook the Nats, they could easily put a 10 spot on Lowe if the sinker does not sink.

but that call at third was horrible, I don’t even know how an ump 2 feet away gets that wrong.
Like when Laz Diaz called BMac out at second in Baltimore when Brian stretched a single into a double? Course, that was a tad differ’nt, ’cause Diaz wasn’t in the right spot to make the call…That thing last night was more like the play in NY on May 12 when Beltran “stole third”. But, you’re correct, the umps owe McCann a few more.

Countin’ the chickens, eh?
You just jinxed the Braves’ entire season. Yes, even retroactively — at least 50 previous losses can now be laid right on your doorstep.
Lew: “In case you hadn’t learned it yet, you can’t go back and change the situation, but if you look at what I was talking about, you’d have a situation where it wouldn’t happen AGAIN, because the offenders were either traded, disabled, DFAed or were performing in a totally opposite manner. I guess that is irrelevant to you though.”
In fact, for that game it is irrelevant. You mention some of the “culprits” are gone or whatever, and thats certainly true….but Cox is still there. What I mean by that is you conveniently leave out the part where Cox watched 7 runs score to tie the game late, all the while leaving his 2 best relievers, Gonzo and Soriano, in the pen. Now why would he do something that idiotic? Pls let me know and dont forget they had played a game the day before but were off the day before that, so they had played 3 games in 4 days. Surely at some point he should have thought “enough is enough….if theyre gonna beat me, theyre gonna beat my best” and brought in at least 1 of them, ya think? Mid Town Joe: Glad to help. I loved watching them.
Haven’t been up on YT for very long and it irritates me to no end that some very early TBS stuff with the Braves from the 80s was taken down when someone from MLB Advanced Media noticed and petitioned YT for it’s removal. Understand the copyright infringement completely, but at some point, if you don’t have a DVD with the footage available to sell from that era, taking older broadcast footage like that away from the fans shoots themselves in the foot more than it helps their cause IMO.

Yes Im new here this year, and you posted to me about criticizing your wife in a disgusting manner, none of which I had anything to do with. So whats there to “get?”
Pete-Bone headed decision or not-it can’t be changed now, can it? Besides, you’re griping that he didn’t use either Gonzo or Soriano. Now the hue and cry is that they’re used too much. NO way for him to win is there? Damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t and it still changes nothing. And where did you see that I defended him or even mentioned him except responding to the Idiot?
Schafer Obliterator: “Pete – that horrible 7 run blown game was nauseating but many would argue that Moylan was a type 1 reliever and he was horrible as well.”
So are you suggesting that Gonzo and Soriano should have remained in the pen during that mess?
“Well, I own the place, I run the place. It’s my job to know all my customers.”
If I thought that any convenience store or gas station owner was keeping tabs on all my purchases, my birthday, cc# (implied), etc, they would never see me again.
Guys…the umps in San Fran are the worst I’ve seen I think this year.
I mean it’s bad.
Bruce Bochey AND their bench coach have been tossed….So we’re not the only ones getting screwed
And apparently the announcers say the crew has been horrible for all three days…and yes the crew does involve that Bill Hohn guy or whatever his name is…
What going with umps this year…we’re hearing a lot abotu blown call…like a lot.
Thanks to the umpiring crew, Andre Either got a chance to drive in Rafael Furcal to tie the game up. Linecum now gone, 2 outs top of the 9th, runner on 1st……..score 2-2.
RG: Not sure if that will push Minor back or not. One can hope, but I’d say it’d have to be something after their next off day which is Tuesday to affect Minor’s scheduled start. When do the gates typically open at State Mutual?
Pete-You said I had called you names (what are you, 13 that that even matters?). What I said to you was that you had an anal fixation on a point of view that could almost certainly be proven right in hindsight, but was really shortsighted and irrelevant.
I told you WHY I had called this reprobate names. It’s obvious that it didn’t matter to you-you didn’t want to hear an explanation.
However, if someone telling you that you’re anally fixated upsets you that greatly, you might want to find another forum. You wouldn’t like traversing the mine field we see here on a daily basis.
Maybe Braveheart will tell you about the RROE sometime.

My response was addressing your comments about the culprits gone, DL whatever, while conveniently leaving out other important facts. Since I am not part of that “hue and cry,” pls dont confuse me with others’ posts….has nothing to do with our debate because it is not my opinion.
nolie- I believe the issue with Glavine was he understood that as long as he was able to get back to health and pitch respectively (Very subjective) that he would get an oppurtunity to pitch in the bigs this year which his contract called for to get the first payment. He did all that and then, in his eyes anyway, had the rug pulled out from under him at the last minute when the Braves went in another direction (ANDERS)
I’m sure that’s what he wanted to believe, but early in the previous fall Wren made it very plain that if they resigned Smoltz and/or Glav that it would be in a back up roll, that they were gonna fill their pitching needs first without them. I fail to see how giving the guy the longest chance possible is mistreating him. If they had cut him earlier the uproar would be that they didn’t give him enough of a chance. Getting rid of legends who do not want to go never works out well, just the facts of competitive life.
Random-No problem. Quite honestly, I have apologized to two people here on the blog-EFrim and Braveheart-cause I gave them unwarranted grief. You might should have been the thrid (and only other one) for the crap I gave you about a year ago. You’ve got a free shot along with your Wurlitzer-should you chose to claim it.
Lew: “Pete-You said I had called you names…..”
NO I did not, so pls dont start lying. Appreciate it….. I said you had called others names, which being behind a computer, is silly and immature.
Pete-Whatever. Why don”t you just let it ride and determine to not like me or agree with anything I have to say? That way we can scroll past each other’s posts because it’s likely we’ll always consider the other And Idiot. OK? Happy Now?
Some seem to say that Liebrandt’s performance in the World Series should be overlooked because he helped them get to the series. MAybe you should pitch that line of thinking to RedSox fans reguarding Bill Buckner.
Lew: “Pete-You said I had called you names (what are you, 13 that that even matters?).”
Youre the one calling names….but Im the one who’s 13 for mentioning it? lol I got it now for sure…thanks Lew!
monty: “Some seem to say that Liebrandt’s performance in the World Series should be overlooked because he helped them get to the series. MAybe you should pitch that line of thinking to RedSox fans reguarding Bill Buckner.”
Glad someone else saw how silly that reasoning is…..thanks Monty
AndyC (August 12th, 2009 4:21 pm): “Smoltz can only go and pitch for a team in playoff contention. If he goes to the Nats or any other team out of the race then I will lose all respect for him. Be a man and retire.”
If he does go to a non-contender this year, I would figure that he’d simply be taking any opportunity to continue his rehab, thereby positioning himself to go to a contender next ST.
I know our Braves are, to quote Mr. Bradley “en fuego”, but by no means are they to the point where they can lose one of those patented “well, we hit the ball hard but right at people” games.
Or a couple of those patented losses. We’re not there yet. We’re not anywhere yet. Not as long as Kevin f*ing Gregg keeps blowing games to the Phillies.
I think we all know that this team is capable of winning but they’re still just as capable of putting up a zero on the scoreboard on any given night.
The more I think about it, the more sense it makes for Tim Hudson to come back as a short reliever.
Realistically, can we really expect for Hudson to come back and pitch better and go deeper into games than Kawakami right away? If Hudson comes back and is only able to pitch 5 or 6 innings, is it worth that to send Kawakami to the bullpen, where he would rarely pitch? At least as a starter, the Braves would be getting production from Kawakami.
Sending Hudson to pitch in short relief and sending Manny Acosta back to Triple A where he can pitch more often, makes more sense to me. If it was earlier in the season, then I could see giving Hudson some starts to “work the kinks out”. However, I feel it’s too late in the season to do that. Tim Hudson is much more suited (both with his bulldog mentality and with his nasty stuff and control) to pitch in short relief. Kawakami doesnt have the pitching stuff to consistently come in and shut a team down for an inning. He’s more of a grinder.
Now if one of our starters were to suffer an injury, then that of course would change the thought process.
Lew: “No I posted to someone else about it. Had nothing whatsoever to do with you.”
BS you were addressing me, as the last paragraph proves.

“Pete-Actually, I debated with you though your point was sophomoric at best. All losses count. Wow. Did you come up with that one all by yourself?
You might also notice that Apologist/Johnson and Johnson/etc. was the one I had words for. Maybe you’d like to know why I did? Unfortunately the post he made about my wife last week was deleted so you will have to take my (and Carroll’s) word, because, like the Nameless DBag said, I reported him/her/it. Honestly, I should just give the Nameless Idiot my address just to see if they’ve got the requisite genitals to come get taught some manners. Isn’t it amazing how brave and full of themselves they are when they won’t have to face the person they slurred?
I’ll be more than glad to debate you (when you have something worth debating) any time at all. If, however, you want to talk trash about my wife of 34 years, then the game changes. Got it?”
Greg, I watched all 4 of the videos from the 84 Braves V Padres fights. Man that brought back some memories, Horner, a young Murphy, Royster, hell even Brad Kominiski. I ran into Perez at a strip joint in Tampa the year before, crazy dude. Thanks
Monty and Pete, apparently you missed it but Bill Buckner was back in Fenway in the last year or two and got a long standing ovation.
Real fans of the Braves aren’t going to trash Charlie Leibrandt because he threw a home run ball to a great hitter and they aren’t going to trash Bobby Cox for having Leibrandt in the game. Without Leibrandt the Braves would have been enjoying their offseason instead of playing in the World Series.
Yeah, that sounds like a fun weekend. I was thinking about taking a road trip up to Chattanooga, but I don’t think my roomies would be real excited about sticking around to see a MiLB game. Oh well…I’ll definitely (hopefully) be going to see Minor’s debut…and I’m hoping Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg gets promoted before the end of the season.
Mid Town Joe………if you paid close attention to the Craig Nettles at-bat, Donnie Moore actually threw him a pitch that Nettles fouled off. When he gets the ball back from the umpire, he looks towards the Braves dugout (as if someone yelled for him to hit Nettles). The next pitch he plunked Nettles, setting off the last of the bench clearing brawls of the day.
It’s still amazing to see the highlights of that game.
Uh, oh. The Giants shortstop just pulled a Luis Castillo.
That’s what they told my husband. Our house is basically three stories with a partial above-ground basement and two stories above that. Due to the amount of trees around here, the dish is mounted up on the roof corner. It really is quite high. They are supposed to be back tomorrow.
Paul L, My brothers and I use to watch a replay of that game every year since 1984. One of my brothers, in Lawrenceville, had a BetaMax recorder, and just happened to tape the entire game. I called him earlier, today, and said that he and a neighbor watched the whole thing last week. (he lives in Wisconsin now)
ESPN rumors has Smoltz maybe to Cardinals, though Rangers and Dodgers have interest. John just needs to go home. He does not have it any more. John just has to face it that his career is over, done, toast. We all get old. John has got old, and has a bum arm.
Paul Lentz: “The more I think about it, the more sense it makes for Tim Hudson to come back as a short reliever.”
Am in complete agreement, especially early on when he may not have the arm strength, etc. He can build up strength back to a starter that way. I think thats how Smoltz should have been used by Boston, and the results probably would have been much better.
We will win tonight with ease. I already felt we had a good chance, but now that I just heard the Nats pitcher allowed, what, 6 runs in an inning his last start, I’m 100% sure we win.
Why are you so obsessed with making Tim Hudson (the team’s ACE when healthy) a MIDDLE reliever?
You are aware that Tim isn’t going to be brought up until the rosters expand in September, or there about, b/c he’s due to make 3 more rehab starts (after tonight).
Who knows what the need for the Braves will be in September as far as relevant to what to do with Tim Hudson.
You are like a FAX SPAMMER that sends over the same info to people’s fax machines every week, even when it’s not currently RELEVANT. In the process, lots of paper gets wasted.
Tim Hudson will also have to prove to the Braves that he can start once again and be effective so they can decide weather or not to exercise the option year. It’s a no brainer that Huddy will “want this option” exercised, b/c nobody will give him a big contract out right until he can prove he can be a top tier starter in this league again for a full season. (2010 season that is).
So it maybe a mutual option, but the ball is in the Braves “court” so to speak. Hence they need to see him pitch not only in spring training next year, or in simulated games, but in live games (starts since he is a starter Lentz, no matter how many fantasies you may have about him coming in the 7th inning of a game) during the 2009 season (september)
Ex-Brave Fan: “ESPN rumors has Smoltz maybe to Cardinals, though Rangers and Dodgers have interest.”
If contract can get reworked, I believe John will sign with someone as a short relief/setup guy, and make a positive contribution. But I think it has to be in the National League.
Mid Town Joe…………I was 12 years old at the time of the game. I wish I had recorded that game. I remember being shocked by seeing Bob Horner show up I remember Skip Carey saying that earlier in the game Horner was in his street clothes up in the press box. However, once the bench clearings happened earlier in the game, he went to the clubhouse and got into his Braves uniform. Chump Summers ran over to the Braves dugout like he was a mafia hit man. The Chumpster’s plans were interrupted when Bob Horner got in his way.
I would love to see some kind of 25th anniversary “tribute” to that Padres-Braves game, kind of like how ESPN did recently with the Disco Demolition night at Chicago in 1979. Some of the Padres players were challenging the Braves fans by their dugout to a fight. Lot’s of beer flying through the air that day. I still laugh when I see those 2 Braves fans jump into the pile of players where Chump and Horner were falling to the ground.
nolie–it looked like Kimbrel got his elbow too high a la Zumaya and the like (but probably not that pronounced), but I thought the rest was solid but it looks like you disagree so I’ll go sit in the corner now…

I told you WHY I had called this reprobate names. It’s obvious that it didn’t matter to you-you didn’t want to hear an explanation.
However, if someone telling you that you’re anally fixated upsets you that greatly, you might want to find another forum. You wouldn’t like traversing the mine field we see here on a daily basis.

nolie- I believe the issue with Glavine was he understood that as long as he was able to get back to health and pitch respectively (Very subjective) that he would get an oppurtunity to pitch in the bigs this year which his contract called for to get the first payment.

Paul Lentz,
Why are you so obsessed with making Tim Hudson (the team’s ACE when healthy) a MIDDLE reliever?
